- "Rectangle - break it down, boy!" San Diego's immortal battle maestro DJ Rectangle (Scott Kluesner) wrecks shop at the DMC World Eliminations in January 1994, becoming one of only 3 solo performers (along with Germany's Shahin and Australia's KC) to make it to the team-dominated Finals that evening.
My dad showed me this when I was 9.. 18 years ago, Still blows my mind!
Your pops sounds like a cool dude
great dad!
DJ Rectangle is my Favorite DJ of All-Time 🔥 Excellent Scratching and Mixing Skills!!
-DJ Ricky Rick 🎧😎
This dude had balls.
And used them to manipulate a cross fader.
A ballsy approach. Nuts.
Hahahaha Class hahaha That was a nuts mix!!
his rectangle balls
when I was a kid he was like a god.
Still been
Thank you for uploading this. You are a true credit to the Hip Hop Culture. Stay Blessed!!!!
Scott Kluesner, original and skilled
People notice. No effects, computers , or digital music.
Pure talent
Yeah, love that. Superfast cueing with no headphones. Mix jumped out in the middle, he just re cued everything real quick and did it again. Also, actually creative and musical. So much of turntabilsm is just un listenable junk, just trying to cut stuff as quick as possible with no thought that it just becomes an awful annoying noise half the time.
Saw this on vhs back in 96 awesomeness no headphones no fancy buttons just 2 turntables and a simple mixer! 2023 DJs just don’t know!
So well said.
A true Dj set, salute Dj Rectangle!
Still making (mostly) hip hop mixes 2 day 😍👍 imho the best ones!
This is turntablism. Real skill and ingenuity. 2017 DJ's are nothing but computer button pressers with their pre-recorded routines.
I agree. They've ruined turntablism. I remember when hip hop was in its infancy. Just to hear a cassette with a DJ scratching would blow your mind. I remember hearing a cassette with DJ Cheeses DMC winning performance on it...awesome.
@NewYorkBlack I've been saying that for years.when I say it though,i get attacked.but only from the digital guys.but what you said is the truth!
Wait. DJs are just using a recorded mp3 in battles?
ChesterPerry187 I remember entering redbull Thre3style years ago and I was the only one actually loading my next tracks hahaha. I honestly didn’t know you could just pre make your set and load up 1 track per deck and call it a night.
@@ChesterPerry187 no they don't this dude is clueless he is complaining that people uses sets made from mp3 instead of djs using the same shit with pre made battle breaks
that was some advanced shit back then. still dope
The father of custom vinyl, all my 1st battle records were by this guy, now I see why remember theres no curve control on these mixers we used broken of bits of lollipop sticks so we could not go past half way on the fader but still learn the basic scratches. What an inspiration 💯🎛🎚🎧👍
His 4 track mixes are still dope today.
I still think Sinista should've got through to the World Final. I think his juggles were a little to advanced for the judges back then. I remember they had Funkmaster Flex judging in New York! Has he ever performed a proper beat juggle himself before?
i kinda prefer disk in that final -- he had too many skips, but the reactions of the judges and red alert are priceless
It was very funny as the jury sat there and had no idea what was going on. There were a lot of tricks out there that nobody had ever heard of in a DMC event before. Funk Flex didn't do as much scratch in a month as Disk in those 6 minutes 😊
Flex is trash
I saw Rectangle perform this same routine at the DMC West Coast finals in L.A. held at the Palace nightclub prior to the world eliminations. Memories.
djmalcolmXL i wish there was video of that battle-rectangle finished first and disk second
I been fucking with dj rectangle sense i was a kid am 40 now
My dad put me onto this legend when I was a youngin
I heard this guy is the "Real life Cheddar Bob"
Dude is sick AF 2019
dam dam dam, rectangle aint no joke
Yo dude used his ass on the crossfader??
That's mad skills!
How the hell did the records not skip when he tilted the turntable
he used to do 4 tables and did parties for 10 minutes for $100 a minute back in the day
What beat is used at 2.46mins??
If you weren't in NY, PHilly or LA in the 80's. TRUE HEADS know that every other major city experienced the realest in the 90's. Real heads been there & know. Few & far.
the reason aliens haven't taken earth, Rectangle
Get my nob out out for the the cross fader, would that be wrong?
I'm glad gimmicks and body tricks pretty much finished after this
what ever happened to rectangle.

@ 0:34 what is that beat rectangle is using?..I know pumpin pete used it in his 91' set..
King Sun-Be Black, pitched up litlle bit
this rode the damn mixer , he literally put his gooth and used it to cut , how can you compete with this behavior ... ??!!
Bum fader
kind of a bummer that 5 years after beat juggling developed, his routine was nothing but tricks. (And one half ass beat juggle)
in the US final in 93, the only one doing modern patterns was mista sinista, although his set wasn't the greatest either
Sounds like sh!t
this guy was total bullshit ! this has not aged well, i was there and crowd nearly boo'd him off
thats complete bs, stop hating bro.
Garbage
wow vanilla ice is a turntabalist too
