- By some estimates, more than 6,000 languages are spoken around the world - but half of them could disappear by the end of this century. In Peru, Indigenous communities in the Amazon are working to preserve their languages.

I always felt like more languages should be taught in public schools than just European ones. We should definitely offer indigenous languages but also the languages of the people who reside in respective neighborhoods.

It’s a shame when parents don’t pass on their native language to their children. I have friends whose parents speak Arabic, Hindi, German, and Vietnamese, but they don’t. What a shame and waste.
The problem is that since the most spoken languages in Latin American countries are European (Spanish & Portuguese) just like the case of Peru, native languages are often left behind (idk if this is the correct term eng isn’t my first language lol) and consequently indigenous people are forced to leave their culture and traditions behind because there’s no use of it. Not only that but also I’d say the main reason why is because historically, indigenous languages have been repressed ever since colonialism was a thing lol so yeah and even to this day indigenous ppl face discrimination in Peru and pretty much everywhere?? Lol

you can save it but you will never speak it or sing it. Stop learning a new way, then having kids that can't ever speak to their grandparents. YES that happens. My ex was like this.... No Spanish. Had to learn by force when he was left there for a month i think

More people speak Chinese, though. The only thing preventing you from that is they didn't let half the nation move out easily can legally move to other nations and m,ake job where you need to speak it. XD
