I agree with you, Piastri has quietly been mounting an incredible challenge for all the other drivers. No rookie right now even comes close to him and his mix of calm & mature attitude whilst still driving aggressively is rare (especially so early!). I am really looking forward to see how his career develops, we could be about to have a new title contender in the next few years...
@@GrizeldaOConnorRedBull even said they don’t know how Piastri was missed by them. I’m sure they will try and get him and will be chatting with Mark Webber in the not so distant future.
@@GrizeldaOConnor not hat near. hell stay with mclaren until at least (probably including) 26. they might have the fastest car right now (its difficult to tell because of perez) and if i were him id stay at mclaren for the first year of the new regs and see how well each team did instead of gambling.
One of Oscar's greatest strengths in my opinion is his ability to make incredibly close overtakes stick. He will make you think a crash is coming and keep it clean through the whole pass. And then suddenly he is ahead. He has zero fear and simply makes it happen. And it doesn't matter if he's on the inside or not. I think his wheel to wheel is possibly the best on the grid. He just needs to avoid those grid penalties in qualifying and he will be ready to fight Lando and Max.
I couldn't agree more with this. I raced at the same kart club when Oscar was a junior driver. He'd win pretty much everything, and his sidepods were pretty much always clean and free from marks. He'd just cleanly pass everyone with ease.
Having Mark Webber, a very level-headed driver himself, is probably one of the reasons why Piastri is maturing as he is. If Piastri can unlock a bit more natural race pace, he will be a very strong contender in the future.
I like Lando, but feel he’s too soft/immature sometimes. Oscar is probably my “favourite” driver, although that term is cretinous in itself imo. His calmness/maturity stands out for me too, both are great and really promising, but Oscar has the higher ceiling..for sure!
I don't think having a fav driver is silly by any means, after all they're human beings with different driving styles and personalities. I personally think having a fav team is instead pretty damn dumb. I may cheer for Ferrari because I'm Italian sure, but that's kind of an hobby: I only care about Fernando at the end of the day and that's been the case since he first joined F1.
@@John_Smith_ Yeah, it’s mainly the twitter lot that have ruined having a favourite driver. Reckon Fernando would do a better job in that Ferrari than Hamilton to be fair, still irks me that he never won a championship in one! 😂
Piastri reminds me of Raikkonen in his McLaren years, the biggest difference being that the Mercedes engine is actual reliable this time. Norris should be scared of him, even coming into the second half of this season, I reckon. I will say, McLaren have had the fastest car for a good few races, this year. Norris hasn't really been good enough, & I think he knows that. He even admitted that the McLaren was the fastest car in Spain.
I think the same about Piastri, just like Raikkonen he is doing a solid job with little experience under his belt (compared to his teammate) and has proven to be consistent and reliable for the team,he just goes, drives, gets a good place and leaves the job done, replacing Ricciardo with him was a really smart move.
idk about fastest car. id say the mclaren and red bull are tied over the entire race distance. the mclaren has lower tire deg, but seems to "struggle" a bit more with a full tank, giving the red bull an advantage in the early stages and the mclaren an advantage towards the end.
@@the4GIVENI agree the Red Bull can always pull a gap at the start, but then the McLaren always closes the gap at the end and is just as quick when in clean air.
If norris hasn't been good enough this season, then what does that make piastri? Sorry don't get me wrong he is a very good driver and still improving, but i haven't seen him fight max once this season while norris has been fighting him past these 5 races and norris beat sainz in qualy in his rookie season while he was already in his 5th season. It's 8-3in qualy and i think the same in the races this season not counting the sprints. Don't get me wrong he is in his 2nd season and he's still miles off norris and don't get me started on the mistakes in qualy.
In the last three races, Piastri has made huge steps in his tyre management, which has been biggest weakest to date that is all down to experience. I noticed the last two races, McLaren had Piastri go longer on first tyre stint, which has resulted in Piastri having significant more pace at the end of the race. Piastri has always been a natural quick driver and has the ability to do clean overtakes without crashing. Lando and Oscar have different driving styles, and after Lando win, I got the feeling that McLaren were setting up Oscar’s car based upon Lando’s car setup. This was highlighted at the Spanish GP, where Oscar never felt comfortable with the car. At the Austrian GP, due to being a Spirit weekend, McLaren probably had to initial go with a setup that they know that works for Oscar. Once Oscar was given a car that he was comfortable, his pace was back. It was a learning experience for McLaren as well, in getting the car setup right for Oscar.
You do realise that the driver is responsible for choosing their setup right? Stop blaming it on the car. His tyre management still sucks compared to Norris and he simply wasn’t fast in Spain.
It takes a driver about three to four years to fully get to grips with F1. If you compare Norris’s second season in F1 to that of Piastri’s second season to date, Piastri maturing at a faster rate than what Norris did.
@@manavkumar6590 you sound like a really good couch racer what you on about he won a race before Norris and was ahead of Norris in the championship for the first 5 races not to mention he is the only driver to have completed every lap this year and is only 44 points behind Norris and can overtake with the best of them all these things you would know if you had ever races open wheelers or were an actual F1 enthusiast but your clearly not another example he has been doing 5 to 6 extra laps on the first stints of racing and that’s why he is quick at the end he will be the next world champion after max

I'm new to F1 and after learning more about all the drivers, Piastri is definitely my favorite. Dude is so chill on the radio and only being on his 2nd year he shows so much potential.
Piastri was born a grown-up. He was settled, unfaced and professional in his first year, no reason to change that. He's won the first race (sprint) for McLaren and got a pad on the shoulder while they did a hero's welcome in Woking for Lando when he was gifted a race win by a pollard. Once Piastri improves his quali times, he'll be a force to be reckoned with and all the love for Lando will fall out of the window next season.

