    On the staying subsonic part of shooting and ballistics. You want to avoid the transition zone from supersonic to subsonic, because when you get to that zone the bullet wont be as accurate anymore. So you want to stay way above the subsonic velocity, or just below it from the start. That way you will ensure accuracy.
    Greetings,
    Jeff

      You forgot to mention that it won’t affect higher grain projectiles as much a 22lr 40 grain shoots super flat at 1200 fps I have no doubt a 40 grain slug going around that would have a flatter more accurate trajectory than a 22lr considering slugs can have a higher bc.

    I have a ton of respect for you and your knowledge about shooting. And yes I am jelly and would love to have a FX Impact Mk3 setup like that and the compressor and tanks to make it all work. But the price point to get to the same performance of a 22 LR is a bit of a stretch for most folks.

    • @L.V-Rider
      @L.V-Rider 2 года назад

      "But the price point to get to the same performance of a 22 LR is a bit of a stretch for most folks." With this I agree 100%. I like my airguns for low power shooting but it does not make sense at all to pay so much for an airgun to get more power. A very accurate CZ .22 LR at a fraction of the cost makes much more sense.

    This was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much to be analyzed here as it pertains to medium to large game with airguns. There are some ammo manufacturers out there that don't want to hear this, but a Hollow Point may not be the best option when hunting big game with an airgun. After putting down 14 White Tail Deer in the last few years, there is one thing I have learned with such certainty. 2 holes are better than one and you DO NOT want to dump energy into such a large animal since that energy is so insignificant from an airgun when you compare it to a firearm (as you proved with that .308). Hope you and I can chase some Deer here in Michigan or Springbok in South Africa with big bore airguns someday! Great work Matt!

    Awesome video. I love to see what these things can do. I’ve got a pretty big block of FBI ballistic gel in cue, just need to pull the trigger on it, pun intended. Yeah. After I saw some guy drop a bull elk with either a .25 or .30 air rifle that sold me. Just to clarify, I was sold on what it did, it’s potential, I’d never try to take an elk with such a small caliber, but I would try to take a deer or a hog with one.

    I love your videos and effort put into them. I learned a great deal about air rifles through this channel. I would like to add that energy dispersion is very different for different material densities. I believe ballistic gel is more closely matched to human and animal density and viscosity. Any tests into other mediums such as wood, clay, water jugs etc., would give a very vague or even a very misleading view of how a projectile would perform.

      The crosman 1377 and 1322's (legal here in Canada) are rated for 460fps @ 10 pumps but put out way more than 4.2fpe (legal limit) when paired with heavy pellets or slugs (although much less penetration at range). Contrary to popular belief they perform well at 10-20 yards with slugs.
      They are also very easily upgraded, although the cost adds up, you can turn a $50 pumper into a reliable, dependable survival tool for small game.

    • @randomidiot8142

      Bob Sterne made a 9mm CO2 pellet pistol. It's hilarious but there's no caliber limit. Get a 12 gauge airgun with a rifled barrel and shoot round balls, still legal under 500 fps.

    So you might not want to shoot it with a high power rifle , but what we call "Duct Seal Putty" in the US might be a longer lasting option better than clay . It never drys out ,especially if kept in a plastic shopping bag . Shoot some holes in the bag ,and put it in a new one. My 8lb block from my old silent pellet trap is still working great and I got the Duct seal in 1996 . Well thanks for a great video from the S.W. US .

I will need to stand up to dust and elements etc (within reason of course)...thats a lot to ask I know but what would you choose if you had to choose just one? thanks and best wishes!

    To bad the 40 grain Javelins are to long to fit my K1. Well 34 is really enough for get maximum power out of that gun.The javelin slogan is the same in our local dialect here in Överkalix which basically is really old Swedish. Rekk lenger, raak harder. :-) We don't have any Ystervarks up here by the Arctic Circle but translated it would be Jernn-gräis so I probably won't be fluent in Afrikaans even through a few words are similar.😁.

    I would love to see an in depth correlation between temporary wound channel and stopping power. Obviously, blood loss through circulatory system, skeletal system and central nervous system damage with (headshots) are easiest to understand with shots that directly cause damage. But how much damage occurs as a result of the temporary wound cavity? I figure if ammo doesn't fully penetrate game, it fully transfers its energy to the game through simple physics. But how can this be proven?
