- Hi everyone! Here I have a FULL Toefl Listening test. This is ITP / Paper Based, not iBT.
Before you begin, please make sure you won't be interrupted. You must have a sheet of paper to write your answers.
DO NOT take notes.

Wondering about the answer to #4? Read this! (TOEFL tutor and native US English speaker here.)
In question #4, the man is asked about Chuck, whom he has just visited in the hospital.
"He's looked better," the man says.
This is a tricky one. I've shared this video with some of my own students, and they had trouble with this question too. Still, the usage in #4 is important to understand.
"*He's* looked better" means "he has looked better (in the past) than he did when I saw him just now."
"*He* looked better" would mean "he looked better just now than he did before."
The first sentence, the one in the video, means Chuck is _not doing so well_.
The second sentence, which doesn't appear in the video, would mean Chuck _seems to be getting better_.
This verb form ("he's looked," "he has looked") is called the _present perfect_, and we use it to imply that something was true _once_ but is not true anymore. In the late 1990s, there was a rock song whose chorus began
"I've seen better days..."
The person singing that song is saying that things used to be better than they are now. (I.e., things have gotten worse since then.)
Likewise, imagine you are meeting a friend in a new coffee shop. Neither of you have been there before. You order tea, and your friend orders coffee. You wonder whether the coffee at this new place is any good.
You ask her: "How's the coffee?"
She replies: "I've had better."
What she means is: "The coffee I've had in the past (at other places) is better than the coffee I am having now (at this place)."
The same grammar, with the same underlying meaning, is used in #4. Chuck has looked better (sometime in the past) than he did just now, when the man visited him.

Yeah i agree. It's little bit confusing when he's in this test interpreted as he has. I answered it A tho. And i failed 🤧

45/50..... BUT.... It wasnt THAT EASY... you really need to be FOCUSED ... I'm a language Professor and I can understand that one of the problems we ALL have... it's the lack of attention...
You are quite right. Many times,when I find that I really lack of info for answering, I go backwards to the chat and confirm that the specific data I´m requiring it´s there but my mind is engaged on something else, generally daily life´s small nothingness and useless worries. I´ve got 44/50 (within a somewaht noisy build-constructing receding environment) but I wish to better the mark
What?! I got 47/50! My test is literally in 3 and a half hours(last minute studying is the best) . You just have to pay really close attention, but otherwise it’s not really complicated, I’m a senior in high school rn so if I can do it anyone can.

35/50. Thought it would be higher but still good. The problem is that there is a lot of information on the conversation and when it ends I just forget what I just listened! Got 5 mistakes on part A and then 10 mistakes on part B and C

I think a recent change has been you are now allowed to take notes when doing the TOEFL ITP Listening test. But you can only take notes in the test booklet. It's not like iBT where you take notes on a separate piece of paper. But always check with the administrators of your particular test first.
I really happy with channel. Because this channel help me to understand about TOEFL. But I think difficult in number 47 through 50 because this stories it's to long. Thank you for this channel. This channel help me to improve my listening skill.
LOL GRAMMAR
It's more than listening. It's your interpretation as well. Moreover, the multiple choices trick you in a limit of time.
Even if you are an English Native Speaker!! It doesn't mean that you will get full score!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It means a lot to me who wants to improve my listening comprehension and TOEFL score as well. I need to obtain the score above 550. It's possible to those of you who believe in it.
FYI: If anyone of you who wants to determine the correct answer of the options from the previous conversation, make sure that you choose the different option among others and the answer is actually not really the same that you heard from the conversation.

I have a problem with memorizing details.. which means that I can fully understand a conversation, but I forget what I hear before time of questions, specially with long conversations

48/50 - The tricky part for me is concentrating on the best possible answer. Takes a lot of brainpower even for native speakers to do this without pausing and rewinding.
I think this is a good video to increase our listening ability. It provides another kind of exercises for us to learn listening. The native speakers aren't fast in speaking, so we can understand what they are talking about. However, i still find some difficulties when listening to this video. For the example in no 26, it's hard for me to understand about the response of the man. that's not clear enough. :)

31/50, not so bad but I will try harder next time to get 40/50. The hardest part is not listening or understanding the conv., but choosing the right answer among many the tricky one.

heyhooo... this is not an ITP TOEFL. this is a part or complete test practice from Longman Preparation for TOEFL Test..lol. you might want to be more honest by putting additional info of where you take this sample from.

Part A: 28 correct; 2 incorrect: 4 and 25
Part B: 8 correct; 0 incorrect
Part C: 9 correct; 3 incorrect: 39, 43, and 48.
I think I did pretty good for my first try.

Got 28/50.. It was useful cuz this practice gave me experience.. Now i know where is my level... Need more training for my real test on 24th..
42/50 . Really, it wasn't that difficult but some of the questions are pretty tricky... I didn't expect that, so I took the test very casually, without focusing that much. I should say that listening to podcasts and interviews can really help, in those cases because you get used to listening and understanding. Fortunately, those sentences are quite easy to grasp. What is really complicated is not being able to take notes xD Anyways, this was fun !
Come here by chance, never pratice before and result was 36/50. Well not that bad, it also encouraged me to think about taking exam in near future, self-learning, maybe ;)

Exactly! Alternative "A" means that the plane took of just after the man arrived, with him inside of it xD...I know it is a little weird, but it is clear that he was able to catch the plane, so no other alternative would be correct.

and I can't believe it because I understand all the t.v. shows in english and all the interviews of my favorite singers i don't know why i can't have a good score in this :( i am so frustated as you can see I write well in english i mean you understand what I wrote right? so why I can't pass the TOEFL :( I AM SO ANGRY WITH MYSELF :(

Because he says "He's looked better" which means that he had been better than that. The correct would be "D": Chuck didn't seem to be doing very well.

Guys, this is ridiculous! I put A too coz it's what the man did mean. But the joke should be that his intonation was sad lol, That's why "Chuck didnt seem to be doing very well" which is D. Probably A would be correct if the man cried out loud and laughed in the end lol. This is stupid.
It is not ridiculous. It's a matter of listening carefully, and knowing idioms. It has nothing to do with intonation. A is not the same as D. It's not the same to say "he LOOKS better" than to say " HE'S LOOKED better". That's the difference.
Hang on! Does it mean something like "There were times when he had a better look"? Like "there were better days for him" Could it be paraphrased in such a manner? Thanks!

For everyone having focussing problems, I recommend to close your eyes while hearing, it helped me a lot.
It is supposed to listen as if u were listening to the radio at home (totally normal and relaxed), plus is a toefl, and I actually see that I'm not focused while my eyes r closed, cuz I focus more in closing my eyes and seeing everything in black instead of listening to the audios
I can't understand why the answer of question 25 is A!?
I listen the woman said "he is too unhappy to be retiring",so correct answer should be B.
Could you explain why the correct answer is A?

オサ虫大宰 Question 25, woman says "He isn't too unhappy to be retiring", meaning the boss IS happy to be retiring.
+オサ虫大宰 this is "double negative": I am not unhappy = I am happy. I am not Unconfident = I am confident. Two negatives make a positive.
Ahh, I see... I didn't hear the "isn't" part. That's why I thought the same with him. And I did answer B for Q No.25 :(. Thx for explaining, btw!