@@timotejbogsa1216 Never said Norris wasn’t good enough though his mistakes cost him at least a win and he wasn’t able to overtake Piastri in the Sprint either. That says more about Lando than Piastri. Piastri drives 1.5 season and already right behind Lando.
@@timotejbogsa1216that’s a silly statement look how good Piastri is 1 and a bit years into his F1 career compared to Norris at the same stage no comparison and as a couch racer I highly doubt you actually know what your talking about Oscar will be a world champion before norris I would put 50 k on it Norris is an egotistical emotional self centred brat and Oscar is going to blow his candle out before the end of this season
@myslavi9500 if you want to bet, I'm down because if it 8-3 in qualy and 8-3 in the races excluding the sprints and piastri isn't a rookie no more and is still on average 2 tenths slower in the qualys and 3 tenths slower in the races then im pretty confident lando will be champion before piastri, because we have all seen lando fighting max for half the season and piastri hasn't even come close yet to fighting max in a car thats arguably on par with red bull.
@myslavi9500 i am willing to bet 1k on lando beating piastri this season, but i bet you won't accept this because you're just talking out your rear and too scared to look at the facts first
Piastri isn't particularly exciting at press conferences etc because he doesnt bring drama to the scene but in terms of his driving he is getting more exciting over time.
His maturity and how strong and capable he already mentally and emotionally is, is exciting. Maybe it flies over your head but almost everyone recognise it.
I think webber has a lot to do with his cool head. He would keep his expectations tempered and his feet firmly on the ground In contrast, Lando has been told for years that he's the future world champion and one of the most talented drivers regardless of results
I'm pretty sure that Oscar said something similar to this, around the lines of that Webber prepared him for the pressure f1 brings and that a cooler head is better then a heavy head
Piastri is one of the smoothest rookies I’ve ever seen. Calm, mature, quick to learn, fast, makes few mistakes. You forget it’s his second season. He’ll be catching up to Lando by next year I feel.
Piastri will get snapped up by one of Redbull, Mercedes or Ferrari once he has a couple of seasons in the top 3 and if McLaren dont make him their priority. If Max goes to Mercedes in 2026 I see Oscar as the driver Horner would most likely target imo. Piastri has been fairly unlucky this year and should be sitting on around 140-150 points which is not far behind Lando. On the other hand Lando has been rather lucky except for Austria, but to give him his due has performed well on the most part. The advantage Lando has is tyre wear but once Piastri catches up with a bit more experience I see Lando getting regularly beaten most weekends by Oscar. Would be interesting to see how Lando deals with it if that scenario presented itself. I think Oscar will be a completely different driver once he gets a couple of wins under his belt this season.
‘Getting regularly beaten’ Based on what exactly? Piastri was 70 points behind Norris before Austria. The qualifying h2h is 8-3 and the race h2h is 8-2. The gap in race pace between Norris and Piastri hasn’t decreased at all since last season…so there’s no evidence whatsoever to suggest Piastri will beat Norris ‘regularly’. It’s only happened 7 times in 33 races 😂😂😂
Oh, what an amazing channel I just found! I, as Lando's number 1 fan, agree with everything you said! Lando needs to mature and understand that he is no longer a teenager.
Oscar is very calm, imo that gives him an “advantage” bc it lets him survive under pressure. One other thing is that while Lando wears his heart on his sleeve Oscar doesn’t. All in all they are both very good drivers, and both could win a championship, maybe even fight each other for one in the near future.
Norris is mostly just running on the high of winning his first grand prix and hungry for more. As much as he says he didn't care about the "no-win Lando" rep prior to his win, I'm sure he's ready and keen to get on about his business of winning more races (cracking the seal, so to speak). From day one in F1, Piastri has always exuded a calm and assuredness that seemed beyond his years. I wouldn't call Piastri more mature or maturing faster. It's a matter of different pressures and stages of their careers.
Do you think Piastri going straight through the levels in motor racing very quickly before F1 and winning them all would have put him under pressure? or maybe because he moved up so fast, he didn't have time to notice the perceived pressure around him.
Confidence is the factor here, I think. I personally believe Piastri drives a lot more confidently than Lando. I feel like Lando cracks a lot more when under the weight of pressure and desperation.
It’s actually crazy how quick he’s developed this year. At the start of the season, he was still very much like last year… super quick, but couldn’t quite keep his car/tires working across a whole race. But after a few races, it’s like it suddenly clicked for him, and now he’s coming on scary fast
I hope and think that Oscar will go beyond Norris in no time. Norris seems more like ''the new Daniel Ricciardo'' and not ''the next World Champion''. Oscar on the other hand has a MATURE attitude, nerves of steel and just has a vibe that makes you go ''Yeah, I can see you get numerous victories in the future and maybe a title''. That's just my opinion of course ✌
daniel ricciardo wasn't making mistakes at his peak. not at any point during 2014-2018. most of his wins after from outside top 5. he doesn't bottle poles, or good races. ricciardo was very much mature, lando is nowhere near prime ricciardo. he can't even pull off divebombs in his 6th year
@@P_FamilyJARYou don’t know that, this is the first season Norris has ever had a race-winning car 😂 Norris is clearly a much better qualifier than prime Ricciardo
Oscar is incredible. Even last year, I could totally see him as a future world champion. He got the talent and definitely got something great in his attitude. You could tell bro is onto something special. I could see both of them as a champion but if I had to choose between them I would choose Oscar and that's insane because the guy doesn't even have a race win yet lmao.
This video nails it. Before the 2026 regulation changes, 2025 represents a real opportunity for Norris. However, if he thinks Max is his only threat, he is not seeing what is happening around him. He needs a cooler head and to stop listening to the British press.
Sometimes it seems that the British dominated F1 media is a huge burden for young British drivers. The weight of expectations and the dumb questions from the breakfast TV mob is a huge distraction and Lando appears to be the least equipped to deal with it, tries so hard to be nice, and he is a nice kid, not like a grown man yet. I expect him to improve every year for the next 5 years or more.
today was so unlucky with the pitstop and McLaren not choosing to double stack, he was challenging Norris - lost around 15 seconds to staying out and then managed to get p4 in the end anyways
Exactly he was faster than Norris in Silverstone. He also made Norris, George and 7th wdc Hamilton look like rookies during that fase in the wet. That was some Senna moment.
I'm old school and have been a Mclaren fan since Senna. Actually before that but Senna has meaning. The pairing of Norris and Piastri are the best pairing Mclaren have had since forever. IMO. Two exciting young drivers that are four years apart in age, three years apart in experience and worlds apart in personality and personal growth. I won't enter the debate with the airchair experts, suffice it to say bring on the racing because that is all that matters to a true F1 fan. Leave the BS where it belongs. Just quietly GO OSCAR!!! 🤣😂🤣😂

