Henry you absolutely *nailed* the color for these Dark Angels! Dark Angels are so easy to either make really dark and bland, or too bright and Salamanders looking. These are just right.
Magnificent work, I’m constantly amazed at the incredible results you get from a relatively quick process 👏 I’m glad you’re enjoying Kill Team too, the new edition feels a lot tighter and more streamlined than the previous edition.
Amazing colour scheme and job Henry, I love darker greens on my DAs as well. It's the right balance of dark and light and it doesn't look neon like the standard caliban/warpstone/moot Green colour scheme of GWs.
This looks amazing, what colour did you use for the gold/bronze? I was thinking about painting some raptor marines and pictured that exact bronze in my mind but couldn't find it till now. Would love to see your take on some raptor marines. Think they are suppose to be a distant sub chapter of the dark angels.
Like you, this colour scheme is very close to my heart - my first White Dwarf was 193, when 'Angels of Death' was first released. Bias aside, I think this is one of your best paintjobs; the green looks so rich. I found it a little puzzling that you painted the red markings after the wash, but the end result looks fine. Perhaps this technique could be applied to Ravenwing too - if you found the right contrast mix for a dark blue/grey the black oil could give a really nice gradient. Inspiring stuff.
Thank you for this wonderful painting tutorial. I was shocked to see thrid company Dark Angels, because that is what is on my painting desk now. I am happy to see you paint them in your own version of them. I am doing the same. Love how you did the power sword. I am going to try painting the power swords that way. Thank you again.
The first legion! The best legion! The green knights that don't share. They look awesome. Some great and simple conversions here to make them unique and give em that extra Dark Angel flair. Went with Guardians of the Covenant for mine as I already have a Dark Angels army and wanted to do something different without getting away from the knight aesthetic.
Perfect timing as I am starting my first army in the new year having just received a bunch of DA stuff for Christmas. These guys look awesome, I just need to figure out how I get something similar without an airbrush.
wonderfull colour scheme with the more darker DARK Angel. Absolutely stunning. I just would have loved to know what kind of gold you've used. because you only said that you did a purple over the gold. Maybe I've missed the name of the gold ... would love to know that, thanks again
great paint job as always! i got an airbrush for christmas so watching your expertise is great inspiration. now that the black templars army project is coming to a close, are you and andy going to be starting a new one? maybe something heresy or maybe the upcoming emperors children refresh? :D
I'm sure others have mentioned it before but Makeup Sponges are amazing for cleaning up the oil recess shading, it's really a whole world better than cotton
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I don' really like the eavy metal comic style with extreme edge highlights and I dont fully enjoy the extrem grim dark style. This is how I want my Angels to look like. Also I enjoy the very present black of the armor, letting some of the old pre-fallen scheme shine through.
I really liked the white chest decal you had on one of the operatives, I think doing that but specifically with the imperial guard aquilla could work very well for one of the more "tacticool" groups of space marines.
The pondering stage is where I spent the majority of the time... Partially because I tend to overthink things and partially because I like that fase too.
Space Marines aren't my thing at all, but I love watching your painting tutorials for inspiration and ideas, no matter what models you happen to be working on. Keep doing what you enjoy! (I know no-one asked, but: Lizardmen. Lizardmen are my thing. Andy's tutorial on that warband from a few years ago helped me a ton when I started re-painting my childhood army after returning to the hobby.)
I have found using the Tamiya XF-2 thinner with Scale75 paints works much better than using a standard airbrush thinner. I imagine it's something to do with Scale's gel medium, but it comes out beautifully. The Tamiya thinner will turn just about every other acrylic paint I've tried to use with it into goop, though.
@@Midean9 I found that too, some S75 it was fine with, others it turned to porridge. In the end the flow aid + thinner was the best all rounder for me. But airbrushing S75 is always a last resort for me!!!
I struggle with zenithals - not with doing them (I can spray white ink on my models easily enough) but when I'm done painting I can never seem to see any difference between models with just a black prime. Is using contrast the key here?
I would like to know why are you leaving the minis over night after the oil wash? Isnt it possible to remove the excess like 1h after applying? Great vid btw! :)
@@Zwenguard absolutely possible, and for some schemes I would do that. I left these overnight because it was a natural last job to do in the session. And leaving them longer wasn't a negative.
They look AMAZING! Reminds me of when I started with Warhammer, the good old Dark Vengeance. These tiny guys looked amazing in my head (even if not in reality haha) Do you recommend any side cutters in particular?
I couldn't work out the sprue. It also had a plasma pistol and a left arm holding a bolt rifle. Very small separate character sprue. So it must be one of the captains?
Those are gorgeous Dark Angels. You really caught the feel of the old green that is no so hard to recapture.
+1 for the side cutters recommendation. Very nice to work with! They put less stress on especially fragile bits you are cutting out of the sprue.
What was the brand I didn’t catch it in the video?
Those are red grass games single side blade cutters.
@@j27b I really like the DSPIAE 3.0 ones. If you want a deep dive Barbatos Rex has a great video where he compares many different brands.
A great capstone for a fantastic year of art, really looking forward to what you have in store for us in 2025!

I really enjoyed the addition of the purple. I hadn't thought to use the purple with silver. They look awesome Henry!
Instead of cutter, i warmly suggest Tamiya "mini brass saw set", they're an essential upgrade for precision cut.

its a mix of S75 Decayed Metal and Dwarven Gold
And I've done a Raptors video :)
As a massive fan of the Angels of Death book since it first came out, I think these look great Henry! Well done 😀
I was waiting this for years......Amazing. You guys are the best

in hindsight i could absolutely have done the red before the wash.

It works well with polyurethane based primers as well like vallejos. Most thinners contain water which reacts with polyurethane.

Great work, as usual. Is there an advantage to using the AK oil paints in “normal” colors (eg black) over artist oils?
I don't think so

How high is the pressure for the airbrush for these fine works?
I have my compressor set to 25psi. Our infinity has great trigger pressure sensitivity, so I'm usually spraying around 20

For me, it's both the Tamiya side cutters and God Hand Cutters, both have different purposes, and are fine at cutting.
When thinning Citadel paint, what thinner do you use?
@@andersolsson1659 for the airbrush I use either life colour thinner or Vallejo thinner. On the wet pallete I just use water.

Akira Style, "Clown Gang," if the rebel guard Kill Team happens to come across your desk, or a new version of it...

Why do so many mini painters use tamiya flat white for zenithal?
