Absolutely! Every song written comes from the heart and soul of someone... she has the unique ability to be able to find the soul in the words of the song. Even more important she feels it and you feel it just by listening. That is the mark of the best musicians and writers.. I’ve been playing music since I was 11 and am 74 now and still playing, writing and listening. To say I am impressed is an understatement. I rarely have goose bumps and tears listening to music but I have both with Angelina most every time. Love A Million Miles and her book... I pray everyday for her and hope she stays on the path she’s on now and not follow some of our supposedly talented singers. I could and do listen to her everyday. She is so calming!!!

Simply by raising a mic to your mouth you have power, so much power!! A singer like Angelina doesn’t need filthy lyrics, a screaming voice, or Dirty dancing half dressed!!!!

Show me only one other artist who is singing 8 different music genres. She sings Jazz, Soul, Blues, Classic, Gospel, Pop, Country and EDM. She is now 15 years old!! I love this girl.

Angelina is still finding her true self, her true voice and of course the song that will define her for generations to come. With her Norwegian, Swedish, Iranian, and Japanese background she needs to tap deeper into something larger than the Anglo-American tradition - and I sense she is doing that as she matures and undergoes life-experiences that she will interpret as only she can.

Angelina participated in AGTC aware that she probably would not have won (for many reasons), but that this show would have given her a very high evidence and popularity, addressing an audience that up to that point did not know her absolutely.
The of her were furthermore exceptional and extremely personal, unique interpretations, a great business card for a 13 year old girl 🤗 ❤️
These three performances constitute three pieces of anthology. The latest of her exceptional recent performances. « I put a spell on you » was one of her childhood. Another unique performance when she was 9-10 years old: « Back to Black », black and white version. This time, she was simulating Ami Winehouse's performances, but as usual, in her own way. The peculiarity of this cover, she modified certain passages of the lyrics to make from this “fokkative” song a “trippative” song. These modifications was her work. So young, so brilliant, truly exceptional!
Hi, she has a few up beat songs, she picks what she wants to sing and arranges words and music she said once that she knows what the songs are about because she knows English very well she also knows 3 other languages she is very intelligent and a genius. The problem with all performers on AGT is the limited amount of time allowed on the stage. So when you have a song with “rhapsodies” the majority of the song can never be sung. 🌺

With the Golden Buzzer she moved right to the finals. The tee shirt she wore was a creation of her and her grandma and yes it is her face and merch you can buy! Heide and Angelina have maintained a friendship outside of AGT! Angelina finished around 6th. If you want to hear some different Try "I Have Nothing" "The Show Must Go On" and "Born to Die. Of course there are probably another 130 videos out there. I believe she also has 5 originals and 2 songs she was asked to sing on.

Thanks a lot, of course, for your thoughtful reaction and comments. As usual, a helpful discussion. Others have referenced her performances of different styles and genres. Nonetheless, these performances were wonderful and I have enjoyed them numerous times. I think having a graphic of her face from when she was on NGT was not only inspiring to her at the time, but for any young woman who sees what a significant amount of effort can achieve.
For Angelina belting out please check out, "The Show Must Go On", "It's a Man's World" or "I Have Nothing". Angelina sings EDM on "Above the Water".

"Loving you" is a blues song that rocks! Also "I'm No Good."
How about a disco song, "I will survive"? There are plenty to choose from, if he looks for another style or genre from Angelina. She just cannot be pinned down to one genre, but of course she favors the more jazzy and bluesy style. That seems to be in her blood.

Watch her original, Seventh Heaven, for something very different. It’s upbeat jazz with an infectious beat, and it shows that Angelina is one of the best (in my opinion, best) jazz singers today. Or watch her at 11 giving the crowd gospel-like vibes with “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”. Or either of her versions of Feelin Good show a completely different genre.
Regarding your comments on Bohemian Rhapsody-the reason you got goosebumps is that Angelina re-defined the song into a ballad that expressed the sorrow and melancholy of a desperate person. The upbeat chorus you wanted to hear wouldn’t fit there, and also as important, the time limits on AGT performances wouldn’t allow it. I think both Bohemian Rhapsody and Yellow Brick Road show Angelina letting go with full belting that gave you those goosebumps. Im not sure what you’re looking for, but Angelina is not the singer who gives us extremes to show off her voice. I think her choice of those two songs and her arrangements and interpretations were two of the best vocal performances I’ve ever seen.

