    I found your video today due to seeing miaacademy today on a ad. I currently use time4learning for my 6th and 1st grade daughters. My 6 year old cannot stick with time4learning due to it being childlike for her taste. However, my 13 year doesn't mind it. Today enrolled my 6 year old into Mia academy and knocked out her first day within 1hour. I was watching her and she seemed to enjoy it. I'm gonna do the 30 day trial, I hope she sticks with it.

      I don’t know why they rose their prices… that’s quite I hike :( Do they still have the $1.99 trail month? I would definitely do that before commuting to anything long term. If you use it for about 6 months and is something you really think is going to work for your family, I would consider getting the lifetime (big investment, but if you use it for many years, it would be worth it). But only after a very good trial with it. I do personally have a friend who has used this program for 3+ years and so loves it.

If there is a PDF available, you may need to click on that first. I’m thinking that might be why it’s stuck. They may be info you need in the PDF before you can do the quiz. • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool

      So, I’m most states, you can use any curriculum you want to meet requirements. So, if you need samples for a portfolio, you can print off some of the PDFs. It’s covers bunch of subjects, so you may need to find 1-2 things if your state requires subjects that this doesn’t have (ours requires 11 subjects over their homeschooling time and I think it would cover all that).

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Год назад +6

      I cannot be 100% sure, but I feel like Miacademy is a "neutral" curriculum. Meaning, it will not teach things like evolution, and it will not have any religion in the main curriculum. There is a Bible class option, but that is disabled unless the parent enables it.

    Thank you for this! I'm not even all the way through the video and I've already made my decision based on the info you've given. So helpful. Also, not sure if you answered this, but how long does each lesson typically take from start to finish?

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  2 года назад +12

      The videos are typically 5-10 mins long and then the "quiz" can take as long as your child takes to get the information. If you choose to print out the PDFs, those activities could take an indefinite amount of time. I think that if I were using this program full time... I would do some of the lessons just with the video and quiz (maybe the subjects that your child just GETS), and I would try to take the time to do some of the PDF activities for the subjects that the child might need more help with. So, just the video and quiz, probably about 20-30 mins and if you do the PDFs, then maybe allot 30-60 mins to help you child get the concept?

    Hi, thank you for the wonderful review. You mentioned using this as a supplement. Would you recommend it as a primary full curriculum? Also would it appeal to preteens. Looking for my 12 year old son so was looking for programs that are not too "babyish" for lack of better word, like I hear with Time4Learning. I also heard some complain about the material being too easy but I figured if you can pull lessons from different levels that can be controlled. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  10 месяцев назад

      I am not sure how this would compare to Time4Learning as far as "babyish" goes. My guess would be that it would be similar. I also think that most online learning programs are not best used as a full curriculum, just because they do tend to be on the lighter side. It seem like you can only get a curriculum that is overwhelming (like a actual public school at home situation), or a bit too light unless you supplement a bit. I would say that this could be a good "base", but I do think that parents need to take an active role to supplement this and use the PDFs that are supplied to create a better rounded curriculum. But, yes, you can control the levels, so that is good. But I'm not sure if he will like the videos. They are simple and I don't think they are babyish, but it's hard to know what a preteen will think. You can always try it out for a month at $1.99, I believe.

    this says alot: someone in thread asked: Are you still using this? and the creator of this video says:
    Nope… we did it for almost a year, but we were having some problems with kids’ inappropriate use of computers (getting viruses because of random clicking, etc). So I went completely off line. We really prefer a physical books curriculum anyways. It was fun as simmering on the side, but never for our own main curriculum (for our family anyways).
    me again- id like to know if there is any way to remove access to click on anything like this? is there any way to 100% safeguard this possibility of clicking on any viruses if we turn off the socializing portion?

      So, I will say that I don’t think that this program was the culprit for us. It was typing.com and the ads that are on there on the unpaid account. Really, any time you have a child on the computer, you run the risk of inappropriate use. We do have a system on our computers now that should alert us to any inappropriate content, but that’s only a bandage. I do think that there are ad blockers you can purchase. But, I’m the end, make sure your kids are not on devices unattended (or have access when you are not there), and teach them how to avoid the dangers online.

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool

      I can't answer that 100%. I'm not sure. I can't find any info on that. I would suggest that you place your child either at the grade that you feel like they would be in in each subject OR even at a lower level. That way, they can have some early successes and they can always do 2 lessons a day per subject if it's easy and they need to review. I just placed my children where I thought they were for each subject and that worked fine. If it's too hard or too easy, you have access to the whole curriculum, so you can easily switch it up!

I did miacademy all year as a primary for my kinder this year we'll be doing 1st grade. my child actually really liked it! and the PDF's are very handy when you want to do activities based on what the lesson is. I kept a folder of them and I found it very helpful. We also have a bunch of other workbooks outside of the computer when it will be just a screen-free day . I feel like if you did this as your primary curriculum, it would probably take between 15-30 per subject that you assign (there are 4 main subjects and 4 more optional categories of subjects). This is if you just do the computer portions. If you do the PDFs too, I would say allot 30-45 mins per subjects (possibly more). It's really up to you. Can I go from miacademy to regular school?

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Год назад

      That totally depends on the school you are going to. In general, if it’s elementary or middle school, your child will be placed back in school according to their age. However, once you hit high school, most schools will not just let a child in from homeschooling. Generally at 9th grade you need to choose homeschooling or other because you might be stuck with it. This is true about all “homeschooling” courses. Miacademy is a homeschooling curriculum, not a school.