@myslavi9500 how am i hating i am just telling the truth, but some of you delulu piastri fans don't seem to see it. if you look at the facts and not out your rear end, you can pretty easily look up lap averages, and piastri was, on average, 2 tenths slower than lando not to mention lando was figting max for 5 laps until they made contact. I think you need to look at the bigger picture and not just look at piastri the whole race.
@@manavkumar6590 and Piastri wasn’t managing come on doesn’t matter what your doing managing or not is someone who has worst tire management is matching times and quicker at rimes of the race then he must have been quicker you would probly understand this if you had actually raced an open wheeler cause I know that when I was racing formula 3000 when I was quicker then someone it generally meant I was quicker so what you say makes no sense max and lando should be quicker through every part of a race with the extra 4 and 5 years extra experience they have you watch next year Oscar will be the man to catch and even by the end of this year he will have won a race or two he was the first McLaren driver to win a race in almost 15 years before Lando did and he will be doing it on the regular not to mention he is the only driver in the whole grid to complete every lap this season
I don't think Piastri is maturing faster than Norris, I think he's already way more mature than Norris. As in, he's just got that mature type of personality. Even in his first year he was one of the most mature and responsible drivers on the grid. I've only ever seen Oscar act brash once, and that was when Carlos basically took him out of the race in Miami and he was driving really angrily to get back into the points. As Andrea Stella has said many times, Oscar seems to have an old head on young shoulders.
George bottles it under pressure & makes to many mistakes like Charles. Oscar is closer to Max, Lewis or Fernando than the rest are. I see Oscar beating Lando next season onwards.
The amount of time George & Charles has been in F1 they make far too many mistakes. George at Singapore for example chasing Carlos, hitting Fernando in Australia or Charles crashing at Baku, Austria, or like Imola last year chasing perez. I realize George stepped up into a tractor of a Merc and that Charles has a handicap with strategies & Ferrari engineers but they just don't seem to have progressed or matured into being near a champion... If Lewis goes to Ferrari next year & can beat Charles early in the year... Watch Charles implode. He is a nearly man like Massa.
You can’t be serious right? 😂😂😂 Norris and Leclerc are MUCH better drivers than Piastri. He has a LONG way to go before he matches those two in performance. Norris is literally beating Piastri 8-3 in qualifying and 8-2 in races 💀 As for Russell, he is mistake prone…but he’s also dominating a 7-time world champion this season. Piastri is not on his level.
George, Leclerc, Norris, they all fall under pressure and are prone to mistakes. Mentally they are not able to fight a whole season long for a championship as we see now with Norris who after a few races already threw away wins and is breaking down emotionally and mentally. Piastri has already surpassed them in those area's. He is WDC material
@@OnlineHipHopTV Piastri is flat out slower than Leclerc, Norris and Russell so he clearly isn’t WDC material - doesn’t have the speed. Verstappen won on DEBUT for Red Bull in his second season. No excuses there 😂
great video again! I´d say, that Hülkenberg also got some more light on himself by doing that last lap move onto Perez with letting him through before the drs line. I know, he is already established with over a decade of experience, but i think the newer fans can see him differently now
Norris does seem to lose all composure In these race winning situations I'm not a Lewis fan but look how well he dealt with the 2021 title fight with max and in reality did enough to win the championship just got really unlucky with the end 😂
Oscar is literally behaving like a long time veteran in the sport, but is actually one of the youngest and having the least amount of experience. It's a very very rare quality nowadays, especially in racing where almost everyone is a hothead.
People don't give Lando enough credit, he might act goofy off the race track BUT he is probably one of the most focused competitive drivers on it. He's only crime and it's a good one is that he doesn't celebrate second place or those moments when deep down he knows he could have won.
What I'll say regarding the crash is everyone needs to see the helicopter shot of it. On boards tell nothing. And yes, Oscar is more mature. A future world champion ❤
Lando and maturity? Yeah, the post-race interview said it all... pathetically crying into the microphone how he "may have some respect for Max again if he only admits to being stupid." Now, that'll be a cold day in hell. After the incident Max remained cool as a cucumber, carefully nursing his car into the pits to "salvage" P5 while Lando, devoid of any rationality, kept on racing as if nothing had happened, wrecking floor and suspension of his car in the process... the difference between a champion and an eejit,
I think that if you take outright experience out of it, Piastri was more complete than Norris last year. He has the pace, he has the head, he's very very rapidly learning from the experience he's getting and he's likely going to be on par with Norris by seasons end, in my opinion. He is still learning tyre management, but even at a high deg track like the RBR, he was keeping on top of it quite well. His slip up in quali was unusual for him, and on track Norris doesn't pass him on merit often (it seems to be a team choice often), but Norris has slightly better race pace (though that gap is getting smaller each race). Piastri will get a couple of race wins by seasons end, if McLaren don't fuck the car.
‘Norris doesn’t pass him on merit’ Yeah, that doesn’t change the fact that he’s MUCH faster. If team orders are being issued, it’s because one driver is clearly a lot faster than the other. ‘Norris has slightly better race pace’ No, Norris has WAY better race pace. The gap in race pace this season is close to 3 tenths. Over a 50 lap race, that equates to 15 seconds. Piastri hasn’t made any progress in race pace relative to Norris since last season. You also said the gap in race pace is getting smaller? Ironically enough, Piastri was actually CLOSER to Norris in race pace over the first two rounds than he has been in any race since then. The gap hasn’t decreased; it’s increased. Norris is improving as well.
This is what I've been saying for a while. Lando is just really fast and is great on his tyres. In terms of outright pace in both quali and race, he's one of the fastest on the grid and his tyre management is second to none. However, he still comes across as a touch immature, selfish and entitled. His "privileged rich kid" upbringing and personality really comes through at times and he seems to have a rather stereotypical social media influencer/streamer personality. He seems to act like McLaren is "Team Lando" and that Oscar is just... there. Like Lando used to be an only child who receives all the attention and then upstart Oscar comes along like a new baby taking away some of that attention and now Lando has to share, but he really doesn't like it. The only reason why Lando is cooperating with Oscar and sharing data is because Oscar is useful to Lando and McLaren in helping them get faster. Lando is trying to use Oscar as a stepping stone to further success. And then there's the races: he seems to easily get jilted and upset when the racing gets tough and things aren't going his way easily, and especially when his teammate is challenging him. I mean he even said that Max shouldn't have fought him so hard and cede to the overtake attempt because he's 80 or so points ahead in the championship so it shouldn't matter to him. When there's a sniff of a victory or pole position or beating Max, he gets complete tunnel vision and reverts back to being a rookie driver, driving like he's in F2 again. Everything is thrown by the wayside and in those moments he lacks a lot of race IQ, race craft or even presence of mind. He feels he is entitled to that race victory and position over Max in Austria. People give George a lot of stick for that kind of mentality (undeservedly so) but I'd argue Lando is way worse. Oscar on the other hand is the new upstart in the team. Despite Oscar being only 18 months into his F1 career and Lando being 6 years, and despite Lando entering into his prime and being at the peak of his pace and performance, Oscar is only a fraction off of Lando's outright pace (in quali). Yes Oscar is more of a way's off of Lando's race pace and tyre management, but again 18 months vs 6 years experience (with a McLaren in F1 with Pirelli tyres). It's taken Lando years to get where he is in terms of race pace and tyre management. Oscar is steadily catching up and in terms of quali pace just needs to make that final step. However, what Oscar has right now over Lando is race IQ, race craft and maturity. Oscar has even likened himself to Prost (rather than Senna).
