This was probably mentioned in the comments already, but Edith Downes and her son do actually get a good ending to their story. Blackwater Ledger #75 (the last newspaper in the game) has an easily missed article where it's mentioned Edith and her son now own a popular golf course along with several other successful businesses out west, apparently having invested Arthur's money with great results!
Edith seemingly staying in Annesburg as a prostitute after you help her appears to just be a result of some dodgy quest flags allowing you to start and complete her quest out of sequence. I did it in the presumably intended order, so the cutscene with her entering the house with the john was the first time I saw Edith in Annesburg. Basically, that scene is supposed to be there to tell you Edith is in this town and make you go "oh shit, I hope I can help her out", but if you do things in the wrong order it accidentally serves as an ultra-bleak ending instead (I assume you still get the newspaper article, though).

He basically had to leave his entire life in Mexico, alone in the states and Dutch took him in. Hes an incredible character if you just watch his actions.

I felt like when Arthur found out he has tuberculosis, his priority was to protect the gang. And, then I think he wanted to bring Dutch back from the "dark side".
He knew he was dying, and wanted to see if he could save his friend.
That's the way I saw it anyway.
Also, Sadie, Charles, Arthur, Dutch, and Josea's characters were amazingly done imo.

    • @_infinity9239

I agree, aside from protecting his gang I would say his main priority was to do a little good before he dies (evidenced by the ability to refuse payments and starting to give money left and right to strangers).
He knew that no matter how much money he got he was still gonna die, so he probably reflected on his life and made it his mission to give his 'brother' (john) the life he could never get.

One of the things I almost completely forgot is there is a mission where you’re escaping from the army, going down a river in boats with Charles and Eagle Flies and after the ending cutscene Arthur is sat on a rock coughing and choking for around 50 second and there’s nothing you can do to end it early, you just have to sit there and watch Arthur pretty much decomposing. It was actually kind of distressing since you literally can’t do anything. It’s little things like that which really make you feel for Arthur, you see the down moments in which he’s living day to day life but knowing that the inevitable end is coming

Game is so immersive. Did not expect to like Morgan as much as Marston. I kind of hoped the game would do the switch when the sequel was announced, but did not realize how bummed I would be to see the character depart. Kudos to Rockstar for throwing in a long epilogue with the return of John Marston. Any other developer would probably sell it as DLC seeing how long the game already is.
On another note, the cast mention how GTA 4 is very hard to play now. They are correct to an extent, but what easily alleviates this is to unlock cheats on your phone and use the taxi if you don't feel like driving. After the game saves, the cheats will always be there for you to use for replenishing health or ammo. The game too went for a more realistic experience compared to previous game. Niko like Morgan are very fleshed out and probably Rockstar's deepest lead characters.

When I went to McFarlanes ranch there was someone stood outside John's shack. I greeted them and John said 'That's a nice place you've got there.'
Definitely not intentional but holy shit that's some foreshadowing.

I’m a fan of the old west and western movies and as soon as Arthur was told he had TB I knew then he was going to die. I also felt grateful that Rockstar gave us, I’m trying to find the right word, time to realize that Arthur was going to die, unless you don’t really know how serious TB is, especially back in those times. Sadder ending than RDR1. It really hit me when my horse died and Arthur took a minute to make sure that it died with comfort and said Thank you. I played dishonorable mostly so I got shot. But overall kinda liked the sorta Doc Holliday ending for Arthur. Gave us time to adjust that he was going to die than straight playing a mission and BAM he’s dead. It made it more meaningful in my opinion because I got to come to terms quick that he was going to die and I was actual grateful for that. Great game. Started my second play through as soon as the end credits ended and that ain’t no joke. Love this game. Favorite hands down. I honesty thought I gave him TB by not taking caring of him enough, and felt like shit for it for awhile lol. I know that’s not how it is but at the time that’s what I thought lol also I was thinking maybe they were going to let us play as Sadie after all of it but I thought it was neat that we can play as John that was my second guess

The one thing I hate about these discussions from these “Gamers” is that they’re job takes them away from the game too much. They just don’t know shit about the game really. They know what’s on the face of the story but I can tell they haven’t took the time to REALLY pay attention to the characters, read the notes, listen to conversation, do the stranger missions, and like REALLY DIVE into this game.

Theyve suffered heavily from having to hit deadlines. I finished the game yesterday (finished the epilogue anyway) and took a nice steady pace, not finishing every side quest but not actively avoiding them either. And you get so much of the back story and attachment to characters from the side missions, so much so that I felt like lennys death and dutch walking out on Arthur, only for eagal flies to save you was the two scenes with the most emotional impact for me.

Guarma was essentially in the game to demonstrate that no matter where the gang goes they'll be drawn into conflict. It's the narrative equivalent of smashing you over the head with the foreshadowing the gang's fate. The fact that Downes would keep coming up in the story, hearing that he had died from the disease, all leading up eventually to the end of the game. All the details. That the game world is in a dry spell until AFTER you're sick, and it starts raining and you're constantly getting wet, progressing the disease.

You have to sneak round the back of the tent, grab the stuff, wait for the guard who comes out of the tent to pass and retrace your steps back up the mountain. In my opinion the first redemption had the most compelling story ever told in a video game and I can not believe RDR2 possibly has beaten it on that front, graphically they improved on just about everything and and just those things increase the replay value dramatically. The only issues I have are minor details that have little or no impact on the experience at all. If they can manage to get the online right this game could just be the closest I ever gotten to playing the perfect game.

Maybe it’s because RDR1 will always have a special place in my heart, and it had the element of surprise while for RDR2 I already knew it was going to be superb. The Rains Falls mission of retrieving the items has a gold requirement of stealth in under 1 30 seconds. It's possible to do.
You head straight down the hill, there's a loose stone path to the left of the main path. You go down that and take out the guard patrolling that side of the camp. As long as you do that just about everyone in the camp is entirely oblivious to you even being there. Then you leave a similar way you came in.
pretty much the only people who will see you are the guards patroling
