We hope you enjoyed this one, we also filmed a behind the scenes video on how we shot these models on our second channel, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/c85xr7ssUW4/видео.html
Sir, I absolutely respect your hobby and I rarely ever do what I do next but yeah….sir, there is NO justification for these prices. I know you tried in the video and I did watch it and saw the amount of work etc but no, this cannot be justified in a world where, even in the uk, you have kids going hungry.
I make and collect 1/24 model cars. I also build models for customers but these prices are absolutely out of reach for normal people. I guess the customers are millionaires or billionaires, or the car companies themselves.
James May was originally scheduled to film this visit, but after refusing to leave for 3 days, Amalgam had to have him forcibly removed, and now is subject to a restraining order. Turns out it takes that long to tidy and organise a 1/8 scale full tools cabinet.
I thought I was being excessive buying a 40 euro model of my car. These guys should setup a museum with dioramas and history lessons about all the cars.
I'm a full-time scale modeler catering to collectors. These are simply works of art, and their customers are paying for the time a dedication these artists put into each piece. Beautiful work.
Works of art, actually. Precise examples of modern engineering and fabrication, both in real life and these scale reproductions. As an avid aircraft modeller and die-cast collector, I heartily approve! Bravo!
As a scale modeller, who mostly focuses on aircraft, I loved this video. The cars look fantastic but I can't be the only one that noticed the decals on that SR-71 weren't on properly. You can see the film quite clearly. For the SR-71 where the finish is a matte black it's a common problem which is why a lot of modellers cut masks and spray the markings on instead.
If someone makes let say 400K a month, 30K is something relatively small. For special occasions i can understand someone spending this amount. If i had 30K 'laying around' i would consider a model from Amalgam
That’s incredible, there’s a company in Britain called “The Little Car Company”, that builds drivable models like this (smaller scale than the original car they’re modeling) and they’re awesome. Amazing craftsmen in Britain that’s for sure
I swear I'm not complaining anymore about Solido prices increasing of 10 euros. More miniature cars please, this was so satisfying. Probably I would love to have the African wagons trio in 1/4th scale, the 528i impreza and 850R rigorously modified for Africa life😁
I never got into models because I simply have never had the patience to build them, though I do very much enjoy looking at them. The builder's have my utmost respect for the amount of patience and steady hand they must have to be able to put so much fine detail into their creations. Really amazing!
I have a couple of amalgam models. They are by far the most detailed models on the market. They are truly works of art, I can stare at them for hours. Nothing even comes close in my opinion.
Molds are not art my friend. A vase made on a potters wheel is art. A vase made from a cast is not art. The Mona Lisa is art, a photo of the Mona Lisa is not art. Do we call Legos art too???🤣🤣🤣
I prefer to build my own but it is incredible seeing these, especially to see what amateurs like me can learn from them. Pretty crazy that these models cost more than my actual 1/1 scale car which can drive and everything!
Having a paid job building miniature vehicles to such detail is really a dream job. I'm jealous of those people working at Amalgam. They all look amazing!
The SR 71 looks like a revel model I put together when I was 14 years old. It doesn’t look anything special. Now that Red Bull RB 18 now that’s pretty sweet although there is no way I’m paying 30,000 pounds for that thing to just sit in there and collect dust. These models are almost only for the rich, because nobody in their right mind would purchase that who lives in a trailer.
As a scale modeller, this is basically dream job, all the special wishes customers have and being able to fulfill them is great! Its also nice to see that they use some regular, everyday products that are availabe to everybody, although i would like to see how they are making all those hand crafted parts like door mechanism and so on! Very impressive!
19:49 iv had the honour of working on the v12 Merlin engine it's such a beast, you look like a kid in his favourite toy shop......I'm jealous 😂😂 great video Mike
7:10 perfectly demonstrates my severe dislike of decals. The color mismatch and rough appearance on a £40,000 model is atrocious. If pad printing is not possible they should have painted using stencils. Older Autoart and Exoto diecast models did this kind of painting so much better, at a fraction (literally) of the Amalgam prices.