His tyre management isn’t ‘second to none’. Max and Lewis are both better at managing their tyres. Lando does excel in that department though, that’s why Piastri looks so mediocre in races. He’s actually fairly good at tyre management for a second year driver, it’s just that his teammate is one of the best so he tends to look worse alongside him.
I think your right about a possible future Norris and Piastri rivalry, Piastri had a much more impressive junior career and seems to have better qualifying and race pace. Most of his issue are related to tire degradation which is something change able. Norris has a tendency to have things really get to his head so it would not be surprising to see him do worse or act more erratically in the next few races, Piastri could easily gain from this and cause tension in the Mclaren garage.
Pretty much everything you’ve said is factually incorrect. Race pace IS tyre management. So Piastri’s gap to Norris in race pace is reflective of his simple lack of pace…he can’t maintain good pace over the course of a race. Norris is still a better qualifier. He is winning the qualifying h2h battle 8-3. It’s not close. Piastri won 3 junior championships; Norris won 5. Clearly Norris had the better junior career.
What evidence is there to suggest Piastri has ‘better’ qualifying pace and ‘better’ race pace? He’s losing the qualifying h2h 23-10 and the race h2h 25-7 😂
@@manavkumar6590 looking further into the topic I agree that Norris does have better qualifying times but I do think that Piastri does better in qualifying than in the main race and his qualifyings are much more impressive when taking into account formula one experience. I think that race pace and tire deg are different though because race pace is based on things like where a driver brakes, what gear they are in, and their line through the corner. Tire degradation is how much a tire degrades and while tire degradation is largely changed by driving style it is also changed by the patience the driver shows for example warming up a tire, late vs early braking, and dirty air. This means that these thing are tied together but not necessarily the same meaning that a driver can have good pace but have tires that fall off more quickly, race pace has little correlation with tire deg. Piastri is bad at managing tire degradation because he is a relatively new driver and in the lower formula series the races are shorter, formula 2 and 3 the d to be about half the race distance meaning at tracks where f1 drivers only do one stop the f2 and 3 driver have half the tire wear. I think because of this my former point still stands that Piastri may soon be close to Norris in races because tire degradation is an issue that can be changed by patience and some driving style.
I have to agree about Oscar being the better potential package, but I find his pace compare to Lando a bit worrying. i expected Oscar to close the gap more by now in terms of race pace given he now has 1.5 seasons under his belt. Last weekend showed as well the difference between Max and Lando. I think Lando is a great guy but his interview compare to Max's sums up how difficult of a challenge Lando has in front of him in Max and Red Bull. Lando talks about Max being desperate; that it is up to Max to apologise; potentially losing respect, whereas Max says that they will talk about it when things calm down a bit. I guess it will be interesting to follow how Lando develops from his battle with Max because even yesterday it showed that Max in the battle is a step above Lando and when both were limping to the pits one driver destroyed his whole car by going too fast to the pits and therefore 0 points, while the other drove quite slowly with the wheel on the rim to the pits and finished fith.
I think you're expecting too much from someone who's only 18 months into their F1 career. It's also worth remembering that Lando is one of the fastest drivers on the grid, and his race pace and tyre management is one of the best. Only the likes of Max, Lewis and Alonso are better. Lando is far faster now than he was 18 months into his F1 career. It's taken years of hard work for Lando to get where he is now on race pace and tyre management. 6 years of experience in McLaren, in F1, with Pirelli tyres. Why are you expecting a rookie to have reached Lando's level already after 1 year and a bit?
Oscar stepped into a car that Ricciardo could not drive and Sainz said was "difficult". I was very impressed with his first season. This season the pace and tire management has been a bit worse than I expected, but I saw no problems in the race in Austria. He is still slower than Lando I think, but his racecraft (passing) is better. Some of his overtakes on Sunday were first class. I also think he is a better starter than Lando.
@@RockSolitude i don't expect Oscar reaching Lando's level in 1.5 season, that is you twisting my words. I expected Oscar to have made a bigger step than he has done now. Especially during high deg races the pace difference has been a lot and in my opinion I expected that to be less than it is now. He is rookie F3 champion into rookie F2 champion, so there is a certain amount of expectation unlike a Zhou or Sargeant. He doesn't need to match as I already said but I expected him to struggle less in his second season than he does.
@@PaulinBGC Do you know if his times at Austria were comparable or matching with Lando? Because he indeed seemed to have a good race but the spotlight wasn't on him.
@@optyfen5276 Not sure. George Russell was at least 20 seconds behind Max & Lando before the crash. So Oscar was probably about 25 seconds behind Max & Lando at that time. I don't think that either Oscar or George was gaining on Max & Lando, even though the front two were fighting and going off track. But I believe Oscar was consistently faster than everybody else. I am used to seeing Oscar being pressured and passed by Ferrari and Mercedes towards the end of each race, but that definitely did not happen here. Will see what happens at Silverstone.
I’m an Aussie and that will only make Piastri stronger and more determined. It’s in our nature to not care about what people say if anything we use it as fuel to do better look at the ashes england gave us the ashes and we been giving them a flogging ever since lol
I moved to Australia last year and the national character is pretty straight up and resilient. No cry babies. Oscar isn't fazed by media perception - look how he handled the disappointment of Silverstone - on top of all the bad luck he's had this season.
I do wonder why Lando was so overeager, to the point where Max said ‘that’s not how to overtake’. I mean, three tries and three times off, that’s a clear indicator you’re doing things wrong. Max used to be a bad boy but he never did that. A donkey, in general, doesn’t butthead a rock twice, is a saying we have. Oscar may have stuff to learn yet, technical and tactical stuff, but he’s being mature about it. Lando’s learning curve is the emotional one. Being feisty doesn’t work. If you wanna beat Max, keep him in the pressure cooker until he bursts. Don’t go pinpricking, you’ll just hurt yourself.
Reading their personalities a d temperaments same as you. I am super behind Oscar a driver a highly intelligent practical well balanced person. Good humored as well. Doesn't get freaked out.

