- "I'd like to know, are ya'll ready for some super dynamite soul?" Danish legend Mick Hansen gets busy at the 1988 DMC World Eliminations, revolutionizing the competition by DJing without headphones and instead utilizing sticker cues on his records. The next evening, Mr. Hansen would finish runner-up to American champion Cash Money in a classic Final.
Crazy dope set, thanks for sharing ! it's always funny to see the jury being stone cold while the crowd is going totally wild
Yeah, even Paul Dakeyne one of the DMC legends (producer, mixer) walking in at 3:05 and eating his pen up..
Ahhhhh memories.
Still remember one night, after he had won the Danish champ and arrived at our local radiostation to do the mix live once more.
Even on live radio, he just stood in the tech doing the mix with no headphones, nor any sound in the monitors. And still nailed it once more. :)
great story, Søren -- do you have the audio for this?
@@MichaelShum I will take a dive into my "archive" of old recordings from that time, not sure if I have that one but will take a look.
thank you! if you have any soulshock, dj duke, uggerlose, lmk!!
the real art of a pure dj
at 1:14 when he started cutting rock the bells with Pump me up sound3d dope AF and Cutfather knew it. You can tell by the expression on his face lol Classic
A great set, he was ahead of his time!
One of the big ones is, you can't forget his mix, and in general ... Denmark produced very creative DJs including Ken Larsen who was also special and brilliant in 1987. 😊👍❤🎧🎶🎵🎼💿🎚️🎛💿
Sean “Rudy” Austin Killed them turntables 😂
3:20 the guys in the backs faces lol
Because it was in 1988, this dj was very smart...Very good indeed....He uses and abuses the performances in a futuristic way.... Which many didn't have that creativity...Show!!!
daym pretty much the prequal to DJ Noize. The taped up cues on the records, and on point word play was dope for that era. Noize just took it on another level to win the world championship.
agreed -- you can definitely see the lineage
Wow this was dope. First time seeing this set. Pretty on point.
Turntables Philly style?? Love. Turntabilists....but u can't beat a bit of mixing/ blending... Respect from Ireland:)!
Heard about the dude 'Cutfather' but not seen this. This was a dope, clean, clever set. Great performance.
Men like this made the DMC so dope!!
I think this guy's routine was better than the one that came out as champion.
It’s simple but great! Sometimes simplicity is better than being overly technical and trying to do too much
Party rocking set that is made technically difficult with all those quick needle drops and musically kicks ass 34 years later!
Meu Deus do céu performance extraordinária nunca vi ainda no Dmc Criatividade e sem extrapolar na chatisse do tal Back 2 Back excessivo...esse dj tem meu respeito
damed so clean precise....and
yeah no headphone.
This set is 🔥
Went on to have a very successful pop production and songwriting career.
what music did her produce?
@@dasfreshyo Kylie Minogue, JLS, Olly Murs, The Saturdays, The Pussycat Dolls, Pixie Lott, Boyzone
He produced Return of the Mack as well
@victorkamp6922 i wanna c'him do dat scratch from Return of the Mack "Live!!!" ❤ H8 wen radio cutzit out!!!
Jesus u can see the glue on the record hhahhaha
So Good
so out of all the 'best DJ's in the world'
this guy i think is one of the best, most creative, no headphones and smoothest DJ at the time and even today was more entertaining to watch than most the crap out there with their serato and traktor lack of skills..
but his dancing was shit..!!
Legendary tooo
Made me smile
He looks like the guy that works at mcdowells in coming to America 🤣
lol - you mean louie anderson (rip) ?
@@MichaelShum The turntable Louie 😆
Don’t need headphones , just mark records in the proper spots, if you look at most mix masters compilations DMC’s ,,, Dj’s rearly wear headphones. But that ll cool j with a 45rpm record was definitely hitting.
What he was doing at this time was insane.. I was 14 with the same sweater I got robbed for, lol. Not funny but funny now.
How did that go down?
Stick up kids were a reality, and still are if you don't watch your back. I caught a beat down for my Helly Hansen once.
My little brother had that sweatshirt along with the other Run DMC adidas…those were prized possessions, that sucks you got jacked
Reading comments and lots don't realize he is NOT using headphones!!!!!
That shirt is dope. I want one today
That jumper is fresh!
U.K always went crazy for P.E!
I want that sweater
Right
Great selections by this cat!
レコード渡しかが。優しい.フェーダー真ん中でのプレイが当時にしては改めて見て凄い🎵🎵
I'd like to know, are ya'll ready for some super dynamite bowl?
Dynamite soul
@@LIGHTSKINTELEVISION wow, I forgot I even made this comment. I heard a much more cleaner version of the sample sometime after I posted that and it yeah, it indeed says dynamite soul lol
wow! he's the 1st person I've seen to actually cue on the record! everyone else I've seen in this time was doing a lot of record spinning to find their mark. was he the 1st to do that?
the danish djs invented sticker cues-ken larsen the '87 danish champ was the first to be recorded using them, at the '87 DMC world final in london-then mich hansen revolutionized their use a year later 🙂
@@MichaelShum that's hella dope! they were defiantly ahead of the curve battling wise with record cueing
@@MichaelShum In 87 the competition in Copenhagen was huge with 2 qualification rounds. During the 2nd round Ken Larsen did a perfect 2 turntable version of The Adventures of grandmaster flash (without the speech records) on his Good times record the sticker was put so he always would hit Good times when he dropped the needle. This is how it started.
Disco 3001 thanks for sharing this classic history!!

Dude suffers from what has become DJing today, alot of fckn posturing to the crowd. Sucks.
Poor boy had no dancing skills though..made me cringe...
seems racist but still fresh
i laughed so hard reading this! , definatley fresh...
Thought I was listening to Jive bunny at one point.
Man that was terrible for 1988. The style is about 2yrs out of date at this point?
Great
