Alternators Grimlock would absolutely be on my list. He might be my least favorite Transformers toy ever. You can't transform him without his arms or doors popping off.
Totally agree. Though sometimes I swear the transformation would just flow and I’d swear I must’ve conquered it only to be thwarted next time I tried to get him back into car mode.
I was so confident that origins jazz would be in this list. Amazing figure, solid and stiff plastic. But the transformation is so scary. Everything fits correctly but it's so tight you are afraid things will break, even if the plastic feels solid. Alongside the clear plastic part you mentioned
I saw a Bayverse Jazz in a big flea market that the person working there put on the table in a half state, and she told me that no one who came by were able to properly put him in vehicle mode. Always wanted to see if someone had a video on this guy in here...
My personal top three Transformers, which don’t suffer from gold plastic syndrome, that have always been a nightmare to transform have been: DotM Sentinel Prime, RoTF Mixmaster, and Prime Dreadwing/Skyquake.
I loved my transformers alternators Acura RSX so much that I ended up breaking prowl's face during a transformation. I no longer transform him ever again.
Growing up with G1 I was impressed with Beast Wars and Energon Trilogy engineering. Modern toys scare me with all the origami panels and double hinged extenders held together with small pegs.
There’s a good technique that you can do so that the plastic doesn’t snap. Instead of prying the small little tabs, squeeze the actual chest near the two giant things near his head. That should make it so that you can easily move the chest plate away.3:22
Seeing the opening just makes me wanna image that nine-nine is still doing their annual heist to this day 😂 great vid as always! And happy spooky season
I'm glad someone finally called out how weirdly terrifying Earthrise/Kingdom Arcee is to transform. I got the Galactic Odyssey Lifeline version from my sister as something of a knowing gag gift (she kept Ratchet, naturally), and I was mostly frustrated by how surprisingly close to fun Lifeline is. I could forgive the backpack and the sweet car mode if it wasn't so difficult to cram the legs into position! I enjoy SS86 Arcee much more, especially because she got ankle pivots.
As someone who loves SS86 Hot Rod, and _adores_ the Shattered Glass repaint, I totally get it when it comes to transforming him. My list of scary transformations isn't nearly as long as yours, but I'll throw out my own: - Hot Rod's big brother, Kingdom Rodimus, has a bit of a frustrating transformation: The upper torso has a tendency to turn into a pile of spaghetti (albeit, not as badly as some figures), and getting the back wheels out of his legs is a pain in the ass. - Gamer Edition Bumblebee always feels like I'm forcing plastic past plastic every time I flip him back and forth. I'm always worried that he's going to snap, and I'm thankful that Hasbro decided to represent the glowing parts of the WfC/FoC designs with paint rather than clear plastic, because I'm sure he would've shattered by now. - I clench every time I transform Legacy Knock Out. I'm very aware of the Jazz mold's issues with its clear plastic, so I try to be really careful with Knock Out to avoid that. I'm very glad I waited for the opaque version of Jazz. - I love Legacy Nova Prime, enough to drop £35 on the DNA kit to upgrade him, but oh man is it annoying to get him into and out of his combined truck mode. The pegs that the boots attach to the backpack with are hinged, and it's a nightmare getting them to tab in properly. Then going in reverse, the wings do _not_ like to let go of the sides of the cab, those tolerances are way too tight. Finally, I'm never sure if I'm putting the shoulder pads in the right way around, because they're just entirely white with no identifying marks for front or back. Love the figure, but he may become a robot-mode only guy once the upgrade kit is installed.
I recently picked up a G1.5 Skyquake from a vintage toy shop here in the UK. Luckily he was in robot mode when I bought him. I bought him in robot mode and he will remain in robot mode. The owner graciously used nearly the whole shop's worth of bubble wrap so I could get him home safely.
Thank God someone else shares my thoughts about the ER Seeker chest panel! And honestly, ANY GPS figure is scary to transform. I'd also add ROTF Ironhide, the waist rotation got SUPER tight and I'm terrified of transforming it.
