Band-Maid - Shambles Reaction

- So this is a new one for me! New song from a band I've only heard like two songs from this band, maybe four years ago. So this is still fairly blind. I wanted some new music, but also wanted to keep with some of the Japanese metal bands I'm unfamiliar with. With that, this is Band-Maid with Shambles.
The band has written all of its own songs for several years now, including Shambles. The lead guitarist is the primary composer, and the rhythm guitarist is the primary lyricist.
That's very cool. I'm completely unfamiliar, so little info like that helps a lot. Thanks for checking it out.
@@TheKagedReview I promise you, you will be provided with more information regarding this band within the next 24 hours than you can believe is possible.
@@thomasjmclain😅I have no doubt
@@TheKagedReview You will find that using over the ear open backed headphones will allow you to hear and enjoy Band-Maid much better. Using ear buds or closed back headphones lessens the bass response, and the bass is a VERY important part of Band-Maid's sound.
No candy and fluff from Band-Maid! Rock, hard rock, touch of metal, some punk, and sometimes all in the same song! The band is just finishing it's 10th year, with all the same band mates from then till now. What you are describing is what the band founder, Miku Kobato, Red Flower, is what she calls the "GAP", the difference from the look to what you hear, always surprises new listeners and reactors. While Kanami, lead guitarist, is the primary composer, it is a group effort putting ego aside to do what serves the song best, total teamwork! If you want to see "Four" musicians, check out "From Now On", "Onset"(live), "Without Holding Back" and "Don't Be Long", which are masterpiece instrumental songs from these amazing ladies!
Thanks for the recommendations, I'll be checking out a lot more from BM in the very near future. This was pretty stellar!
One thing I'm kinda looking forward to is everyone telling how easily they blend styles into their music. I love bands that can do that! I'm sure I'm about to jump down the rabbit hole lol. Much appreciated
Our MAIDs will always give you ... not what you expected. 10 years of the best surprises :) .
I can see that. 😉😂 I'm looking forward to what's up next!
Great reaction. Thank you for showcasing Band Maid. Our mission as Madiacs is to spread the word about how incredible this band is. Every time someone new hears them it just means that new fans have been created. And they are well on their way to becoming known the world over.
They're super talented, that much is obvious. One thing I've learned is a talent like that speaks for itself. People will always take notice!
Band-Maid is NOT a "Metal" band but a Hard Rock band. They can bring the "metal" heat though Like "Moritorium". Band-Maid is totally organic and are their own band. Akane (Ah-kah-nee) drummer is a beast and one of the cleanest/hardest hitting drummers out there. If you're into musicianship then you have found your new band. Great drumming in "Influencer", Domination LIVE, "DICE', "Freedom" and "Blooming". These girls are total bad-asses for sure......welcome.
Thanks a bunch. I'm definitely adding more songs to react to because I agree: these girls are seriously bad ass. Moratorium, huh? That just sounds like something I need to check out, lol. Thanks again.
@@TheKagedReviewyou definitely need to check out Moratorium!
@@TheKagedReview Forgot this metal Banger "Rinne" official music video. Cool story behind this one.
Band-Maid is awesome ... I would suggest that you check out the "Dice & Hate?" live video from lollapalooza show earlier this year. Thanks for the reaction.
Thanks. I'm downloading the video to react to as I write this! I've had a ton of people recommend that one in particular.
Band maid is a super live band
Yeah I'm gonna have to check out a live performance. They're pretty amazing in the studio.
I watch Band-Maid reactors just to see that moment when the smile hits their face as the awesomeness of the music strikes home
It was there, no doubt. There's something infectious about this song right from the start. More smiles to come lol
Nice. Their management company gave them songs at first. That may be what you've heard. Some of those, Thrill, Real Existence, Freedom have gotten a lot of plays and reactions. Most are pretty good although I prefer the newer stuff. Since 2016-17 or so, Kanami, lead guitar, has written the songs and managed maximum creative input from the others. Kanami also does all the production work for the final demo before they go to the studio. The second vocal/rhythm guitar writes the lyrics. These are definitely Band Maid songs. I've seen them recently in a relatively small club and they killed it.
That's pretty impressive because this was a damn good song. I can't wait to get into the rest of their library! I have a live cut next. I wanna hear their sound at a concert! Thanks for checking me out
"This is ... really good."
Yes. Yes it is. And there's more. Lots more. *"Shambles"* was written as a ending theme for the second season of the Japanese anime series _Kengan Ashura._ They wrote an opening theme for the Japanese anime series _Platinum End_ called *"Sense."* It has an interesting video too. But the one that will really impress you is the instrumental that opened their last album "Unleash" - *"from now on."* Saiki says, "Do it." Oh, and *"Unleash!!!!!"*
I've seen From Now On recommended several times. I might check put Sense just out of sheer curiosity. If it's anything like Shambles I'm all in. Thanks for the input.
@@TheKagedReview Miku Kobato (rhythm guitar, second vocals, red rose) writes most of the lyrics. She is very good at it. The lyrics for both "Shambles" and "Sense" relate to the anime but they will make sense even if you don't know the story.
Band-Maid bringing the 🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!! 🖖❤
Yeah, that opening was so unexpected

