Originally issued as a single LP in 1960, Mountain Music of Kentucky was praised as "the greatest Kentucky record ever issued and one of the greatest records in the entire literature of American folk song" (San Francisco Chronicle 1960). This much expanded compilation features some of the outstanding traditional musicians of the twentieth century with two full hours of performances (60 minutes previously unreleased), new notes, and many photographs by John Cohen. "One of the greatest records in the entire literature of American folk song." - San Francisco Chronicle.

I believe I was born in the mountains in a previous life...something deep inside my mind draws me in everytime...amazing music
Roscoe just blisters this song. What an AMAZING talent!
Loved the singing and picking, Great playing!
I found this amazing song looking up banjo prodigy Wendy Holcombe
I think there's a couple of "ands" in there too. "Rain come in (and) sun come (and) dry me". Thanks for the words.
Roscoe's recordings are still available from Smithsonian Folkways, with original liner notes and in at least one case, more recent recollections from John Cohen. I think the notes include all the lyrics. John Cohen's films of Roscoe are available online, too.
Does anyone have these words written down? I can't understand the second verse.
Help.
@ArkRed1 i think its rain come in sun come dry me
Does the second verse go: Rain come in and there's some come to drown me, stand back pretty girls and don't come a nigh me, ? I've got all the verses but that one. Somebody hope me out if I don't have it right. Thanks.
This is great, where can i find the lyric?
Better than rap.....
First verse: Black-eyed Suzie setting in a corner,
she is a pretty girl 'pon my honor
Chorus: Hey little black-eyed Suzie
Hop up, little black-eyed Suzie
Second verse: Rain come and wet me, sun come and dry me
Stand back pretty girls don't come a'nigh me
Third verse: Poor little kitty puss, poor little feller,
Poor little kitty puss died in the cellar
Fourth verse: repeats second verse
