When I started working for a tree company, l was a ground guy starting out, takes time to learn the do's and don'ts, but I also new that l wanted to become a climber and do bucket work, it's hard to find guys for ground work that are willing to look farther than a pay check, your have to love the work, and the challenge of it, for myself l was hooked on the risks of working with trees, figuring out the best and safest way of getting the job done, you feel alive at the end of the day, think about it your outside fresh air , great exercise, every jobs different, never boring, you can't get better than that!!! ;)

My thoughts exactly! I worked urban and wooded and the ground crew are to ALWAYS to make sure that safety is first for themselves and any outsiders. They see the monkey is about to top the tree and they should have made sure that no one is a target. But also, in working the urban areas, the top should have been tethered so it can fall against the tree and be lowered. NEVER free drop the top in an urban area!
Azri'el Collier I’ve dropped some tops from pretty far up but I doubt any of them were from quite that high and always had a wider relative clear area to drop them in or else I roped them. It’s kind of a bit of a scary thrill when you drop a sizable section of the top of a tree and the part you’re roped to shakes back and forth from the sudden loss of stress above it. The biggest scare I got when doing that was when one decided to drop on its top and bounced! Kind of unpredictable.
This was the 3rd & final removal at that property - it had been a long hard day and the ground guys were beat. I tried to get all the branches as close to the chipper as possible to save them the extra work 😉💪

actualy it was not planed to fall then. you can see him signaling that the 2 cars can pass becaus he tought the tree was not gona fall. but when he removed his saw it fell by mistake
doesnt matter. u dont put warning up 10 seconds before he falls the tree. this is something you do before u start climbing! he fucked up and m,ade a mistake which is exactly what i said . thanks for telling me in your own words....
well if you look you will "probably" see no signs? like i said should be fenced off and treated like any over head hazrd work site. 15 years of working on swing stage and elevated platform work it seems like common sense to me
Sena Bluetooth headsets. Worth every penny. Went Years with shitty communication. Being able to talk to a guy 100ft up a tree like he’s standing next to you is amazing. Also you can listen to tunes all day while you’re not talking. The groundsmen was definitely at fault here. When your climber is taking the top stand in the street and by no means let a car go by. Really lucky and close call. Signs and cones are also your best friend. Awesome video

I love your easy going tactic to remove the tree definitely would like to see the rest of the video. Just two things. When I’m working near a road as such I leave no room for guessing when it comes to pedestrians. I had many take the chance to cross the kill zone even when cones and other safety steps were in place. But the biggest great step is to have men in the road as a live communicator to possibly pedestrians coming in the area at that moment when death is falling. And I think that driver thought you signal them to pass through when you waved your hand. May be a good thing to have some radio talky when your so high up. Great work love it. God bless.
I was a climber for twelve years with a Professional company. If my boss ( the best one I ever had) had come upon that job site we would all have been fired.
*That near miss is the VERY reason in Tennessee now you have to have cones out blocking people from coming through your work area. if you don't have them it's a HUGE fine*
it was terrifying to watch this guy to operate. His ropes are of the same color as the wood and he is very close to the ropes many times. It is a surprise that he got down alive. He was also casting the twigs carelessly all over.

That's true but here was the mistake as I observed and I'm not in that line of work. The cutter up the tree saw the van coming. He stopped his cut and waved below to let the van pass even though he had cut 2/3rds through. I guess his past experience was that last 3rd would hold. Where was the supervisor? I don't do this kind of work but I've worked with wood. Once the cut is more than halfway through, it can easily sheer away compared to being uncut. Side comment. It bugged me when he had one of the belts over a 1 inch limb. But the main belt was around the trunk. Also, cutting limbs just a few inches away from the main belt. He had faith in his skill.
@@tigerzero5216 Absolutely. That's a beautiful liitle saw for precision work, but still you need trust in your hand. That thin branch would have scared me as well. And yeah, starting the back cut before making sure traffic was stopped was a mistake.