I had the privilege to get up close and personal with both the SR71 and the U2/TR1, as well as seeing them take off and land. The SR71 gets so hot that the titanium expands a great deal, they are fueled just before start up and during the taxi, takeoff and all the way up to supersonic speeds, fuel leaks from gaps that allow expansion. Usually after takeoff the aircraft refuels. The U2 takes off and immediately climbs to cruising altitude, the climb is very close to vertical. Pilots of both aircraft wear high altitude flying suites which are close to space suits, they had one complaint. They have to pass a very thorough physical exam before each flight and wear the suite, flying at 60,000ft but when crossing the Atlantic there was another aircraft at 60,000ft the occupants were not in special suits, didn't get examined and the passengers were sipping champagne and eating fine food. They loved and hated the Concorde for that.
I have two Amalgam models: a Ferrari 330 P3 and a 250 GTO. They are only 1/18th scale but the fit and finish are outstanding. I've put my name down for a Ferrari 499P and can't wait to get it. I don't suppose I'll ever be able to afford a 1/8th scale model, but I live in hope.
Just received my order of the Red Bull racing RB 19 F1 car in 1:18 scale and must I say by far one of the best model cars I’ve ever purchased. The attention to detail even at that scale is second to none In my opinion. I wish I could afford the one to eight scale models but too pricey for me even the scale that I bought it at was a bit hefty for my wallet, but definitely worth it. The boxing experience was even great as well. Made me feel like I had $1 million in my bank account. That’s the quality you get when you purchase with amalgam
Fortunate enough to see the very same SR-71 that model was representing (17972) in Virginia 2 years ago. Bucket list moment to finally see a Blackbird in person.
Id love to see any sort of rally car made up by Amalgam, Group B or even a modern Rally 1. Especially if it was post race model; little dents, dings, wear, damage, worn tires, dirt\mud splatter, chips in the paint from rocks, etc..
I collect relatively cheap and affordable model cars, these are way cooler, more detailed and more expensive! Having some of these models and actually owning some of them in real life, heaven!
Please do a tour that shows how they work with the CAD data to make the model and molds. It would be great to see how they print the parts and make the tooling for production.
My dad always encouraged me to build models and over the years he has bought me hundreds of kits and I have so many happy memories building them with my dad ❤ these are expensive yes but are so worth it. The detail gone into building these is breathtaking.
Pretty cool but the prices are ridiculous. That SR71 you can see the decals on the tail fins no smoothing or coating to attempt to flatten them like the pro modellers do.
as a collector of model trains i have to say the 8th and 4th scale model cars are absultely works of art although that 40th scale blackbird seems like an absolute scam, if i spend 40 thousand dollars on a model i expect to have as many parts as the real thing and fit perfectly together, i believe i have model trains in 1/87th with more precise detailing and fitment than it for less than 1/100th of the cost including functionality and lighting, in one of the shots the canopy wasnt properly aligned and the walls looked way too thick. but other than that id love to see this company build a 1/24th scale replica of some steam engines they surely have potential
You must've filmed this while James was in India. I dont do instagram, but I'd love the Nurburgring 2017 Dodge Viper ACR. Still the fastest NA car, and 19th overall set in Sept of 2017. 2 were built, but the 1st was crashed on a practice lap, and the 2nd broke major parts, and the 1st was cannibalized to keep the 2nd going, which then set the record.
I hope they start an Amalgam Lite series where the exterior is detailed but leave out the intricate internal bits that we will never see and charge 1/4 the price. I’ll definitely consider buying it.
Great Video. No doubt that they are truly modeling marvels, given their detail and craftsmanship, but... can I really enjoy them if I have to worry about $5,000 of damage, because I opened a door wrong? If you can afford it, you don't worry about that. But the real enjoyment of scale modeling, comes from removing panels, opening doors, the bonnet, and so forth, to share it with other enthusiasts. Congratulations to everyone at Amalgam, for their great craftsmanship and detail.