The Earthrise Seeker mold is actually one of my favorites to transform. I LOVE the F-15 mode too. On the contrary, the siege Seeker mold is one of my least favorites to transform. ESPECIALLY the Sparkless Seeker which has mold degradation so bad it makes the wing tabs get stuck to the arms, so transforming him back into robot mode makes me feel like I’m gonna break him
Huh, when I saw Magmatron on the list I figured it'd be because of the way the sword hilt piece never wants to plug in on his Landsaurus mode, that thing always takes FOREVER to attach and every time I manage it, it feels like it only happened through sheer luck. Cool figure but man that's easily one of the most annoying steps on any of my Transformers. A tip on the Earthrise Seekers if you weren't aware: if you hold one by the shoulder vents and squeeze them gently, it makes it much easier to open the chest without worrying about breaking the tabs holding it in place. I can't think of any Transformers I own that outright scare me to transform, but I guess the closest would be 01 Studio Cell. Awesome Unicron but it takes a ton of time and patience to convert, don't even try if you don't have at least half an hour to work at it. I guess you can pinch your fingers if you're not careful, too.
The figures i own that scare me the most to transform are Gamer Edition Cliffjumper/Bumblebee and Legacy Evolution Dreadwing/Skyquake. Both molds terrify me so i just leave them both in Robot mode permanently. Great video
Alternators as a line would definitely be on a list as this, though I'm surprised it's as high as it is... okay, not that surprised. My single scariest Transformer transformation is... G2 Electro. I had him a few years ago, bought another collector's collection. My greatest fear became true and his shoulder crumbled during the first time transforming him. GPS is real and very scary. A real shame because his transformation is so much more interesting than the other 3 Laser Rods...
For me with the seekers, it's not even the chest tabs, it's getting the arms transformed, particularly from jet to bot. My thundercracker in particular, who's my favorite seeker by the way, so that makes it extra fun, is so frustrating to pry the wrists open in order to fold out the elbow hinges.
SS BBM Soundwave turns into a nearly untabable hover tank thing. SS WFC Cliffjumper/Bunblebee has a hip position that is hard to find and he will not go together if you miss handle that one step. SS 86 Ratchet/Ironhide have clear plastic and scare me to transform.
THANK YOU for saying that about the ER Seeker mold. You're the first person I've seen talk about it, and I don't know why. I'm petrified every time I come to that specific step. That plastic is just too hard for that kind of movement imo.
JobbyTheHong reviewed a third Party Dinobot recently that... Good lord. I'd rather transform all of these TWICE than transform that thing!! One of the most agonizing third party transformations I have ever seen, right up there with Bold Forms Gladius.
@@TTMMH42 Fair. And, let me guess; while I don't have D-Zef, he looks like the kind of figure where the edges and points would poke your fingers every single time you handle him.
@@TTMMH42 I'm trying to remember... I _know_ there are third party TFs that have drawn blood from me. I think maybe it was DX9's Menasor where one of the leg joints was so strong, it pinched the web of my finger in the metal parts and, goosh.
I buy transformers for their transformation gimmick, and I transform my figures a LOT. I have two two Starscream's from Earthrise and Studio series and I can say with confidence that those thin tabs will almost definitely not break. The paint on the other hand is a different story.
I love the anime inspired transformation at 1:42 also, legacy Leadfoot was a figure I transformed like twice and shoved back into his box. I felt ripped off holding such an awful transformation experience
Honestly he's not scary he's just a terrible figure all around and I didn't want to taint the channel with negativity Also I completely forgot about him :)
Speaking of the classics seekers, the feet were bad on a lot of them, the only ones I didn't have at least one foot break off on were Classics Skywarp, Acid Storm, and the later release of Generations Thundercracker. Though I have two classics Skywarps, and both of them have broken nosecones, another point of failure, that I only had happen to the Skywarps and the Universe version of Starscream, who also suffered a broken foot. The Earthrise mold is vastly superior to the old Classics seeker mold, though I do agree about that chest panel being scary.
I see BM Deluxe Optimus Primal in the intro and am very surprised he isn't in the list. I reckon my copy is about one or two transformations from having the clear plastic break right off. That toy deserves to be done in non-translucent plastic.
For the Seeker mold, your doing it wrong. You need to push the "vents" together and then the front chest peace slides off easy peasy. I love the seeker mold so much I even have tracked down the nameless generic purple guy, and I've transformed each of them dozens of times.
