    The drawingt in variant works also nice in hanmi handachi (moving the uke from our base), and very well from ki no nagare attacks :)

      Especially against a shomen ate head thrust or punch that is meant!! The "exercise" is merely called "kuzushi" in Tomiki aikido and is practised as a suwari waza technique.... Shihonage or tenkai kote gaeshi, even done at speed is difficult to get on against somebody resisting as I experienced it in randori shiai... The only way to get it, is to get as low as possible under ukes center using the principle shown which is to direct it into the shoulder... Nothing new under the Sun... Obviously you guys have never experienced Tomiki aikido... but there you go, we are known as "heretics" ... Kuzushi as I see it and felt, is to get uke up onto his toes... Something rarely seen in the aikido practised in most "Traditional" dojos today... For those who don't know what "Kuzushi" means, is to totally unbalance... All I see is totally co operational which is basically kata... Its totally different when applied in real time against a committed attack against a totally resisting opponent or uke...

    If you do the 21 jo kata form you will eventually you this technique because you are training your hands to coordinate with your feet to cause kusuzi form

      21 jo kata?? i know the 31 and the 13. Do you mean one of the 20 jo suburi?

      @@nikosskeptikos6295 only saw 21 movements it is basic and makes hands faster and precise used by tension akido users

    In the lineage I train in, we frequently practice this from gyaku hanmi, hanmi handachi.

      I think this was meant more as an exercise than a "technique" per se - merely a way for people t explore connection without force perhaps?

      I think to make it practical you'd have to apply a bit of an elbow lock to "encourage" uke past lol

      Applying an element of hiji in something like this is often the back up I find if the partner compresses or is non compliant, hence why I refer to this kind of thing as a demonstration of principle as opposed to a practical applied technique

    My instructor did something VERY similar, except he dropped to one knee which literally slingshotted me around him. He also did it with Sanko lock as well. Very interesting to see, almost impossible to pull off though.

    Thee is MUCH more going on with that hand on the elbow than the instructor is mentioning, THATS what's causing a lot of the initial rotation of the partner's arm? yes?

      Not really, it's more to show how the biomechanics work, but the PRINCIPLE is def applicable. Cut that movement short and drop to one knee and it's deadly

      I say in the intro this isnt martial but the way this connects to someone is def useful, even on the ground.

      Yes; but you would need to understand the principle being explored here. Study that and you'll find where it applies. There is a similar principle in jiu jutsu of relaxing and allowing the opponent to do the work while you wait until he gives you opportunity. This is perhaps similar in that you 'go under' or 'inside' the opponent's movements and energy; it's victory by yielding and absorbing. Let the arrow break itself on the rock behind you. There is no need to break the arrow yourself.

    ont ne peu pas faire un shiho nage si ont reste face a son partenaire ,dans la logique un atémi que ce soit avec la main ou avec le pied viens de suite ,en plus votre placement est mauvais par rapport a votre partenaire et vous n'ètes pas sur son axe ,dsl sa ne fonctionne que avec des uke qui ce laisse faire et parte tout seul

      ..et c'est pourquoi ce nage Shiho est rarement vu, car il est très difficile à exécuter de manière cohérente. Cependant, il fonctionne et s'il est appliqué fortement, il ajoute presque un élément de hijishime au coude pendant le virage. Une application plus martiale serait de se mettre à genoux tout en appliquant la technique.

    This is easy Gyaku Hanmi and in essence this turns Aihanmi into Gyaku.

      I don't think the side of the grab is really what Tony was talking about here, it's more about the ability to shift ones weight into the feet to allow the line of force to transfer around the centreline.
