My father was a former Canadian Airborne staff sergeant, My mother was a war time nurse and my brother was a 2nd lieutenant in the Alberta Armored Regiment. I failed to join the military because of preexisting chronic lung condition (I had lung trauma in Jr High) and the CAF is very picky on who they recruit because their training is very harsh. No. I WOULD like Canada to have helicopter assault ships that can actually land troops ashore. A few years ago the VanDoos practiced it and then assaulted the Marines in NC and won. But a carrier? It would take every ship in our navy just to protect her. A carrier is the most protected ship in a fleet because it is the biggest target in the fleet. We can't afford that.... well, we could if the government would start selling our oil on the world market at real world prices.

Before I say anything, know that I am very very proud Canadian, ninth generation to be exact. Every single generation of my family joined in the Canadian military, and in our earlier years, we had a military that was world renowned, and quite powerful given our small population, but unfortunately much of that has changed over the past few decades, as military expenditures have decreased dramatically, leaving our brave men and women with outdated obsolete equipment, That doesn’t have a chance in hell of defending our country on its own without our allies help, whereas decades ago, we had a sizeable military, that could quite easily defend our country is interest without anyone else’s help. This video makes it look far more impressive than it truly is now, because of petty squabbling on Parliament Hill, our servicemen and women are lagging behind, far behind, countless other military’s, some from countries much poorer than Canada. I find it to be a national shame, that our idiot politicians bicker over money, when our national security is at stake! We are one of the wealthiest nations in the world, and we should have a military that reflects that wealth, having the most advanced military weapons available, not the broken down decades old equipment that we currently use. It is a national embarrassment, we only spend 1.5% of our GDP on our military, in a world that is tearing itself apart, we desperately need to upgrade to the most advanced military technology available, but no, our idiot politicians absolutely refuse to spend the money we need to defend our country against all enemies foreign or domestic. Traditionally we’ve always worked in a peacekeeping capacity, but we’ve also gone to war many times with our allies, and we still do to this day. But it’s hard to fight a war with equipment so outdated that your enemies are better armed than we are. It’s time our politicians grew a brain, and invested as much as they possibly can into our military, which is absolutely essential for our country survival in the future. I applied all members of our military, for their service and dedication, and I feel so sorry for them that they’re stuck with such antiquated technology, completely unable to fight back, and win. For decades, all our idiot politicians did, was fight back-and-forth over money, not wanting to spend the funds necessary to keep our country safe, are they insane? We are the second largest country by landmass in the world, yeah possess a military unable to defend 1/10 of it. We should easily be able to defend every single square inch of our territory without anyone’s help, and it’s high time our spineless politicians realized that, and actually made a commitment to our national security and defense. Instead of buying new vessels, they simply retrofit vessels that should’ve been decommissioned decades ago, resulting in a pathetic attempt at acting like a proper military organization. Our troops deserve better, arch country and our national security deserve better, so why the hell are the politicians hesitating at all and spending the money necessary to keep our country safe and truly free? It’s a national embarrassment, when 3rd world countries, have far more advanced weaponry than the Canadian Armed Forces does. How do you think that makes us look on the international stage? Russia and the United States are both gunning for our natural resources in the far north, yet we don’t even have enough military equipment to defend it, are they freaking crazy? I have no desire to start a war with any country, but I have a very powerful desire to have a military that’s capable of doing so should the need arise, because until then we are the laughingstock of the world! I think we have the 14th most powerful military, that is not acceptable for a country as wealthy as Canada. Our military should be one of the top in the world, and this time our leaders got off their asses, woke up to reality, and begin to find the military properly so that we can defend our country, and sleep soundly knowing that we don’t need any outside help to keep us safe! Our government should be ashamed of itself!

This video is well made but did not show enough of the only Trade that is gunned up and on patrol everyday (in Canada and overseas), serving those that serve. Need more on the Military Police working as CP, Air Marshals, Patrols, and NIS just to name a few.

I have questions, if any of you could answer itd be much appreciated as I'm just decision making as I'm in High School. Like can a NCM become CO. And let's say your in infantry can you transfer to a different trade for example, vehicle technician. Or mobile equipment operators.

Steen Pope Actually yes. You can change. Just follow this link: www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/policies-standards/defence-administrative-orders-directives/5000-series/5002/5002-10-commissioning-from-the-ranks-plan.html

You can change trades, but it's not a fast or simple process, can take years, especially if your trade is red. NCOs don't normally become COs in fact I've never heard of it, but you can commission from the ranks and become a officer, and then have opportunities to rise through the ranks as a officer.

The only really modern thing that our military currently fields is our tanks. With our current contingent of Leopard 2A6Ms and our involvement with the Germans in developing and upgrading to the 2A7 based on our experience in Afghanistan. Other than that, while our troops are well trained and strong of heart, the government has been letting them down on the gear front.

Yeah. Like Eagle Alphas. We would need modular nuclear engines though and no one seems willing to put nuclear powered engines onto aircraft, too risky I guess. In subs: ok; in the air: not so much, people are too scared of the technology. I do believe nuclear power could provide reliable (zero emission) power to bases and vehicles now. Having unlimited power for systems and propulsion would solve a lot of problems though. I sometimes wonder what all our universities are working on, if not solving problems. In the meantime, can we look at the XF-23 or an update to that model? The Americans didn't want it, but some say it was better than the XF-22.