No I don't do this work, but as an "Engineer" one is able to assess: structure, loadings, hazards and mitigate risk... I agree re. Safety lines (whatever the "professionals" like to call them), just looping it over a small branch - which would possibly not take a fall.. surely it should go over a branch on the other side of the trunk (less "shear force on the branch" - or tie a "french prusik" or - even just a couple of wraps around the trunk and back to the belt - other friction hitch around the trunk... )
To all of the climbers out there, dont ever put you climbing rope on those little limbs. Always go around the main trunk of the tree, or use 2 safety straps, Unsafe work on this video.

Wheres the road work signs, the private sector doesn't have to follow rules . No traffic control how do these guys work and not get hurt or the public. Take every precaution cuz you don't get many second chances.
I am 75 now and hardly climb up to the table, but climbed for many years on steel and wood as a lineman. Always hated when I had to climb a tree. Better you than me! Well done.
I hate some climbers who are snobs and think they dont have to help clean up and now that I climb I still feel everybody on the job is a ground guy and I'd drag brush for you any day man, subscribing!

Superman 68 the guy waved the car through but the car for some reason decided to slow down to 2 miles and wonder what all the tree limbs were all about and then the tree just broke lose not the ground people’s fault but the driver shouldn’t have stopped where he did
It's all their fault. First of all the guy in the tree should have been wise enough not to let the cars through. Secondly his groundcrew should have been aware of his misjudgement and stopped the car. Thirdly if the car was a bit smarter he would not have ride through and then stopped. Best would have been just stopped, but since he didn't, second best would have been driving through without stopping right at the point of the tree. All people in this video made a mistake at the exact same time, but I guess it's easier said and done. Which person fucked up most is free for personal opinion to be judged :P
That was one hell of a drop at the end, put it right at the mouth of the mulcher. Thinking of the ground crew were ya, to lessen their workload? Nice job....

Yeah and common sense is that the groundie should have stopped the driver! The driver cannot be aware that there is work being done and someone is going the fell a tree on the street. Thats why there should have been more clear and better barriers and warning signs.
If you look closly before the driver makes the right turn in to that street. The dude on the tree signs to him that its okey for both cars to pass. BUT he missjudged the "cut" he had made in the tree, he didnt know it whas gonna fall when it did. Besides, if the treetop had hit the car, there would only be some minor damage to the car, nothing major
I sure miss those days . I wonder if any of the guys I worked with at Timberline in northvancouver ever come on these youtube video's ? I know Mike started his own tree company and called it Cut above , and now I think its Tree people . I remember working with Richey First , crazy , guy . He would just storm up that tree , branches flying everywhere ………...in the bush of course , we were doing dangerous tree removal for hydro on Keats island . I remember being so proud of myself for climbing so fast and so high and then I felt a poke in my bum and I looked behind me and one of our guys had free climbed all the way up and poked me in the ass with his finger . What a gang .
As a man who started as a branch manager AKA ground guy lol I now climb and hang off the ball (crane for those who don't know), its nice to see the effort you put in for the ground guys with the branches you cut and hold how you drop them butt end facing the right direction and dont make a birds nest to pick up at the end (that fahkn sux!!). Nice job brotha, thank you for sharing! And all these guys bitchn about you tieing in on the branches and how they follow ALL rules and regulations AHAHAHA ya OK , its safe as long as tight to the trunk, which you know because thats what you did so they can suck it.
Personally, I'm concerned with the cars and more concernd with the climbing line around one limb up the tree. Yeah, I see the wire core flip line, however, put yout climbing line around the stem so you aren't relying entirely on one limb. You have far more "fuses" for failure and in worst case a knot or just friction in the outer bark of the tree. Yes, you have the flip line but we are trained on two tie ins for cutting. Not very effective if you Gaff out and put all your weight on that one limb holding you up. Stay safe Brother!
bad boy Yes I definitely agree I started out as a groundman chipping brush and learn to climb in climbing for 20 years never seen anybody try to wrap their safety line and their main line around a branch if you cut that that's it you're all done that high up you will never climb again you'll be lucky if you live
I see what yall are saying but isn't that just his alternate flip line wrapped around the limb? I skipped through the video but he was mainly climbing with gaffs and his main flip line and it looked like the other one was just a back up
A very interesting clip. Did not know there is such kind of job, seems dangerous yet exciting. The driver should have noticed the truck, the shredding machine and all the bits and pieces on the road. The tree did not touch any part of the car anyway. Thank you for sharing.

