My favorite season as a Sox fan, even though they didn’t make the playoffs. Harry and Jimmy in the booth. Crazy enthusiasm in the fans. And I was at this game, I had free tickets from school for perfect attendance and straight As. Jim Spencer’s grand slam landed about 5-6 rows directly in front of our seats. And because this was a national TV game, Harry was doing the radio broadcast from the center field bleachers. He had a thing for Rod Carew, so I made a poster that said “Hey Harry! It’s RRROD CARRREW” and my friend and I carried it over near where he was sitting when Rod Carew came up to bat. They had the radio broadcast playing behind the bleachers and as we were returning to our seats, we heard Harry laugh and he acknowledged our poster on the air! Great times!
1977. one of my favorite childhood summers. I was probably in the stands that day. We even had subway series iron-ons, since the cubs were above 500 and even in first for a bit if I remember correctly. Great video. Also remember TWIB not showing Sox highlights too much, so this is a nice rarity.
thanks for uploadig spencer was my uncle died when i was in eighth grade hee was also one of the best?underated fielding first baseman to ever put on a glove
rushmore120 I agree, but it would have cost a lot to restore. The real problem is that new stadium was poorly designed. I’d definitely reconfigure the seating. You’d lose some seats, but more people would have a better view, and you’re not selling out most games as it is.
@@gman2506 I'm not sure what he meant either but maybe he was referring to when the ballpark first opened in 1991 but since then the stadium has been rebuilt and is way better now than it was when it first opened. Even when it first opened up it was still a way better quality park just didn't have the history of the old park.
I was there for that Sunday doubleheader sweep of the Twins. I think it was the first time Nancy Faust played "Na Na Hey Hey" to serenade a pitcher leaving the mound.

White Sox uniforms have ALWAYS been cutting edge. Fuck the Yankees and their pinstripes. We had em forever too
I loved these too they were unique with the blue collar and blue pants. Nobody had ever done uniforms quite like these and it's sad to see that these went away after 1981. They should've been a mainstay going forward for more teams than just the White Sox.
They had a real good excting team that year. Hit 190 home runs which was unheard of for a White Sox team that hit in old Comiskey park. everything changed the following year as they unloaded a lot of their top hitters.
That was a great summer to attend my first white sox game. And many exciting games I saw there that summer , and so many exciting games. Man , multiple homers in every game. Must have been just as exciting for north siders , Cub fans , in 1969 . As Harry Carey use to say "Can't best fun at the old ballpark ".
That's Mel Allen speaking. He was the Yankees announcer , and the host of this week in baseball every Saturday afternoon. "How About That ". And maybe I was at that game . An exciting season , but as always the Yankees take it. And the K.C. Royals too.
The 70s era White Sox was the best era seemed like most of the great history happened with the franchise when Bill Veeck owned the team. These were the best uniforms too I don't care what anybody says I enjoyed the home look with the blue collar and blue pants. Nobody was doing a look like these uniforms and the away look with the blue tops and white pants wasn't bad either.
The White Sox also provided the opposition in the Toronto Blue Jays' first official game. That was at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. Boy, was it cold and snowy that day. The Blue Jays won the game.
@@docadams7099 Yeah, you're right on April 7, 1977 the White Sox came into a cold snowy Toronto for that first game at Exhibition Stadium which was outdoors. Jays didn't play under a roof until 1989 when SkyDome opened.

Look at the ball hit the right field foul line at 0:46 and bounce off it. That's because it's not chalk on the grass, it's an old fire hose that was flattened and painted white.

And the South Side Hitmen were born! Cool clip from "This Week in Baseball" narrated by Mel Allen, an iconic voice.