Lol that's a ton of info!
Thanks, though. It helps to have some good places to start. I've had a ton of requests. I'll start reacting and fitting them in-between what I already have recorded. Much appreciated. 🤟
This BAND is aMAIDzing!!!!!
Aahhh, see what you did there lol. They really are though. I see I'm in for an adventure here.
I see a number of MORATORIUM suggestions for you. I agree. The song is, as Peter Lim says, "tribal." Now, as far as live music goes, my two cents worth offering is for you to listen and react to one of their latest live video performances - Lollapalooza 2023's "DICE & HATE?" performance. You will be able to decide just how accomplished their musicianship is as well as their stage presence. Thank you for this solid reaction to SHAMBLES by my favorite group - BAND-MAID.
I've had a Lot of recommendations for both, so I can guarantee they'll be nee reactions on here really soon. Much appreciated.
BAND-MAID dabbles in different sub-genres of rock so there is something for everyone. Welcome to the BM rabbit hole. It only gets better from here:
Domination (2020 live)
Freedom (2020 live)
Warning! (MV)
Secret My Lips & Secret MAIKO Lips
From Now On (MV)
DICE (MV)
Nice, thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely use them at some point. I have a bunch already recorded, so I'll start throwing more BM into the mix.
Yup, the Dice / Hate double from Lollapalooza 23' Live Stream should be next on your radar as well as Puzzle Official Live from Tokyo Garden Theatre 23'
Yeah, Dice/Hate is coming next. I've had soooo many requests for that one! I'll put Puzzle on the wait list too lol, thanks
You need to hear them live, so here's the ones most Maidiacs will point you towards for starters:
- Puzzle
- Domination
- Freedom
And you MUST check out at least one of their instrumentals to see how well they play:
- From Now On
- Onset
- Without Holding back
This IMO is the Best live band in the world. Matter of taste of course, no such thing really, but they are in the conversation.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely be checking some of that (maybe all of that) out.
@@TheKagedReview just to add the great list that @paddyofurniture4681 has given you, there's a new live video of BM absolutely nailing "Shambles" in a recent live performance ruclips.net/video/GDoJUT0UdkA/видео.html ... enjoy ... and thanks for your honesty
Welcome back to Band-Maid. Maidiacs will be incoming with all the info that you'll ever need to know about them.
I seriously love the passion some of these fans have. I wish I had the time to really deep-dive into bands like that! But it's useful when I come on here and get like full biographies lol. Thanks for stopping by
Do Band Maid Hate Live Lollapalooza 2023. You’ll gain an even further appreciation of their talent.
That performance is one of the more intense ones out there. I'm getting sweaty just by thinking of it.
You beat me to it. The hook is set, might as well reel him and put him on the Band-Maid boat for good.
Yeah, I've seen this recommended a bunch. I'll make sure I check it out soon. Thanks. You guys are building this up, I'm expecting big things lmao
@@TheKagedReview I recommend doing the songs Dice and Hate? together. You will see why.

I feel like this info dump is incomplete.
Let's fill this guy in on the rest of the band's history,
@@TehPhysics But of course.
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead.
Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition.
Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition.
Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music.
Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance.
And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD!
ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!!
Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their RUclips channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill.
Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.
There are many of us who would be more than happy to answer whatever questions anyone may have about the Ladies of Band-Maid. You have but to ask.
I'm pretty sure a book gets a title page!😂😂😂
That's a Lot of info! (I honestly haven't read the whole thing yet... when I finish responding to the comments I'll finish it). Thanks for putting it all down here though. It makes it a lot easier on me to acquaint myself with the band. I've always said the passion of fans never ceases to amaze me! This is a great example. Much appreciated
Mission accomplished 😂🤣
Thanks for dropping the info. They're phenomenal together. I've had quite a few people dropping detailed information on the members, songs, and how the band was created. It's always appreciated, as I'm just walking into this new BM territory. I have some more reactions coming soon (with some live performances). Thanks again.
puzzle live tells you everything about them
Good, because apparently I'm about to slip down this rabbit hole 😂
Early stuff was sourced by their management. Started recording their own stuff in 2016 and up to 80 plus songs. Seriously, not one bad or poor song since. They are a band that comes alive in front of an audience. Best current example is a clip from the Lollapalooza 2023 gig, two songs in a row of DICE/HATE. It is floating around on the web. Otherwise, any official live from their RUclips site, Band Maid.
I'm definitely picking out a live song for my next BM reaction. It'll probably be Dice/Hate because so many people have requested it already 😆. Thanks for the input and for stopping by.
Nice song they were commissioned to write as the closing credits music for the Netflix TV show "Kengen Ashura."
Well, that's a cool little tidbit about the song. That's kinda bad ass.
Best band in the world 🤘🎎🤘🎎
They're undeniably talented, that's for sure!🤟🤟
One of the most instrumentally talented bands ever.
I'm going for a live video next. I'm about to find out. 😉
You’re free to call most modern music “crap.” It’s okay. Everybody knows it. That’s part of the reason Band Maid has garnered a legion of fans formerly disillusioned with the lack of real musicians in modern music.
Band Maid is in full control of their music composition and sound. Kanami (lead guitar) is the primary songwriter, Miku (rhythm guitar) is the main lyricist. However, there are no egos here. Both Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) write their own parts. And Saiki (lead vocals) is the Ice Queen with final say, right down to the setlists.
I highly recommend another music video “From Now On,” which captures another aspect of these artists. A full instrumental, reimagined modern metal with a brilliant arrangement.
I'll have to check out Fron Now On. Thanks for the recommendation and for stopping by.
Lol I genuinely don't think a lot of music is crap, but I'd much rather listen to something like this. It's pure talent, raw and unrefined (for the most part). I can't wait to check out something live from them.
@@TheKagedReview Brilliant! Thanks for your reply. If “From Now On” gets a thumbs up from you, then I have the perfect live performance on deck, waiting 🤘🏽

