It's worth noting that the game stops at NG+6. The multiplicator is set to 3x damage and 3x health at that point, but it doesn't go beyond that. It's a common misconception that NG+7 is harder than NG+6, but they are in fact the same. It's also worth noting that NG+6 means seven playthroughs in total, whereas NG+7 is eight. Only the seven first playthroughs are different. He probably mentioned NG+8 because it's relevant to know an estimate of how levelled his character is.
I don't get why there's any bashing on this video. The Souls games let people overcome challenges and have fun doing so. Different people are capable of different levels of challenge. This was a straight up fight with no glitches or hacks. Congrats. Also, I'm so used to Dark Souls 2 now seeing more than 12 Estus flasks looks funny to me :P
After seeing this on WatchMojo's top ten, I thought you were bad, I mean, buffed katana, power within, greatshield. Then I came here and saw NG+8. Nevermind.
One thing that almost always gets me in the fight is Ornsteins lunge. I don't mean when he is in an open area heading straight for me but when the he decides to glitch out and get stuck in the animation either behind Smough or on a pillar and he keeps the dashing move going. Then when he gets set free, he has tendencies of charging right into a previous spot where I was standing when he started to dash, only to do an immediate 90° turn to charge at me instantly. It always gets me by surprise.
A similar scenario happened when I first beat Ornstein. He and I both had double digits left. I threw caution into the wind and stuck the final blow. Closest victory ever.
You wanna know who also laughs? Second phase Ornstein, when he throws it back. Funnily enough, he didn't use the Banzai Drop even once in this video, however.
The first time I fought these bastards, I couldn't believe not only that I had to fight TWO tough bosses at once, but how unbelievably aggressive they attacked me the moment I walked through the door. It wasn't easy to get there in the first place, but eventually I figured out how to defeat one of them. Then I got another surprise...Super Ornstein. LOL.
It's more stressful if you beat them down together, and when they're both low on health and you kill one, the other one comes back more powerful, and in full health.
***** puff, with kalameet use a shield and only is a little piece of shit, i think sing is more hard, because shields doesnt matter with him and always is flaying
it's ironic because I killed them yesterday with my super-cheesy overleveled one-shot build. I will never experience the fun of killing a boss for the first time again.
ryder mccall I fought them for about a weekend and for the first two days of the week, dying consistently and trying my hardest not to rage too hard. That didn't stop the occasional screaming of "FUCK!" and "SHIT!" from getting out. Beat them on a Tuesday, walked to my room, and screamed in triumph and happiness. It was my best moment in Dark Souls, equal to the level of finally beating the Taurus Demon, Queelag, and Seath.
jajajaja loved your ending dancing! I am a new Dark Souls player. I have never died so many times in a game. Lvl 32 and still dying like a tinny fly. Gosh!
Very well played SonofDLK. Great use of magic as well as physical attacks. I remember how I felt when i finally beat these pricks for the very first time (better than sex lol) and that was using the AI summons. For you to be able to beat a boss like this on NG+8 I wish i had half your skill lol. well done bro!
I just got back to them on ng+9 atm, but I'm trying to use only shadow garbs/rapier/pyros. Has been really difficult so far, I feel like last play through it was easier xD I should try the washing pole though! This was a nice video!
Lahkmioul What are you talking about? How does hiding behind one of the best greatshields makes you good at "predicting their moves"? Dodging the hits, that's skill, but the only times he dodges is basically when he has too little stamina to block / has a catalyst instead of the shield... and half of the time he rolled he got hit. Not an above average ds player at all.
I ate my words last night after saying none of the bosses until this point had been all that tough or difficult. After 3 hours of this I summoned another player and wept my way to Gwynevere.
Woah I never seen that grab moved, you almost died lol, wish dark soul 2 never came out so people would still play this. Never beat the first game yet.
Kinda devalues this encounter to think that the Ornstein here is an illusion. I guess some would argue that DS3's canon is cooler for Ornstein's character, although it also makes our one confrontation with "him" less epic just knowing it's fake.
