  • Welcome to another edition of NBC's Open House! In this week's episode, our host Sara Host leads us through a series of mesmerizing home tours full of design inspiration - including a sunshine-filled getaway to a West Maui paradise and a breathtaking 13,000-square-foot Gilded Age mansion on the Upper East Side with a striking limestone façade, exquisite interiors, and serene garden.
We kick things off with a personal invite into the Tudor City abode of Cheryl Eisen, where luxury meets serenity - and where ‘Spider-Man 2’ was filmed! With its soaring 18ft ceilings (perfect for some quintessential Peter Parker web-swinging), breathtaking double-height entertaining area, sumptuous furnishings, walls of casement windows that wrap the space, and a cinematic terrace that captures the essence of New York with its crenelated walls, mythical stone grotesques, and views of the Chrysler building, this multilevel penthouse is a masterpiece of design as well as a reflection of the professional real estate stager’s effortless style and sophistication.
After that, we venture over an elegant brownstone in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where the brilliance of partners in design and life - Anna Polonsky & Fernando Aciar - shines through every detail. With a seamless balance of historic moldings and contemporary flair - and from the airy kitchen with its limestone countertop and hand-painted tiles to the colorful living room with its prominent arches, S-shaped shelving, and furniture created by Fernando - this fully renovated space (originally built in 1890) is a vibrant celebration of art, creativity, and family.
Next: Ready for a dreamy escape to paradise this weekend on ‘Open House’? The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua is calling! Join Tami Bernades, a senior sales executive, for a look around the resort's 54 acres of pristine beauty, delicious cuisine offerings, and to learn more about its unique amenities and local activities. Experience the wonder of West Maui’s lush natural landscape and a restorative blend of sunshine and tranquility at this luxurious destination, where every breathtaking view (including unobstructed vignettes of the Pacific Ocean and cascading orchids adorning dining spaces) is a postcard-worthy moment. Don't forget to bring your sunscreen!
We’re back in New York City with designer Daniel Ian Smith who took on a heartfelt challenge through this project: redesigning the Tribeca loft of his first boss in the city. And it's not just about aesthetics! From the playful yet functional foyer with its fun accent mirror and ample storage options achieved through a lowered ceiling to the living room with its exposed brick walls, hardwood factory floors, geometric rug and three-seater Vitra sofa with a shelf on the back to the bedroom (accessed through a passageway through the built-in bookcase) with its deep saturated colors, art deco pieces, and separate vestige-turned-reading nook, this cozy space blends modern refinement with classic charm and a hint of nostalgia - and serves as a testament to comfort and personal connection. Check out how he balanced intimate areas while preserving the home's original character to create a warm and inviting space.
Our final stop is at the Wales House in Lincoln, Massachusetts - a 1958 modernist home that was originally designed by Henry Hoover and Walter Hill and respectfully seeps into the natural topography surrounding it with an entry stairway that floats over existing glacial stone. Tasked with updating this mid-century modern space for a growing family, Flavin Architects duo Colin Flavin and Heather Souza focused on opening the interior of the home while incorporating innovative materials that honor the bones of the original architecture. Recent additions from this one-story renovation include a carport building, yoga studio with a wall of glass that opens into a sunlit courtyard, and main living area that embraces their firm's "natural modernism" design principles: open flow, ample light, and visual connection to the breathtaking landscape.

Surprised some of these designers are kinda mispronouncing other famous designer's names. It's Isamu (ee-SAH-mu) Noguchi and Saarinen (Sah-ruh-nuhn) for the dining table.

C’est impressionnant de voir comment les enquêteurs résolvent ces affaires. 👮‍♂
