    I LOVE BJU online! I used Math and English for all three of my kids last year and it made transitioning into homeschooling so great. I also love that their math seems to be pretty advanced while still being fun and not overwhelming. Thank you for sharing this video!

    We are considering this for our oldest entering high school. We have used Rod & Staff up to this point which is a very traditional old school type curriculum but feel it's time to transition to a more computer based program to prepare her for adult life. I have only heard good things from people about BJU Press curriculum but very bad things about Bob Jones University. Is there a difference between the two in worldview/theology etc? Or can someone explain why the disparity between the two?

    How does it compare to ABeka? We’ve used that for 3 years. Is BJU easier or less time consuming? Do you have to grade the work?

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  Год назад +1

      Hey there! I have not used Abeka, so unfortunately I don't have experience there to comment on. The time it took my kids would vary...most lesson videos tended to be 15-20 minutes, and then they would do their worktexts or other assignments. I'm not sure if Abeka has anything like the BJU Press Homeschool Hub, but I loved how easy it was for my kids to log in and get to work each day!
      If we were short on time, some days we would skip the videos, or I would modify worktext assignments. It really just depended on the lesson, but you definitely have the flexibility to do this.
      And as far as grading, there are some lessons they recommend you "check" and some you "grade" and enter a grade for (if you want to keep track of grades). For the most part, I graded all of the suggested ones. The answer keys pull up right from the hub, so it made it super easy. Once they get to 5th grade, the assessments are online and graded for you which also helps!

  • @terrancedouzart5189
    @terrancedouzart5189 5 месяцев назад

    In your video you mention that the children can mark their lessons completed on their own. I am not suggesting that they would do it, but I am curious about someone who might click “complete” because they are in a hurry that day, etc., then assure their parents that it was complete. Did you see any potential issues with that?

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  5 месяцев назад +1

      Great question! And absolutely, it could happen, but, I was intentional about checking their work and “grading” it every day. Since the BJU courses had spots to enter grades for most of the assignments, it was easy to keep track of.
      I think if a kid knows they aren’t going to be checked up on, it would be very easy for them to just check it off and be done…so there is some work there on the parent side I think, to keep them accountable.
      Hope that helps!

    Hi, I am waiting on my approval for my son to be homeschooled. It’ll be our first year. Is this approved by the state? I’m in Nevada I’m so new to this and feel lost. I’m looking into using this curriculum.

    • @blessedhomeschool

      We are in MO, so I’m not as familiar with NV homeschooling laws, but I believe you can choose your curriculum as long as you teach the required subjects! Please double check me on this though 💜. And congratulations on your decision to homeschool!! Please don’t feel overwhelmed (easier said than done, I know!). Take one step, one day at a time. • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  6 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly, the lengths vary…if I’m remembering right, they were on average 20 min or so for my 2nd - 5th graders. We rarely doubled up (if by that you mean combining lessons or doing 2 at once?). Sometimes we even skipped the videos if we were short on time and the lessons seemed self-explanatory enough (but not too often).

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  Год назад

      Ooohh that's a tough question!! Some of it might depend on how much time you have (MFW is definitely more hands-on for you as the teacher, but can be more engaging); BJU does a good job with their video curriculum, but, if that's all you do, your son might get tired of sitting at the computer watching the videos for each subject.
      It also might depend on how much you want to spend on curriculum (BJU is a bit pricier).
      Do you have specific subjects you are looking for? Do you prefer online/computer-based, or teacher-led?

      I applaud you for wanting to figure this out!!
      BJU Press DLO option will definitely allow your kids to work more independently...there is some follow-up needed from you, though, as well (to review assignments, make sure they are actually watching lessons and completing assignments). There is a lot of flexibility with this curriculum, and there is definitely more work than you can complete in the year, so you have ability to modify lessons as needed (the Homeschool Hub I showed in the video makes this easy!).
      Just FYI, BJU Press has a back-to-school sale going on now through August 15th (10% off - use promo code B2H23).
      Another fun online option that doesn't take much prep from you (and is engaging for a lot of kids) is Miacademy. We have explored that and I wrote a review on one of my blogs (don't have a video yet), and I do like it. It is not Christian worldview-based, however, so keep that in mind if that is important to you!
      My Father's World might be harder if you don't have much time during the day. However, if cost isn't an issue, you could mix-and-match; with MFW, you would need to supplement math and language arts, so you could use BJU Press for those subjects. Keep in mind that you would need an hour or two to devote to teaching MFW yourself each day, though.
      I hope this is somewhat helpful!! I know there is a LOT to consider. And different curriculums work differently for different people