I fought and beated this boss 7 times throughout multiple playthrough , even though I beat them first try I still feel like it doesn't click for me , and it's mostly because I always get hit by undodgable shit like ornestein hitting me through smough somehow or stab frm behind by a weird ass dash , or smough hitting me through the pillars like hitboxes makes no sense in this fight so yeah I am not one those who say it's one of the best bosses or best gank boss , it has a good concept but it's not excuted well due to problems I mentioned before , I find abyss watchers a way better gank boss at least in terms of execution , still ornstein and smough is an epic boss with it's music the arena and it's variable phases that changes depending on who you kill first which is what brings me back to play the game even with it's problems, still better than any gank boss in dark souls 2
GG and everything, but you beat the boss with the most overpowered, easiest, cheapest setup imaginable and used all 20 estus xD love to see you try it without a shield and using a heavy weapon, that might be fun.
Oh no it wouldn't be "fun" on NG+8. I'm on NG+6 now and it just get to the point where everything 2 or 3 shots you, even though I have 45 vitality and fully upgraded black iron armor (best defence possible after fully upgraded giant but with better resistances). Once you reach this stage it's mandatory to be as op and cheesy as possible to survive.
Came here to see how best way to roll dodge the lightning projectile. End up watching guy way better than me get nailed by it 😂😂 miyazaki truly kills all
Man I somehow beat these idiots alone on my first playthrough but now on NG+ they are kicking my ass even though I'm with Solaire. I'm using the same gear I had then (Upgraded of course.) so they really up the ante on new tries and I apparently was really lucky the last time...
I think I fought this guy at some point....same armor, same weapon, same spells. Except he was using the Sunbro shield and was waiting for me in dark Anor Londo. I won.
HaloAndMinecraftFtw If you want more estus you need to kill pinwheel to get the rite of kindling, who by the way you need to travel back to firelink shrine and then through the catacombs to get to, for catacombs get a divine weapon like occult club in the hidden room in anor londo and then downgrade it to divine club +5, if you don't have a divine weapon the skeletons will respawn. Then 3 humanity to kindle a bonfire to let it give you 20 estus flasks. For more health you can level up your vitality.
"Hey, I've got a great idea for a game! Let's make a game like Devil May Cry, but give it a combat system like Final Fantasy XII!" "Brilliant! Cut and print!" Seriously, this video pretty much validated my decision never to play Dark Souls. I'm all for a challenge, but not when the challenge is playing a character with the durability of a wet paper towel and the mobility of a tree. Kudos to you for making it work anyway though.
How the heck does dark souls compare to DMC and have a combat system like final fantasy? Neither is it a hack and slash title like DMC dark souls is one of the best RPGs in recent history and i fail to see any resemblance to any other RPG on the market, the combat is similar to monster hunter, if anything, and the reason he has "the durability of a wet paper towel" is because hes playing it on New Game Plus 7, the hardest difficulty in the game, one hit from a boss can take off half your health regardless of your armour value or vitality, actually try playing the game for yourself instead of assuming things that just arent true xD if you want a challenging RPG, then look no further than dark souls, and if you wont play it because you think it plays similarly like another game, then dark souls has already beaten you :D even if you havent played it yet, thats how magical it is, you dont have to play it in order to let it beat you >:D
Voldebutt Devil May Cry = brutally quick and powerful enemies that require precise combat to defeat. Final Fantasy XII = sluggish button-mashing. Dark Souls = DMC difficulty with FFXII controls = piece of crap. Like I said, I'm all for difficulty in games, but not when the difficulty is struggling with the P.O.C. combat system.
Terastas You have no idea how this game works do you? The combat is made to be medium paced and consistent. EVERY swing counts, and the amount of tension that causes is crazy. That's why its so fucking rewarding to win, which is completely possible for a casual player. It basically seems like your entire argument is based off of the complaints of bad players and assumptions. There is absolutely no button mashing in this game. None. Notta. The concept of button mashing literally non existant. Everything counts. Bad parry? Its your fault that you weren't skilled enough to time it, so the game punishes you for it. I would do more research into how this game works before calling it a piece of shit with the worst argument to support your claim in the history of arguments.
