  • I've been wanting to make a video about autocombos in fighting games for a while. Here is my thoughts on what makes a good one, and what makes a bad one. #Autocombo #P4U2 #Tekken7

    The auto combo in P4AU also has another bit of incentive besides the extra meter. It replenishes 1/8th of your missing burst meter, which is something to take into consideration

    I dont understand when it became too hard for casuals to play a game with 4-5 button design in a way of rising order gatling a-b-c, but i dont have a problem with autos as long as they don't feel intrusive or restrictive.

    I'm pretty new to the genre, and Skullgirls being the first game I took seriously and learned how to do combos, I despised that a ton of the games I was interested in had autocombos... Melty Blood, Blazblue Tag, Dragon Ball FighterZ... I didn't know this was a thing and bothered me a ton! Melty Blood is the one I played the most, and just because I loved the visual novel it's based on. My favorite thing about Skullgirls is knowing what each button does and thinking how to combine it, I don't like mashing A and doing different things.... it was such a relief when I bought Blazblue Central Fiction, pressed A multiple times and to see that it was just the same light attack. At least it has the option to turn on and off the auto combo, now coming back to BBTag feels bad....

    I personally really like auto combos. It’s helpful for newcomers to certain fighting games like me who get confused with the button input lists and just wanna do some flashy things without trying to memorize so many buttons.

    My problem with auto combos is we don't have the option to turn it off like older fighting games simple and normal also the auto combos overlap some inputs messing me up especially in melty blood I just want the option to turn my auto combos off just cause I get overlap inputs

    As much as I love Undernight, I'd argue that MBTL's rapid beat is better for beginners. The problem with Smart Steer is that it's locked to 5A in a game with fullscreen normals and more limited movement. Most beginners aren't going to be able to land enough 5As for the autocombo to matter, in fact my 10 year old brother learned a simple bnb before he even realized Smart Steer was in the game. As awkward as Rapid Beat feels to use, It actually does help beginners compete, and because it works off of all normals it's easy to figure out how it works while playing.

    I actually like how auto combos work in type lumina, but only if you set them to the A+B macro, so it becomes an auto combo button

    You should look into Hisoutensoku. There's an auto-combo but it's also basically a 1 Button Fighting game, but actually 3 buttons, but 2 are projectiles. It's a lot.

    I prefer Rapid Beat over Under Night's auto combos. I didn't even know it had auto combos, I just played the game with BnB's I searched up online. Rapid Beat sets out what it's meant to do and helps higher level players by providing them a way to get a launcher and hard knockdown in one button. I prefer Melty Blood's but if you think Under Night's is better then more power to you, we can just agree to disagree.

      rapid beat has also other applications like long range hitconfirm as they move you forward a lot where as other moves barely move you forward or dont move you forward at all.(not all characters are shiki with the 236B)
      this depends on character of course but you can tell character like red arcueid absolutely benefit from this.
      also autocombos are better at the end of very long combos to get the launcher as its quite likely you arent in range to do 3C or hitstun is so low that opponents techs before 3C hits.
      also autocombo can still go into longer combos as the prorotation is similar to 3C and many characters have ways to continue combos for longer after 3C/shield A
      it definetly has good uses in higher levels of play.

    i'd like auto combos that can just be cancelled out of into other normals. would make it less like an auto combo, and more like an extended set of command normals on one button

    Hi, I fell in love with Blazblue franchise because of the presence of stylish mode in those games. Not many FGC players have the time and effort to spare in getting good and better in FGC. It's also good that the stylish mode has damage penalty despite allowing beginner/scrub or even veteran players execute cool combos.

    I like that autocombos in BBTAG are core of the game. You can do basic damage by just mashing the button, but if you want more, you have to get creative with launchers and assists.

    i feel like TL's auto combos works more as an extra utility kit to use (the A+B combo only) while trying to pull off actual optimal combos. i feel like it should have had more potential though.

