I will always want a formal dining room for entertaining purposes. We had one growing up and used it for holidays and gatherings beyond just us and even though I am single and have no kids I would still want one to entertain (or to gather dust when I am not inviting anyone over:)).
When I was looking for my home, it was important for the layout to have a formal living room/dining room combo (great room) and a den. I live alone also, but I use the living/dining space for ladies night with my girls. It’s the perfect entertainment space! The den is where the tv is and used as my chill space.
I have a formal dining room, I live with my husband and 5 kids. We don't use it very often(barely ever) but it's the one space that I can fully decorate however I want and it stays clean!
I have an office/dining room. My desk is a table that we've used for Thanksgiving dinner. It's not a large house so we work with what we have.

I don't need a formal dining area. But I do need a large party table in the basement where we can formally gather and eat if we have to. I have small dining areas for quick eating, aesthetics and decor purposes.

I have had a formal dining and used it as such in the past. But I live in a state without any family (we are spread across the country). I used it maybe 10 times. In the house I purchased a few years ago (now single). I am not using it as a formal dining room. It's my chill and relax room for now. I want to make it into a library/bar (I don't drink but family/friends do). But trying to figure out how to do with my preferred style is challenging. I'll get there at some point.
Lol changing door hinges and handles is stress. Easy but stress. Lovely home! Kickplates tarnish but it takes a while if you’re not in a sun blazing facing location. We had kick plates at our townhome I renovated but sun blazing south facing 🤦🏽♀️. Can always flip to the other side ☺️. Happy I found your channel.
Love my dining room. Married with two young adult children. We do use it for game room in addition to holidays

I have a formal dining room, I mostly use it when family and friends come over. Keep in mind this is mostly every weekend so yes we use our formal dining room. It’s my husband, son, dog, and I living here. We use every coming area daily.
About the mirror on the bathroom you can always get decorative whether it be metal or frame picture frame make it from wood or you can make it look metal and put it up yourself you seem like a very creative young lady

I don't currently have a formal dinning room because I live in an apartment. But I do plan to have one when I buy a house. I grew up with formal dining rooms. Although we never really used it, it was always decorated and pretty!!!

Girl I also live alone. And I have a formal dining room. I use it alot. I set the table for dinner, for afternoon tea, with my tea and scones for myself. Make breakfast. I really enjoy eating at the table.
I'm in the process of purchasing my first home and plan on using the formal dining area for my home office. My parents have a formal dining room and use it a few times out of the year (2-3x)!. To me it's just wasted space...I want functionality in my space as much as possible.
I made my dining room into a wine/conversation room, complete with a wine rack, wine cooler, end tables and chairs because I don't have a large enough family to be having be having dinners and holidays in there. I wanted to just create an atmosphere to chill in and have a glass or two of wine and a little conversation with my friends.

We’re building a house and we are replacing the formal dining room area into a conversation/ sitting area, we eat at the kitchen counter for almost every meal and we have a breakfast nook so we definitely don’t need another dining area

Look into Frame My Mirror; I ordered one for my builder's-grade huge bathroom mirror. It makes a huge difference and you don't have to worry about taking it down!

First, so much respect that you took matters into your hands after having contractors who did a piece meal/shoddy job when you pay for good quality work. are you are willing to share your location? I ask because I am located in Albany, NY and cannot find contractors if my life depends on it. Also same thing when dealing with the big box stores as well. I am thinking this is universal for us. what are your thoughts? if you would like to share or can.

I live in an apartment right now but when I build my home I will not be including a formal dining room. I feel like it would just sit empty unless we had some sort of dinner party which is honestly almost never going to happen😂
Loving everything. For the dining room, if you're not feeling it, you don't have to do that, at least not now. I would personally do a seating area with some cool chairs, dope artwork on the walls, etc and a long coffee table that would compliment the chandelier. So when you have guests over it could be an informal space to eat, converse, sip a lil tea, lounge, etc.

I love all of the choices. I have the brass globe light in my dressing area. I have a casual dining room with a round table. I dont really use it but l do like it to look nice. I do live alone now that my son is away in college. I do need to purchase those solar exterior lights. I switched out all of my blinds to faux wood blinds and faucets to match all of the hardware that the previous owners installed during the renovations. Yes l live Florida too so l feel you on the hard water. I also have that paper towel holder.

I will be placing a table and dining chairs in my front room similar to yours only because I have a light colored couch in my family room and I really don’t want my children and grandchildren eating in my family room I see no reason in having two living rooms so the next option was to make it a complete dining room it won’t be formal but it will be a dining room I do have a small nook in the kitchen to eat everyday meals but it’s not big enough room for the eight of us when we are all together .

Growing up we had two living rooms. The front room was the one that wasn’t used much. It was the room that pop up visitors had to sit in… they weren’t allowed any further than there. That way we weren’t scrambling to straighten up the main family room and kitchen every time someone popped up unannounced😂

I'm interested in purchasing some items but I see mixed reviews about the company and there delivery fees are outrageous and people are saying they received used or damaged goods? But the other half says the couch and service was good.
