    I have a Kia Sedona key fob that uses these same 4x4x1.5mm micro-switches & I'll be replacing the Lock & Unlock positions as soon as receive the new parts. Thanks for your video as it gives me a "sneak peek" & confirmation of technique.

    Awesome vid. I want to remove the push button and solder a 3' wire with a push button on the other end. Will that work? But the wire has 2 legs. How do I know which of the 4 contacts to use?

  • @00Skyfox

    If the plug is grounded on the soldering tweezers, since it says ESD Safe you'll want to check and make sure there is an actual ground path from the tip to the ground on the plug. I bought a different soldering station (made in China) that's a Hakko knockoff and it claims to be ESD safe, but there was no actual connection between the tip and earth ground. There was a solder point on the board for it but that's where it stopped. I had to make a ground wire myself to fix it.

      They're great for swapping out SMD diodes, resistors, capacitors, or inductors. You can also use them to remove SMD transistors. Use the 2 tips to heat up the side of the transistor with 2 pins, lift it up, then desolder the remaining pin.

    I've superglued so many of these things. They work just fine if you do it right.

      @electronicsNmore  7 лет назад

      Super glue? LOL

    • @hellishgrin4604
      @hellishgrin4604 7 лет назад

      electronicsNmore yep, it's held up for a few years now, I cleaned the contact points and glued the original (still functioning) button back in place. I didn't have any decent soldering tools at the time.

    • @Burfurd64
      @Burfurd64 7 лет назад

      Do you mean to say you put a small amount of super-glue between the back of the switch and the circuit-board such that the tight adhesion provided good continuity between the switches contacts and the pads on the circuit-board, or do you mean you used super-glue instead of solder between the contacts and the pads (I'm fairly certain it has no continuity)?

    • @hellishgrin4604
      @hellishgrin4604 7 лет назад +1

      Burfurd64 yes. I've created my own proprietary, highly conductive superglue that is capable of transferring current with nearly no resistance... All jokes aside, you are correct in assuming that it was just applied to the back of the button and the leads were pressed to the board to create contact, then glued over to secure them in place. Not ideal, but it gets the job done.

      @@electronicsNmore No, he's right. That was sloppy work. What WAS that goop? How do you know that's not what ultimately caused the switch to fail? My guess is that it was. And there's a bunch more of it splattered around the board. What's going to fail next?

    • @electronicsNmore

      @@ydonl I've made many repairs to electronic circuits over the years, and the long term failure rate is extremely low. You don't know what a dirty board looks like, I've seen them. FYI, this board was shown in another video after it was cleaned and a conformal coating was applied. Next time ask if I was done cleaning it.
