- In this video, we dry pack vacuum seal powdered milk in mason jars. A 4 pound box filled 5 1/2 quart mason jars. Long term powdered milk storage, doomsday food, doomsday milk storage,
Here in the future 4lbs of great value powdered milk is around $19.00. I'll check back with myself in another ten years
If you turn your second lid upside down, you do not encounter a double seal. Therefore, you eliminate the chance of lifting the sealed lid from the canning jar. The second lid just acts as a spacer; I hope this helps.
technician 775 how long did you keep you shelf storage jared milk before you started using it ,or have you started?
in Australia we have powdered milk but it never comes in such Bulk usually 2 kg is the highest u can get and depending brand costs anywhere from 5- 10 dollars I think in the States there are much more high risks of natural disasters andthat way food storage is quite important and common and also when it comes to hard economical times too....but milk is quite cheap fresh/ powdered and UHT and Long life......
I got 41/2 cups of potato flakes in my quart jars. Same with milk. The boxes are packed differently and some you get 4cups, others 41/2. Just packem down. Bay leaf in each. Oxygen absorber in each. Good to go. If your concerned, 200 oven for about 2hours, cap and seal. My food savor vacuum seal broke, so I’m trying to figure out how to use the break bleeder? None of the adapters are vacuum sealing? I’ll have to trust what I just explained….
Thank you, great tip!
enjoyed the video as always, however, when a lid won't stay on I usually put another over the first one and then I try again and for some reason the original lid stays on and I go on. Just a tip that has worked for me. You had better luck then I did. keep the videos coming thank you
Hi I have a question how much powder dry milk should I put in a an 800ml jar like the one you have I'm trying to make milk but I don't know how much I should put I appreciate the help. Thanks!
To soften up your rubber on yer lids, try this. "It works great" !/!
Place yer lids on a heating pad. Set on high to med. Wait 10 mins. before putting on jars.
Tighten ring, then "WA-La". Vacuum seal. 1st time, every time.
PS: If ya have a lot of lids, use two (2) heating pads. One on top of the other. Like a Lid sandwich.
COOL tip!!!! TY!!!!!
Hello 775, I just order me some powder milk and getting ready to put them in mason jars:) I was wondering do you put the ring band back on? when put in storage? thanks again
how long does it last in there
I just heat 1/2 cup of water and add the dried milk and dissolve then add the rest of the water to make the desired amount 👍🏻😁
TY for sharing ! and TY for watching !
I'm wondering why you vacuum sealed dry milk. I have used nonfat dry milk for 48 yrs. I keep a 4 lb box in the pantry. I use from the original box for months & months...no problem. So I was surprised to see someone vacuum sealing it.
Pat Wagner so it will last a very long time and nothing can get into it if it’s in glass. It will last at least 20 yrs. I’ve had some 10 yrs and it was still good.
Big Red Barn Homestead Do you have to put it in freezer before putting it in the jars?
Great Video. Could you post the url for LDS? Thanks so much!
usually you can put a piece of paper or other barrier over the top of the product so it doesnt go into the food saver

Would a coffee filter work??
R Needham Yes they work well. You can buy the small round percolator coffee filters that work great in wide mouth mason jars. I just sealed up a bunch of sugar yesterday with zero issues, every jar sealed tightly.
TY for the tip!
@@rneedham667 Yes of course
Or cupcake papers
Can you not use the O2 absorbers for the dried milk?
Regular non-instant powdered milk is the way to go. Instant is inferior, EXCEPT for it's ability to re-hydrate more quickly.
Reg. can be had in bulk (55 lbs) for about $160 delivered to your door. I just picked up a few cases of half gallon jars to store it in.
I have had good luck dry canning instead of vac. sealing, just don't let your temps get to high.
I dry packed vacuumed sealed powdered milk and 6 months later the milk turned yellow.
Help? please and thank you!
Fredericka Graves did you ever find out why
Why???
Moisture or bacteria got in it is my understanding.
I have a question how do you prepare dry milk? Do you put cold water in a cup and mix it? I appreciate the help. Thanks!
I would read the direction too, also you can contact the manufacturer
Why did you cut the bag instead of leaving the zipper slightly open? When you go to use it (especially if we’re in an emergency situation) you can’t reseal it using the zipper when the bag is cut.
Just wondering why you chose to cut it instead.
Also, I have seen people use paper bags for sealing set powders. Have you done that or found problems with doing that?
