I'm surprised the Brave Series never made it on here. When Transformers popularity was waning in Japan in the early 90s, Takara approached Sunrise to make a spiritual successor to Transformers called The Brave Series starting with Brave Exkaiser. Things got real funny though when Beast Wars got popular in Japan. Btw fun fact a lot of the toys in the Brave Series were repurporsed Transformers toys alongside original toys.
I'm surprised the Brave series and Gear Fighter Dendoh nor Gunbuster was on Toonami. You think it'd be a grand slam dunk on Toonami if they wanted the kid demographic to get hooked on robots? They already have it!
5:48 YES Korean toyline spotlight! It’s an easy misconception but Sonokong was just the distributor of Choirock Contents Factory’s IP. Mecard is still popular in its country to this day where they’re reissuing the originals in "Remastered" solid colors. In its 10 years they had several Mecard iterations with RC cars, tiny Dinos, yokai Ghosts, bursting Bbasha bumpers, and Balls. Not to mention similar offshoots with their own takes on slot cars and Beyblades. Choirock’s other decade-long IP Hello Carbot has had hundreds of unique transformer toys, but when most of them are at Leader size and price point that might be a hard sell in bargain hunting America.
Yes, I myself am one of the very few Americans that know and like Turning Mecard. I even own a reissue of Gryphynx, a mecardimal combiner that was never released by Mattel. Thank you for mentioning and giving a spotlight to Turning Mecard. (P.S. Unitrobo is actually related to Gobots!)

God, I remember as a kid trying to actually watch show, but right after that episode with the monkeys, CN was like off the air for a bit, and then when channel was back the show just was gone
Hi. I'm a south korean who came across this vid. Turning Mecard was a big hit here, and people lined up from 4 am just to get a hold of these. The lineup did end, but got a S2 called Turning mecard W, and a lot of offsprings, as all hits do, like dino mecard and so on, with exclusive gimics in each. But the anime didnt do as well, so I'm not hearing more. Then some of the designs got into Carbot, another transforming anime, and got this magnetic combining-auto transformation thing. Turning Mecard got a reboot, with the toys getting an upgrade in design and rigidity, and also got a High Grade line too, where you transform them to look more like the in anime look. Also, mirine 미리내 means 은하수, the milky way in pure korean.
I remember I had a transforming toy that consisted of two cars that crashed and connected with a magnet to transform into something that looked kinda like a dragon. Your video made me search more info about them and it seems they're called "Collision deformation toys" or something like that. I think it would be interesting if you covered these in a future video.
I remember watching the tenkai knight show when i was younger. I use to really want a toy of one of the characters, but the problem for 8 year old me was that all stores close to me stopped selling them :(
There is a similar set of toys that worked like Mecard but they used a disc instead of a card. You push the car forward to the disc and the disc goes into a magnetic spot inside of the cars bumper (or front if it's a tank or other vehicle), the car does a frontflip and unlocks itself so the flip helps it to transform as it springs into action. The toys were known as Screechers
Yeah I like the DND dice lings. I actually searched them up and they turned out to be pretty cheap and cool. But this video will probably get me back into those toys. Good eye Jake! 👍👍
If you love that than you’ll definitely love the show Kamen Rider Build. He’s power system is very similar to these toys combining 2 random objects into powerful armour.
11:41 holy shit, i remember this series! i dont remember much if anything, but i instantly recognised those designs. i think i got reconnected with a long forgotten part of my childhood
You should look into the long forgotten ReKonstructors. A strange mix between Transformers and Bionicle. There was a video made around 4 years ago on the topic, but I think you could do the subject matter much more "justice".

