my stove got foil always and its 14 years old and it looks like new still .. so stove looks great and works great no need to get rid of it.. luv your mom style..
when we chonkey tomato when heating the oil add one garlic and a tablespoon of geera seeds and let it burn then add it too the tomatoes it's the best flavors and taste you'll ever experience.
Tried your tomato choka and it was just amazing. Just added little bit of black pepper and green chilles for extra hotness. Had it with methi (fenugreek) roti. Awesome.
Your pan is not stained it is seasoned, it when there is a thin layer of oil on the pan, season pans gives you a better cooking texter/flavor compared to a new one. People who bake bread in seasoned pans know how important it is. 😉
Your videos are fantastic and you have made me extremely nostalgic for the traditional ‘Trini’ food. Don’t apologise for using utensils/ equipment that has produced food worn with love . It adds to the beauty of it all ...
Thank you so much for sharing. I haven't had proper tomatoes choka since my mom passed away 3 years ago. Your video made me cry remembering the times I would ask her to make it for me. #trini2deebone
Thank you so very much!!! I am American and I grew-up eating Trinidadian food at least 2-3 times a week because my friend/family were, you got it, from Trinidad. And Tomatoes Choka and Sada Roti were one of my FAVORITE dishes!!!! we lost touch BUT I always craved it, now I can be able to make it... and you made it look simple enough to make! Thanks1
I like your videos about cooking, and I have learnt a lot from you. I am Trini but live in Dallas , TX, and missed Trini food so had to learn to make it myself. Don’t let those fools that have nothing better to do but post stupid comments, get you down, they are just jealous, keep doing this a lot of us appreciate you.
Great cuisine appears to be a result of procedure and elements, and NOT necessarily, the relative condition of utensils used. Fabulous presentation and now I can use your teaching to enjoy some great food. Thank you!
She is smart, u supposed to put foil on d stove, it really does make for easy clean up and help protect it. u hv no idea how many ppl do that still! Good vid, subscribed!
I love this video Reshmi!!! That is something all West Indians do I think! (Foil the stove)...This is tomatoes Choka done the old school way (the right way)...Keep it up! 👍🏽
looks soo yummy!!!! Just to add, whe we do our choka we roast the garlic and pepper in a separate foil. Then we mash everything together and chunkay with the onions. It adds more smoke flavour.
Thanks, yes that's also an option as well. I like to roast the garlic and pepper as well but sometimes when I roast the pepper, it burns my stomach. It's delicious either way :)
second comment on your stove girl I also have a new stove , and I keep foil on my all the time cause I don't like to clean all the time so nothing is wrong.
Yes we enjoying them videos.. 😬 I almost get a glimpse of home, family living close to grand bazaar, but you cut off right before lol. Try my favorite doubles man if you still in Trini for meeeee. R&R white stand outside price plaza in chaguanas. It's two young boys usual there. Thin nice bara, nuff Chana lol. Enjoy :)
Your mom is smart! Old or new stove, great idea. I should cover mine with foil when my husband is cooking. His food is amazing but the stove clean up I can't stand!
i think all we trini put foil on our stove tops. love this i roast mine if it dont have some chared bits its not choka. the roti too some chared bit here and there yummy that way. my son and our puppy hates the chared roti though. love this as always bye until next time
a quick trick is also, cutting up your tomatoes in a microwavable bowl, sticking it in the microwave for 5 mins, then mashing them up when it's done. In the meantime I'd be frying onions, garlic, bandhanya, and hot pepper in the oil, then i just throw it all in. I do add a few thin slices of raw onions in the end too :) Feeling for this now actually :)
I usually add everything together..garlic onion pepper ..after I have "stewed " the tomatoes on high...and the oil I use is olive oil ..then I re heat everything together on high for a 2 mins
Hey there. I see this is a few years old and maybe you got to know this already. The pan, you say isn't dirty, that oil "stains the pan" it's called Patina or seasoning :D And you Moms old stove
Mannnnn! I literally just came on RUclips and this is the first thing I see. I haven't even started watching the video. You're killing me😋 (BTW here's a little side info, your channel is the only one I post comments on. Geeze, and it's because of food. I might have a problem)
LMAO. Aye, I know the struggles. The stove in my apartment is abt 30yrs too. I had to use two bottles of CLR to get it looking decent. Cyah put foil on it because it's electric.
Don't apologize for your moms utensils or stove, she taught you now you're teaching us, thank you! you're amazing!!
Just cook, don't worry about comments.
Exactly. Same I was thinking. Forget about the negative comments. Do what you do, the tastiest food usually comes from a happy, well used pot 😊
Agreed
@@KayleAnnLeeCheeThat's right 😉
my stove got foil always and its 14 years old and it looks like new still .. so stove looks great and works great no need to get rid of it.. luv your mom style..
Yes my mom says the same thing. She had it since she got married and refuses to part with it lol
when we chonkey tomato when heating the oil add one garlic and a tablespoon of geera seeds and let it burn then add it too the tomatoes it's the best flavors and taste you'll ever experience.
Thanks for the tips, will try that! Sounds good
That’s the only way. Never seen anyone make tomato Choka without chunkaying garlic and geera.
Thanks for showing different ways to prepare the tomatoes
