@@JohnDoe-fv3vs True, but when you get past 65 or so, you have to be realistic and realize you have, even under the best of circumstances, little time left. I am there. You don't make long-term plans, you make tentative plans, and that changes everything about the way you think and function in life. It's nice to be able to be honest about that without upsetting younger people. It's a fact of life.

northofyou33 I don’t know if I agree, my Aunt is 85 & her husband is 90. He still works as an accountant everyday & continues to golf. My Gram lived to 100 & her sister was 107 when she passed & was still in her own home!!! Mark is keeping active by kayaking which I think keeps the body healthy. He may have be around for awhile yet.

It's so heartening to me to hear someone who knows and appreciates the nuances of silence. I live alone in mostly silence (no tv, but gotta' watch RUclips!), and the peace I feel from it is amazing. Sometimes I literally just stop and listen to it.

One of the reasons I prefer watching tiny houses through this channel is because of the conversations with the people. The experiences of these people as to why, how and when they began a sustainable or even simple lifestyle is so motivating. It encourages you to think what are a man's basic necessities to live a happy life ♥️

As we use to say in SF, Mark is a real renaissance man who "ain't scared." He has followed his bliss and made the community where he lives ALIVE. And ...he went to my alma mater, good old SF State College. In the 60's there were huge numbers of Marks everywhere checking out the human potential. Bless you Mark for the example you are: a real human being.

I grew up near San Francisco a. As I understand, both Robin Williams and Christopher Reeves performed in SF back in the day as mimes. I thank you for your comment and for it maki g me feel less silly about something like that. Cheers! 😀

Wow! I love the different style homes you visit Bryce, but, I've come to love the people and their stories just a little bit more. I watch over and over how you go into these ppl's refuge, their heart, their safety net, their home and you put them at ease immediately by complimenting their beautiful space. That really opens them up to telling us more than just the basics of their home. I love hearing how they got there, why they chose that type of home, and a little bit about themselves. I love it all. My only complaint, is they're not long enough. I could watch all day! I know this channel is a team effort, but ,I'm sorry, I don't know your girlfriend's name. Great job again. And thank you!!!!!💐🌠🌈🌠💐

I totally get the need for silence and all the good things it brings. After many years of working customer service, I don't want to see or hear people except for when I choose. The worst job I had was working the phones at a call center. People can get quite nasty and angry on the phones. Ugh. Now I live in a tiny A Frame overlooking a small lake and write. My life is my own and I finally call the shots.

This one hit home having lived about 14 years on houseboats in Sausalito. One floated half the time, so 2 x per day the home would creak and then we would be floating. Very special. His boat has the same paint colors as many of the old-timers' boats in Sausalito. Living on a houseboat is a really special experience. Not sure about all the climate change stuff, but it is very light on the land. Sleep & dreams are great. My kayak was my pony. Any strange thing that was floating & I would jump in to check it out. Bobbing is so peaceful. Wish you all could live on one at least once in your lives.

"Not sure about the climate change stuff"...?? So, eh, you are, I take it, a Geophysicist or Climatologist, an Atmospheric scientist, a Physical, Hydrological or Chemical Oceanographer, Meteorologist or...? Oh, wait! I think I know! You're just another typically uneducated person who, for some completely unfathomable reason -- most likely, though, having to do with the fact that, having had not even a day's worth of higher education, you have no concept of how much more than you, people who have completed years of intensive study of, and work in, their field of expertise, actually know; nor can you grasp the IMMENSE distance between the so-called "knowledge" you gain from your internet and/or wikipedia "research", and the facts gleaned, by experts, from actual research, combined with their years of learning -- thinks she knows more than every expert on the topic, along with absolutely every bit of relevant data that has been gathered, for the past 60 - 70 years. Also, you, apparently, don't keep up with either your local, OR world, news of the weather (nor, I'd venture what is probably a safe guess, do you keep abreast of the news, on any other topic, for that matter) ; and, it seems, if, in which case, is certainly not your "fault", you are young enough to remember, and/or know, that the weather over the past several years - in particular - is not only EXACTLY as the climate specialists/environmental scientists predicted it would be, but that it is, also, DEFINITELY NOTHING EVEN CLOSE TO "NORMAL" !
That's ok, though. There always has to be one, doesn't there? Still, sweetie, I certainly WISH you were right. Unfortunately, though.......

G'day Mark it's so nice to see sameone else that enjoys silence with a a lot of nature thrown in, in the back ground. Just living in perfection it's really nice not wanting much but the best is not needing much. Mark I wish you a long and happy retirement thank you for sharing your piece of heaven ✌🏻

This is my favorite episode so far, but then I've been looking into building a small houseboat with those polypropylene barrels for a while. I wish there was more information online on how to build something permanent. There are a lot of videos of people building docks with them, but they're usually just strapped on with rope or strips of metal, etc. The thing I really like about them is that there's usually no codes, permits, or regulations to keep you from building your dream home.

His calmness, kindness, honesty causes me to think, I need to just slow down a bit. Reflect. Stop even and just reassess what’s most important to me. An enigmatic gentleman with a beautiful outlook on life, both philosophical and and actual.
Should I ever be alone I would like to think I to would live this way.

For me this was a very inspirational voyage with you and Mark on his floating home. I really loved listening to this remarkable man. The solitude is something that I was really attracted to. A man can live alone yet never be lonely. Thanks a million Bryce - another AWESOME introduction to another person enjoying life on his terms. Take care my friend. ;)

What an incredible life... While Mark was shy...ended up going to Vietnam, went thru....and found mime to be solace and his life unfolded perfectly. To be ok with death is beautiful. Truly, I am as well and when you can be, life flies wherebitvis supposed to. So wish I could enjoy a piece of that heaven. 💞🤗

I am binging on these videos. I love thinking about down sizing and living on one level. Mark’s living is my second fave; my first is the New Zealanders wrapped house in town. Lovely and doable-no roughing it off grid.
Don’t read if you are sensitive about Vietnam Nam: I must say Marks mentioning VietNam took me back to an awful time. I’m glad mark had a choice and weathered the outcome so well. My bro in college had to do rotc, and commit to military after graduation. His take was either he went or some other young man would have to go in his place. He said he couldn’t have another’s life on his conscious. From 1959 we sent poor boys, many oo whomwere boys of color who didn’t have college or were not permitted deferments as was Bush and Trump. My bro was seriously injured-wheelchair, loss old fingers and hearing, died at51, an alcoholic after living with physical and mental pain for too many years.

He is totally content and that's the beauty of knowing who you are. I love his home and the solitude it brings him. I wasn't expecting his "death" answer, but I get his point. He's done what he wanted to do during the different stages of his life, now preparing for that final stage. Great video...TFS!
