You're like..... One of few RUclips reviewers who made a dedicated video on his mishaps. Keep up the grind, dude. Hopefully you'll get your Master's degree quickly.
I'm not gonna lie, this video was inspired by both my reflective essay for my Master's and Mecha Gaikotsu's self-expose video, so that I may find closure in the chaos. Glad you popped by and appreciate the effort. Though fingers crossed for my Master's final essay, as I'm still waiting for my results as of this comment.
This is unironically a really cool video. I can’t think of any other RUclipsr in the hobby who cares so deeply as to not only acknowledge the minor mistakes in past reviews, but use it as an opportunity for reflection and growth. This is a great message on how to manage mental health too, and something that I wish was talked about more often. You make fantastic content MJ. Excited for this next chapter for you, both personally and as a Gunpla content creator 🙌
I stress about the hobby and my integrity because I care immensely about what I put out and how I help out in the hobby. It's unhealthy when it becomes an obsession, but there's a virtue in that. Also, thank my Master's for inspiring me to do this in the first place. Let the next arc commence
Tbh, even with all the mistakes, I found that your review is the most informative. It is short and compact. You also covered more in a short review rather than the other creator with long reviews
Yep this is the exact reason MJ's my favourite reviewer. Covers in at least half if not up to 1/5 the time the exact same things if not more that are covered in anyone else's video. Not to mention taking the time to go back and correct any mistakes, no matter how minor!
One thing I commented with MJ as to why I like his stuff is that he seems to follow on the lines of a retired reviewer named TypeV3 Really compact yet informative reviews And shows how a kit looks out of the box then with effort put to it It’s that kind of effort that to me makes his reviews the most credible than the others who take around 6 minutes to explain what a holding hand is then 40 more to show what stuff it holds
Dear MJ, we all make mistakes...that's what makes us better given time and reflection...please keep it coming and wishing you only the best and praying you adapt to your new environment if you haven't already...God Bless!
Precisely what motivated me to make this video in the first place, to reflect upon the anomaly and move on from it so as to do a better job in the future. I'm still trying to get used to the UK, especially having been hurt to the point I need to be medicated, but I'm hoping that I find my place here soon. Cheers to you.
I'm gonna be honest, every reviewer makes mistakes or misses a feature all the time, and i never really see it as a big deal, but i appreciate your aspiration to uphold your content to the best possible degree in quality and accuracy.
I pride on accuracy, so I want to keep my content as accurate as possible, especially when those issues are preventable had I paid more attention. Glad you appreciate the effort
Your courage to self review yourself, point out all the issues, and document your findings is truly an impressive effort. To echo your point 1, have confidence in yourself. I watch 3/4 reviewers on average for whatever kits that come out, not just because i want the info (im not buying most kits anyways), but also because the content is of high quality, be it you, the skeleton you spoke of, or some zaku that makes content at a leisurely pace.
It felt like I've committed a crime uploading this video, but facing mistakes and publicizing it for all to see is bound to come with discomfort. At least now that it's done, I can find closure in this ordeal and strive to do better in the future.
There's been a few kits where I have skipped other creators' videos and instead waited a few days for your review. This is because I enjoy your format and video length a lot more.
I appreciate your commitment to high quality reviews! Definitely my favorite gunpla review channel on youtube right now. Thanks for the corrections, and here's to future reviews!
Regardless the mistakes, I'm always looking forward to see your videos since you're one of the best English speaking Gunpla review out there. *Not to mention the extra detail painting that I really appreciate as fellow gunpla enjoyer ❤
Kudos to you MJ for doing this. And while the mistakes that you've pointed out in this video can easily be overlooked, it still is a nice thing that you're willing to acknowledge and reflect on them, instead of just letting it be. Also, let me say (again) that I'm really a fan of your Gunpla reviews. You really keep things as accurate and objective as possible. You even mention some things like a somewhat detailed lore behind the Gunpla kit. Overall, I'd say keep up the good work. But take it easy from time to time, okay?
I pride on accuracy, and I hate reviews that are inaccurate out of ignorance for something. The very least I could do is address mine and not sound like an absolute hypocrite. Still, I'm glad you appreciate my efforts even with the flaws and mistakes. Thank you.