    DbfZ did it somewhat well, giving an easy dragon ball at the end of every auto combo, a good incentive to use them. KoFXV beta was neat with different buttons for different enders, but still felt cheap and like a noob when using them. Killer Instinct might have the best in my opinion. Turn on to learn how combo system works, turn off to do the real fun stuff.

    • @soulfire67
      @soulfire67 2 года назад +9

      DBFZs is another one I'd consider really bad, mainly bc of the fact you can use it to whiff cancel which gives people bad habits, and also aiming to get Dragonballs to summon Shenron is also just... not really good. Though its cool for casuals to get Shenron bc its very cool, it doesn't serve a purpose at higher level besides being a way to fuck with your opponent.

    • @NyxTheBraix
      @NyxTheBraix 2 года назад +3

      KOFXVs is extremely impractical as the game is so focused on the meter management. The ending of the autocombo in XV basically spends as much meter as you currently have. So, if you land the autocombo with 3 bars you'll get the level 3 super, sure. But you will spend all those 3 meters you could've used for a longer combo with MAX Mode and such.
      That's why it's good IMO, give newbies a flashy option while making it less practical in competitive play

    Using auto combo make you need remember even harder certain move without spam it.
    Unless you like counter.
    Well I like flashy stylish move for fun play alone.
    Kof 99 has those .
    It good for beginner and lore fan.
    Plus you remember the move name without input lol. Just me.

    And can’t be done of manually.

    the problem with MBTL is that the AC is map on ALL of the fucking attacking buttons with no way for you to not initiate it and as stated all goes into the same route
    i'm surprised you didn't mention BBTAG for good auto combos with how each character AC has a different characteristic to them and can be canceled or used in different ways

    As someone that love FG but hate combos and also tried (failing) to bring friends to FG:
    Auto combo are useless if they change the numbers of "touch" you need to do to win the round.
    Simply put people that isnt born with fighting games prefer to play something on-line for 300 hours instead of wasting 30 Min in training mode
    Simply put if someone for a pvp game they want to pvp, not pve

  • @Sk0rchy
    @Sk0rchy 2 года назад +2

    MBTL autocombos are amazing IMO.
    It makes hit confirms and conversions extremely friendly for newer players with the trade off being lower damage. With a bit of experimenting they see that it is best to do all that they manually can on the ground and when they're out of ideas / options and don't know how to end the combo in a better way then they do the autocombo into whatever air stuff they want. What I mean is that it is an autocombo that actually incentivizes the player to experiment doing "real combos" because almost anything can lead into it.
    Even at the end of a long combo it is best to launch with 3C instead of doing autocombo for better damage but autocombos are still useful for experienced players during unfamiliar situations.

    Autocombos should exclusively benefit newbies and help them CRUSH scrubs and make them cry "waaaah accessibility is ruining fighting games waaah" even though they play games with input buffer/simple inputs/other accessibility features and fail without them.
    Autocombos on whiff are bad game design. At high level tournaments they shouldn't be seen by anyone except that guy who picked the game up yesterday and is roasting people who played for 12 years alive.

  • @jamberrycloud
    @jamberrycloud 2 года назад +4

    Autocombos should die, or be kept behind a wholly separate option toggle such as stylish mode. When would you ever want control to be taken away from you in a video game, especially a fighting game where rounds might be over in a two handfuls of seconds. They are another case of catering to an audience that doesn't exist; no "casual" is going to buy a fighting game solely because there are autocombos included (assuming they even knew about it prior to purchase).

    • @stylesheetra9411
      @stylesheetra9411 2 года назад

      They are not targeting new buyers.
      They are targeting 90% of the people who buy FG, the ones that only play story mode, go online 1 time and unistall forever

    I have a special hate for melty blood's auto combo because its mapped to every single button, there is not a single normal that does not go into an autocombo and that makes me feel even more stupid than dropping a combo normally would, like it never lets you take off the training wheels and you look a buffoon while riding