Great reaction. Your selection of the AGT versions was perfect... often other reactors miss the judges’ comments in their entirety (it’s enjoyable to relive those moments).
As to the “sameness” of Angelina’s music... your comment is a fair one, but based pretty much on only what you’ve heard. Her “wheelhouse” is definitely classic jazz, but you will understand what we mean when you hear her do country/pop (Miley Cyrus cover of “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart), or EDM (Electronic Dance Music - “Above The Water”), and many others.
I hope you stick around to react to more of her videos. It will be a long but enjoyable journey.
I want to finish by complimenting you on your format. Your process is long and laborious, but your thorough reactions using multiple songs are really enjoyable to watch.
Do a few “quickies” and your understanding of Angelina’s breadth of talent will widen.

To show another, very different side of AJ, I recommend "I am still holding out for you", which she recorded at the age of ten. The video is leaked by a fan. It's incredible, however controversial, because AJ and her team does not seem to want it published.

The golden buzzer sends the contestant to the live finals without having to do further sing offs. The thing is in these contests you are limited to a couple of minutes so you have to cut down the song.
The Golden Buzzer means you go will go straight to Hollywood for the semi-finals in AGT. She is so talented & pretty sure she knows it! But well done to her!!
A few things. According to other fans, her family has resisted the Simon Cowell machine. Think about the selection of this song, it's meaning and why the tee-shirt. She is definitely going her own path. Next she has had a hand in all her arrangements since NGT. There is a video of her thinking through Summertime with musicians at eight. At nine she has a jam session with musicians reworking Screamin Jay Hawkins wonderful and complex Portrait of a Man as Portrait of a Child. Very clearly she is an equal partner in that. Finally, as to children and emotions. Youngsters are incredibly empathic, picking up on things around them. AJ is clearly that. She listens to things over and over, feels the emotion and channels it through her own experiences. Heartache is heartache, regardless the source. This young lady is the epitome of multicultural and has seen a lot. Remember the shoeless little girl? Remember her charity work? Remember her singing at Nobel Peace Prize concert? There is a story (perhaps apocryphal) about why she chose Gloomy Sunday. About a sleepless night and her mom being worried. I tend to believe it. Set aside the musical talent, this girl is a remarkable human being.

I think from what I remember reading elsewhere that the Yellow Brick Road song was chosen for her by AGT. So that would make a nonsense of this line of thought. But I am open to being corrected by somebody who knows the truth and not by somebody who just thinks they know the truth.
@@HistoryBuff it is definitely quite poignant to observe Simon's face as she sings the line before "this boy's too young to be singing the blues", which is "I didn't sign up with you". Look at his eyes narrowing just for a split second. I bet you he would've killed to sign her up, haha!

Great reaction and it occurred to me when listening to "Someone You Loved" that a triple reaction video of this with Courtney Hadwin's version and Lewis Capaldi's original would be interesting and lead to some lively discussion in the comments section about the approach the two girls take.
Lewis Capaldi is from Scotland and Scots generally have a difficult accent to crack :)
The song the three of them did was not part of the completion. It was to show off talent. Angelina had already lost when she sang this. Each artist also has a recording of this, where they are featured.
Thank you for insightful, in depth analysis. In answer to your question " is she old enuff to know what she's singing"? the answer is a resounding " yes!" But at a visceral level that many other performers don't reach---California Dreaming, Stay, Autumn Leaves,. Born to Die, Back to Black to name a few. She doesn't so much sing a song as channel the composer's state when writing the song.
Yes, I agree with you, sometimes those old jazz/blues songs do have very dark lyrics: too much for a 7-8 years old. But... when the judge asked Angelina what 'Gloomy Sunday' was about, Angelina responded with 'about a bad Sunday'. When she wanted to record 'Back to Black' when she was 10 her mother was not ok with that, because of the young age of her daughter : Angelina did change the lyrics, her version is almost a sad love song, and than it was recorded. And although I am a complete outsider it feels good that there is also good care about the songs she choose to sing: first looking what the song is about and no hesitation to change it so it fits Angelina. The special fact in this is to me that Angelina most of the time writes the new lyrics her self, as she does with most of the musical arrangements. And about the music she sings/write: Angelina has told in an interview this 'When there had not been Billie Holiday in the past there was no singer Angelina Jordan today'. So my guess is that she will remain the very gifted jazz/blues singer in the future as she is today. But... never say 'never', time will tell.

Angelina has some very smart people looking out for her. In my opinion AGT already knew she would not sign with them if she won.
If one actually listens to the words of the song - It is a good bye song - she is saying good bye to Simon’s offer and therefore there was
no possibility of her winning. She used the show for a million dollars worth of exposure to the world she would direct her own career.
I believe she came in 5th (which is unbelievable) Who knows how the voting was done and who the voters were.

Angelina sings Song For A by modern classical composer Nico Cartosio which can be described as musical poetry. The lyrics come from a poem by Robert Burns. The song was written specifically for Angelina as part of the mostly instrumentals album Melting (8 instrumentals plus Song For A). Angelina is a jazz singer who can sing every genre and make it her own. If you stick around you will not be disappointed.

