nice. i remember (as a Quebecois) looking at a map of the province and seeing that feature, not knowing what it was... it's quite beautiful to look and ponder at, and i'm glad we were able to make something useful out of it :).
You should grab a few friends, hop in your car and head there. It’s a beautiful spot with a nice campground and hotel right on the lake. If you’re one of the many many Quebecois who’ve joined the EV revolution fret not for there is not only a fast charger set a mere 95km south at the Manic 5 site, but there is now a solar powered 50kw charger AT the lake in Relais Gabriel, where an ornery but ultimately very nice little old lady will make you a tasty toasted jambon et fromage while you wait.
That's a huge reservoir! It seems like there are many great places to camp and see nature across Canada. I grew up near Detroit, where US citizens can drive south to get to the Canadian border. As a kid in the 1990's, I had school & family trips to various places in Ontario and always love to see Canada. Sad that I need a passport though I could get an enhanced license. My wife's ancestry is partly Quebecois so it's a topic of discussion at my in-laws. A lot of folks in the Great Lakes region and by the border in places like Vermont want our states to join Canada for the healthcare. Unfortunately your politics seem to be a menu of bad choices now as well... I focus my patriotism on average people and beautiful places.
that was a very interesting video that I left me thirsty for more knowledge my friend; it would be a great idea to follow up this video with a longer more in-depth dive of this beautiful crater
Side note, a new crater was recently confirmed along river Magpie, with lake Marsal in its center. You can google rhe lake's name. The structure, approximately 10km wide, is clearly visible, with a string of smaller lakes along the eastern depression. It was confirmed by geologist survey.
Good god…Kay-beck not kwa-beck. Just like Kay-so (queso) not kway-so. Que- is pretty much never pronounced the English qu- “kw” sound outside of English.
yeah that’s b.s, the fact that the image is classified means that it’s not an impact crater. It’s the site of a Bomb Test, like so many other craters in the U.S.
no, it was classified because in the 60s the US didn't want unfriendly countries to know we had satellite imagery, due to the implication for war surveillance. Its been declassified since this is now common technology. If you think for a minute that the damage from a bomb that big could already be so well eroded and covered in old growth peat, then your science teachers in school failed you. I wish you luck escaping the trap of conspiracy and becoming educated
Great Work Guys ❤
I thought USGS was just a guy that hikes a lot and leaves little markers at mountain summits. I guess he has a youtube channel too, nice
😂 That was great! Thank you for the laugh!
Fascinating! Thank you!

New life goal! I'll check if it's feasible with my friend who's a kayak trainer.

lol edit: This is an attempt at humor, right?
There’s always some conspiracy, theorist bullshit on every science page. In fact, that’s why I checked the comments.
I know Quebec wants to separate from Canada but this crater is in Quebec , Canada. Not any where in the U. S.
Nut bar.
