      One of my friends are severely gluten free like onetime she had a few Pringles thinking they were gluten free because most chips are and she ended up in the hospital for a few days. She has to have special lunches at school and onetime they forgot to make her something so they told her to have a salad that day and one of the rude lunch ladies limited her on her salad. She literally had like 5 pieces of lettuce and the lady yelled at her and is like “that’s enough”. It was a very stupid situation so her and I picked up food after school. Most of our lunch ladies are very nice but that one is so rude.

    Meanwhile in Sweden schools can’t charge for anything you’d need to go to school. Lunch is free, school trips are free etc. Because school is mandatory to attend so it has to be free.

    • @tovekauppi1616
      @tovekauppi1616 2 года назад +35

      @hitchins dawkins lol having services provided free of charge from the government isn’t communism. Sweden is actually a highly individualistic country (it generally ranks really high in self actualisation, much higher than the US for example), we’re far from communist. Do you also think that public roads are communism? You pay nothing specific to walk on the pavement, it’s simply a service that the government uses tax money for.

    American but I had a cafeteria with a ton of students and when the trays were stacked at the end theyd always be wonky and sometimes still with trash and stuff.
    It bothered me a bunch so I always fixed them so they were stacked neatly with all the trash thrown away. One of the cafeteria ladies noticed me doing it and was so grateful (she was like in her 70’s, and it made her job much easier to have them all neat like that)
    From then on whenever I was done fixing the trays and she was coming to pick them up, she’d be ready with like four or five of our crappy little cookies that I loved. A lot of the time I brought them to my next class and I’d share them with the people next to me.
    I made plenty of friends that way, and it honestly was one of the more bearable parts of what was honestly a crappy time in my life

    I used to be a kitchen manager at a middle school, it was the best job in the world. So many sweet middle schoolers, broke my heart to have to leave (cancer, the daily hugs would've killed me with germs). There were a few boys who didn't eat because their parents wouldn't fill out the forms and we couldn't do it for them. After catching them watching us we sat down and talked to them. They didn't even get food at home, their little siblings didn't go to school so they stole food. The rest of the time I was there they had every leftover they wanted to take home. On Fridays we would empty their bags of school stuff they didn't need and packed them to the brim with foods and juice and milk for their family. At Thanksgiving and Christmas they got food and gifts from all of us. Still miss those boys, they'd be young adults now 💛

    I went from a school where students were publicly shamed for not having $$ on their lunch account to a school with a lunch lady like this one, she worked cause she could, not cause she had to, so *ALL* the $$ she got from being a lunch lady went to kids that needed it, I didn't qualify for reduced lunches, but there was ZERO way I could get school lunch, it was hard to just keep the fridge stocked most weeks, so I was often eating cold left overs, so her and a teacher paid for my school lunches all year so i could have hot food, and now 10+ years later i still remember them both and everything they did for me and the other students and I'll never not be thankful

    Every school should have a Dotty!

    During the summer, the dinnerladies would put on a deal that was “with any other purchase, you can have a free bottle of water, and we will swap any empty throwaway bottles for a full one”
    They would also have mini cupcakes for around 10p so that it counts as a purchase, and then someone can get water easily.

    This video made me cry! I bawled. I’ve been the child that was turned away because I didn’t have the money on my lunch account. I’ve had the principal pay for my lunch before. I’m a grown adult now and it’s been 20 plus years since that happened and I STILL remember the embarrassment

    Last school I worked in before I had to retire, was in a high poverty area and the SLT instructed the dinner staff to do this and flag up to pastoral staff any kids who didn’t have enough to pay. Then we could find out if parents had just forgotten to top up or if they were struggling to pay and see if they qualified for FSM or other help. That way the students weren’t embarrassed and still got a meal and we could find out families who were struggling and hadn’t let the school know. Many times were would find out they’d lost a job or similar and didn’t know what they could apply for benefits wise and we worked closely with organisations like the CAB and food banks. Hate the idea of any kid being embarrassed in the lunch queue that they don’t have enough money or going without because of it. Hope all schools do similar, it’s not hard and makes the world of difference!

    At our school we can just go into the negatives (I have actually seen -£78 which is one of the downsides) and our parents top it up to make sure it's all paid at the end of each week