TreeCraft, Here's a tip. TRAFFIC CONTROL. 1: The only vehicles on the street should be yours. The neighbors should move their cars before you start. You should have talked to them the day before to let them know what will be happening. 2: Cones or barricades. Use one of your vehicles if you have to, even an empty trailer would work if you don't have any other barricades. BUT- In your line of work you should already have traffic barricades. 3: The guy up top needs to look and wait for the ground crew to pick up the limbs and move away before dropping the next limb. Speed Kills. -- Glad no one was hurt. Stay Safe. Stay safer in the future.

This is a good example of poor arboricultural practice. Poor communication, poor choice of anchor point (the branches used are all far too small and your lifeline isn't attached til you're some way up the tree) and breaking one of the elementary rules of basic felling: once the back cut has begun you DO NOT allow ANYONE to pass through the drop zone. Also your groundies are standing in the road wearing dark clothing, no hi-vis. If someone drives past gawking at the tree someone's going to get hurt. Also no signage or cones. In this game, complacency kills. Ok I'm based in the UK so we've got nanny state health and safety here but this is all basic stuff and as such I can't apologise for my comment.
Used to live in the UK, and those crazy rules and regulations drove me insane at first, but then I saw all the merits, and the necessity of them, so I say, that is rather the proper way to do things as you guys doing it over there.

Wish we had Go-Pros when I was doing water towers in '74. Simple bosins chair, 5/8" manilla rope - scrape n paint, sandblast & spray suspended from railing (O/S catwalk, ladder, trusses & beams - I/S ladders n spider-rods). It was all fun. We just worked with what we had and/or improvised.
Whoever was driving the van should've waited, sped thru safely, or went around. I knew the moment he tapped the top with his hand that it was going to fall. Nice work guys! Thia was fun to watch!

I would say put out cones prior to starting work. This way civilians are aware that there is a potential hazard in that area. Great idea to have groundies on the road to stop traffic. Good job though on the removal. I would suggest practicing cutting slightly into the collar to "steer" the limbs instead of undercut and top cut. Douggies are great for this!

