Loved the papers with this process. But you really need to warn people on this one to protect everything around where you are working because little tiny flecks of paint go everywhere onto everything!
Oh this brought back wonderful memories! I am 63 and I remember very vividly doing this in kindergarten and it began my life long love of creating art!!! She used a small pan and a delicious sheet of large white paper under the pan. Then we blew through the straw. Our teacher proudly displayed our creations and I knew then art and I would be life long friends! I cannot thank you enough for this memory and I will certainly do this now!
Oh my goodness, my inner kindergartener is loving this! ❤ I can't wait to start blowing bubbles. I recently acquired some fabulous antique fabric dyes that also work on paper. I am creating several journals for the New Year, so I will incorporate these techniques on my pages. Thank you so much!
Thank you! I used to do this with preschoolers and I’m so excited to be reminded… I am the bubble queen. I even wear a little miniature bubble blower around my neck. So this is perfect and I can’t wait to try !!!!

What a loving thing to say Julie, THANK YOU. Yes water colors will work, although I haven't tried it yet. But seen others do it, and it was equally as beautiful.

I just discovered your very informative channel yesterday...and I've been binge watching all the different collage paper making videos. I have been a painter for over 30 years, so seeing these new to me techniques is such FUN! You are a wonderful mix of artist/mad scientist!! Thank you, thank you.
Oh I adore you, and am deeply honored that you binge watched my videos. The highest compliment you can share! My new title is "mad art scientist" thanks to you!
I love this. We did this as an art project back in the 70's as a young kid. I had no idea what the mixture was and we just set the cup in the middle of the paper and blew until the liquid was gone. Then we used a sharpie to draw a picture. We are headed on an Alaskan cruise in a few weeks and now I am excited to make my own background paper for a scrapbook. Thank you.
Catching up on your videos here - now I know how I'm going to start my SAT creativity ritual: watch Cat! I loved seeing the multiple bubble techniques and am excited to bring these into my ever growing/expanding tricks to wow the EYE from my fav collage teacher - with humble thanks and deep appreciation, Sister Cat!!🙏☮🕉💜
WOW! That is super creative. This expands my options. I layer collage using very thin acid free tissue paper so some of the techniques probably won't work. But I'll try them anyway. Thank you so much for this information. Very cool!
I tried this the other day using a deep cookie sheet. I love your idea of using a cup, instead. And, I love the idea of transferring them with a spatula. Thanks!
Thank you so much Catherine, I really really enjoyed watching you create these awesome and beautiful paper’s with bubbles. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumb’s up too. Please stay safe and well too
Wow! Just when I thought I'd seen a video about everything you can do with paper, something new bubbles up! So beautiful, so easy, and looks like so much fun. Can hardly wait to try it. Thanks for a wonderful video...
This was very intriguing..I absolutely loved the element of surprize resulting from the array of organic shapes created with the bubble effect. Awesome!💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖
It is tricky at first as I too had some duds. But with just a little practice, mine came out consistently as you see in the video. Hopefully this video will shorten your learning process!
Thank you so much for this video, I’ve been trying to do this technique with very poor results! This completely explains where I’m going wrong, and you’ve given me more tools to do different styles of bubbles!! Thank you thank you!!💖💖
I'm thrilled that this video helped you. It took me quite a while to figure out what it wasn't working for me too! Hope you'll make gorgeous papers as a result!

Hmmm, I don't know for sure. This is often used on ceramics, so I'm thinking it would work for fabric too. Only way to know, is to give it a go! Let me know what happens!
This looked amazing so of course I had to try it. I used DS watercolor paint at first but the paint tends to stick to the bottom and not follow the bubbles up to the top. Worked a little better with liquid watercolor when I didn't add any water. But still struggled. Either I get one single big bubble that pops or just tiny, tiny bubbles that results in a solid color/no bubbles on the paper. I guess I have to keep experimenting.
Try reducing the amount of water you mix with the soap and paint. I had to play around with the ratio of the 3 ingredients until I got a consistent result. You basically want an even amount of soap, water and paint.
@@catrains.artist Just starting today on the texture paste and stencils (a little out of order) and already having fun! Thanks so much for this class and all your great videos!
Just found your channel yesterday. Amazingly simple way to get incredible results different each time. Just had my first go with metallic green and blue acrylic paint mixed with washing up liquid..not bad…but have to monitor how much of each …..hope it dries out ok. @@catrains.artist I tried with ink because I didn't have acrylic paint but it didn't work. The color didn't make a rim around a bubble and the papers didn't take on the liquid as fast as yours did. Just your educated guess is enough to fuel my enthousiasme. not asking for ultimate answers. :)
@@bumblebaa2327 It worked with acrylic ink and india ink, the same as with acrylic paint. The solution is in the ratios of water, ink/paint/soap liquid. Approximately even amount of each. Sound like you might be using too much water? Time to continue playing!
I Love this, I much prefer to decorate my own papers instead of using scrapbook paper. the rice paper took on a Batik affect! with the 3 straw method, I could see a ink drawing of flowers over each bubble
Those supplies would work great. I loved using 140lb water color paper. Didn't try water color, but I understand this would work equally well. Just be sure add a lot of color. You'll have to experiment to figure out how much to make this work.
I don't have liquid paint. I suppose that I could use paint from the tube ane diluted and mix with other colors so I can have more options. I do have in liquid states some water colors like 5 shades of RED mixed with yellow i dont know how will they react with Pva glue when I use it for collaging. In my country we still don't have that variety of colors. All I have it's came from my friends that lives abroad except acrilic paint in tubes 😂. We still have the artist but no so many people that go deep in to collaging and mix media just for a fun of it.
This looks like so much fun! Have you ever tried doing this directly on a painting? I'm wondering what it would do to the surrounding acrylic paint if I tried this technique.
No, I haven't tried it directly on a painting mainly because my primary medium is collage. I prefer to use collage papers as paint, which means I need to papers made before I start using them in a collage.
Ok. This looks like so much fun. I’m going to try this with watercolors and watercolor paper. If it turns out it will be a fun background for lots of paintings. If it works, I’ll let you know!😊. Thank you for this video!! 💐
