" […] Master and student, fusion as rarely, demonstrated a subtle balance of voices often melted into one. With a humble posture and a symmetrical economy of means, their fine lyricism and discreet pathos (La Nuit,… l'Amour) inhabited an intense and seductive dialogue, nevertheless capable of darkness until the funeral (Les Larmes) , using everywhere a delicate palette of shades. Before the final peal of bells and its haunting ostinato (Easter)where the two performers released all their energy. Muted and never flashy energy, which we found from the Introduction of the Second Suite. [..]

[…] Once again Babayan and Trifonov, as worthy heirs of the illustrious elder whom they honored, demonstrated an exceptional osmosis, an unaffected sensuality and a dazzling digital and poetic mastery, concluding the whole thing with a transcription of the adagio from his second symphony."

"The monographic recital given by Danill Trifonov and his former teacher Sergei Babayan reveals a darker Rachmaninov than usual. Opposing in sound but united in a very mastered conception, the duo plays with a virtuosity which leaves nothing to chance and is never gratuitous.
[…] the duettists really seem to speak the same language, that of the youngest. […]
They particularly highlight the incessant harmonic changes like so many grazing lights on a dark matter. The effect is striking, and we completely forget the original piece in front of this brilliant recreation.
In a generous encore, the duo offers a transcription (presumably in Babayan's hand) of a large extract from the Adagio of Symphony No. 2 : a more consensually melodic Rachmaninoff."

"[...] the stools reversed, the two artists can return for Suite no. 2 opus 17, this time with the young Russian on piano I, an undisputed master by the naturalness of the fingering. A true dance suite, this score prepares perfectly for the last piece and fascinates with the dynamic created from the Introduction, Alla Marcia. The even more dynamic Waltz once again shows the impeccable rhythmic agreement of the two artists, relatively used to playing together, even if their own sound differs. Very concentrated, they follow each other and intermingle like a couple of dancers, then also voluble in the Romance then in the Tarantella.
[...] a perfect agreement in their dynamic and harmonic changes, calmed in the middle by a pensive Tempo I. The following twenty minutes involve the same movements, always slightly distanced from a work that can be presented with more passion and darkness, but always as superbly mastered and tuned."

For the first time, it seems like each piano plays to each other rather than two parts, playing, this is easily one of the best renditions I've heard

Argerich and Freire played this with much more tempo and vigour. This is more leisurely and thoughtful. As with so much of SR's music the beauty comes through most interpretations.
Can agree with you specially in the 3. movement. But the interaction between Argerich and Freire is much better synchronized.