I know , when I was topping I always made sure I was cutting at waist height so if saw ever was to kick back it wouldn't cut my neck , and I always kept away from the scare strap when cutting branches . He seemed too close to his scare strap when he was knicking those branches .
You have to be brave to put your work on RUclips. Opening the door and letting the critics in . Perhaps because I am not knowledgeable , I really enjoyed it . It was good to see a big tree come down with no Houses destroyed . Nice and neat . Well done
Kinda tough to explain but the short story is always keep your saw running full speed in the back cut or slide it out. There is this chance that you can get the chain hooked into the wood as the chunk breaks free and then it is gonna want to take your saw with it. If your stubborn like me then your saw is gonna wanna take you with it. If your a willow tree with a lanyard around you then your gonna wanna go with the climber. If you are familiar with a catapult then you can imagine a climber doing an airwalk while rolling down the windows at the end of his lanyard until his hand without the running saw latches onto the top of the tree. That also means if you have adrenal glands that your knees are shaking and you have pedal foot and if that is happening your tree buddy is on the ground laughing and that means he gets to go up the tree next. Also do not cut with only one tie in point, especially a single spar top cut. OSHA requires that you have a rope that terminates to one point on the harness up top. I do not abide because I am more stable with the lanyard up top and I put my topline down lower where it can be a redundant safety anchor in case of a rope getting cut or an absurd ride in the convertible and my lanyard were to get ejected over the top. Also a topline that is properly set can get you an immediate emergency egress in case of an emergency like a nasty cut or a huge bald headed hornets nest that makes you consider just jumping to end it all. I like to slide the chainsaw out and away from myself as though finishing a sword cut to avoid unwanted wood attachment. In fact always treat your chainsaw like a sword you are swinging and you might avoid some mishaps. you would not swing a sword through a branch with your arm behind it but apparently people think they can hold onto branches behind their cut and never pay for it. some safety nazis that cannot seem to stay unhurt better than me always finish their cuts with a straight bladed hand saw and that is not a bad idea especially in tight quarters or when man handling is part of the game. You certainly cannot blame the driver but people sure are goofier then we expect sometimes. I had an irate person come from a over a hundred yards away through cones and lines directly into the fall zone and start griping at a crew I happened to be working with at the finish of a 36 inch backcut. People were telling him what to do and he was so belligerent that I marched into him chest to chest kept my hands off him and walked him backwards as the tree slammed into the earth behind us; goofy.
Putting a dent in the side of that van should be the least of your worries. I know I am sitting in a chair and you are the one risking your life in a tree but I have one question. I noticed it wasn't until you were very high in that tree that you started tying off twice. Several times your saw came too close to your lifeline with no other backup at all. A chainsaw can zip right through even a steel core lanyard, there are RUclips videos to prove it. You are wearing gloves, a bee could sting you or your grip on that saw could slip a little bit, touch that rope and you will be on your way to the ground. Think about living in a wheelchair, being bed ridden or worse and I bet you can figure out a way to bring an extra safety line with you for backup. I know it it is bothersome and takes more time but even if a rope below allowed you to fall ten feet that would be better than bouncing off the ground. I have worked construction all my life and if you don't constantly think about safety you can suffer very bad consequences. Be safe! Good luck!
The flip line has a steel cable core, which a chainsaw won't 'just zip through'! His secondary safety line could have been better positioned. Always plenty of comments from armchair critics who have no experience in what they comment on.
I'm thankful that the outcome here is much better than I was expecting. I say here sweating, becoming more nauseated as the end approached. I was really fearjng a near worst case scenario. This guy has to be 6-7 stories off the ground. Hell no! I went to college in Florida. My apartment was on the 3rd floor. The balcony was at the tops of the palm trees and I was nicely hidden away. That was nice. What's crazy is thst I love flying and would do it all day, everyday. No fear of flying. At all. But to go up so high in a tree or a radio tower, even tall skyscrapers....nope. If it's attached to the ground, I'm scared shitless to go way up high on it. Weird how that works out.
Nice miss, after the cringe moment when you were waiting to hear glass. I agree the driver seemed completely oblivious, like he stopped because it was raining trees outside and wanted to watch.
I try to not run the chipper in a busy environment like that, and my ground guys know, when the top or something large comes down near traffic to do better than that. I carry 2 stop/ slow signs all the time ,even got some cones I keep on the chipper, cmon guys.
I read a few comments,,, and I tend to agree,, a ground man should have stopped trafic. But,,, Trafic does not always stop. I had to back a dumpster truck out onto a busy road, below the crest of a hill. Orange hard hat, reflective vest, shovel in hand... and when the time came, I stepped out into the travel lane and put my hand up in a stop sign. Twice on different days, one man, one woman,, accelerated around me hard, instead of stopping, and darn near drove right under a 40 yard container and truck. So,,, I am convinced that you could put up a road closed sign,,, and someone would still come down the street to see why,,,,,AND stop right in the line of fall.
That was awesome. Like watching a gymnast perform somersault's on the beam and not being able to watch because it looks so dangerous and they could fall.
21:07 someone was fucking the dog not paying attention what was the ground guys doing were they on lunch break or something? That could've killed somebody and there doesn't appear to be a lot of communication between the groundsman and the climber, which is super important to keep everybody safe.
You use only your steel core flip for some time with no secondary anchor..ok you put your main life line round a branch after but for a long time only relying in a flip (steel or not) those can still be cut through. Also your hand signal with regards the car could easily be interpreted as let the car come through. You look comfortable and I don't dought you felt confident and you know how to cut trees but I know from personal experience the error of complacency. Let's all be our tree brothers keeper.

