    So history lesson time, Reason why the Volvo V8 engine Is special is that its a Yamaha built engine, same engine is in a Noble M600 sports car which does 0-100km in 3.1sec, so credit goes to the Japanese engineers for making a interesting 60degree V8 to suit the Volvo xc90 originally, see my channel to hear the sound these V8 make

    • @NickeyMouse

      Yamaha just built the engine, Volvo designed it. Also, THIS engine is made better by Polestar, so there's not much original left.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_B8444S_engine
      Motorsport
      A 5.0 L version was developed for use in Volvo S60s by Garry Rogers Motorsport in the V8 Supercars series between 2014 and 2016.[7] --This is a 5.0L not 4.4L like the original Volvo
      The 4.4 L V8 Volvo engine was built by Yamaha in Japan under Volvo design and specifications.
      Officials of all three companies[Ford, Volvo, Yamaha] involved insist that the Volvo V8 is not related to the SHO engine[which WAS built by Yamaha]

      @@BarefeetB its a flatplane v8, able to rev higher and doesnt have the huge counterweights of a usual crossplane v8 so its lighter per HP albeit slightly less torque. the sound is different because the cylinders fire at even intervals rather than odd.

    • @FrmerK20
      @FrmerK20 2 года назад +1

      @@BarefeetB define sound like a v8. its not what you are used to. Its a flatplane v8 but having a 60degree v angle its not an even firing flatplane. Not easy for everyone to know how engines work but its smart to do some research beforehand.

      I think all the complete cars were shipped to Volvo Polestar (Cyan Racing) in Sweden as per the contract where at least one is in the Volvo museum, while the engines always belonged to Volvo Polestar (Cyan) and not GRM.

    V8?

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo  5 лет назад +7

      Yes! Volvo Yamaha B8444S 4.4L 60-degree V8, stroked out to a 5.0L unit and developed for racing by Polestar. They chose to use a flatplane crankshaft -- the big-end bearings located two up and two down in a "flatplane", instead of the four big-ends staggered 90 degrees apart like a crossplane crankshaft.
