Numbers 4 and 5 are definitely 100% true. As someone who grew up in Cyprus, it is one of the reasons I am looking to move to another country. Also why this country is not moving forward. A bonus reason is the fact that you ABSOLUTELY need a car to move around, public transportation is pretty much non-existent.
The winter sports centre at Troodos is run by the Royal Air Force but it is open to anybody, Passports, ID cards not needed. Public transport is limited. Otherwise our host speaks good sense.
Great points Rico! You nailed them. I lived there many years ago and it appears these, I guess you can say negative issues, are still apparent. Nothing has changed! Planning in April after the winter, to move there permanently. Will look forward to your future blogs.
Hey Andrew, yes, but many things changed, so you can definitely look forward to moving back here. Cyprus is happy to have you again soon! The videos will continue.🙂
All 5 reasons are on point and completely accurate. As a Cypriot, I could ad another 50 reasons on why no one should move here. I love my country, but it is what it is.
I just left Florida, and a lot of the same things go on there, they are late, we even start our Yoga class late, because it is laid back. In Texas and Missouri doors were locked after class started. I am now in Cyprus, it is different, and everyone said, RELAX……. I AM definitely more about on time, and when I checked in late at a hotel, and no one was there🤷♀️?.. but they showed up later😂😂😂I hear you Rico🙌🏻
I don’t think there is a lot of nature . You have nature next to Paphos and also at Troodos . Most of the Coast line is very commercial , with Hotels, night clubs and bars . They have a lot of history though .
Good, very good video! If you are from Denmark or Nederland, or as you Germany... these 5 points could be important, but for me, pure relaxation. The only local habit, which I do not understand is trashing. Surprise me everyday.
Absolutely, I personally also don't really care about those 5 points, but maybe some people do. And trashing is something I could've said as well, good point! Hope all is well with you and the family. :)
Your information on cyprus is all correct .I lived there from uk 🇬🇧 88 to 97 now back to UK. I found paphos was very slow in work and basically everything. I lived in Nicosia which was good for work .also good on time like electric s and mechanics. Limassol also busy in the winter and Nicosia. But comparing Cyprus to bigger richer countries. Cyprus does very well ,dont forget 1974 Cyprus took a good beating by turkish Invasion loads of people got killed women and children raped the island was in economical brake down .
In Europe , there seems to be more perceived accuracy because they view everything like a commodity and not for its sacred aesthetics... In Australia every mechanic rips you off, while the Cypriot who usually has higher morale values than the west, values a relationship more on affiliation than commercial exploitation

Oh yes. I always say, I have to adapt here. 😊 But the mindset you mentioned at point 4, e.g. when it coemes to online orders is probably the hardest thing to adapt. Especially if you are a very efficency driven type. Sometimes you learn 2 weeks after you ordered that something, or many things are not in stock, have to call endles times, and never get the promised call back etc. Really a struggle. If you compare the usual one day delivery in Germany. With all the work to cetch up and 2-5 weeks to just get your stuff. This lead me to believe, that because of that most people will likely drive by or know people to do such things instesd of having things delivered 😄 Definately someting to get used to... In addition, also because it is an island I assume, it is really something to adjust, that the range of available products is so limited here. I never considered what a luxury it was back then to search for any item or service imaginable e.g. on amazon, getting 100 variations of even niche products and having it 1 day later. Compared to not finding it at all. I could buy a car from the amount of money I spent on delivery cost from Germany to Cyprus until this point 😅 That said, I never regreted the Decision to move here. But definately need to find a trustworthy sitter for 6 cats, since I miss the Reeperbahn regarding action and would like to visit it again. Lived there for 15 years. Which might be starkest contrast to Cyprus imaginable. 😉
Thanks for agreeing. Just last week I ordered something and I had the exact same problem as you described. 2 days later I wanted to follow up and no one knew about my order. Sometimes it's really frustrating, but also funny at the same time, because I really don't understand why this is happening, haha!

What if you have some capital and would like to live in Cyprus and live off your savings. Can you also become a tax resident and have social insurance in Cyprus in this way?
Hey, yes, this is true for some public places and also for older buildings. However, I personally throw toilet paper into the toilet, as our sewage pipes are strong. It always depends on the building. :)
Thanks Rico, I enjoy all the information given in your videos about living in Cyprus. I am planning to retire next year in Cyprus due to the favourable tax situation. Hey Kim, yes, some procedures already can be started beforehand. Send me an email if you want so that I can help you with your situation individually. Have a nice day.
I will gave an additional that might forgot to mention, and this is also for non EU or third country who wants to relocate here in Cyprus. 6. How medieval the immigration system and how frustrating to book an online appointment to Civil Registry Immigration Office, So as a non EU or an EU family member of EU national that relocate here in Cyprus and want to have a resident permit, unfortunately you will consume your 30 days to 90 days allowed stay until your visa expired before you even get a booking, those greedy private Immigration lawyer and agency can charge you 800 to 1500 euro and up if you book to them, which really it only cost 20 euro if you do it by yourself and if you are lucky enough to have the appointment. 7. There are more jobs in Limassol district and if you are lucky enough to be paid atleast net 1200 if you work on Forex, but the rentals of the house in limmasol are 850 to 1200 euro and up if you want a livable and closer to your work, unless you want to live on the villages which also stuck you on the traffic going downtown and also faraway from supermarket or essential needs. So the salary is not even enough to pay utilities and food, unless you want to share house with someone, but if you are looking for long term, you must think about it many times before deciding. 8. Small or local businesses or establishment or fastfood etc, they pay them a salary of 450 euro and up per month depending on position or company, i know that mostly they gave this job to a third national which is bigger amount to their country if converted, but they also need to spend to live here, so it's really low incomparison of the salary from other EU country, so these kind of salary you can do the math regards the rent, utilities and essential needs. 9. There are no public train or metro in Cyprus, and the only public transportation which is a Bus are few and unpredictable, it's nearly impossible to move around without owning a car unless you have all the means to use a metered taxi. These are not purposely discouragement, but a reality that most of vloggers need to mention more, and i admire that Rico also share his unpleasant experience, so viewers can see the whole scenario of living here in this beautiful island.

This content is made for foreigners that will move to Cyprus, not to Cypriots. And its not that serious, the evaluation will be different for a foreigner than a local. Also, every place have positives and negatives, there is no perfect place.
Tenerife spanish island has the best climate in Europe, not Cyprus. Cyprus is very hot, dry and dusty , the air is many villages, towns polluted. I don't recommend Cyprus at all, it's very expensive , many products have bad quality and are very expensive ,the pharmacies are much more expensivethan in Germany and the things they sell don't have the best quality. Maybe as a tourist it's good to relax at the beach in Protaras or Ayia Napa for two weeks because the beaches are beautiful , but to live in Cyprus is expensive and the quality of life is not so good I think , many people smoke here too much, the cities and villages aren't really modern and impressive compared for example to spanish or italian cities. This is my opinion, others may not agree.