When you're doing it that long you get used to it sometimes you do it a couple inches when you're chuck big pieces down

actualy it was not planed to fall then. you can see him signaling that the 2 cars can pass becaus he tought the tree was not gona fall. but when he removed his saw it fell by mistake
doesnt matter. u dont put warning up 10 seconds before he falls the tree. this is something you do before u start climbing! he fucked up and m,ade a mistake which is exactly what i said . thanks for telling me in your own words....

The groundsmen was definitely at fault here. When your climber is taking the top stand in the street and by no means let a car go by. Really lucky and close call. Signs and cones are also your best friend. Awesome video

I love your easy going tactic to remove the tree definitely would like to see the rest of the video. Just two things. When I’m working near a road as such I leave no room for guessing when it comes to pedestrians. I had many take the chance to cross the kill zone even when cones and other safety steps were in place. But the biggest great step is to have men in the road as a live communicator to possibly pedestrians coming in the area at that moment when death is falling. And I think that driver thought you signal them to pass through when you waved your hand. May be a good thing to have some radio talky when your so high up. Great work love it. God bless.
I was a climber for twelve years with a Professional company. If my boss ( the best one I ever had) had come upon that job site we would all have been fired.
*That near miss is the VERY reason in Tennessee now you have to have cones out blocking people from coming through your work area. if you don't have them it's a HUGE fine*

That's true but here was the mistake as I observed and I'm not in that line of work. The cutter up the tree saw the van coming. He stopped his cut and waved below to let the van pass even though he had cut 2/3rds through. I guess his past experience was that last 3rd would hold. Where was the supervisor? I don't do this kind of work but I've worked with wood. Once the cut is more than halfway through, it can easily sheer away compared to being uncut. Side comment. It bugged me when he had one of the belts over a 1 inch limb. But the main belt was around the trunk. Also, cutting limbs just a few inches away from the main belt. He had faith in his skill.
@@tigerzero5216 Absolutely. That's a beautiful liitle saw for precision work, but still you need trust in your hand. That thin branch would have scared me as well. And yeah, starting the back cut before making sure traffic was stopped was a mistake.

Safety lines (whatever the "professionals" like to call them), just looping it over a small branch - which would possibly not take a fall.. surely it should go over a branch on the other side of the trunk (less "shear force on the branch" - or tie a "french prusik" or - even just a couple of wraps around the trunk and back to the belt - other friction hitch around the trunk... )
To all of the climbers out there, dont ever put you climbing rope on those little limbs. Always go around the main trunk of the tree, or use 2 safety straps, Unsafe work on this video.

Wheres the road work signs, the private sector doesn't have to follow rules . No traffic control how do these guys work and not get hurt or the public. Take every precaution cuz you don't get many second chances.

I hate some climbers who are snobs and think they dont have to help clean up and now that I climb I still feel everybody on the job is a ground guy and I'd drag brush for you any day man, subscribing!

It's all their fault. First of all the guy in the tree should have been wise enough not to let the cars through. Secondly his groundcrew should have been aware of his misjudgement and stopped the car. Thirdly if the car was a bit smarter he would not have ride through and then stopped. Best would have been just stopped, but since he didn't, second best would have been driving through without stopping right at the point of the tree. All people in this video made a mistake at the exact same time, but I guess it's easier said and done. Which person fucked up most is free for personal opinion to be judged :P

If you look closly before the driver makes the right turn in to that street. The dude on the tree signs to him that its okey for both cars to pass. BUT he missjudged the "cut" he had made in the tree, he didnt know it whas gonna fall when it did.

I sure miss those days . I wonder if any of the guys I worked with at Timberline in northvancouver ever come on these youtube video's ? I know Mike started his own tree company and called it Cut above , and now I think its Tree people . I remember working with Richey First , crazy , guy . He would just storm up that tree , branches flying everywhere ………...in the bush of course , we were doing dangerous tree removal for hydro on Keats island . I remember being so proud of myself for climbing so fast and so high and then I felt a poke in my bum and I looked behind me and one of our guys had free climbed all the way up and poked me in the ass with his finger . What a gang .
As a man who started as a branch manager AKA ground guy lol I now climb and hang off the ball (crane for those who don't know), its nice to see the effort you put in for the ground guys with the branches you cut and hold how you drop them butt end facing the right direction and dont make a birds nest to pick up at the end (that fahkn sux!!). Nice job brotha, thank you for sharing! And all these guys bitchn about you tieing in on the branches and how they follow ALL rules and regulations AHAHAHA ya OK , its safe as long as tight to the trunk, which you know because thats what you did so they can suck it.