My beast wars anniversary Dinobot disintegrated standing on my shelf. 😢. The funniest transformer death was when the O ring in one of the laser rods snapped and poor Sizzle exploded. Thankfully I could fix him with a new o ring.
With earthrise Arcee, I'd honestly suggest just getting an upgrade kit from ebay that replaces the entire backpack with a piece that looks how her wings usually do
Alternators Smokescreen was, and probably still is, the best Alternator; and yeah, it's better in Die Cast. While practically every other one was too complex, I think Smokescreen was fair. Masterpiece Prowl, it turns out, was much better... and a real joy to transform; but for it's time and pricepoint Smokescreen wasn't bad.
I would say the diecast Binaltech versions all felt better than the alternator versions. And Smokescreen was pretty good especially as the first release. I remember the Hound mold being pretty fun and I also liked wind charger. Sadly I don't have most of them anymore.
Try a vintage G1 Metroplex, complete and in excellent condition after hearing about it's waist snapping in half and when you go to test it it stubbornly moves requiring more force than my butthole could pucker up for, I had visions of me sitting there with two pieces of Metroplex thinking well there goes $140.
1) Scalpel: bc its breaks no matter what 2) 1st MP Megatron: bc its two halves are held by a single tiny hinge during transformation 3) 1st MP Hot Rod: bc it breaks no matter what 4) Alternators Grimlock/Wheeljack: those arms 5) Alternity Bumblebee: if you don't do it right the knee joints become loose 6) Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar: bc it breaks no matter what one thing about the Alternators Prime: the hood plastic is thin & will begin to crack if you push on the joint (attempting to align the hood) too often Alternators Mirage is a simple transformation, & a good figure imo. open it!
5:08 I agree again. For me hot rods shoulder arm came off. Took me a very long time to put them back on. I know I'm scared to transform them back into robot mode.
Eh, a lot of the reason I'm becoming more invested in non-tansforming transformers is because my patience for Transforming figures has dwindled over time. I mean my collection mostly sits in cabinets and boxes and the only ones I bother to keep out and transform regularly are G1 Bumblebee and Soundwave.
I have two, both are oversized KOs of masterpiece Optimus Prime and Megatron. They look amazing in either mode, but they're so fiddly to transform with a million little flaps and I don't trust the plastic, so ultimately they stay in robot mode on the back of the shelf. Which is fine, I've got better figures to pick up and play with, but still. I kinda realized I don't really enjoy my masterpiece figures (even the legit ones). They're incredible display pieces, but not necessarily good toys
That’s why I prefer to keep my Transformers in their boxes because then I know they are a lot safer inside their boxes than having them on display outside of their boxes.
I actually thought the Build Team from _Robots in Disguise_ 2001 was going to be on this list due to me seeing them at the start of the video. That and the production for the _Robots in Disguise_ 2001 anime hit a significant roadblock following the horror that was 9/11.
I’ll say this about the Earthrise Seeker mold. The Dirge they reissued with Legacy United was so loose with every panel that the chest opens without any problems. Also I’m surprised Kingdom: Beast Wars Megatron wasn’t on this considering the force you need to separate the hips for T-Rex mode.
Great video, genuinely, but I have to disagree big time on Magmatron! Maybe it's my personal Magmatron bias (I own the original too), but I love transforming that toy! The way the 3 work in such fascinating and creative ways blows me away! Granted, I also collect Masterpiece, 3rd party, I'm no stranger to a complex transformation and I do accept that the Stop Motion thing probably holds you back from that, but I definitely wouldn't say he's scary to transform personally
The scariest figure to transform I own is ROTF Blazemaster I love the figure it’s just the first and last step is soooo scary, it’s a gold plastic cover pinned onto the clear plastic windscreen and it’s tight, it had not broken yet but it’s scary every time
I think a Transformer that deserves at least some mention for its scary transformation is Movie Masterpiece Blackout, his waist armour is attached by a thin piece of rubber, something I do not understand for a £179.99 figure, what is worse is that dring the transformation you are supposed to twist it around to display a panel and if the figure is new it's going to be stiff and may snap. I've only seen one review ever mentioning this. Part of me is scared I've broken it, but there is not much I can do. I'm sure others who own it can vouch for how nerve-racking it is to potentially break something you have had to save up for
I don't own any MP's after hearing about the 30minute transformations and the 4-5x costs it just wasn't worth it. I can't imagine breaking one. I would cry.