Please don't be hard on yourself. I think we have a great community around you and your channel, and this video alone (and previous edits to your previous videos) show you have great work ethic. We all make mistakes - but actively making an effort to address those and make a goal to continuously improve? You're a great person. I'm a graduating uni student as well who juggles work and this hobby, we got this! Great times ahead
This is a really good standard for RUclipsrs in this position to go by Too many people use excuses to actually do something like this, they don't really care about or consider the impacts of propagating bad/wrong information
Really grinds my gears how someone might miss a signature feature of a kit or spread an opinion backed by incorrect information. That's why I've made this video to address every single one of them from last October to now, and to give myself a constant reminder to learn from the experience
First, congrats on getting where you are in your studies and I wish you the best on the results of your Master's. I know from my bachelor's that academia is rough. Going back to correct what few, small errors you may have in your videos is already extremely appreciated, and finding lessons to drive your future years of life forward from it is frankly inspirational. You are my favorite youtuber in the gunpla sphere, and your professional but passionate demeanor is a huge part of that, being on the spectrum myself I get overwhelmed by videos that feel too disorganized or forcedly-high energy. A small detail that I immensely appreciate is that you clearly demarcate when you've switched from a snap-built kit to your final painted model, seeing as I'm a beginner whose builds will be closer to the former. Good luck MJ, both as a youtuber and life in general. Will be patiently awaiting to see what you produce, and I thank you in advance for it. Also hope you're having a blast with GB4- hope to do so myself at some point in the future.
Finger's crossed that my results return well. And I'm glad to be able to deliver with my reviews despite the errors. Cheers mate. Also yes, I had a blast with GB4 while it lasted. Still going through a rough patch while it first came out, but it was still fun.
Mistakes always been made no matter how careful we are. We always appreciate your efforts on updates and addressing mishaps in the previous videos. As a fellow hobbyist, I can relate when it comes ro reversed assembly and somewhat blaming the illustration of the manual or just we are too focused on which part numbers indicated for assembly hence those mistakes. My biggest sin in gunpla is how I missed the swivel joints in my RG Nu Gundam and I accidentally threw the runner away without checking the manual until I realized something's missing with my weapon holding hands... Since then, my Nu has no way to hold its beam sabers and the bazooka... No matter how much I read the manual many times before assembling a kit, I always suffered from the lack of awareness. I hope you're doing well out there and look forward for more reviews in the future!
That is a massive ouch from me. I accidentally threw out the Hambrabi's beam sabers as well, and was forced to sculpt them with sprues and putty while buying a duplicate for the review. Mistakes are bound to happen, yes, but in those 15 instances I think it's with a lack of prevention. I have no guarantees that I'd perfectly fix my working patterns, but when it happens, I know that I'd have tried my best to prevent them with the lessons I've learned.
You're taking the effort to scratch build , paint, reply to every comment. No surprise if mistakes are made but you don't need to take it so hard. Everyone here know you're a damn good gunpla reviewer!
You noticed so many mistakes that I never even noticed. I hope someday I get to gain such an artist’s eye for these things. Your videos are wonderful, and good luck with your schoolwork!
Oh wow, this truly shows your dedication to this channel! I didn't even notice the mistakes and the fact you made a video owning up to them shows wonders. Love your reviews and hope to see more in the future!
Don't sweat the small stuff and take as much time as you need! Your reviews genuinely keep getting better and better despite whatever small detail might be incorrect (also sidenote about the Launcher Striker's Subarm, i honestly like that orientation better and probably will display it like that lol) - Kenta
Nonetheless even with those mistakes you are still my favorite reviewer. Thanks MJ you are always my go to for kit reviews, like the format and the way you review not being biased or taking them as toys and for those not so good kits i prefer the suit yourself or needs more work rather than just calling them trash. Also the fact you are apologizing for this is amazing, most would have just leave it be.