Personally, I'm concerned with the cars and more concernd with the climbing line around one limb up the tree. Yeah, I see the wire core flip line, however, put yout climbing line around the stem so you aren't relying entirely on one limb. You have far more "fuses" for failure and in worst case a knot or just friction in the outer bark of the tree. Yes, you have the flip line but we are trained on two tie ins for cutting. Not very effective if you Gaff out and put all your weight on that one limb holding you up. Stay safe Brother!

Yes I definitely agree I started out as a groundman chipping brush and learn to climb in climbing for 20 years never seen anybody try to wrap their safety line and their main line around a branch if you cut that that's it you're all done that high up you will never climb again you'll be lucky if you live

TreeCraft, Here's a tip. TRAFFIC CONTROL. 1: The only vehicles on the street should be yours. The neighbors should move their cars before you start. You should have talked to them the day before to let them know what will be happening. 2: Cones or barricades. Use one of your vehicles if you have to, even an empty trailer would work if you don't have any other barricades. BUT- In your line of work you should already have traffic barricades. 3: The guy up top needs to look and wait for the ground crew to pick up the limbs and move away before dropping the next limb. Speed Kills. -- Glad no one was hurt. Stay Safe. Stay safer in the future.

This is a good example of poor arboricultural practice. Poor communication, poor choice of anchor point (the branches used are all far too small and your lifeline isn't attached til you're some way up the tree) and breaking one of the elementary rules of basic felling: once the back cut has begun you DO NOT allow ANYONE to pass through the drop zone. Also your groundies are standing in the road wearing dark clothing, no hi-vis. If someone drives past gawking at the tree someone's going to get hurt. Also no signage or cones. In this game, complacency kills.
Ok I'm based in the UK so we've got nanny state health and safety here but this is all basic stuff and as such I can't apologise for my comment.
Used to live in the UK, and those crazy rules and regulations drove me insane at first, but then I saw all the merits, and the necessity of them, so I say, that is rather the proper way to do things as you guys doing it over there.

Wish we had Go-Pros when I was doing water towers in '74. Simple bosins chair, 5/8" manilla rope - scrape n paint, sandblast & spray suspended from railing (O/S catwalk, ladder, trusses & beams - I/S ladders n spider-rods). It was all fun. We just worked with what we had and/or improvised.

I would say put out cones prior to starting work. This way civilians are aware that there is a potential hazard in that area. Great idea to have groundies on the road to stop traffic. Good job though on the removal. I would suggest practicing cutting slightly into the collar to "steer" the limbs instead of undercut and top cut. Douggies are great for this!

I know , when I was topping I always made sure I was cutting at waist height so if saw ever was to kick back it wouldn't cut my neck , and I always kept away from the scare strap when cutting branches . He seemed too close to his scare strap when he was knicking those branches .
he was making me nervous doing that..as well as looping his line around those small branches..not to mention i was feeling dizzy...lol