Mclaren had the most downforce compared to the redbull , with dirty air there was never a chance to have enough traction to overtake through t4 unless max went defensive in t3 (which he did ,just before they made contact).Max also knows to not go defensive in t3 as that would give lando an easy chance .hence when he did go defensive he tried to open the corner but over did it .I dont think lando was fiesty , he did 3 lunges .i would say if max was unable to overtake through t4 , he would do the same and send in t3 and try to block the other guy to get a better exit . Max wont crack under pressure , lando knows how hard it is to stay in dirty air and not slide ur tyres .Getting ahead early on and letting max sit in the dirty air is definitely better
@lostmind24 good analysis. Really nice to see a mature post at this time. I think Norris had few options to overtake Max. Maybe that was his fault. So "dive bombing" it is which as far as I know is perfectly legal and fair as long as you don't hit the guy you're trying to pass. I thought Lando was getting himself worked up to a fault. Although I understand we only get team radio snippets. Ultimately though, I believe Max moved unnecessarily to the left with the apparent intent of blocking Landos entry and potential overtaking move. It was Max's move that caused the collision. He received a penalty which as far as I could see was deserved and arguably more deserving than other similar penalties ( Nico Hulkenberg eg). I do think Lando needs to calm down. I also think some of the narrative needs to be calmed down too. Although I suspect some commercial interests are loving the wind up.
@@sbGOM he needs too and has always been calm when driving /excluding radios.he probably dint want to lose another win ,everyone saying missed wins doesnt help
People say that Max shouldn't criticize dive bombs because he used to do them back in his pre-champion days is ridiculous. They always said that Verstappen should mature more and/or grow up and actually stop being desperate, but he wouldn't have won anything without driving the wheels of those rb cars, and then when Norris does the same moves even when he had the faster car and was in a track with long ass drs straights they say it was Max's fault. Like come on, the dude was thrust into f1 at 17 of course he isn't gonna be mature in battling and he won his title at 24 which is about the same age most drivers wise up and actually hit their prime. Also to the lulu heads saying that Max spammed divebombs like Norris' to win the title, Lewis also did just bolt and cut the corner whenever Max tried it so I think it's fair.
Everyone complains when it happens to them, but never when they do it. It's just how it is. Max does not lose the right to complain coz he used to do the same.
From the beginning piastri already act like an adult, really mature with his comment in and out of track. He's really smart in racing and like very tactical approach not just speed alone. Just like gentleman Jim Clark but still need work on his tyre management. As soon he's sorted it out I believe lando will get much of headache fighting piastri
Norris and Piastri are both developing really well, on pure one lap pace they are very close to one another. Over a full race I still feel Norris is the better driver atm, but Piastri is looking better and better. Exiting times for the McLaren team 🔥
What I don't understand is why should the other drivers have to take seconds from drivers like VER/ SCH. If Max raced himself, we know how that has turned out each time a driver said "I'm no longer going to yield to him".
Piastri has always been a cool character, and is way ahead of Norris in maturity. The biggest risk to Piastri career is his involvement with team McLaren.
Max was mature enough to defend against a faster car and forcing Lando to uncontrolled dive boms and track limits, and extended his lead to NOR and LEC by 10 points. Unlike Piastri, Lando had a disastrous weekend, threw away his sprint and binned his race. And Lando showing he was fully emotional, shows he is not ready for any title race yet ......... just like the british press and fans. Max already voiced he doesnt care how the brits view him, just like Alonso, Schumacher and Senna, who openly dispised the british press, shit-stirring and fans. I think the way the British press is acting, is creating hate ..... but I guess that sells papers and clicks.
‘Faster car’ The McLaren was not faster. It only seemed faster because Norris had fresher tyres. Verstappen also damaged his tyres on the outlap. Red Bull were so obviously the fastest car in Austria 😂
@@timotejbogsa1216Isn't what their saying. Lando isn't much of a challenge for Max because of how easily it is to get in his head. To get into Oscar's head is going to be way harder.
Based on what? Norris is still FAR better in races, he’s winning the qualifying h2h 8-3 and the race h2h 8-2. The gap in race pace between the two drivers has only INCREASED since last season. Piastri has a LONG way to go before he even MATCHES Norris, leave alone beats him 😂
@@freew0rrld If casuals like you weren’t always wrong about everything you say - and actually understood the sport - I wouldn’t be saying anything. Understand cupcake? Need me to dumb it down?
Piastri is quietly becoming the new Alain Prost. I like it. Norris might be a smidge quicker right now, but he sounds and acts like a teenage girl at times.
Whatever manifested in 2021, it did rekindle my enthusiasm for watching Formula 1 again after decades. Though I still feel very proud of fellow dutch Max and enjoy the CheStappen marketing things, ever since last year the McLaren team really is becoming my favourite team and much to do with that breath of fresh Oz air called Oscar Piastri!
I recognize I'm in the minority on this, so I fully expect to be slated here, but something about some of this and the comments triggers me. (1) I don't think it is fair to say that Lando doesn't come out of this in a good light. I think it's quite the opposite. For the last year or so, one of the narratives around Lando was this unfair portrayal of him as a push over when it comes to fighting Max. This incident was a "line in the sand" type moment where he showed he'll stand his ground and give as good as he gets when it comes to fighting Max in near equal cars. This is the only way you can fight Max. Lando legitimately had Max rattled. The late (and dirty) moving under braking and frantic radio messages made Max seem desperate. I think this will be confidence boosting for Lando. I really don't expect this to become a big thing and generally think the uproar now is quite overblown. Lando is smart enough to adjust now that he's experienced first hand the ends to which Max is (illegally IMO) willing to go to win. I think Lando is mature (yes, mature) enough to not make this a regular occurrence. (2) I absolutely hate the amount of psychoanalysis "experts" attempt to conduct on a driver's psyche and their potential based on nothing more than carefully selected radio message replays during a race or social media crafted personas. People also seem to mix up personality/character traits with maturity. Oscar seems a quieter, dry-witted, more serious type of character. Lando