Hi, old habit i guess, good idea, TY!
Question: Do you freeze the powdered milk prior to vacuum sealing them in jars? Thank you.
Hi, no i do not. we just use the vacuum sealer. i don't think it is a good idea to freeze the milk as you will be adding moisture when it warms up in the package, TY!
@@technician775 ..... Thank you for taking the time to respond. Many people feel you are one of the best source for this type of information and I so appreciate your assistance.
@@susieq9186 Thank you for the very kind words...hope you have a great day! TY!!!
@@susieq9186 Hi, thank you for the kind words, hours and hours of research and hands on...trial and error.....TY for watching!
How do you know when to stop the vacuum sealer? My lids come off when I take the vacuum lid off, which I have to wrangle off. Then the seal in the vacuum lids comes out.
Hi, usually the vacuum sealer will have a bar or a gauge, i usually listen to the sound. I do suggest using oxygen absorbers (100cc) to vacuum seal the mason jars. Sometimes the lid sealing attachment can be difficult. Ensure the lip of the jar and the rubber gasket under the lid is clean, i use a moist towel to clean both. hope this helps, Steve
Just wondering if you have done a lot of milk before. I tried doing a couple of jars and after a couple a days the seals let loose. Found milk powder all over the seal. So now I use mylar bags
Have you ever tried Shelf Reliance and/or Thrive Instant milk? I am not advertising for them, I am just saying that you can make whip cream with their milk and it makes the most amazing yogurt. However, they have two different kinds of milks...the one I just describe, which is also drinking milk...and then then have a milk meant for baking. Their milk is very expensive though; but I like it so much better than the stuff you buy in the store...and I will actually drink a plain glass of the Thrive milk without being grossed out - the dry milk in the store tastes funny to me. Anyway, if you or anyone knows of a brand of milk that can match the Thrive milk for less money, then please let me know. Thanks. :)
angela14962002 I just started ordering thrive!! love it!
Kendra Giles Doesn't it taste great?!?! I ❤️it!!! I ran out, so it's time to reorder more! 😊
I love my food saver for this type of dry storage. I didn't even think of doing this with my powered milk! Thanks for that idea! I was wondering though how long the powered milk would last in these jars?
I spent eight on the Best Choice powder milk 4 pound box and they had carnation packets for a few dollars. And I think my last box of Mix and Drink milk was almost ten. Also you can make shelf stable milk(whole or other) just don't scorch it.
Thank you
you are welcome!
What is your read recipe? I’d love to have it! Love your channel, I have learned so much from you! Thank you.❤️
Hi, what recipe??
Looks like it was "bread" b was missing....read recipe
Thanks again for an informative video. I really appreciate all the information you provide.
"UP PRICE DATE"; 7/13/13....$14 TO 15 DOLLARS A BOX THAT YOU HAVE.
Which LDS store do you purchase from? I see that the on-line store doesn't carry evaporated milk.
Powdered not evaporated
i would love your bread recipe could you do a video?
Ahh great video, keep up the good work.
What is that attachment you’re using?
Hi, it is a jar sealer for mason jars. I highly recommend the oxygen absorbers, it will do a better job, TY for watching !
Hello everone i want to start my food storage, but where is the best store or website for the best prices on mason jars? thank you
+Juan Cortes Walmart has them, no shipping fees.
Thank you Sr
I buy some in Thrifty stores for 25 cent each, plus I downloading an app which is offerup I bought 3 boxes new that brings 12 for $8 dollars for the 3 boxes. Also classic spaghetti sauce jar from the supermarket are made in mason jar you can use them too.
Hope u can find some.
Great video!
Can you store in vacuum bags?
Use high quality mylar bags is my suggestion, TY!
how do u know when to stop the sealer
SHOTGUNJIM1 I believe it stops itself.
whats the lds site please
You do not.have to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) to purchase food storage from them. They have physical locations in many states or you can purchase online at providentliving.org
what is LDS?
The mormons...latter day saints
you don't use a oxygen asorber
patricia haddix Hi, with a vacuum sealer, it does the same thing, removes most of the oxygen... thanks !
technician775 from what I understand, the vacuum sealer will take the oxygen level down to 2%. but if you add an oxygen absorber, it will reduce the oxygen to 0.1%. longer shelf life.
@@technician775 do you steralize your jars before adding the dry milk?