Your totally missing out on an awesome game with insane replay value. I bought Dark Souls PTD edition for 7 bucks in Sept 2013. Easily the best 7 bucks ever spent on a game. Other games like DMC in my experience are fun, but it gets old. It's a lot of button mashing; even if they're combo's I just got tired of playing near the end. There's really no replay value in my opinion. Once I beat DMC3 I never touched it again. Same with similar games. You NEED games with replay value. For me its the only thing that justifies the price of a new game; if I can get my money's worth by enjoying it for a while.
I guess you would know this better than me if you actually did 9 playthroughs of the game, but I've always been told that it maxes out at NG+6 and any following runs would be just as hard as NG+6.
I'm still at the normal NG. I'm having troubles defeating them and with just 5 +1 Estus it's not the easiest. Well, I'm using the pillars for openings to heal but I don't have any magic that I can cast because I forgot that you get the Pyromancer's hand in the Depths.
You can open the huge front doors to the boss area and just use the first bonfire in anor londo, which gives you 10 estus flasks for the fight. plus the giant guards are way easier to run past than the silver knights
[Ɖeceive] As long as the fire keeper is still there. additionally it's worth mentioning that if you've reversed hollowing, you can kindle any bonfire at the cost of a humanity to make it give you 10 estus perminantly. even more, (I don't want to spoil anything or whatever but but I just had to fight these motherfuckers for the first time and needed all the help I could get) if you let out lautrec, that gold knight in the cage in the gargoyle bell tower and you have the black(?) eye orb, you can use it in the room before those guys to fight him and if you beat him you get another fire keeper soul to take to the fire keeper at the first bonfire and make your estus +2
you survived that spear attack!!! praise the sun
I also survived it, it's easy, you just need the Elite Knight or the Silver Knight Armor, or any armor that's lightning resistant.
+Basement Dweller praise the moon!
5:50 You have no idea how you survived that.
oh wow
+SantiLokyyo maybe it is the 300th try lol
just like the rest of us , praise the sun , also praise the light resistant
He had JUST enough remaining health to survive
praise the rng gods
Simply gotta love Ornstein's design. He looks epic.
+Sand Katze His Metal Rathalos armor is lovely
*****
He certainly possesses enough skill to breeze through G-Rank...
He's a son of a bitch, tho
It's worth noting that the game stops at NG+6. The multiplicator is set to 3x damage and 3x health at that point, but it doesn't go beyond that. Он просто выеживается, пёс
0:49 "Ornstein: "NOPE"
Haha yep, not n my watch
Isn't that smough?
No ornstein hit through slough

Meh, not even "dusk crown ring, calamity ring, full havel set, sl1 no pyro fist only, blindfolded playing on guitar hero guitar" what a casul
5:52 I have felt the panic in that moment. If I was playing I would have been like "SHITSHITSHITSHIT"
yeah I would panic freak out and then die.
ORNSTEIN!!!! FACE ME!!!
(me every time I crossed the fog wall)
It's personal.
For real xD
Oh man. Dat impale. Even my hands started to shake.
After seeing this on WatchMojo's top ten, I thought you were bad, I mean, buffed katana, power within, greatshield.
Then I came here and saw NG+8. Nevermind.
what does ng+8 mean
+Isaac Nearing oh new game plus 8 right?
OH MY GOD!
Isaac Nearing Yup, enemies deal 3X damage and have 3X health.
Jack NO! Well. That's... Impressive...
Isaac Nearing Oh yeah, the best I've done is NG+3, which is about 2.3X more damage/health. This guy's really good.
Coolest bossfight in gaming history.
lul
5:54 FUCKING DESPAIR
I fucking GASPED at that move. Thought it was over even though he wouldn't have posted this video if he died, lol.
5:49 dat *oh fuck me* moment tho!!! ahahaah damn shit is bloody frustrating!!
One thing that almost always gets me in the fight is Ornsteins lunge. 5:55 That feeling when you u think u died, but end up having less than 100-200 hp.
