- Plasma Cutter Drag Tip vs Standoff Guide what plasma torches can you fit a plasma cutter standoff guide to without modifying your torch .My PT 31 plasma torch doesn't give you the option to fit a hf plasma torch standoff guide so the easiest way if you want to use a plasma cutter standoff tip is to simply chance out your plasma torch to a AG 60 torch its very quick and easy to do check out my video to see how.

Thanks Pete! Just what I needed to know.
Glad to help
Take your Tip off and get you a 3” long 5/16 bolt 2 washers and nut or metric equivalent. Put it through the Ceramic tip with a washer on each side tighten the nut up do not tighten too tight as to break the tip. Mark your tip where you need the groove on it. Chuck it up in a drill press. Turn it on and use a small flat tip screwdriver and put your groove where you need it.
Love your videos by the way.
sounds like a good idea cheers
Perfect... thanks for the tips.
thanks
Thank you sir do you have a blessed day
thanks
Thx Pete. Just to get this straight. Can I drag a pilot arc torch tip directly on the metal workpiece as I would with a non pilot machine torch tip.? I seem to recall reading that if you drag a pilot arc torch tip ( connected to a pilot arc plasma cutter) directly on to the workpiece the tip will melt almost immediately. I cant figure out why that should happen
Thanks Pete!
cool
excellent video...have pt and answer my questions quick...thanks
Glad it helped
the hypertherms we have at work has a castleated drag cup. looks like a rook from a chess board. it allows the sparks discharge easily and if you place a bit of metal as a guide, you subtract 3/16 from where you want to cut and you end up cutting just where you wanted.
Thanks for the info Bob cheers.
hey pete i made up a small arm tigged to a hose clip with a small bearing on it clp it around the ceramic then you can wheelbarrow it to the line ahead of the cut
Very cool
Sir . Can that plasma cut concrete?
Hi Pete I love your videos/ do something with your Mustach ,.
might grow a beard
Hi Pete I am here in the Philippines, I appreciate the way you share knowledge for everyday people, subscribed... I am going to follow your advice and get a 2nd 60A torch head for my cut40, my current head has an external switch zip-tied to the torch head... our online shopping platform here, Lazada, has a torch with a thumb actuated micro switch and another with a regular trigger built into the torch head... is one better than the other and will I be able to swap these out or do I need to get a matching cables...
Hi rob ,thanks for watching .You should be fine with that they both work much the same.
cheers from new zealand
Thank you for your information which plasma cutter machine do you use Brand and model this thermal dynamics has just got ridiculous and prices to maintain I’m just Backyard welder I don’t need some fancy machine I would appreciate your input thank you again
Hi i just use a cheap cut 40 : amzn.to/2LQ3vr8
Don't need the expenses of running a branded machine.
cheers pete
Hi Pete I bought some pt31 stand off guides on ebay but they are a roller or wheel version they work pretty good they were under £10 from a Belgium company but I think they are from China originally cheers from the 🇬🇧
Good to know!
I’m at Nashville Tennessee I have a thermal dynamic 42 and I was wondering can I put those tart sheds on my machine because I’m like you I’m hunting a more affordable combustibles I really enjoyed your video it was very informational I am subscribing thank you
Hi ron ,your thermal dynamic wont run on the cheaper plasma torches or consumables .I think They keep it all in house to inflate the consumable price .
cheers pete
I’ve got the new Cutmaster 40. And yes, consumables are more expensive, but if you’re doing everything properly, they last much longer than the cheap Chinese consumables. A major factor is your air. You need enough pressure, and enough CFM. If not, the consumables will quickly go bad. This is a problem a lot of people have when they ask me why their consumables don’t last long.
If you really want to, you can find cheap Chinese consumables for yours, and for the SL40 torch, and my SL60, in particular. I’ve tried them and threw them away before I finished the package. They were not very good. Lasted about 25% as long as ESAB’s.
Hey, Pete, like your videos. Is the trifimet s25k a drag tip? Can't find any information on it anywhere. It is the torch that is used on an Eastwood versacut 20 plasma cutter. I have searched everywhere but with your knowledge I bet you would know. Thanks. Really enjoying your videos!
Will try and find out some info for you
cheers pete
HI Pete. What is the replacement torch for the pt31, that has the spacer? Thanks. Enjoy your videos.
Hi mate i use the AG60 / wsd -60 still cheap consumables but has option for stand off guide . amzn.to/2Wic304
cheers pete
So to confirm, if I have a pilot arc/HF machine I can just put a standard torch on and scratch-start without the arc lead connected?
should work
clear as mud
mud is good
I just bought a pt-31. Do you drag the tip only when starting the arc or do you drag the tip for the entire cut?
Hi mate the entire cut
thanks pete
Too bad! you should have bought the P-80!
Pete, we all enjoy your videos, and we also would like to look forward to many more because your knowledge and advice is valuable, BUT please don't keep using your kit with bare arms exposed to all that UV. I know you've been doing it for years, yatta yatta yatta etc, etc, etc.!! I lost a lot of skin from my arms a long time ago because I did a "last minute" tig job for a mate before locking up for the weekend, and I didn't put my overalls back on because he was in a hurry, and well, a mate's a mate, right? It was a very painful lesson. Rant over!! Keep the videos coming Pete, you're good at presentation. Stay Safe!
We all know its bad for us long term but we are all adults and make those choices anyway. I have welded for years mig and lots of stick mostly and never used a respirator unless I was in a real dead space with zero air moving like in a tank or under strict OSHA rules as a contractor. Low hydrogen rods put off some nasty fumes but I still alive. I make little cuts and welds all the time without sleeves or gloves. I promise all of the RUclips safety police that if I die of cancer I won't bitch how I got it and I doubt he would either. Everyone should read their manuals and use their own judgment when working with dangerous equipment. Especially if you are counting on RUclips as your instructor!!
WIFE, GOT ME SOME GLOVES FOR XMAS
Have you seen my biggest safety mistakes yet?
