My dad was 2weeks short of 91, he told me that he was so sad because all his friends that he cared about had gone own in and he could not wait to join them. He died after my mom, 1 month after he died my older brother died and 1 month after my brother died I had a aunt die and 1 month after she died my middle son 26 died so I know that it can get bad. But there is always hope.
He seems happy and grateful for his long life. Without a supportive and loving multi-generational family, a long life can be a curse. So happy for him and the very young in his family who get to experience him.
He's not sad at all. He's overwhelmed ,he is truly blessed and he believes and knows that ,he has experienced 100 years of life ,first 25 years of his life would of been the most beautiful and the most tormenting .not only that imagine how he's seen the world change and evolve ,that is truly amazing ,I would love to here about his experience and his prospective of life

Yeah, it seems bittersweet. I am sure he is very grateful for all of the life he has been gifted with. I am also sure he misses his Family and Friends who have transitioned over. It is tough being The First and/or The Last in any group. It just carries a different type of weight and responsibility. Bless his Heart & Soul.

And when he stumbles and starts stuttering when he speaks of all his buddies and how he feels blessed. But he knows it can't last forever, and who knows, maybe he was a volunteer one day, and given something to drink or swallow., So he did, and now he is a super soldier, and he is still in the shape of a young recruit, but his body ages slower. My Dad stormed that beach also! And I heard him say those exact same words about 25 years ago when he found out that he was the last one of his small group of friends. Heart breaking.

Before my Grandfather passed I wish I could have had him interviewed, he never wanted to talk to me about it, his brother was killed after surviving the Bataan Death March. In the 90s I was travelling but stayed at a pay weekly apartment in Houston I was just doing my washing and a gentleman was there as I’m a Brit he told me about seeing the white cliffs of Dover. I thanked him on behalf of my country and gave him a hug I did think after his service he should be stuck in a truly awful apartment it’s wrong as an idea I saw 3 flats 1 rotting dead person 2 untrained cat had lived there 3 wreaked of gas I went for the last yes I know how stupid that was but I was young and thought the apartment just needed airing My point is that’s where a hero ended up it’s really not ok

I can only imagine the hurt he goes through to see the world as it is. He sacrificed for nothing. Look at the literal wastes of oxygen that think they actually know what is going on.
On a purely numerical bases, he was part of a group a number int a unit, regardless of anything else, it makes you painfully aware of the passage of time, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2…1… gone.
Almost like they used to eat food that weren't modified, sprayed with insane amounts of pesticides, and grown with copious quantities of chemical fertilizers. Add in the pharmaceutical industry manipulation of our health and that we as a society, developed our youth to understand and VALUE general health and fitness. We're a long way from that generation anymore, sadly.

I couldn't watch this only once, but, multiple times. He's survived into the second generation. Not many can do that especially after having survived a world war.

My grandfather died July 8th 2024, reached 102 and fought in WWII. Man lived to see generations of his family grow. Which is probably on of the greatest gifts he could ever have.
That man fought like hell to get to see those generations sprout new life and opportunity, my deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your family
Best part is now look at the country he fought for, it's a mess. The population is actually fighting each other over political party alignment red v blue.. I remember hearing from a Indian man from the West who when back to his tribal land after the time with the Marines and he felt like he was more connected to those men than his own native people because they experiences the heat of a battle. He missed them a lot.

My father would have been 100 on June 24th. He served in the Navy in both Europe and the Pacific. I was so blessed to be raised by the Greatest Generation. They also went through the Great Depression , WOW ! Thank you for your service sir 🇺🇸❤️💪🏼
Dad born January 12, 1924. Served in the navy. I too wish I could have more time with him. So many questions to ask. Dad passed away February 18, 1993 😢
This poor guy is vividly recalling those moments like they were yesterday. 101 is too old. Everyone he knew is gone. In many cases the children are gone. Grandkids don't want to bother with gramps. He's blessed not to be suffering physically.
I want to hug him too! My grandfather was a World War II veteran. He was in the South Pacific and his ship is docked in Alameda. It's the USS Hornet II. This gentleman reminds me of him so much. I just lost my 93-year-old father a year ago and he was a Korean war vet. He was the last man standing in his high school class of 1948. I miss them both and I wish this wonderful gentleman nothing but blessings and thank you for your service, sir.