Good to see you're doing well, and it's good that you are aware about your priorities. Uni life can be quite hectic, coming from an undergrad myself. If you need some time off, feel free to, we'll totally understand! I'm also quite busy with my final year project and my courses in uni, so I do set my priorities to studies and family, which is why I only upload content when I am able to. That being said, I respect your commitment into the Gunpla community, with major contributions. If you need to talk with me, just contact me anytime! 😉
Now that my uni life is over, I can finally focus on what makes me happy before I tackle life again. In this case, this. Since I've put what's nagging me about my content to bed, I can finally heal from it. I'll hit you up when I wanna talk, thanks mate
Big respect, MJ I think i speak for all of us when we say you’re a great and dedicated RUclipsr We all hope you keep up your great work, and know well that we the audience and fans will be right here to back ya up, man
We love you MJ and I know what you're going through it's good to stay strong remember when you're feeling down and think you're nobody you are somebody a person who doesn't give up we support you
Thanks, I appreciate it. My mentality is one I get into something, I have to see to it to the very end. It's a detriment if pursued unhealthily, but I guess the tenacity is a virtue as well
i can only imagine how many things you have on your hands. having been a uni grad myself(albeit i'm a bachelor). please take your time with the review and study. take care of yourself too MJ.
Now that my studies are over, I can focus on recuperating myself and reviewing Gunpla. I'm still not 100, in fact I've been more broken compared to when I made the post about my break, but I'm managing now that I've found closure for one of my stressors. Take care of yourself as well
I love your channel and watch a lot of other review channels and they make way more mistakes that I can notice its always a rush with new Kit releases some channels I see do these videos the second they get it called a OOBR (out of box review) and its just looking at the runners after opening the box which draws a lot of eyes but more then likely its of people assuming its a full review or build because the oob is cut off and at the end of the title and I will always love your reviews so long as you don't start giving 10 stars only because its got Amaazinggg articulation and easy build ....which a lot of channel do like its a toy not a model and on top of all this you are learning how British people talk and live that insane gj
I try to be as comprehensive and objective as possible, so I'm glad you like how meticulous I go into making these reviews. Also it is true that haste makes waste, as I've had to learn the hard way. So I'll be taking more time per video doing more checks and stuff to make sure that the accuracy matches the quality. Respect to you for appreciating the effort. And yes, my terminology and vocabulary are getting more British the longer I live here lol.
I know the feeling of living in another country like that I spent one year in Belgium for my studies and despite speaking the same language as the people there were a lot of stuff to adjust to while I was there in that time and did had a massively problem with depression. My best advice, which you already seem to be doing is to get out more and create a new social network which is obviously helping a lot for your adjustment there. Hope you get better man.
Gunpla communities seem limited to the larger cities here in the UK, which isn't where I'm staying nor where my family and I would end up during our move to our new house. On top of that, virtual groups can only satiate our primal need for social activity for so much, so I agree that I need to go out more. I've been trying my best but that's been stressing me out way too much. I'm taking a step back so that I don't lose more than I already have, and trusting that friends will come in due time.
I still can't believe what an amazing work ethic you're displaying. Since the first review of yours, I knew you were going to be my go-to reviewer for Gunpla. This video just cements my opinion on you. KEEP. UP. THE. GOOD. WORK! Just a minor nitpick: don't even compare yourself to Gaikotsu. That guy doesn't even hold a candle to you. Views don't mean shit compared to your quality.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I hold myself to a high standard not only because I grew up with it, but I want to also be the best reviewer I can be since I love to help people with stuff I have knowledge in. About the nitpick though, the comparisons with MGK isn't meant to be about views, it's just to cite my sources about upload dates and prove that my content can stand on merit alone despite not being the first to the punch. If my content can garner the numbers they did, even when working against a giant in the algorithm, then it's even more proof that my worries are unfounded, so I should take my time with my content to make them as good as it can be.
Also, on the G-Defenser topic: the back thrusters should be painted red on the inside and the long upper thrusters (casted in gray) should have the back painted white according to the pictures of the manual. But it's okay if you miss some of those minor details on a kit, it just happens, man. When I build that G-Defenser's Long Rifle, I somehow forgot to put the grip for the weapon, so I had to take it apart to actually place it. It wasn't pleasant, but it makes me chuckle nowadays. So don't worry about those mistakes too much, they happen from time to time. And also: there's some black missing on the Flying Armor's wings, Bandai didn't provided stickers for those. Please don't be mad.