Beautiful video, both from the content standpoint, but so from the production and editing aspect as well. Beautifully timed and choreographed, definitely some of your best work. Keep it up and looking forward to other videos like this.
Hey Mike I'm digging that SR-71. Mike should go to a scale model show. I think he would be surprised at the amount of detail some of "us" can put into a standard plastic model kit you buy off a shelf. Talk to the builders and get some of their tricks and tips on super detailing. I mainly build 79 and older cars but have been asked to build other things. When I got into building models it was before 3d printing and all the custom parts you could just buy. We were custom making everything with stuff you can easily find. The early days we didn't have the internet so we actually had to go to the library and do hours of research and looking at tiny pictures with a magnifying glass. I was a snot nosed teen and there were guys my age helping me then.

Great diecast car, I was looking on a we known auction site last night and came across some Oxford Diecast, Top Gear amphibious cars, you should review them.
Incredible models and level of detail! $$$ but now we know why. Only thing that compete with this is seeing these scale remote control with real working scaled down v10, v12, v8 , custom made manual gear boxes for them just to name a few. The guy has his own you tube channel making all this stuff and it's addictive ! I would love to have that gt40 and that sr71 blackbird. Reminds me of the testor kit I put together back in the 80s I and had hanging from my calling along with a f14 tomcat and p38 lightning. For further content you should look at real working micro scale models and their gorgeous, and powerful (each scale down engine has its own sound and exhaust) . It's another rabbit hole that will eat your time and $$$
I could never afford one of those (not sure I would if I could...maybe if I had more money than I can imagine I would, who knows) , but the attention to detail and the crafting that goes into making the models is mind-blowing.
Would love to see y'all get into some DIY model building / restoration stuff on this channel. My favorite series ever is the three-part train restoration videos with you and James. More stuff like that would be great
Love the idea of the detail and what goes into these. The pricing is still ridiculous. There are several companies that are licensed with fraction of the cost in the 1:18 and 1:24 scales. All that being said there does appear to be customers paying for it so more power to them
We hope you enjoyed this one, we also filmed a behind the scenes video on how we shot these models on our second channel, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/c85xr7ssUW4/видео.html
You should do this with model trains, if at all possible! Loved this!
Sir, I absolutely respect your hobby and I rarely ever do what I do next but yeah….sir, there is NO justification for these prices. Ah Internets, you never cease to keep me entertained.
I'm sure the same thing would happen I'd Adam Savage went there.
Lol😂😂
read this in clarkson’s voice 😂
I thought I was being excessive buying a 40 euro model of my car. These guys should setup a museum with dioramas and history lessons about all the cars.
These would be perfect for a small scale museum. Pack a lot of history in a small place. Plus you could display cars that may not exist anymore.
Exactly what was thinking@@number1yota
Right, I wince when I spend $280+ on Autoart models - these make Autoart models look like Hot Wheels knockoffs
I'm a full-time scale modeler catering to collectors. These are simply works of art, and their customers are paying for the time a dedication these artists put into each piece. Beautiful work.

Not to mention the pilot's helmet just looked terrible. Or at least, terrible by $50,000 model standards lol
@@Valynbrown thats what i thought, the window with the red trim also looked quite janky
What??? Decals on a multi thousand dollar model? Inexcusable! My $1,600 Agora Diecast Mercedes W196 R has painted on graphics that are perfect!
and the brush strokes were visible
Very poor model
Nice to see Richard Hammond's new life size car collection!
As an avid model builder since I was a kid, I think these models are amazing
A tad bit expensive
Regardless of how wealthy someone is, wasting money is wasting money!

2:08 wheels on old aston, amazing work😯
Like anything else, you have to pay for quality and these are true works of art by passionate craftsman.
Or you just do it yourself, makes you proud aswell.

Indeed. The U2 and SR71 operated side by side.
