In Canada, with our universal healthcare system, asymptomatic adults receive annual FIT screening. If a positive result occurs, colonoscopies can be scheduled in as little as two weeks. We advise against using colonoscopies for routine screening. Evidence suggests that the potential risk of death from the procedure is nearly equal to the detection of cancer in asymptomatic individuals, making it a wash. In the USA, colonoscopies are a significant industry $$$$, benefiting medical professionals in all capacities.

This time a year ago I was going for tests for what turned out to be bowel cancer. My surgery was 8 weeks to the day from my initial meeting with my doctor... it was FAST!!!
My main symptoms were constipation and extreme fatigue, but at 43 (and a vegetarian) bowel cancer didn't even cross my mind. I couldn't understand why I was training SO hard and still not getting fitter. I put the dark circles under my eyes and the tiredness down to a busy lifestyle.
My cancer was in my ascending colon, so the blood in my stool wasn't apparent to the eye, and it was a shock when my QFiT result came back at over 400.

Sadly, in Canada, the trend is towards indifferent, dismissive doctors. While I appreciate that they are definitely over burdened, I feel like they should not go into the profession if they can’t be caring and empathic. I’ve had 5, yes FIVE family members who were diagnosed with colon cancer. My father passed at 64 years old, my sister dx’d at 51 (still alive 11 yrs later), my uncle who passed at 77, my aunt who was diagnosed at 80, and it is now in her brain, and a cousin with stage four diagnosed at 53 years old. I’ve been having significant health issues for the last 3 1/2 years, but was previously in stellar health. Never had an unhealthy BMI, have eaten healthier than anyone I know, exercised well & regularly, don’t smoke, rarely drank before I got sick. Had a cholecystectomy in September 2022. Sadly, my abdominal pain has come back with a vengeance, and I am losing weight again. Can’t get a doctor to take me seriously here. Thankfully, the surgeon that did my cholecystectomy is doing a colonoscopy for me this month. I wish we had more doctors like you. 🙏

14,000 cases of cervical cancer may not seem like a lot. But it’s enough that it should open people’s eyes. I wouldn’t be surprised if the actual number is higher than that. The US had an exponential number of citizens that don’t have a way to pay for doctor’s visits so they don’t get checked. I wing get into my thoughts on that right now as I’m not sure this is the time or place for it. But I think those numbers are higher. I have a family history of cervical cancer. So when my OB asked me if I wanted to get rid of it I emphatically said yes. And I’m glad I did. There weren’t any signs of it in pathology.

My mother had chronic health issues but on top of those was waiting for results of a biopsy on a tumor of some sort when she passed away (not sure specifics or results because we weren't close at that time and because of HIPAA, even after death, I'm not able to request any of her test results). My dad is about 4 years into a battle of stage 4 cancer (so proud of him). I am still paying it off two years later. I had Aetna (PPO) with a low deductible ($1500). They still refused. I pay thousands of dollars a year and MY insurance is definitely NOT paying to test for blood cancer. Came back negative but I wasn’t taking any changes by not testing. All due to my Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease (autoimmune) wreaking havoc in my body. Got on to Humira (fought insurance tooth and nail to get on to Humira) and it normalized my ‘blood cancer textbook numbers.’

My theory on Kate’s cancer is: endometrial cancer with a false negative biopsy prior to hysterectomy, perhaps a biopsy that showed endometrial hyperplasia with atypia. Perhaps the surgical specimen was found to have cancer after the surgery, but the surgery wasn’t done by a gynecologic oncologist, and so she is at higher risk of recurrence, and that’s why she needs prophylactic chemotherapy now. Anyway, that’s just my guess. And if she did have an endometrial biopsy, I hope she had better pain control than what I did even after I specifically asked - I only got ibuprofen.

If she had ovarian cancer, for example, they'd likely remove it altogether and then biopsy it after. Then she'd have adjuvant chemotherapy because even one remaining cancer cell can metastasize elsewhere. This was how my ovarian cancer was treated. Two years cancer free!

    • @RanDom-Interloper
      @RanDom-Interloper 2 месяца назад +2

That is not a fact and the researchers who perform studies if you check their background is often biased. The bottom line is that it's not conclusive as opposed to certain. Did the studies separate processed meat from unprocessed, nitrate concentrations especially in smoked meats are a known carcinogen. And many who criticize meat often really mean only red meat and not seafood. And there are plenty of vegetarians in India but there is no evidence that they have far less cancer than those populations that do eat meat. And there is evidence that sugar increases inflammation and processed meats are generally high in sugar or those who eat meat along with high amounts of carb are not separated in those studies. Until studies isolate other factors its still correlation not causation. If anything more people have become vegans and vegetarians to lose weight but its not conclusive whether the improvement in health is due to the plant diet or by becoming vegan/vegetarian people are simply eating less processed food high in toxic chemicals which attributes to better health. Some people have gluten or oxalate intolerance, these are exclusive to plant based diets. There are seniors who do well on a keto or carnivore diet but again, it may be because they too tend to eat less processed foods. Fasting is known to promote health and that is why carnivores in the wild life habitats don't get a meal one day a week. Why doesn't it apply to humans? Is it what you're eating or is it what you are not eating that promotes health, and does the studies clearly show this? Nothing is truly conclusive yet, but bias is rampant in the medical field and very few thoroughly check the details before shouting truth and the rest just believe.