Bleh. I did my best looking for references at the time, so I'm over missing paint details. (totally not me thinking that inner thruster colors aren't important at the time, but that was over a year ago). I'm fine with missing paint details from back then, and there's no harm in going back to them in the future if needed.
i hope the future for you is bright and move on for the better. and good choice of using the Hobby Clubhouse like background music or the same one hehe
YT Music Studio only has so many good tracks for casual commentary. I'll try to move on from my mistakes and make sure they won't happen again in the future though, cheers
I feel like admitting you made a mistake in a genuine manner is waayyyyy better than the mentioned RUclipsr who either glossed over his mistakes or sarcastically talk about his criticism as "haters".
In fact, this video was partly inspired by the skeleton's self-expose. Though I feel like theirs blamed their screw-ups on external circumstances and alcohol a bit too much
Really respect this much commitment to quality, very appreciated. and as someone who's doing Masters right now as well (Chemistry, going for thesis in pharmaceutics) I can't fathom how you manage to do everything all at once. PS: what's your Masters about?
I'm still not sure how I was able to juggle like 4 to 5 big changes at once and still pull through. But with a lot of them over at this point, I can take time to slow down and focus. My Masters was in developmental psychology, which is one of the inspirations and motivators for this video in the first place.
I don't want to name other Gunpla youtubers (mostly Mecha Gaikotsu) but if they did an accurate video correcting all their mistakes, it'd include just about every video they ever made. You're doing pretty good, to put it lightly.
Bro reviewed HIMSELF. Major respect, man. Glad you're taking time to be kind to yourself. Congrats on your Master's, be safe and we'll see you in the next video. 💪🏾
You know what? A "correction" like this is actually kind of cool. May as well link this video to your original video. Good luck on your driver license test, best wishes.
I did link this video to every review referenced before publishing this. I just had to get it off my back or else it'd bug me that I didn't demonstrate the features correctly. Thanks for the wishes for my test though, appreciate it.
50/50. It's functionally identical to the Hobby variant, so I'm not sure. Might add it to my collection at some point, but I'm not sure if I wanna go out of my way to review one on release
Don't worry man. Mistakes happen. You learn from them and move on. At least you aren't someone who speedruns kits without looking at instructions and then blame the kit after building it wrong. ;)
It's strange that these mistakes happened 15 times already, so I needed more drastic measures and closure to make sure it's nailed into my head. This video is it, since I needed to actively go out of my way to fix things, and have this pinned to my channel page to remind me of what not to do.
If doing this video is cathartic for you, go for it. But aside from that this is not needed. A simple note or reupload of the corrected video should suffice. These are not mistakes that should be grinding away at your mind even less if this video just causes more stress. Cheers.
It is precisely because I want closure for the mistakes that I made this video, so this not only serves as catharsis for me, but also an active reminder to not make the same mistake again. Don't worry
It's good to own up to your mistakes, but IMO you might be taking these reflections too seriously? I mean, I get you what to be the most informative, correct, and thorough, but you're bound to miss things here and there zooming thru kits, painting & coating them, AND doing all the review scripting & camera work to boot... ALL ON TOP OF real life stuff as well, such as your move, Masters, and the new environment. And we all know how the algorithm gets fickle when creators slow down (which is a good thing that I'm subbed & belled.) All that is to say, I'm glad like everyone else you're reflecting and being up front about it. But IMO this could have been a series of community post, which takes less work. And you could have spent the time resting or treating yourself. God know we're turning ourselves into a burnout society. You're bound to make more mistakes anyway. Don't be too hard on yourself, MJ, & take care. o7
Doing too much good isn't one thing I'd own up to. Besides, I blame my Masters for motivating me to do this video, as journaling and consciously reflecting on mistakes is a proactive way to learn from the past, by taking direct action and having a constant reminder of what came before. Besides, I acknowledge that zooming through kits is harmful to both the integrity of the video and my mental state, so from now on I'm gonna be taking my time with each video and not worrying about coming first in order to make the best and most accurate content possible. Also, making this a video not only satisfies my itch of demonstrating the features and stuff on video (as I absorb information better through videos rather than images), but also forces me into an active role when taking accountability for them, serving as a constant reminder of what not to do. Sure, I might slip up here and there in the future, but then there's no excuse for me not to be more careful now that my Master's course is over. Besides, this video gives me closure on videos from the past year, so that I can at least put one of my many stressors to rest in order to recuperate better. Cheers for popping by anyway.