The one I refuse to transform to alt mode, not because it's fragile or anything but it just never tabs in correctly and always looks like he got in a crash, it's Kindom Rodimus
As far as figures I own that I'm scared to mess with, I am TERRIFIED of Transmetal Megatron. His entire shoulder area is sketchy, in fact when I got him his right robot arm had messily broken off at the shoulder. Replacing that arm and maneuvering those shoulder pads into robot mode felt like disarming a bomb. I have not transformed him since his surgery. B'Boom is my runner up, because funny Beast Wars Metallic Plastic™. As far as non GPS figures, that easily goes to G1 Roadbuster. The plastic around some of the internal sliders is just alarmingly thin, especially around the area where his arms fold out.
Soundwave from Cybertron the Cyberjet with cyber key has to little nubbs to click an they break super easy I broke my nubs 1 on each are Transforming him so warning he a 1st one never opened my second one. The Voyager class one.
Sigh… SS86 Hot Rod. Both copies I’ve owned have had the hook tab on the pipes snap off. I love Hot Rod. I want to love that toy. I just don’t touch him anymore.
You aren't wrong about alternators. I have the sdcc nemesis prime one and even though he is my favorite character, he has been permanently resigned to robot mode
I forgot about SS86 Swoop...I had to get a tool to get the chest apart after I transformed him to pterodactyl mode. Then you hear a loud snap...Is it broken? Oh thank gawd.
I have the shattered glass Hot Rod/Rodimus and i do not transform the figure because im afraid to snap the connections at the exhaust pipes and he overall feels some what fragile so im afraid to do anything with the figures honestly
Personally I think you were exggerating with Leadfoot there (I owned Decepticon Mirage). Like sure I get where you are coming from (I hate transformation that a hinge like that to extend it out like Skullgrim) but I never sweat when transforming him. Granted I have transformed him like over several times already so there's that.
So, I'm starting to get into stop motion as well. Any tips? Also, completely agree with the seeker problem. Those tabs are so thin, and I always think they're gonna break
-Really try to pay attention to transitional shots. You have a start and an end, but it's those shots in the middle that will really make the animation look believable. -Sometimes especially with transformations it's easier to shoot it backwards. Start at the end and work your way back. I do it all the time going from vehicle to robot is usually way easier. -If the figure falls over and you're really far into a shot just change the camera angle and keep going.
For me my personal top 3 are from worst to least bad 1. Ds01 crimson wings (clearance hell) 2. Tlk dvd exclusive clear voyager optimus prime (he's gonna fall apart any day now) 3. Mp44...... (Origami hell)
I absolutely HATE clear plastic especially on joints, panels and tabs. I would rather it have a solid tinted windshield than have to deal with brittle clear plastic. Plus the paint on clear plastic never matches the colored plastic and is prone to smudge or wear off easily.
I love my masterpiece Ravages so much. He's easily one of my favorite molds in my collection. But I have to hold my breath every time I flip out that microscopic little nose piece. I've got a clear plastic test shot Year of the Goat masterpiece ravage in my collection that I just DO NOT TRANSFORM EVER. I got him to cat mode one time. And I will never transform him again because I'm terrified of how fragile he is.
Alternators Grimlock would absolutely be on my list. He might be my least favorite Transformers toy ever. You can't transform him without his arms or doors popping off.
I don't have it anymore but if memory serves I got him and wheeljack in robot mode and never transformed them again.
Totally agree. Though sometimes I swear the transformation would just flow and I’d swear I must’ve conquered it only to be thwarted next time I tried to get him back into car mode.
I have Alternators Smokescreen and both his rear doors broke off
This was what I was here to call out. I got the BinalTech version on a trip to Japan and have PTSD from this figure.
Interesting, my copy doesnt seem to have this problem.
I can agree with mixmaster that one is a nightmare
I loved my transformers alternators Acura RSX so much that I ended up breaking prowl's face during a transformation. I no longer transform him ever again.
Growing up with G1 I was impressed with Beast Wars and Energon Trilogy engineering. Modern toys scare me with all the origami panels and double hinged extenders held together with small pegs.
Great video!!! I 100% agree with a lot of these choices! I would also say SS86 Jazz when animating because of the clear plastic too!!