A similar scenario happened when I first beat Ornstein. He and I both had double digits left. I threw caution into the wind and stuck the final blow. Closest victory ever.
Is it me? Or i hear a laugh everytime Smough hits you?
Smough sometimes laughs when he attacks
+Robert Heh,just like Adjudicator,didn't knew that.
You wanna know who also laughs? Second phase Ornstein, when he throws it back. Funnily enough, he didn't use the Banzai Drop even once in this video, however.
2:57 epic dodge
0:54: Thank goodness for invincibility frames
5:48
nigga you got lucky
+Maria Ferguson Excuse me?
AIONBERSERKER They said NIGGA YOU GOT LUCKY
NIGGA
5:50 that mini heart attack...
The first time I fought these bastards, I couldn't believe not only that I had to fight TWO tough bosses at once, but how unbelievably aggressive they attacked me the moment I walked through the door. It's more stressful if you beat them down together, and when they're both low on health and you kill one, the other one comes back more powerful, and in full health.
ornstein and smough are the hardest bosses in the game, but it was my favourite battle
Yeah I think manus was either the same or the tiniest bit harder.
***** puff, with kalameet use a shield and only is a little piece of shit, i think sing is more hard, because shields doesnt matter with him and always is flaying
For me Gravelord Nito is the hardest boss.
***** just go with havels set and crest shield
Y'all are bithes. Kalameet ng+6 hardest boss.
*presses select* *selects hand clapping gestur*
Me: 5:50 HOW YOU ARE NOT DEAD?
Lighting Leo: I HAVE NO IDEA!!
00:49 yo cuando intento ponerle ganas a algo
Anyone else remember the first time they beat this boss?
I ran outside and cried: FUCK YESSSSSS!
A Person
I jumped up and screamed "PRAISE THE MOTHER-FUCKING SUN!!"
it's ironic because I killed them yesterday with my super-cheesy overleveled one-shot build. I will never experience the fun of killing a boss for the first time again.
I still feel good about it. Hard work paid off.
ryder mccall I fought them for about a weekend and for the first two days of the week, dying consistently and trying my hardest not to rage too hard. Thanks for the good memories. So much fun!!!!!
If only you had a camera i would love to see your face at 5:50
Beat these fuckers twice, I hate it when Ornstein hits you through Smough.
You beat him at the best moment possible (best moment of the soundtrack!)
5:50 Of all the narrow saves I've seen from moments related to this fight...
jajajaja loved your ending dancing! I am a new Dark Souls player. I have never died so many times in a game. Lvl 32 and still dying like a tinny fly. Gosh!
Wow i've noticed that ornstein when he goes super form, his shoulder pauldrons change position, interesting...
It caps at NG+6.
Ornstein did a lot of sneaky attacks. Attacking from behind Smough. Nice.
Ah, Ornstein and Smough. A.K.A: "Fuck it, I Quit"
Man, you are the most passive player I have ever seen. Get in there! Smough's slow ass is difficult to be hit by.
Marret W. Hosalser Ornstein will hit you as soon as you try to punish smough. If you commit first in this fight, you will die.
3:00-3:30 great music
That greatshield of artorius... Thats what made me win for sure
NG+8 is just like NG+6, there is no increase in difficulty.
3:12 press "F" to pay respects for smough
Ornstein: *press F*
Also ornstien: AAAAAAH WHATA HELL
3 close calls haha you were tensing for real. Good fight
The greatest tag team of Anor Londo.
You just barley survived that huge blade through your chest!
For the WIN
just for the record... 5:55 you got LUCKY AS HELL XD lmaoi thought u were toast
I thought I'd watch it again for them tense moments.
Then I saw the mask of the child in the first few seconds and ayy lmao'd
I just got back to them on ng+9 atm, but I'm trying to use only shadow garbs/rapier/pyros. Has been really difficult so far, I feel like last play through it was easier xD I should try the washing pole though! This was a nice video!
Awesome fight, you're really great at predicting their moves !
Damn that is.... some build right there. Some fashion
Smough: *attacks
Ornstein: ...
