- Stuðlagil Canyon in Iceland has become a very popular location on social media in 2019. It's for a good reason. It's a very beautiful and impressive canyon of basalt rocks. You can visit the canyon from both sides and in this video we're taking the long hike (10km round trip) to visit the eastern side.

Got your map..I am going to use it a lot for my trip!! What ND filters do you typically use?
This place is absolutely nuts. The rock formation doesn’t even look real. So cool. Love the photos.
Mads, Thank You for your splendid videos. I like how you unselfishly share your locations and give detailed instructions how to to get to them. I'm very impressed with your unselfish, helpful ways for others to see the beautiful places you travel to. Very Professional.
Every time I watch one of your videos there are 2 things that go through my mind. Firstly WOW WOW WOW and secondly I want to go there!!! Thank you so much for sharing such beautiful locations and amazing pictures.
Thank you Mads for sharing these videos
Your video and photos are absolutely amazing. You are one of the premier photography vloggers on RUclips today.
Other worldly and glorious. Thanks for sharing
Thank you, James! :)
Nature is so fantastic, what a location, surreal. Your excitement is infectious.
Great vid.

Fantastic , one of your best videos. Congratulations Mads. Keep them coming.
Hermilio Quintana he’s been stepping it up lately!
Wow.. ..Speechless !!!! Thank you for sharing this super beautiful video
Beautiful copper and greys in those images fantastic
Another excellent video Mads, always look forward to your posts and are never disappointed.
We just came back from Iceland and used your map to travel around the whole island. Thank you so much! It was definitely worth it!! Great video, great photos and beautiful location!
Thanks a lot for buying! Happy you had a great trip!
Shots are perfect as always. Your videos inspired me to visit the Iceland.
Darkcyber2 when he nails the image... HE NAILS THE IMAGE 🙌🏽
Wonderful video and beautiful images Mads. Thanks for sharing
The drone certainly comes in handy when treacherous terrain makes for sketchy hiking conditions. The drone footage here is fantastic, as are the images you came away with.
Stunning. Love the abstracts!
Wow, what a great looking location! Beautiful images once again, Mads 👊🏻
Rich JV that place is so surreal!
Useful to see the information of what it's actually like to get there. Very helpful for planning and knowing how long it'll actually take at some of these spots.
That Forrest of trees behind the Basalt wall to the left along the river of water captured with your amazing drone footage!!! U N B E L I V A B L E ! The land that time forgot...pristine rugged ...words fail me! As always thank you for sharing your incredible travels!
This Mads is one of my favourites of your series . You are world class ! 👏👏👆🏼👌🏻 such stunning compositions ! You are now my favourite landscape photographer .. I have been following you since your earlier days on RUclips when you were using a Canon camera ! Simply exquisite work !
Thank you very much, Ross! This series is also a huge one. Years of work ;)
Mads Peter Iversen I can see the effort put into it .. all credit goes out to you my friend .. bravo 👏
Again a perfect Video! Island is on my bucket list 😊
Watching your videos is going to cost me a fortune. First the Faroe Islands now Iceland... From the east cost of the USA neither is an inexpensive proposition. Well done and thanks.
Summer is probably the best time to visit, hit that place up in June of this year and the water was crystal clear, you can also get down to the river level as it was really low meaning access was satisfactory, still slippy in places but do able
Thanks for another great video with good information about Iceland and with excellent photos taken on the spot.
Great video and drone adds extra dimensions.
Thanks a lot, Mike :)
Words cant describe its beauty!
Great video's look forward to your weekly releases!!!!
What a truly fantastic place you see so much I am so amazed by the world we live in
That waterfall photo... fantastic man
Super cool location and video Mads!
Thanks a lot, Aritz! :D
I was at Studlagil Canyon during my second trip to Iceland in June. It was one of my favorite places to visit. We were fortunate enough to have the canyon pretty much to ourselves. The water was a wonderful turquoise blue. Thank you for the wonderful video.
Oh that smooth water over basalt is epic!
I live aprox 40 minutes away from Stuðlagil and i have never been there. Maybe some day i will take a look at it. Love your videos and your approach to shoot our nature.