a more youthful, outgoing, joking character. That DOESN'T make Lando less mature. I think they are both extremely mature. They have to be in order to handle all the stresses of the job. Oscar and Lando both are tremendous talents and I have no idea who is going to end up with the better career and neither do any of these supposed experts in this comment section. At this point in time, Lando is the better all around driver- superior race pace, very fast in qualifying, better tire management and incredible consistency. With how solid McLaren are as a team, and how inexperienced Oscar is, he is going to have every opportunity to get to Lando's level or potentially exceed in all those areas.. At the same time, Lando is not the finished product either. I think he's taken big steps from last year in terms of race management and consistency in qualifying. He's now, for the first time, learning to race against Max and learn what it means to fight for wins on the regular which is the next skill he'll have to develop, and he is. Oscar will have to do the same, and it would not surprise me one bit if Oscar didn't have a "line in the sand" moment with Max before the end of the year just like Lando did, because that seems to be the only way to race Max. Bottom line, I think people are too quick to discount Lando because of his personality and popularity. As a McLaren fan, I'm so glad these two are on my favorite team.
8:14 yeah I absolutely agree. People love to see drivers act like best mates but there’s such an awkwardness to their pr content. Oscar seems almost self conscious in a lot of the silly games they do, doesn’t put on a show as much as someone like lando or Daniel would. Lando doesn’t know what to do with this and makes even more jokes and teases Oscar a bit and it’s just incredibly awkward 😂 such a small thing that isn’t on either driver but it seems like they don’t have as strong of a friendship as the team likes to portray. That’s fine as long as they can work together well but if Oscar and lando find themselves racing each other more closely it could get interesting. Compare the pr videos of them to previous pairings and you can see how uncomfortable they are together (lando and Daniel, Oscar and Logan)
I like Oscar but if you can't beat you're teammate consistently then you will not be prioritized simple as that. Beating Lando once in every 4 or 5 races is not enough of course he still learning but the biggest challenge for Oscar is that Lando is also very fast and incredibly consistent.
I think Lando could be the perfect teammate for young Oscar… Good enough to show him some of the things he needs to know, and still making enough errors to show him things he SHOULDN’T do… like messing up race starts, or indecision around tire strategies
Lando blames everyone else, Oscar looks within himself. I think your analysis is spot on Oscar is just calm, perhaps Lando needs a bit of Oscar and Oscar needs a bit of Lando.
He’s already more mature than Lando by a long way. Year 2 comparison: Lando 1 podium (a 4th that became a 3rd in his second year after Lewis got a penalty that dropped him down) vs 4 podiums for Oscar and he still hasn’t finished his second year. Yes, the car is better, but the racecraft at the same stage of his experience is far superior. Imagine how good Piastri will be with the same number of races completed as Lando has now.
Incredibly unfair to compare the 2nd year purely on number of points, podiums, etc given how vastly different the competitiveness of the 2019/20 and 2023/24 cars are. Best measure would be head-to-head comparison to teammates. You can determine for yourself how comparable you think Lando and Carlos are, but its a good comparison to make because both were in their 5th year of F1 when Lando/Oscar arrived so same experience level. I could even argue Oscar was better prepared to start F1 than Lando given he was a couple years older and had more extensive simulator/testing experience from his year out with Alpine. The facts suggest Lando achieved way more than you're giving him credit for and was comfortably ahead of where Piastri is at the moment. Qual Head-to-Head 2019: 10-8 Sainz 2020: 9-8 Norris Overall: 18-17 Sainz (so Norris ahead 49% of the time) 2023: 15-7 Norris 2024: 9-2 Norris (so far) Overall: 24-9 Norris (so Piastri ahead 26% of the time) Race Head-to-Head 2019: 13-8 Sainz 2020: 9-8 Norris Overall: 21-17 Sainz (so Norris ahead 45% of the time) 2023: 17-5 Norris 2024: 8-3 Norris (so far) Overall: 25-8 Norris (so Piastri ahead 23% of the time) Source: www.formula1points.com
@@brandonhollis9882 While I agree that the way the comment above talks about it is also a bit faulty. So are head to head comparisons. Since they fully rely on the drivers included to be on similar skill level. Albon for example would be compared with Max while Lando would be with Carlos. Max being the better driver between him and Carlos would automatically make it seem like Albon was worse then Lando because he couldn't outdrive his teammate. However something like that would be totally unreasonable. In this case for head to head comparisons to be actually a reasonable comparison it would take Lando to be at the experience level Sainz was back when he was a rookie and for the cars to be the same. Since you're going to see the experience level way better between the better cars.
@@ChiIIi...You can only beat whoever is put in the other car. Sainz was a 5th year driver in 2019; Norris was a 5th year driver in 2023. That’s about as even a comparison as you’d get. Piastri in 2023 was certainly not more impressive than Norris in 2019.
Lando has been loyal to Mclaren for years, patiently waiting for the car to be mighty! Oscar has been fortunate to almost instantly get a seat with a winning car! Now we need a winning team/statagy - There is only so much control a driver has over race results!
Sometimes i feel like i have to step back and remind myself how impressive Oscar is for his 2nd season. He has a similar if not higher pace ceiling than Lando given we've seen Oscar beat him, he needs to improve consistancy and he still has some work to do on tyredeg. But for me personally, everything about where Lando is at maturity wise showed not only after the race in the interviews, but also after they made contact. Max right away knew what to do and nursed the car home to avoid damage, where as Lando tried to push and get past Max right away and effectively shredding up his own car and in a way ruining his own chances of points. If he came into the pits 5 or even 10 seconds later than Max but was able to keep going, he would have probably gotten atleast a P7, but given he was so desperate to get ahead after they touched he got no points
The stupidity of your first paragraph is astounding. He has a ‘higher’ pace ceiling than Norris because he beats him once in a blue moon? Surrrreeeee buddy, and I guess Stroll has a ‘higher ceiling’ than Alonso for the same reason 😂😂😂 Piastri is losing the qualifying h2h battle 8-3. He’s losing the race h2h battle 8-2. The gap in race pace between both drivers has NOT decreased since last season; if anything, it’s increased. There is literally NO evidence whatsoever to suggest that Piastri has a ‘higher pace ceiling’.