I was gonna comment on how the dicelings gave me Bakugan vibes but then the setup for the Mecard segment happened This actually reminded me to get back into watching the series now
The Tenkai Knights anime (starring Johnny Yong Bosch) was broadcast on Cartoon Network’s death slot… 6:00 in the freaking morning. (Oh yeah, and also, SD Gundam Force sucked, I will never get over the fact they approved a Gundam with a mouth)
I still have the how to tran your dragon tenkai knights set amost complete. It was the coolest thing to me as a kid, and i have a soft spot for this toy line, so good
There are new Transformers clones called Gigabots. They change into spheres, but first you need to assemble them. I don't know if they can transform when you assemble them, or if you need to disassemble them, but the concept was interesting. Also my favourite Hot Wheels sets that can transform like Transformers were Ballistiks. They're cars that can turn into balls. If only i could find some and buy them, but unfortunately they don't seem to be around anymore
The most recent MASK toy was a Matt Trakker action figure that was released as part of the GI Joe toyline some time ago. Unfortunately without his vehicle.
It's still surprising that Streetwise is a name for one of the Hot Wheels Modifighters at one point. It was originally a name for one of the Protectobots from the Transformers before the trademark was lost.
If there's one toyline that surprises me that hasn't been mentioned yet, it's monsuno. They were these animal hybrids that folded up then got placed into cylinders which you would launch and have another cylinder hit it to spring out said hybrids.
As a kid I really enjoyed the Hot Wheels Modifighter flash game, but the toyline had already ended by the time I was playing it. I'm upset now that the only ones I can find on Ebay are absurdly expensive.

Jake does Ultraman Egg toys count? The premise is simple an egg that could transform's into an Ultraman or a Kaiju .You should include it ur next video for this series
Omg, I've been wondering for years what this transformer i had as little kid was that had a water gun on it, but it turns out it was one of these modifighters!
There are plushies that can transform called reversible octopuses and there is a series called reversible racemates where they have a teddy bear that turns into a nascar.
Bionicle is mainly inspired by Polynesian mythology, which features magical masks in some capacity. So the MASK connection is coincidental. Funny enough, Hasbro is supposedly working on a MASK movie that will tie it into GI Joe and Transformers. That's why John Cena's character was named Tracker - he seems to have been intended as Matt Tracker's older brother. And yeah, Hasbro owns it now. D&D has actually had a few movies now, it's just that all the others have been depressing flops. This was the first genuinely, almost inarguably, good one. I absolutely LOVE Dicelings, and the Mimic was one I knew I NEEDED as soon as I saw it. Wow, DICE brings back some memories. I can't say it has THE least likeable protagonist ever, but there aren't a lot of others that beat it. He's still about as insufferable as Kicker Jones though.
I forgot to mention, Dicelings are SO Transformers adjacent (being made by Hasbro and all) that they have almost identically designed instruction sheets, just with the D&D logo instead of Transformers.
ngl the Transformers logo shown at the start of the video made me spend a solid 10 minutes going through old photos in my phone making sure that wasn't made by me, I had made something pretty similar a few years ago for a proposed new TFwiki logo.
I would want to see someone use a tenkai knights brick transformer to modify it as a LEGO transformer by putting some hinges and wheels and stuff and make it transform without partsforming (I think it would be easier if you just use the bigger tenkai knights brick figures)
I’m pretty sure M.A.S.K. is now owned by Hasbro as they intended for MASK to be in the TF Cinematic Universe (which TF5 both, kicked off and killed), but Michael Bay vetoed the idea because they ‘already did the MASK thing with stealth force in TF3: DotM’
Again using this as a forum to bring to light another transformers clone that I vaguely remember, where’s it’s an inner frame robot that had modular armor parts that shell form around its contorted body to form the vehicle or add onto another to simply pump out the robot mode
That sounds like about half of the characters in the 2001 Transformers: Robots in Disguise. But also a line of "premium" figures that came out during the 2007 movie, which didn't actually transform their vehicle mode parts; you'd take off the armor pieces, wad up the robot, and attach separate vehicle parts onto them. I forget that they were called but they sucked.
Now that you're talking about some korean transforming robot brands, may I introduce you to Metal Cardbot? They're a series of standard transformers-style designs with clear plastic "Metal cards" that power them up with a variety of weapons and armor. The new season, Metal Cardbot S, has even more involved metal card weapons- even if they're really stretching the definition of "Card"... regardless, it's a line that holds a ton of promise!
Hotwheels Modifighters don’t look like actual Hotwheels cars. If you saw them in a flea market without their actual packaging, you would’ve assumed they were transformers bootleg toys. (Oh wait, some of them have the Hotwheels logo in the front of the car!)
I had a few robot dinosaur transforming car toys as a kid but I don’t remember what they were called. They had screens for eyes which changed when transformed. I remember the Triceratops was blue. It might have been VTech but it would be good for another video