Thanks a lot! I know that feeling of not exploring your backyard ;)
@@MadsPeterIversen ohh i do. But avoid the tourist traps. I know my back yard very well. :) i shoot film and well... just have another approach to my photography. You are one of few digital shooters that i follow because you are entertaining, talented, an insperation and looks like you have a real respect for our nature. :) you can check me out at instagram.com/koxinn
Well, this video is a little frustrating. Had I watched it two days ago I would have been able and more than willing to change my plans and drive the couple of hours from where we’re staying in Laugar to see this beautiful place. As it is, I’m out of time, and need to head back to Reykjavik today. Ah well, maybe next time. Thanks Mads, great video, and like your choice of shots.
What a spot! You may not have gotten what you set out to get, but wow what you got was stunning! :)
Merci de nous faire découvrir de nouveaux endroits en Islande. « Use my Brain »....
One of your most fantastic videos (and that is saying a LOT)!
Hehe, thanks a lot, Kevin!
What an epic place!
Really interesting location & sound advice on safety! No photograph is worth your life!
Love Basalt. Devils tower is one of my favorite basalt formation!
Ron Kreml so interesting how they form!
Love it
Fantastic as always! That black line between the water and the rock looks really cool, almost like two different photos stitched together.
Went to Iceland a few years ago & now after watching your video makes me want to go back just to see this area. Thanks for sharing!
Impressive basalt columns !!. extraordinary country !! 😍. All beauifully photographed 😉
Watching your videos I feel the need to going out to take photos and travel. Good job Mads
Another great video ! Thanks for sharing this unbelievable beautiful location. Love the pictures you made !!!!!
Great!
Amazing, simply amazing. You are bringing to us oldies places we could only dream of going to photograph. Thank you

Congratulations on you’re new find! Spectacular!
Amazing footage…. I have been there two weeks ago and if I would have watched this video, my shots would have been way better… I was able to walk down, but unfortunately-and overwhelmed by the scenery- I didn’t pay attention to the best photo spot. I was so happy that I was alone for about 2 minutes down there that I didn’t realise that I had been „too deep“ into the rocks to get the perfect shot. That said I only had 35mm fixed lense fullframe so this narrows the pictureframe also… but I couldn’t blame myself, it was an amazing and inspiring experience, the water was blue and the sun came out a little bit as I was down there…
Thanks Mads. I think the waterfall shot is my favourite. Enjoying your work, and the passion you obviously have for what you do is inspiring.
My husband and I visited here last year, but because we were losing light and I was unsure of exactly how long of a walk it would be we went to the viewpoint on the other side which you can drive up to and climb partially down from. Next time we go I'll feel a lot more comfortable because you've showed how to get there and what to expect! Thanks, and awesome video as always!
Absoluut beautiful waterfall wit the green algea. Thnx for another great vlog Mads.
phenomenal photos!
What an incredible place and brilliant images Mads. I think I may have to put this place on my bucket list :). Thanks so much for sharing : )
Awesome video, as usual Mads!
Beautiful
What an amazing location! Thank you for sharing it with us.
We are off to Iceland next week, and have added this to our list. Thank you for your videos!!
Absolutely awesome, you got some great shots there Mads, the waterfall was a fantastic bonus, stunning. It looks very dangerous neer the edge of the water, one slip and your gone....... thanks for the video and keep up the great work :)
Love the close up of the waterfall Mads, great canyon and good advice as usual.
Beautiful! I absolutely love this series! Thank you!
Love this Iceland series. Heading to Iceland 🇮🇸 very soon to do a ring road trip and these vlogs have given me so many fantastic locations to visit. Thanks Mads 👍
This is beautiful, and you have treated it well. I will be traveling to Iceland in November and can’t wait to visit Stoksness and other sites on your map!
Stokksnes is indeed amazing! Absolutely epic!
Really nice thought out edit my friend, that location looked incredible, I really liked the waterfall shot on the walk upto the causeway aswell. Very peaceful I can imagine that would be a great large print
Awesome, the drone shots were just amazing, thank you for the commentary, sadly I will never be able to visit such a stunning place so I will visit vicariously through videos such as this.