Cancers like liver, ovarian, pancreas, are hard to pin point because the mayority of doctors when a patient look for diagnostics about their symtoms if it is one or tow, they will send the patient to their home with a recomendation to eat a well balance diet, fiber, and exercise. Even if your cbc doesn't or show minimal amounts of things on the test.
Hemorroids bleeding can mask blood in stool, diarreha, with allergic reaction to certain foods, constipation, for less fiber on your diet, reflux due to greasy food intake or irritants, smelly gass you eating too much garlic or raw greens, pelvic pain, you may have an uti infection or std.
I mean I don't want to sound like a grouchy person. But lets be honest, when I told the nurses because in a public clinic I have never seen a real doctor. Just nurses who are taking all the info then if you don't look like dieying they prescribe you meds for this and that.
And most of the times the meds will cause more problems then what is to help with the problem.
All you are mention is true, but if doctors know already that the cancers that show no symtoms until at the late stages, if the want us to prevent this types of cancers it is very dificult to caught it if some doctors will be more approcheable and listen to the patient symtoms.
In order for us to get an early detention of a cancer specifically those like ovarian, brain, pancreas, and liver, we should know that when the stomack is knocking with a symptom for more then 7 days or several weeks or the most a month, they should be treated as abnormal and not just a reflux or gas. Like ovarian, those symtoms starts when you have pelvic pain, pain with intercouse, or bloody periods. Etc. And we as women should ask the gynocologists for other test beside the paps if you have a family history of any type of cancer.
Cancer now is been heard over and over like a pandemic, cancer here and there a very fast grow that sometimes makes me wonder if the tests done to us are really handle correctly.
Like I said, I'm not here to judge doctors but because the bad experience I've had with some, you have to do your homework as a patient and look for information about to whatever diagnose they give you and question and check your records after you asked for them and ask quetions even if you understood what you read, ask questions about everything and the meds they will give you. If the doctor gets cranky because you ask questions, run and find other opinions.
You live with your body every day, learn about your body of how reacts with everything so when you see a doctor you know what is going on and why. With that imput the doctor will be able to work with you with the knowledge they have study and practice. That way they will diagnose not easy, but it will be a better chance to get to the cause of illment causing problem.
Doctors will always talk to you in medical terms that at the moment we will be confused, but if don't understand don't be afraid and ask? Doctors aren't Gods but they choose that field to save or at least to help with pain or certaint medical problems. But the best way to work together as a team medical/patient. Its to imform and get imformed.
I don't want to die if I can prevent a medical problem, but also I don't want to be a ginnypig to be given meds just to shut me off because some docts don't believe you are suffering.
Cancer changes the whole scenario in every family who is pledge by it. Once you have it its a pin on the butt because its a constant battle that for so many they lost the battle.
Princess Catherine of Wales now is keeping me thinking! My MLLS removal pathology results said its not cancerous. Same her doctors said to her on her surgery " no cancer" then viola her results now showed cancer. I felt her pain and uncertanty. I pray that its not the bad ones. No one deserve to have this cancer killers at this young age.
Hopefully next year my mamography comes out negative. My sister had 3 surgeries on her right breast 10 years ago, on her 30's for a cyst on stage 3 DCIS. Then in that period she had removed two cysts one small and one big on her uterus. 5 years with tamoxifen which I'm sure her bone density was affected by it causing her hip problems and not long ago a she had hip surgery. Her strogen level 0 that is causing her a lot discomfort. So yes, I can't say yet that I'm lucky. My grandmother diagnosed at 88years old breat cancer ( RIP), her only daughter cervical at 64, still alive, my aunt first born daughter cervical cancer at 47, but she passed due to covid at 50 years old.
My son 3 bouts of diverticulitis, last time I saw him was at the same office I'm treated for my MLLS excersion. Since we don't talk much I'm sure he got some...my God don't want to think is colorectal cancer or stomach. Due to his bad habits (drug usage in the past) now I understand why he got mad at me when I told him about my surgery. Sorry, my long comment. Big hug to all who are dealing with this monster. God be with you all!

Extremely rare in her demographic but anything is possible... More likely related to the reproductive system or possibly the colon.

I thought gall bladder as well or something to do with her stomach because she was also so severely sick when she was pregnant.

Higher vitamin D levels have been consistently associated with reduced risks of colorectal cancer (12) and, to a lesser extent, bladder cancer (13). Studies have consistently shown no association between vitamin D levels and risk of breast, lung, and several other, less common cancers (14-17)..
Using sunscreen to prevent skin cancer is now increasing our risk of other cancers

Speaking of cancer being too late by the time is diagnosed why can hospitals give people MRIs without symptoms to detect cancer before it’s too late PET scans, etc. even the healthy. I called this preventative care.

I think that both her and Charles should disclose their types of cancer so we might know better to look for and to get screened for. I understand they need privacy to heal, but they are public servants and they are doing their subjects a disservice by not just simply stating the kind of cancer. State the cancer and then ask for the space to heal. They could save the lives of their subjects and others around the world.

    SCC..Squamous cell carcinoma
    Of the anal rectal junction
I tested neg for HPV cervical
There needs to be screening available when colonoscopy is performed in the at risk age population. This is now a preventable cancer if you get the vaccine available up to age 45

Told my local doc that I had problems breathing. Got to the hospital and they put me on the machine and said I was fine!!! Diagnosed after a colonoscopy with iron deficiency anaemia and to mention it to my children. Polyps had been discovered too. Apparently, I hit the surgeon during the procedure, which I thought hilarious. Told him the anaestheologist had not done her job properly as I came to on the table. He soon put his ego back in his box. I'm 73 and take no s... from prince or pauper. Kilkenny in south east Ireland.
