- The data broker industry is out of control, but that doesn't mean there isn't something we can do about it! ➡️ Remove your personal information from the web at JoinDeleteMe.com/techlore and use code TECHLORE for 20% off, or get one of their international plans if you're outside the US: international.joindeleteme.com
Today I am detailing the automatic and manual method available for people to take more ownership of their data and prevent their data from being freely sold & shared. We cover discovery, removal/deletion, and of course prevention. Massive thanks to DeleteMe for partnering with us to make this information more widely available!

Major shoutout to DeleteMe for partnering with us on this video to educate people on how to fight back against the data broker industry! If you're in the automatic camp, you can get 20% off on their plans with code TECHLORE (JoinDeleteMe.com/techlore If you're in the manual camp then I'm wishing you luck on the journey-be patient, trust the process, and you'll see results!
Y’know, you really need to declare clearly this is a sponsored video.
You can skip this, it's a ten minute sponsored ad.
Fqcking insane that this is legal
Shouldn’t be!!
Share the word, everyone needs to do this. Obfuscation and corruption of the data is the best way.
It's almost impossible to alias your phone number anymore. Just about every service now a days checks if it's a VOIP number and doesn't allow you to use it if it is. I'm not sure how to deal with this, other than getting a burner phone, which doesn't really help that much since it's only one additional number and could still be easily linked to you.
Phone numbers are definitely a tough one!!
Great video! This helps a lot, and will use these tips. Thank you!
Hi Henry,
Is there services like that, that supports us Australians? Majority of the services you mention don't support people outside of USA. Cheers bud.
Regarding password manager, I use Bitwarden
Our cars are spying on us too, and they're a TROVE of info. Question for anyone who sees this:
Generally speaking, what is the best model year to optimize for privacy and modern features? Which "features" should I try to avoid? I'm guessing any models 2010 and newer are out?
You're right. Cars are sending info to LexisNexis.
Really good question!! Personally I’ve been taking a look at cars that used 3g because 3g is now mostly phased out. Meaning 2006-2012 may be general years to aim for
@@techlore exactly the kind of response I was looking for, thank you!! [Every time I do a search for this, there doesn't appear to be any comprehensive analysis, but cars seem like a HUGE weak link.]
The 3G point makes a lot of sense.
@@techlore The issue is that buying an older car will only buy you so many years before you're forced to buy a new one after that one breaks down. What then?
Personally, I would say the pros of having a newer vehicle that has a much lower chance of breaking down on you as soon as you buy it would outweigh the cons of being potentially spied on. I love privacy as much as any of us on this channel, but I also know just how frustrating it is to have an older car with older features that is prone to things breaking down, especially when it matters.
There is a typo on the link, an extra ")" leads to a 404
Thanks ❤️ fixed!
how does delete me handle catch all emails?
i use a catch all email, means every website i sign in has a different e mail address basically.
and in the past i used incognito or whatever it was called. but you were only able to give them one e mail address. so, not realy useful for me.
Thanks.
Good video keep it up.
Thanks!
What do you do when a data brokerage company doesn't comply with your request that they delete your data from their system? Bc it's technically not illegal for them to refuse your request in the US, right? What recourse do we have then?
Asking bc this happened to me, with the website/company "ZoomInfo" listing info/data that they've gleaned from my LinkedIn (an account I deleted months ago). Months and months after I requested that ZoomInfo take it down (and even sent a second request) and the page is still up for anyone with an internet connection to see
Curious why Fastmail isn’t listed under Aliasing services.
Are there any self-hosted options to do our own deleting functionality? Or Open Source options?
At the end of the day it requires a service/person needing access to your data. Open source in this context isn't a huge help. Example: You can open source your site but at the end of the day you're needing to see user data in order to submit it all. If you want more control of the process you should follow the manual steps outlined! That's almost the equivalent of 'self hosting' in this context.
I went through the big ass list and found my CV from 2015 on one of the websites..
Didn't expect that.
Good job finding it!
Interesting..
When a service wants a phone number for verification, do brokers now who is the real life owner of the number or is it just like the email to link data?
He's been quietly brainwashing us to use spreadsheets 😂❤
I'm very curious who's buying our data and what they're using it for.
Would there be a use for a deletion service for a person who never had an internet account, a mobile phone and a credit card?
I'm thinking of the kind of folks who just supply their employer with their SSN, have a driving license, utilitiy bills and a bank account for loans/savings etc.
Technically yes, because even if you didn't directly supply personal information someone else may have done so. For example, if someone used you as a reference on a job application, your information was supplied to another company.
Long time no see and suddenly came back with the best video
Aww thanks
So the whole video is an ad.
Pretty much. He's doing the same thing he did with the "3 Tips to Beating Big Tech" video, which was basically a Synology ad.
companies that automate this are part of the problem - it is not in their interest to actually fix the issue where it should be fixed - in the law... We are the goods and privacy is their market - they don't want it fixed
Does our brokered data include our identities? I've never received such targeted advertisement in the mail.
Any website that uses crappy AI images is a NO GO for me. Why you shilling this service ????????
Any business that uses crappy low budget ads is a NO GO for me. Don’t shill for your local hospital’s heart surgery department !!!!! 😂 (yeah, makes about as much sense)
You do understand 'DeleteMe' will be a major source of data broker data... :(
First video in a month and it’s just a sponsored ad that hasn’t been properly declared, encouraging you to hand data over to a third party while making the “manual” method sound laborious. The guy is cashing in now sadly.
Doesn’t DeleteMe benefit from the existence of data brokers?
maybe but i don’t think they are doing anything that benefits the data brokers or helps them exist in any way
I’d watch the interview I did with their CEO, specifically asked this and he said ideally they don’t exist.
Similar to how ideally Techlore doesn’t exist because there’s no need for digital rights resources when it’s a default?
If the service could end data brokers then you'd have a point but they can't.
It's like how firefighters don't benefit from the existence of House fires. They can fight them, they can advise on how to prevent them but they well never run out of business unfortunately.
This is nonsense. You don’t have a hope in hell of deleting your data online.
I miss youu techlore 🥲👍🏻