Another EPIC video, Mads! There, I used the word you were straining not to say! Ha! ;-)
The image at 10:34 is stunning.
Very nice video Mads, I love the location and yours shots of it....
Awesome video. I was in Iceland in June 2019 and I’m seriously regretting skipping this spot now that I know about the color change, because the next time I want to visit is in Fall. 😩 still worth it I’m sure but wish I caught the turquoise water when I had the chance. Oh well, live and learn...
Another great video!
Awesome video! The Icelandic govt should sponsor you. I've been there twice and your vids make me want to return soon.
Bob S he definitely deserves to be an ambassador
Wow this video is superb. I went to Iceland in 2017 but misted this Basalt Canyon. Thank's for showing it to me. Did you take drone photos in the Canyon ?
Stunning location, very similar to Fingal's cave and the Giant's causeway. Fantastic images as always.
Always look forward to these mate!
Really loved your cinematic sequences here and your close up abstracts! I know you don’t like them but you have an eye for it!
Man I love your work and channel its inspiring for me since im a new one in this area. But I really like Fuji m43 and thinking of buying one maybe pro3 when its out. I really hope they can somehow get to your quility of pics for landscapes with their lenses. I know Sony full frames are probably much better but I love street photography as well and I live in Edinburgh which is good for this. I watched your videos from Scotland it was fun to see hehe I am from Poland btw. Cheers
Another great video Mads. I’ve not seen other pics from here but love your last one. The abstract ones are nice but wonder how it would look converted to monochrome.
Hi Mads, I have just watched your entire series on “Iceland Photography Guide” prior to a whistle stop tour this August 2021. It has to be the most concise series ever done on such a beautiful country. I am travelling with my daughter but only have 4 days and have picked out about 20 of the most iconic locations that I think we might be able to do in the time we have. The guide you have put together is not only incredibly useful but quite simply fabulous. Thank you for all the advice you give, it has helped me put together a plan of sorts and I hope we get to stand in similar places to take in the amazing beauty and of course get a few shots 👍📷🌋🏔🌄
Thank you so very much for such kind words! It really means so much to hear! Thank you!
As always a great piece of video, I really do appreciate your safety warnings!
Beautiful shots Mads. I'm sure some of those would also look great in B+W!
Great as usual
love this video! i came across it in my suggestion list so now i will have to check out some of your other stuff!!
Awesome! Then RUclips works :)
Wonderful!
love it Mads 😊
Wonderful
Not many people can make a gross colored river an extraordinary shot they all turned out spectacular nice job Mads
Haha, thanks a lot, Joseph!
So magical.....have you ever had anything published?
Beautifull Mad. Impressive Landscape!
love your videos!
Stunning location, your commentary is interesting as always! Great video & love the still at 4:32 & 10:22
Great job on the drone and pictures. Actually now in 2023 you do not have to cross the bridge and take a walk. You can continue driving straight on the unpaved road of and 5 Km later they have build a parking spot and a steel platform overlook over the canyon. Of course, you are now on the opposite bank of the canyon.
Nice work! Amazing location! Thanks!
Splendido
as much as photos and videos make this place look awesome this place is even more spectacular in person. The second wooden bridge from the car park is now finished. The walk is really obvious for 80% but the last part is totally unclear "where do i go" - just follow your noise and so long as you've got boots on the boggy field to cross is no problem. looks like the path you took takes you past it and back - i missed that route completely and just went across the boggy heather field. I'm just back from five weeks out there so lots of images to process and i cant wait to check my footage of this place.
Had an ethereal feel to the scene Mads and loved how you worked the reflected light of the walls of the river canyon. Do you envisage revisiting the location in the future?
Thanks a lot, Jim! Not in the near future no :)
💓這個大峽谷真是太漂亮了!🤗🤩👍
Great location, first look reminds very much of a scene from "Lord of The Rings" . Great video's look forward to your weekly releases.
Tony Cannan definitely right out of a sci-fi movie