Call me a perfectionist, but a single wrongful stroke on a kanji character can change its meaning entirely. A mistake is a mistake, no matter how minor they are, and they're oversights that need addressing.
You're like..... One of few RUclips reviewers who made a dedicated video on his mishaps. Keep up the grind, dude. Hopefully you'll get your Master's degree quickly.

I love how principled you are, my dude. You’re number one in my book
I try to uphold my own standards, and I have to come clean when I slip.
I appreciate your commitment to high quality reviews! Definitely my favorite gunpla review channel on youtube right now. Thanks for the corrections, and here's to future reviews!

I appreciate it

Mecha is cool, but even if I’ve watched his review of a kit, yours are such a different flavor it doesn’t stop me from clicking on yours.
Thank you, I do appreciate people like you who won't mind a third opinion beyond the top most search result
Hey man, we all make mistakes, it's cool that you're acknowleding all this though! I always enjoyed your reviews.
Acknowledgement is the first step to improvement. Glad you enjoyed the videos though, despite their flaws.
Third, and MJ ty for addressing your mistakes as it helps a lot of people to enjoy such fun hobby. Always you are a great youtuber
I try to uphold my integrity, so I'm glad you appreciate the effort
Great job. Subbed.
Thank you
I feel like admitting you made a mistake in a genuine manner is waayyyyy better than the mentioned RUclipsr who either glossed over his mistakes or sarcastically talk about his criticism as "haters".
@@mj2005gundam spotted a fellow psych 😁
I don't want to name other Gunpla youtubers (mostly Mecha Gaikotsu) but if they did an accurate video correcting all their mistakes, it'd include just about every video they ever made.
You're doing pretty good, to put it lightly.
Thanks Onion. I just needed to own up to my own to find closure and move on
Bro reviewed HIMSELF. Major respect, man. Glad you're taking time to be kind to yourself. Congrats on your Master's, be safe and we'll see you in the next video. 💪🏾
I'm gonna take it slow and ease back into the workflow going forward, and fingers crossed for my results. Respect for you for popping by as well.
This is supremely based
Thank you
The fact that you make a correction for your own mistakes is a one brave move.
It feels icky because it seems like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but it's still a move I think is necessary for closure
This title is funny as hell
I tell no lies with it
"A certain skeleton" lol
Yeah
You know what? A "correction" like this is actually kind of cool. May as well link this video to your original video. Good luck on your driver license test, best wishes.
I did link this video to every review referenced before publishing this. I just had to get it off my back or else it'd bug me that I didn't demonstrate the features correctly. Thanks for the wishes for my test though, appreciate it.
Are you gonna review HG hizack custom (pbandai)
50/50. It's functionally identical to the Hobby variant, so I'm not sure. Might add it to my collection at some point, but I'm not sure if I wanna go out of my way to review one on release
*sympathetic hug*
Thanks
@@mj2005gundam You're welcome dear ^_^
Don't worry man. Mistakes happen. You learn from them and move on.
At least you aren't someone who speedruns kits without looking at instructions and then blame the kit after building it wrong. ;)
It's strange that these mistakes happened 15 times already, so I needed more drastic measures and closure to make sure it's nailed into my head. This video is it, since I needed to actively go out of my way to fix things, and have this pinned to my channel page to remind me of what not to do.
Your honor my client has stated “ooopsie daisies”
At least it isn't law-breaking mistakes.
You are forgiven.
Thank you
If doing this video is cathartic for you, go for it.
And we all know how the algorithm gets fickle when creators slow down (which is a good thing that I'm subbed & belled.)
All that is to say, I'm glad like everyone else you're reflecting and being up front about it.
@@mj2005gundamyeah, you're videos are always a treat!
Wait, i have adhd and autism too😮
High five
These mistakes are so minor I don't think they count
Call me a perfectionist, but a single wrongful stroke on a kanji character can change its meaning entirely. A mistake is a mistake, no matter how minor they are, and they're oversights that need addressing.
Too late. I've already unsubscribed and won't ever see this video! /s
Bleh. Suit yourself. (just playing along, don't misunderstand)
(I know it's sarcasm, but I can see your subscription status thanks to YT badges.)
