A tip for anyone driving a 3rd generation Tacoma like that.
If you press the traction control button once, you can spin the tires a bit, but it still keeps the nanny on.
If you stop and hold the button for a few seconds, it turns it all off and you can spin the tires and whip cookies til you get dizzy.

Not paying attention when Google told me I needed to turn left onto a highway waited for an opening and made my left turn unfortunately it was a divided highway right turn only and I was heading into uncoming traffic the wrong way,😱😳 fortunately I realized the mistake and got over on the shoulder and said a few expletives'🤬 before doing a u turn and got down the road a piece and could get unto the divided highway going in the correct direction. When I say divided highway there was a strip of woods perhaps 40-50yds wide dividing the highway with no way of seeing that it was actually a four lane highway, yes I should have been looking for road signs(no left turn) and not listening to Google. I have on occasion when approaching an intersection and just make a right turn have Google tell me to cross the intersection and then make 3 left turns.🤔

I have my own experience getting into this kind of situation that might give some idea how people end up in places their car clearly does not belong. all it took was the right combo of curiosity, boredom, and stubbornness to get me into that mess. getting out on the other hand took an awful lot of dumb luck.
I have a vivid memory of a trip from st. george/hurricane utah to joshua tree np where I decided to see what "avoid highways" kind of route looked like in that part of the country, having grown up and lived in the midwest most of my life. mind you I was in a front wheel drive subcompact. after about 30 minutes it turned to dirt, dirt turned to mud, then there were rocks, then bigger rocks. that car was a trooper, substituting momentum for traction it went through much more than you'd think it ever could. each obstacle felt like I just barely made it, turning back felt like a guarantee of getting stuck so I just kept going. but as I kept going the obstacles got progressively worse. eventually I was just following power-lines, the 'road' was barely different from the rest of the terrain and clealy had only been graded once decades ago for those lines to be put it. the entire time google maps still showed it as a road, giving 0 indication that this did not fit any midwestern definition of a road
I did high-center my car at one point, on a downhill in fact. a little careful digging and I was free, but just barely made it down. zero chance of going back up the way I came, so I stubbornly trudged on. eventually I reached a cliff ledge with a town visible below. the power-lines just went straight over the cliff, what little semblance of road left had fizzled out a while ago.
it took me a few minutes to find that there was thankfully a trail that hugged the cliff edge and led down. a big ditch on one side, a steep drop on the other, and mud thicker than anything I'd hit yet down the middle. moving downhill with a scary amount of momentum was still just barely enough to get through that mud, but I made it. a few hundred feet further and I was back on pavement.
I want to say I spent about 7 or 8 hours, covering about 30 minutes, maybe an hours travel at best if I had stuck to actual roads. if any rocks were a little bigger or mud a bit deeper I wouldn't have made it, either getting properly buried or just breaking my car. a quick glance at satellite view would have told me this was a bad idea, in my mind if it was marked as a road on google maps it shouldn't be any worse than an old gravel road full of pot-holes. clearly not the case, otherwise we'd have a lot less of these kind of videos

As many have noted in the comments here, the Charger was a GT, which has AWD. What I haven't seen anyone note is that the AWD engages automatically when the temp drops below 40 degrees or if the windshield wipers are on. The other way to get the car into AWD is to put it in Sport mode, which is done by pressing the Sport button on the console directly in front of the shifter... it's right next to the Hazard button. If they had known to do that the recovery would have been a bit easier. I've had a Challenger GT for the past 5 years and have really enjoyed the AWD in the winter, never needing to chain-up once. It's also great when getting started on a wet hill in the rain. I really wish Dodge had made AWD with the 6.4 V8s because I'm gonna miss that when I upgrade to a Scat Pack this spring.

The first rule of MORR is you don't talk about the 5 rules... Ok, breaking that, what are the 5 rules/steps for the driver of the vehicle getting recovered? I *think* if I've been paying attention they are something like: 1, Seatbelt; 2, Parking brake off; 3, Traction control off; 4, In 4 Low if available; 5, in appropriate gear (fwd/rev), no gas with the wheels pointed as directed.

Google maps says "you have to walk there from here." Google maps tells me that the "nearest" grocery store is 1 mile away. Yep. Through a dense woods with no trail, across a river with no bridge, and inside an apartment building which you need a keycard to enter. By the way, this is a tiny convenience store. OR I could instead walk straight up my sidewalk, through my quiet residential neighborhood, for 1/2 mile, turn right on the main street, and walk into a shopping district/ total distance 1.1 miles. There is a full sized grocery store, a large drugstore, a wine shop, a bakery, and a deli in that shopping district, but Google maps knows it is farther away than the tiny apartment house store.

A few corrections, if I may (forgive me Matt):
    1. The prior Dodge you pulled out was a *Challenger* , not a Charger....then the Durango....now the Charger.
    2. No V-8 powered Chargers or Challengers were available with AWD - only V6 ones were, so if you know one
is an SRT or R/T, then you can pretty much bet it isn't AWD.
    3. Since you've stated more than once that you all can't "judge" customers, I'll assume that responsibility:
The last folks were bloomin' *idiots* , GPS or not, for taking that car out there!
Y'all have fun, see you on the next one (Yay Trevor!),
    - Ed on the Ridge

I suspect the GPS's on these rentals are set to a default of 'shortest route' rather than 'fastest.' That setting will direct you off a 6 lane freeway onto a cow path to save 100 yards of distance over a 50 mile drive. . I speak from experience. That would explain why so many wind up in the same wrong place.