I did two tours in Iraq as an Infantryman. Yeah we got into some firefights, blown up here and there. But this generation of men, they were involved in full kinetic peer to peer conflict. I cannot even imagine the horror of division on division combat like they saw. Truly the Greatest Generation. The world called on them to stop a tyrant, and they all stepped up.

One marine infantry, another marine weapons specialist, and army diesel mechanic. All did a couple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. For me, respect isnt earned necessarily by what you endured, but by the willingness to put your life on the line to serve your country. Although different degrees of what one goes through in combat will certainly affect their character.

My neighbor is 93 and was interned in a Japanese camp as a kid. He is the sweetest, kindest, happiest man I’ve ever known. He reminds me of this gentle soul.
Suffering can condition you to be a better person. Humility. We rarely if ever think of the civilians and families that were in Japanese prison camps. My dad's cousin and his family were in a camp. He was a mining engineer on the Philippines. Totally changed them.
My whole family was also in those Japanese camps. Problem is that there is a very little written in Dutch history books about the torture and pain they had. They also suffered from hunger and hard labor. My dad was executed but miraculously survived with a big headwound , so they let him live. He also past away in 2021 at 93 years old. His friend from school passed away this year at 96

Edward and his family had their farm taken and sold at auction. Somehow they managed to buy another farm and their children and grandchildren are all happy and successful. Japanese people may be small, but they are tough. Glad to hear that your family endures.

Ostracized him and told him he was evil. He was such an American He went on to join the 442nd one of the most decorated units in American history.

i once asked my grandma when she was in her mid 80s if she felt like she was that old. her response? “oh honey no… i still just feel like me, except everyone else my age is gone.” what a sobering response that was. My dad passed away this May only 6 days short of 102 years old.He was on Omaha Beach , D-Day+3 as a medic. RIP Dad and bless this Vet.
My father was the 3rd day in the beaches at Normandy. He never could talk about it but it affected him all his life. He died in his 80’s.

My father would have been 100 on June 24th. He served in the Navy in both Europe and the Pacific. I was so blessed to be raised by the Greatest Generation. They also went through the Great Depression , WOW ! Thank you for your service sir 🇺🇸❤️💪🏼

I just lost my 93-year-old father a year ago and he was a Korean war vet. He was the last man standing in his high school class of 1948. I miss them both and I wish this wonderful gentleman nothing but blessings and thank you for your service, sir.

I did two tours in Iraq as an Infantryman. Yeah we got into some firefights, blown up here and there. But this generation of men, they were involved in full kinetic peer to peer conflict. I cannot even imagine the horror of division on division combat like they saw. Truly the Greatest Generation. The world called on them to stop a tyrant, and they all stepped up.

One marine infantry, another marine weapons specialist, and army diesel mechanic. All did a couple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. For me, respect isnt earned necessarily by what you endured, but by the willingness to put your life on the line to serve your country. Although different degrees of what one goes through in combat will certainly affect their character.

My neighbor is 93 and was interned in a Japanese camp as a kid. He is the sweetest, kindest, happiest man I’ve ever known. He reminds me of this gentle soul.
Suffering can condition you to be a better person. Humility. We rarely if ever think of the civilians and families that were in Japanese prison camps. My dad's cousin and his family were in a camp. He was a mining engineer on the Philippines. Totally changed them.
My whole family was also in those Japanese camps.
Problem is that there is a very little written in Dutch history books about the torture and pain they had. They also suffered from hunger and hard labor.
My dad was executed but miraculously survived with a big headwound , so they let him live.
He also past away in 2021 at 93 years old. His friend from school passed away this year at 96

Edward and his family had their farm taken and sold at auction. Somehow they managed to buy another farm and their children and grandchildren are all happy and successful. @@K1ngAlexanderyeah and people cut down on sleep to capture more of their life just for that less amount of sleep to be the end of them sooner! It's insanity. We need 3 day work weeks maybe 4 but 5+ is far too much