@@HistoryBuff She has sung Dolly Parton, Amy Winehouse, Bobby Hatfield, Elvis, Sinatra (Frank & Nancy), Chris Isaac...possibly not Mick Jagger yet. All in her own style. I don't anticipate her switching styles anytime soon. She seems most comfty with Blues/Jazz. Although Bobby Vinton's Mr. Lonely is far from her style. BTW, James Brown's style is Soul, not jazz, blues nor pop/rock.

You're right, all songs she did in AGT seems kind of same style. I guess this was to be a little 'mainstream', but what do I know..
She's done a lot of different styles, for rock, The show must go on, hymn, How great thou art, classical, A song for A, an Amy Winehouse cover of Valerie, even EDM, Above the water, The list goes on and on.
Her latest own written song is a happy upbeat jazzsong, 7th Heaven.

This is my opinion about the experience Angelina Jordan had at America's got talent. After her first two auditions, I believe AGT understood that Angelina could easily come out on top if she had performed the 3rd attempt without the other two contestants. By Having all 3 contestants perform at the same time AGT knew
She chose Yellow brick Road for the line "I didn't sign up for you". Simon appeared to miss the irony.

I definitely understand your ''concern'' for Angelina's age & subjects she may treat in her songs but are we ever concerned with adults signing about subjects they have never lived through when they do a cover or when they sign a song written by others? No, we simply say that they made it their own, as Angelina does.
The third song she sang was designed to draw your attention from her talent. Simon failed to sign her and it was her final performance. The visual artist, although amazing, broke the spell. You reacted just as expected. Simon got his revenge. I like your vids of Angelina. .

It's my (perhaps questionable) understanding that contestants on AGT are limited to about 2 minutes or so for each round. So, you won't hear full versions of songs. Exception in the case of performances such as Angelina's and the other two performers' showcase performance (with the sand art). AGT Champions additionally is a special case, in that participation was by invited winners (and perhaps placers) in various countries' and years' regular contests. For Bohemian Rhapsody you may notice all of Angelina's family (except her father?) in the front row behind the judges.
How about this one? "Above the water." Completely the opposite of what you'd expect from AJ, yet she hits it out of the park. A must watch.

- Continued_ Angelina Jordan's ability to put emotion into her voice and into the air needed to be redirected. The idea was very simple and genius, The sand ladies picture would be behind both Angelina Jordan while she was singing and the small violinist playing no matter how hard or how well Angelina or the violinist did their work everything that they did was seen in the painting and the credit was then attached to the lady doing the sun painting. I noticed when you were Reacting to the performance you also did the same thing. The emotion from Angelina's singing and the violinist was then captivated by the drawing As you were all of that emotion seemed to come out of the drawing. While this was a national event it did exactly what it was designed to do.

When Angelina got the golden buzzer it means she skips straight to the finals. Angelina didn’t win, but if they let her rip the arse out of a couple more songs in different genres she might have unstoppable.
Why can’t t hey have AGT that’s just singing? Or one category be just instruments? And another category about weird/ circus like talents? If it’s just singing, Angelina would’ve won!
I totally agree. My parents watch it and I had the same question. How do you compare the 2? I've come to the conclusion that it's 50% talent and 50% the background story that makes people connect emotionally with the artist

Do a little research. Angelina has covered oodles of songs in a wide variety of jazz and other genres. When she was younger, there are videos of her doing James Brown, It's a man's world" "something's |Gotta Hold on Me," Whitney Houston, Shirley Bassey etc. She has preferences, but she's far from stuck in in a single style. She always kills ballads, though, so maybe those get recommended more. I dunno. :)

Yes, she is barefoot in all 3 performances. It's hard to see on Yellow Brick Road and Someone You Loved because of the long pants, but if you look closely you'll see she really is barefoot. She would never break that promise she made to that little girl. If you want to hear a different style, try The Show Must Go On (Queen) and I'd Rather Go Blind (Etta James). Also I'm Feeling Good. What is wrong with having a distinctive style? But, if you think she is not versatile you have not really dipped into her repertoire which is over 170 strong. She is gong to make anything she does jazzy. I suggest "Feeling Good"-- the one with the full band inside (she is in white dress), and look at her latest,
Suspiciaous Minds," (By the way I'm sure AGT chose the "Someone You Love," due to the other contestants performing with her).
There is absolutely nothing wrong at all having a distinct style. In fact, as I've said, I would consider her a living authority in the jazz style, even from an incredibly young age. But my point is counter to those who say she is the most versatile, woman with 100000 voices, etc. From what I've seen, she has 1 very amazing and impressive voice. She takes many songs from all different genres and brings them into her arena, not the other way round.