@@manavkumar6590 Well if you think it's irrelevant are you really the guy that should look at data? We've seen alot of potential from Oscar, and i've never said Oscar is a better driver than Lando who's currently in his prime. Then ontop of that you add that it's his 2nd season and his career building towards F1. Yes i think it's very fair to say he has a higher pace peak that he can possibly reach compared to Lando. Lando has spent seasons reaching and refining his peak, Oscar has just started. Completely agree with all of this. Been thinking the same thing. Oscar is far more in control of his emotions and doesn't have the petty trait I think Norris has. Norris has a jealous and sulky side to his personality. I think if we see Piastri start to outshine him even more, then we will see a darker jealous side of Norris that he wont be able to hide from the public.

Oscar is the type of drivers that could gets ahead of you without you even realizing
Having Mark Webber, a very level-headed driver himself, is probably one of the reasons why Piastri is maturing as he is. If Piastri can unlock a bit more natural race pace, he will be a very strong contender in the future.

So true
You do realise that the driver is responsible for choosing their setup right? Stop blaming it on the car. His tyre management still sucks compared to Norris and he simply wasn’t fast in Spain.
It takes a driver about three to four years to fully get to grips with F1. If you compare Norris’s second season in F1 to that of Piastri’s second season to date, Piastri maturing at a faster rate than what Norris did.

I am a Max Fan, but Piastri will be Max greatest threat in the near future. He is more matured then Lando.
Yes I see Oscar being head hunted fairly soon especially if he begins challenging petulant Lady Lando

Exactly. He seems obsessed with max now. It was visible even in canada
Confidence is the factor here, I think. I personally believe Piastri drives a lot more confidently than Lando. I feel like Lando cracks a lot more when under the weight of pressure and desperation.
@@antiwokehuman I guess he has to
@@roguescorner9042like piastri cracks in qualy?
All you have to do is listen to lando's team radio for a single race to understand his character
Hungry? Determined?
That's just my opinion of course ✌
daniel ricciardo wasn't making mistakes at his peak. not at any point during 2014-2018. most of his wins after from outside top 5. he doesn't bottle poles, or good races. ricciardo was very much mature, lando is nowhere near prime ricciardo. he can't even pull off divebombs in his 6th year
I don’t think Lando will have as many wins as Daniel though, Daniel at his peak was a far better driver.
Just a correction; Lando is only 2 years older than Oscar (Oscar turned 23 in April and Lando will turn 25 in November.) 😄
4 years apart in experience I thought 2019 and 2023 I’m pretty sure that’s four years unless my maths is bad

OP is only in his second season and now has multiple podiums and wins. LN has been in F1 since 2019. Oh boy this is getting good.
George bottles it under pressure & makes to many mistakes like Charles.
Oscar is closer to Max, Lewis or Fernando than the rest are.
I see Oscar beating Lando next season onwards.
Could not agree more 👍 I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees that in Russell and Charlie.
Norris is literally beating Piastri 8-3 in qualifying and 8-2 in races 💀
As for Russell, he is mistake prone…but he’s also dominating a 7-time world champion this season.
@@OnlineHipHopTV Piastri is flat out slower than Leclerc, Norris and Russell so he clearly isn’t WDC material - doesn’t have the speed.

great video again! I´d say, that Hülkenberg also got some more light on himself by doing that last lap move onto Perez with letting him through before the drs line. I know, he is already established with over a decade of experience, but i think the newer fans can see him differently now
Yes Oscar is mature and he shows that in his Interviews with his level headedness where Lando is always sookin and almost crying..

But Max hard race Lando: all hell breaks loose
Norris gives out petulant child vibes.

Norris does seem to lose all composure In these race winning situations I'm not a Lewis fan but look how well he dealt with the 2021 title fight with max and in reality did enough to win the championship just got really unlucky with the end 😂
@@zachbishop5421 he's fine, he's biding his time with Max
Oscar is literally behaving like a long time veteran in the sport, but is actually one of the youngest and having the least amount of experience. It's a very very rare quality nowadays, especially in racing where almost everyone is a hothead.
For some reason I think this driver pairing is similar to Williams’s early 2000s pairing with JP Montoya and Ralf Schumacher.
Back after Spa to say YES!
PIA will IMHO be ahead of NOR next year
Oscar was more mature than Lando long before he got in an F1 car. Wouldnt be hard really.
After Baku this isn’t even a question.
Lando and maturity? Yeah, the post-race interview said it all... pathetically crying into the microphone how he "may have some respect for Max again if he only admits to being stupid." Now, that'll be a cold day in hell.
After the incident Max remained cool as a cucumber, carefully nursing his car into the pits to "salvage" P5 while Lando, devoid of any rationality, kept on racing as if nothing had happened, wrecking floor and suspension of his car in the process... the difference between a champion and an eejit,
Max, cool as a cucumber while trying to drive Lando into the grass and block him at every attempt? Ok, sure.
@brandonhollis9882 please read the comment again, that isn't what he was saying like at all
I think that if you take outright experience out of it, Piastri was more complete than Norris last year.
Silly question OP is more mature then most of the Grid. He just lacks the experience. His demeanor is exactly what you want in a Driver of his talent.
When he's been compared to Prost and Räikkönen and he takes inspiration from Senna you know he will be unstoppable when the time comes
Well said!
It probably helps that Oscar also has Mark right there by his side to also guide him
This is what I've been saying for a while.
My thoughts exactly 😊
His tyre management isn’t ‘second to none’. Max and Lewis are both better at managing their tyres. Lando does excel in that department though, that’s why Piastri looks so mediocre in races. He’s actually fairly good at tyre management for a second year driver, it’s just that his teammate is one of the best so he tends to look worse alongside him.
I think from the start Oscar is always more mature than almost everyone the entire grid
Hungary was the perfect display of Lando's lacking maturity
@@manavkumar6590 also I have 8 likes on my comment and you have none so think about that
I'd like to see him get a win this season
I would too
I have to agree about Oscar being the better potential package, but I find his pace compare to Lando a bit worrying. i expected Oscar to close the gap more by now in terms of race pace given he now has 1.5 seasons under his belt.
He is tremendously talented, and being constantly adversely impacted by his team's lack of experience as a competitive team.
The one thing that might get in Oscars way is tbe British biassed in F1 media. Lando will always be the medias choice.
So true
Lando has admitted to dealing self confidence issues in the past so maybe that's a possible reason.
Reading their personalities a d temperaments same as you. I am super behind Oscar a driver a highly intelligent practical well balanced person. Good humored as well. Doesn't get freaked out.
1. Lando tries to go for it , max moves late nearly causing a collision.Lando avoids max
2.Lando goes for it and again max moves a bit .Lando misses the corner and lets max through
3.Lando goes for it again , stops perfectly at the apex and max. overtakes off track
4.Lando tries to go in t4 , doesnt have enough overspeed
5.Lando sticks to the outside as max chose the inside line .max moves over and makes contact with lando.
Oscar going to be a world champion. Lando only if he gets lucky..
Lando isn’t a top tear racer he is a great driver but he ain’t no racer
From the beginning piastri already act like an adult, really mature with his comment in and out of track. He's really smart in racing and like very tactical approach not just speed alone. Just like gentleman Jim Clark but still need work on his tyre management. As soon he's sorted it out I believe lando will get much of headache fighting piastri
- NGL , PS3 has an old soul . He is seldom fazed by whatever whenever things go wrong for him .
Norris and Piastri are both developing really well, on pure one lap pace they are very close to one another. Over a full race I still feel Norris is the better driver atm, but Piastri is looking better and better. Exiting times for the McLaren team 🔥