5 talented musicians, not 4!
Yeah, I caught that later. Next time..
M/Vs are high quality. Live performances are amazing. Full on Rock N Roll.
Hey Kevin, do yourself a favor and check out their latest instrumental FROM NOW ON for an Awesome rock/metal/prog "take your breath away" piece of music. Most of their 120+ song catalog is overly Awesome. Can't make it thru 10 years without an Awesome catalog. They have songs written for anime, of which Shambles is one, and also more instrumentals and acoustics and songs that include traditional Japanese instruments. BAND-MAID will keep you happily busy. Peace. 2.01

Nice. This sounds intense enough for anime lol. That drummer is really talented, I can't wait to see what she can really do! I'm going for a live cut next time. I wanna see what they're like outside of the studio!
If you want to dee what Akane Hirose (aka) Gorilla can do , the song Freedom live is for you .@@TheKagedReview
The smile says it all. Glad you enjoyed them. I'm also glad you explained your reaction style at the start. There are some reactors that overplay their reactions to keep people coming back. But I have to stand up for a small group of reactors that some have hated on because they think they are doing it. When what is happening is that first. Music lovers . Second very outward people and lastly we as fans keep sending them great new bands that almost any music lover can get into. My unasked for advice is if you don't like them stop listening to them..And stop leaving comments trashing them. Just move on and find someone you do like. No one likes a hater. The world had to many as it is.
You should find live version of Shambles. You'll find fancams of decent quality and can see they are an amazing live band. Their 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama Arena performance was the best yet, but you'll have to wait for quite a while before they upload the clip.
Long live Rock and Roll. Try the live version of PUZZLE from the Tokyo Gsrden Theatre, and the OMVs for SENSE, UNLEASH, RINNE.

Awesome, thanks for the recommendations! Lol I have a huge list from everybody commenting here. I'm going to fit in some more reactions with what I already have recorded, including some live performances. Thanks again
Band Maid fought hard to earn the right to do their own material. Their record company in the beginning did not trust the Maids to write their own stuff, but everything from the song Alone on is all them. As others have said, Kanami the lead guitarist is the main composer and Miku Koboto the rhythm guitarist is the main lyricist. Band Maid from Japan and The Warning from Mexico are the reason this old bassist regained his faith in Rock music.
I know that look when I see it down the pigeon hole you go
I believe you are correct 😆
"I've done a couple reactions to them, but I don't remember anything..."
Hm, sounds like a glitch in your Matrix to me 🤔
And yes, it's just them.
Lmao, it's been years to be fair. They're a super talented group, that's for sure!
You ain't seen anything yet with this band
I'm quite sure. I can't wait to see more!
BAND-MAID consider themselves to be Hard Rock, though being genreless, Metal is among their many influences. That being said, you should get a decent pair of some proper headphones for BAND-MAID or you will miss the glorious low end of the greatest rhythm section in the world, MISA & Akane! I saw you didn't react where it came in. If you like music, earbuds just don't cut it. BAND-MAID no longer have outside writers. It's been all them for some time now. This song was one of their commissioned anime theme songs. It's the season two closer for a Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura.
I literally just broke my headphones 🎧. I just have to get a new pair. I have no doubt you're right about the sound and missing some things from the rhythm section. *Soon*
Just curious, what songs you reacted and what made stop reacting to them?
I honestly don't remember. Been too long. I was away from my channel for over two years. I'm just getting back to reactions.