ground crew knew top was coming and didn't stop van, but 15' top had drop zone clearance
Kinda tough to explain but the short story is always keep your saw running full speed in the back cut or slide it out. There is this chance that you can get the chain hooked into the wood as the chunk breaks free and then it is gonna want to take your saw with it. If your stubborn like me then your saw is gonna wanna take you with it. If your a willow tree with a lanyard around you then your gonna wanna go with the climber. If you are familiar with a catapult then you can imagine a climber doing an airwalk while rolling down the windows at the end of his lanyard until his hand without the running saw latches onto the top of the tree. That also means if you have adrenal glands that your knees are shaking and you have pedal foot and if that is happening your tree buddy is on the ground laughing and that means he gets to go up the tree next. Also do not cut with only one tie in point, especially a single spar top cut. OSHA requires that you have a rope that terminates to one point on the harness up top. I do not abide because I am more stable with the lanyard up top and I put my topline down lower where it can be a redundant safety anchor in case of a rope getting cut or an absurd ride in the convertible and my lanyard were to get ejected over the top. Also a topline that is properly set can get you an immediate emergency egress in case of an emergency like a nasty cut or a huge bald headed hornets nest that makes you consider just jumping to end it all. I like to slide the chainsaw out and away from myself as though finishing a sword cut to avoid unwanted wood attachment. In fact always treat your chainsaw like a sword you are swinging and you might avoid some mishaps. you would not swing a sword through a branch with your arm behind it but apparently people think they can hold onto branches behind their cut and never pay for it. some safety nazis that cannot seem to stay unhurt better than me always finish their cuts with a straight bladed hand saw and that is not a bad idea especially in tight quarters or when man handling is part of the game. You certainly cannot blame the driver but people sure are goofier then we expect sometimes. I had an irate person come from a over a hundred yards away through cones and lines directly into the fall zone and start griping at a crew I happened to be working with at the finish of a 36 inch backcut. People were telling him what to do and he was so belligerent that I marched into him chest to chest kept my hands off him and walked him backwards as the tree slammed into the earth behind us; goofy.
Putting a dent in the side of that van should be the least of your worries.
I know I am sitting in a chair and you are the one risking your life in a tree but I have one question.
I noticed it wasn't until you were very high in that tree that you started tying off twice.
Several times your saw came too close to your lifeline with no other backup at all.
A chainsaw can zip right through even a steel core lanyard, there are RUclips videos to prove it.
You are wearing gloves, a bee could sting you or your grip on that saw could slip a little bit, touch that rope and you will be on your way to the ground.
Think about living in a wheelchair, being bed ridden or worse and I bet you can figure out a way to bring an extra safety line with you for backup.
I know it it is bothersome and takes more time but even if a rope below allowed you to fall ten feet that would be better than bouncing off the ground.
I have worked construction all my life and if you don't constantly think about safety you can suffer very bad consequences.

The flip line has a steel cable core, which a chainsaw won't 'just zip through'! His secondary safety line could have been better positioned.

I'm thankful that the outcome here is much better than I was expecting. I say here sweating, becoming more nauseated as the end approached. I was really fearjng a near worst case scenario.
This guy has to be 6-7 stories off the ground. Hell no! I went to college in Florida. My apartment was on the 3rd floor. The balcony was at the tops of the palm trees and I was nicely hidden away. That was nice.
What's crazy is thst I love flying and would do it all day, everyday. No fear of flying. At all. But to go up so high in a tree or a radio tower, even tall skyscrapers....nope. If it's attached to the ground, I'm scared shitless to go way up high on it. Weird how that works out.

I try to not run the chipper in a busy environment like that, and my ground guys know, when the top or something large comes down near traffic to do better than that. I carry 2 stop/ slow signs all the time ,even got some cones I keep on the chipper, cmon guys.
I read a few comments,,, and I tend to agree,, a ground man should have stopped trafic. But,,, Trafic does not always stop. I had to back a dumpster truck out onto a busy road, below the crest of a hill. Orange hard hat, reflective vest, shovel in hand... and when the time came, I stepped out into the travel lane and put my hand up in a stop sign. Twice on different days, one man, one woman,, accelerated around me hard, instead of stopping, and darn near drove right under a 40 yard container and truck. So,,, I am convinced that you could put up a road closed sign,,, and someone would still come down the street to see why,,,,,AND stop right in the line of fall.
I'm going to have a nightmare of falling from a tree to my death after watching this.

You use only your steel core flip for some time with no secondary anchor..ok you put your main life line round a branch after but for a long time only relying in a flip (steel or not) those can still be cut through. Also your hand signal with regards the car could easily be interpreted as let the car come through.
You look comfortable and I don't dought you felt confident and you know how to cut trees but I know from personal experience the error of complacency.