Piastri is very stoic
…. “Don’t want make any difficult decisions regarding their drivers”. I think they can handle it just fine…. Oh wait… they did what!?! 😂
What I don't understand is why should the other drivers have to take seconds from drivers like VER/ SCH. If Max raced himself, we know how that has turned out each time a driver said "I'm no longer going to yield to him".
Oscar was born more mature than lando 😅
Excellent dissertation
‘Faster car’ The McLaren was not faster. It only seemed faster because Norris had fresher tyres. Verstappen also damaged his tyres on the outlap. Red Bull were so obviously the fastest car in Austria 😂

Been on the Oscar wagon for abt three years now #letsgo81
Oscar P is gon be great he does have a hell of a car for a 2nd year driver tho
This this is the truth
I think Lando could be the perfect teammate for young Oscar… Good enough to show him some of the things he needs to know, and still making enough errors to show him things he SHOULDN’T do… like messing up race starts, or indecision around tire strategies
Lando blames everyone else, Oscar looks within himself. I think your analysis is spot on Oscar is just calm, perhaps Lando needs a bit of Oscar and Oscar needs a bit of Lando.
You've obviously never seen a Lando post-race interview. He is incredibly hard on himself and does very vocally and publicly.
Qual Head-to-Head
2019: 10-8 Sainz
2020: 9-8 Norris
Overall: 18-17 Sainz (so Norris ahead 49% of the time)
2023: 15-7 Norris
2024: 9-2 Norris (so far)
Overall: 24-9 Norris (so Piastri ahead 26% of the time)
Race Head-to-Head
2019: 13-8 Sainz
2020: 9-8 Norris
Overall: 21-17 Sainz (so Norris ahead 45% of the time)
2023: 17-5 Norris
2024: 8-3 Norris (so far)
Overall: 25-8 Norris (so Piastri ahead 23% of the time)

Yes he is ,Norris still needs to grow up!
Lando has been loyal to Mclaren for years, patiently waiting for the car to be mighty!
Oscar has been fortunate to almost instantly get a seat with a winning car!
Now we need a winning team/statagy - There is only so much control a driver has over race results!
Thank you for explaining it so well.
Surrrreeeee buddy, and I guess Stroll has a ‘higher ceiling’ than Alonso for the same reason 😂😂😂
Piastri is losing the qualifying h2h battle 8-3. He’s losing the race h2h battle 8-2. The gap in race pace between both drivers has NOT decreased since last season; if anything, it’s increased. There is literally NO evidence whatsoever to suggest that Piastri has a ‘higher pace ceiling’.
@@manavkumar6590 If the H2H is all the data you look at i dont really think you should dip your toes much into this. 2nd, if you want to actually say your opinions to people, approach with respect ffs. No one will care what you say if you dont approach someone with common decency lol, even if you come with good and detailed facts no one will care
@@BlissifiedHH Look at the average gap in race pace. Look at the average gap in qualifying pace. They all point towards Norris being superior - the gap in race pace hasn’t decreased between Norris and Piastri since last season; if anything it’s increased.
Here’s a challenge for you, Mr. Brainlet; how about you try presenting a SINGLE piece of data which PROVES Piastri is faster than Norris or has a ‘higher pace ceiling’ than Norris. Any time Piastri has outqualified Norris; it’s been by a few milliseconds. That is irrelevant and in no way suggests Piastri is or ever will be faster 😂
@@BlissifiedHH What other relevant data is there to look at champion? Do you have enough braincells to understand race data? Because if you did, you’d know that every set of data showcasing the pace of both drivers PROVES that Norris is the better driver.
@@manavkumar6590 Well if you think it's irrelevant are you really the guy that should look at data? We've seen alot of potential from Oscar, and i've never said Oscar is a better driver than Lando who's currently in his prime. If you look at what Oscar has done already in the sport, how he's kept up well and beaten Lando who again is in the best form of his life right now and could argubly be considered a top 5 maybe even top 3 driver on the grid rn depending who you ask, managing to beat him consistantly enough to where it's not a fluke. Then ontop of that you add that it's his 2nd season and his career building towards F1. Yes i think it's very fair to say he has a higher pace peak that he can possibly reach compared to Lando. Lando has spent seasons reaching and refining his peak, Oscar has just started.
And again, you can't even come on here and bring points with common decency which just makes you look bad and it invalidates everything you say to alot of people. If you cant even approach a comment level headed and mature why should anyone bother hearing you out?
Completely agree with all of this. Been thinking the same thing. Oscar is far more in control of his emotions and doesn't have the petty trait I think Norris has. Norris has a jealous and sulky side to his personality. I think if we see Piastri start to outshine him even more, then we will see a darker jealous side of Norris that he wont be able to hide from the public.
piastri is fast and mature. crazy to think he's still in his sophomore year. mclaren better treat this guy better.
Oscar might be in his 2nd season but he is more mature and has a real good mind set and moves on after a race, he’s a quiet achiever which I love and could be Lando’s greatest threat for years to come.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
not a lando fan , but as a 3 times WC max should have ended up winning that race , letting lando kill his tires
Well, he did end up killing his tire ;)