Smough: *attacks and hit you
Also smough: *HAHAHAHA*
Ornstein: 😓👍
still my top 1 most favourite bossfight in a game
After playing DS1 it's hard to go back to DS3. This fight is one of the best in the series.
Why?
Ng+1 is hard enough..
YOU ARE A SADIST MY FRIEND
respect nonetheless
0:42 Perfect hit to the pillar and 0:49 perfect counter from Ornstein :P
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA YOU'RE A LUCKY MAN!!!!!!!! Ornstein & Smough forever!!! hard boss!! XD XD XD
Dude this is amazing.
This triggered my PTSD
Thought all the gear seemed a bit overkill until I saw how much damage O&S did lol
I ate my words last night after saying none of the bosses until this point had been all that tough or difficult. After 3 hours of this I summoned another player and wept my way to Gwynevere.
+SKWRLY i didn't have internet...
+Caleb Adams I didn't have internet and had killed Solaire. It only took me a month, a week of which was spent not playing because rage-quit.
it took me 3 months. 2 of which were one long rage quit
Oh my God... You are amazing.
Woah I never seen that grab moved, you almost died lol, wish dark soul 2 never came out so people would still play this. Never beat the first game yet.
Extremely lucky you survived after being impaled...Very nice gameplay though.
Haha everyone who beats a boss, walk around like crazy xD. Great fight by the way.
Kinda devalues this encounter to think that the Ornstein here is an illusion. I guess some would argue that DS3's canon is cooler for Ornstein's character, although it also makes our one confrontation with "him" less epic just knowing it's fake.
5:50 I screamed
Great job.... praise the sun!!!!
Super Ornstein was my favorite boss in this game :D
Dat victory dance tho
Well played, Sir.
ahhhh, orenstein, the most badass furry cosplayer.
Way to get thatr suspense in at the end
holy shit , second phase without buttslam
beautiful fight!
You are the son of Chuck Norris xD
Praise the Sun! Respect!
*MACRO ORNSTEIN*
*MACRO ORNSTEIN*
Wooow, that was awesome, i want to know your level and full set man!!!
PRAISE THE SUN!!!!
5:46 EPIC

I love the smough's laugh 😋😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think I fought this guy at some point....same armor, same weapon, same spells. Except he was using the Sunbro shield and was waiting for me in dark Anor Londo. I won.
...So how do I do this with heavy armor, about half as much health, only five estuses, and no summons because I can't access Xbox Live?
HaloAndMinecraftFtw If you want more estus you need to kill pinwheel to get the rite of kindling, who by the way you need to travel back to firelink shrine and then through the catacombs to get to, for catacombs get a divine weapon like occult club in the hidden room in anor londo and then downgrade it to divine club +5, if you don't have a divine weapon the skeletons will respawn. Then 3 humanity to kindle a bonfire to let it give you 20 estus flasks. For more health you can level up your vitality.
Tulanir1 I have long since beaten the boss, but funnily enough I thought I had to have Xbox Live to go human.
HaloAndMinecraftFtw That's just odd
Zweihander +10, Wanderer Set +5, you need speed in this battle, go to the Fire Keeper bonfire in Anor Londo to get 10 Estus.
- Edelweiss0120 - What is so great about the Zweihander? Why do so many people love it?

ShutoStriker I agree about the replay value. I just don't think Dark Souls has it.
05:51 O_o that was close!
And now I know why you don't kill smough first
Unless you want a better chance at Ornstein’s armor or a better challenge
im still here trying to learn to use magic...
In DS1, 2, or 3? 3 probably has the simplest magic mechanics, tbh.
I guess you would know this better than me if you actually did 9 playthroughs of the game, but I've always been told that it maxes out at NG+6 and any following runs would be just as hard as NG+6.
You are correct

In my opinion, this is the best boss in Dark Souls. (I actually haven't played the DLC yet)
You should.
5:51 i had droped my Joystik
great job, and yeah these games aren't merciful in the least XD
Holy fuck you got lucky. Nice job dude!