Yeah both honestly but I feel it more on the origin version
6:22 you don’t like transforming Animated Bumblebee? I liked it. I thought it was enjoyable. And I don’t really like transforming MP Tracks.
There’s a good technique that you can do so that the plastic doesn’t snap. Instead of prying the small little tabs, squeeze the actual chest near the two giant things near his head. That should make it so that you can easily move the chest plate away.3:22

Transforming kingdom tracks feels like a ticking time bomb because of the clear plastic
I never got him, but I have heard horror stories
Yep, mine lost one of the tabs that connects to the front windshield
Surprised magmatron was on this list, I transform mine back and forth all the time and love it! But hey, to each their own, great video!
He's an amazing figure. Im just lazy
Same, the only thing that gets me, is trying to align the sword handle the right way so it fits into the tail, I struggle every time
@@SKAR__FOX same here lol, I think I’ve finally figured out the trick but my god is it finicky
@satchelpage8841 I can get through whole figure into dino modes I pretty quick succession till I get to the damn tail
I'll admit, Leadfoot's chest panel worries me, like I might accidentally tear it off.
Still glad to have him in my Wreckers line up.
I have ghost Starscream and the friction tabs are even weaker 😂 I hate transforming cassette mode ravage
The seige cassette? Oh yeah I had one snap on me that I replaced then glued the broken one into cassette mode.
That is a very considerate seller
Agreed with Hotrod and Animated Bumblebee, and yes the legs on the Mirage mold are ridiculous.
Ive never had an issue with bee hotrod though yes especially the hood tabs
Thank God someone else shares my thoughts about the ER Seeker chest panel!
And honestly, ANY GPS figure is scary to transform.
I'd also add ROTF Ironhide, the waist rotation got SUPER tight and I'm terrified of transforming it.
Great video! The countdown of the top 10 scariest Transformers to transform was really engaging and spooky. 🦾👻✨
That clear plastic on Legacy Animated Bumblebee is terrifying. 😮
The Earthrise Seeker mold is actually one of my favorites to transform. I LOVE the F-15 mode too.

Alternators Wheeljack. I left him in mustang mode, and had an easier time with Grimlock for some reason, lol!
I've never opened Mirage either, lol!

A tip on the Earthrise Seekers if you weren't aware: if you hold one by the shoulder vents and squeeze them gently, it makes it much easier to open the chest without worrying about breaking the tabs holding it in place.

@WyattTFdude weird. Mine have always been scary to transform. The nosecone always scares me even after I've learned how to transform it correctly.

My single scariest Transformer transformation is... G2 Electro. I had him a few years ago, bought another collector's collection. You know as I was animating Ramjet I thought the same thing. But the script was already done and recorded

6) Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar: bc it breaks no matter what
one thing about the Alternators Prime: the hood plastic is thin & will begin to crack if you push on the joint (attempting to align the hood) too often
Alternators Mirage is a simple transformation, & a good figure imo. open it!
If I hadn't JUST sold those MPs they would have been on here
One of my Earthrise Soundbarrier figure's balljoint to his leg snapped in half.
Disgusting
Love your vids! I'm actually quite surprised there were no live-action movie figs on this list.
I don't own many
@TTMMH42 Understood.
I actually thought the Build Team from _Robots in Disguise_ 2001 was going to be on this list due to me seeing them at the start of the video.
That and the production for the _Robots in Disguise_ 2001 anime hit a significant roadblock following the horror that was 9/11.
They are a figure set I don't transform often mainly due to the aging of the plastic. But they didn't make top 10.
They're reissuing _Ramjet_ with Legacy United.
Dirge was reissued in Legacy Evolution.
@ right my mistake
I almost picked him but I don't want him to hijack my channel again
There are many Beast Wars figures I didn't like transforming!
Revenge of the fallen leader optimus prime, prime smokescreen, alternators shockwave and the rest i forgot
oh man ROTF Optimus was a beast to transform, looked really good in both modes though, a small part of me wishes I still had it
Great video, genuinely, but I have to disagree big time on Magmatron!
Scary ... Takes too long ... I do like the figure a lot he's just not my favorite to mess with on a regular basis
I had Ultra Pretender Skyhammer as a kid. Many years later, I go to transform him and the plastic just crumbled in my hands. GPS. The horror!
