I think you need more oil on this machine. There should be a drop or two on all the linkages. I would like to thank you for treating this sewing machine as an actual *machine* when you restored it. You didn’t sandblast the precision gears and connections, and you didn’t get paint in all the threads and linkages. As a sewing machine lover, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that. I saw that some gave you tips on which way to turn the wheel and how to set the timing. We’re you ever able to get it to sew?
Very nice work! There are some very specific things that must be adjusted to get it to sew. Back in 1979 I got a job repairing sewing machines at a Singer store. The very first one I worked on was a singer similar to that one. There is some very specific settings that are required for the needle shaft. Singers had timing marks on the shafts. Others did not, like that one. There are probably measurements for distance down at bottom and 1/4” up from therefor the hook position beside the needle. In order to get the thread to pull up, you must get the upper string installed, get it to go around the shuttle, and the arm on the side to quickly pull it up. I think your tension spring behind the tension discs needs to be wound one or two complete turns around the shaft. You just stuck it on. Best wishes, Kev8n
Thank you very much dear Kevin for your explanations and suggestions. Yes, it seems that it takes a lot of adjustment and some expertise to operate the machine correctly.
@@Restomaniac One more thing. I believe you are turning it backward in the video. To make sure, put some material under presser foot, move stitch regulator down for longer forward motion and turn the wheel. Must turn correct direction.
@@Restomaniac I agree with you, I think that the sewing machine doesn’t work just because he is turning the hand wheel backwards. I restored a Singer 27K, which is almost the same machine and he seems to have done well all the other adjustments, so it seems the reasonable cause.
Love these old sewing machines, mom had one similar but I believe newer model. It had an electric motor to turn the wheel. I had great fun with it as a young man. Thanks for sharing. 😁👍🇨🇱🇺🇸
From what I could see, you must thread the cotton from the top and through the needle, and pull a good bit of it through. Then turn slowly, when the needle goes down into the machine it will take the cotton and loop it over the lower spool ( inside machine ) then from the top you can pull the upper cotton out and it should bring up the lower thread. A bit like lassoing it, you’ve done a wonderful job there and I hope this helps .
Cool to see. I have a late 1800’s, hank crank. Seems to be a “Domestic.” It’s a joy to see them restored. Mine is “with the man” right now getting a do-over. It seems you have a timing issue. It can be re-timed. Also, the hand wheel turns counter-clockwise…toward you, in other words. One more thing, the needle may be in wrong. It matters. Nice job!! 😊
Wow. I wouldn't know where everything went if I pulled it apart! I have an old Singer treadle machine in it's own cabinet I want to restore. I will restore the cabinet but not the sewing machine lol. Beautiful work!

A restauracao ficou maravilhosa.

@Zalora Silver I have a old Singer that is a converted treadle machine that uses this type of bobbin. It was converted to electricity by the addition of a motor on the side that runs the belt. This machine has sewn many thousands of yards of fabric and still runs.
Have you ever considered an ultra sonic parts washer/cleaner❓ I suspect it would speed things up. Just say’n I have used a variety of sewing machines, for light work I liked the old Singers. For heavy work the Adlers made in East Germany.
Nice job, you need to set the timing between upper and lower thread. Would also benefit from it's wooden base. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Creo que el volante está girando hacia la dirección equivocada o que el hilo está mal colocado en la bobina, no obstante la restauración es espléndida y maravillosa, gracias por hacerlo !.
This machine is copy of the Singer 27/127 (many many manufacturers started making Singer 27 copies in the early 1900s) and dates to after 1910---perhaps to the 1920. It has advanced features that weren't introduced by Singer until then. Nice job.
I have an old Singer that looks a lot like this machine, although in better shape as I still sew with it. It has that same style bobbin. The finish is black wrinkle paint, which I love.
Someone might have already commented this, and it may not fix your take-up problem for the bobbin thread, but when you were attempting to sew you were turning the wheel in the wrong direction. The wheel should turn over and towards you, not away (if you were facing the wheel-end of the machine, it would be turning anticlockwise/counterclockwise). If the machine had a hand-crank attached (it looks like it’s supposed to) then you would turn the hand-crank clockwise (away from you, like you’re doing in the video to the wheel) which would then turn the wheel anti-clockwise as it’s supposed to.
My mother had a singer , she used to make wedding dresses and all kinds of things for people , i used to help sometimes , she would guide the material through and i would turn the handle , so in a way i was the drive motor , much cheaper than an electric one 🙂🙂
I was given one 1910, which look similar to that one but doesn’t have handcrank treadle. Where can I get the bullet cover front. It has the slide back.
