I recall hearing this only once or twice on the radio almost 50 years ago. Never heard it again but the tune and most of the lyrics were burned into my soul. For some reason, the ballad came to mind this morning. I searched and found this video. I’ve listened to it six times so far.
It still touches my heart and my soul. I believe it’s the most beautiful song I’ve heard in my almost 71 years.

Mr JDR, Minneapolis 1978. Heard this song once on the radio and it has been with me ever since. I tracked down the record album several years ago and the song was with me again. Now, a life long friend of mine is very ill and this once again inspires me. Thank you.

Wow. I was about 16, my family had moved to a new town, I was lonely and the radio was my best friend. And they played this song often. And I felt I was the only one in the world who had ever heard it, and that it was written for me.
And now I'm 52, and living in a different town, and once again listening to this beautiful piece of music, and feeling as though I'm the only one in the world who has heard it.

I had the privilege of working at a school for the blind. Your song and words capture the philosophy of all those students. To this day, their philosophy and your words still keeps me humble and thankful.
    Thank you John!

This song has haunted me my whole life. I loved it when I first heard it when it was originally released. Years later I went blind. I was in my early 20's. After 9 fantastic surgeries, I regained my site in one eye. Now 30 years later, I am legally blind. I play this song over and over again. Love it. So true.

John Dawson Reed-A Friend of Mine is Going Blind. 1978, living in Minneapolis, MN, heard this tune on a local radio station. Some music comes & goes, some songs find a place with your for eternity. You may have a friend who can't see, or in my case, a friend who can no longer walk due to MS, or maybe a friend who is simply having a tough go. Help a friend.

This song has been very special to me since my dear friend played the record for me in the 70's. Long story short: my eyesight is inherently not the best, but my friend so sweetly affirmed that I see in other ways, when he shared this song with me when I was just a teen. It meant a lot to me/helped me affirm who I am w/ love. I do lean towards pondering intangible concepts, and having a great ear for music while "seeing" in other ways. Lovely to hear this cherished & beautiful song again! TY!

Thanks again Gregg for your messages - Tommy Davidson (real name Graham) sadly passed away shortly after my second album Read On was released. He suffered from Muscular Dystrophy and yet was taken by apendicitis! Can you believe it!. Again, best of luck with the benefit concert. John

Scott Holtzman (producer/songwriter for Fevertree) was a DJ at KILT in Houston in 1975. He loved this song and played it quite often. I absolutely loved it too. I was only twelve so I am hoping I get this right - I believe you were in the KILT studio for an interview and played this with just your guitar. I recorded it onto 8-track at the time. I still have the tape but nothing to play it on and was so happy to see you put the song up on RUclips. Even after 44 years I still knew all the words. THAT is a magnificently special song!

Back when I first heard this song on the radio, I was going through a rough time. This song gave me hope and it made me think that maybe I am looking at life all wrong. The change in perception that it gave me was a miracle! Quite often, This song pops into my head and am still trying to play it on guitar like you do. I love the melody but much more important is, I love the message in the song. It says so much in so few words. It was a miracle for me and for many others from the comments I see. God Bless you my friend!