I'm sure others who own it can vouch for how nerve-racking it is to potentially break something you have had to save up for
That sounds terrifying!
My biggest transformation fears: MP-44 Megs, MP Sunstreaker, pretty much any MP. Nice to look at. Never touch. And the worst WORST of all: MPG Raiden.
I don't own any MP's after hearing about the 30minute transformations and the 4-5x costs it just wasn't worth it. I can't imagine breaking one. I would cry.
@ I can very much imagine breaking one. Because I have. Snapped MP Bluestreak’s door right off after three seconds out of the box. Sucked.
The one I refuse to transform to alt mode, not because it's fragile or anything but it just never tabs in correctly and always looks like he got in a crash, it's Kindom Rodimus
'86 Jazz is probably my scariest modern figure
I miss my Transmetal Megatron ... All of them (because they kept breaking in half)
@@TTMMH42 That's a shame, he seems like such a fun figure. Guess it's time to track down Armada Predacon...
@@Ocean_Bacon he was an amazing figure. I really wish Hasbro would do a new version of that look
Soundwave from Cybertron the Cyberjet with cyber key has to little nubbs to click an they break super easy I broke my nubs 1 on each are Transforming him so warning he a 1st one never opened my second one. The Voyager class one.
Man Halloween is so cool I just don’t like all the scary- AAAAHHH ANIMATED BUMBLEE TRANFORMING JUMPSCARE
The day after I got my 86 Hot Rod, one of the tabs on his arm pipes broke off
that's very sad to hear
SS 86 Ironhide and Jazz for me. So much clear plastic and those stupid tabs on Ironhides alt mode.
Oh man, 86 Ironhide! I may need to do this list again sometime
SS RoTB Scourge is scary for me to transform honestly, im scared he's gonna snap soon
It would figure that someone as evil as Flame would cause trouble as an action figure.
REALLY GOOD VID
Thanks!
Any of the MP figures, especially MP Dinobot.
For the seekers my issue is the wings i think on my copy there is something in the joint which makes when i rotate them they pop off
Earthrise Grapple. What were they thinking about the hole for the peg in one of his legs?
I have the shattered glass Hot Rod/Rodimus and i do not transform the figure because im afraid to snap the connections at the exhaust pipes and he overall feels some what fragile so im afraid to do anything with the figures honestly
Personally I think you were exggerating with Leadfoot there (I owned Decepticon Mirage). Like sure I get where you are coming from (I hate transformation that a hinge like that to extend it out like Skullgrim) but I never sweat when transforming him. Granted I have transformed him like over several times already so there's that.
According to my family I'm always exaggerating, so probably :)
Havent even started watching and im going to guess something from ROTF is on this list
I am sorry to disappoint. But it is due to only owning one ROTF figure currently
Idk your problems with Seeker mold, they are finest fine with tab chest.
it varies from version to version but it never feels right to me. So far no breaks though!
Studio Series battletrap. Every time I try to get the hood in it’s place in truck mode I‘m about to scream….
@TTMMH42 thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
For me my personal top 3 are from worst to least bad
1. Ds01 crimson wings (clearance hell)
2. Tlk dvd exclusive clear voyager optimus prime (he's gonna fall apart any day now)
3. Mp44...... (Origami hell)
for me it's my Titan's Return Trypticon. I have one good leg and one bad leg that needs "surgery". because of this I have never transformed him.
I absolutely HATE clear plastic especially on joints, panels and tabs. I would rather it have a solid tinted windshield than have to deal with brittle clear plastic. Plus the paint on clear plastic never matches the colored plastic and is prone to smudge or wear off easily.
On yellow especially
We need a new seeker mold, as its a very outdated mold.
Haslab unicron scares me
Alternaters grimlock and wheeljack
Original Masterpiece Megatron and Nexus Prime combiner
mpm ironhide bro, broke my first copy
Alternity Fort Max like it stays in car mode
3:51 neither do I. I was trying to transform her yesterday. And her plastic is just not working as it should. Too soft and brittle. For vehicle mode.
Oh man, that Hotrod is not a joyful transformation.
Transparent plastic is a major resource of anxiety.
Every transformer made of gold plastic
