This channel needs more damn love!!! Belong to a gym where temporary owners got rid of most of their good cable attachments. The soft loop tie-downs have been a REVELATION!!!
Thank you, Jim! I appreciate it!!! I am planning volume 3 of the Soft Loop Tiedown Strap series right now, and it should be out in about a month. Thank you for supporting the channel, Brother! 💪🤘🙏
I’m going to try this!! I belong to a commercial gym that doesn’t have a safety bar. Due to shoulder injury, I haven’t back-squatted in many many months, so this would be perfect, as I can’t carry a safety bar in my gym bag 😂
The ssb is better and will give you great benefits in your squat performance. Not a bad move. Use his idea if you want to still do back squats but with handles. Good move buying the ssb they are totally worth it
@@DesignBuildLift so I've had some slings for doing leg raises but they were slipy that I'd been using. Picked up a roll of the shelf linner and it's much better and less awkward. You bring some real unique ideas to a very crowded space and I hope you really gain the subs you deserve man 👍
Great question. Use longest plumbing nipples possible (length depends upon which straps you use)…and when holding onto the nipples - Pull them down and forward ( like you are doing a tricep extension). That being said, a REAL SSB Will obviously outperform this hack -especially when it comes to reducing wobble.
I have a small doubt... the strings you use are 18 cm or 18 inches. In the link you left in the video description to Amazon, first it says one thing and then another. Is that 18 inches is about 45 cm? I love your channel and I find it very useful, a very commendable work, the truth. Greetings from Spain and keep up the good work....
The ones I used are advertised as 18 inches , but are actually 17 inches but my measurement. Thank you for supporting the channel!!!! I appreciate it!🤘🙏💪
Make no mistake, that does not make a safety squat bar. A safety squat bar has a bend in the middle such that the weight loads in front of your neck and turns the bar forward, clamping the arms over your shoulders. It's because of this gravitational clamping that you can remove your hands from the arms without worrying about the bar rolling off. It's locked in place. This setup... does not do that. Why do you care? Well... the fact that a safety bar clamps onto your shoulders means that if you are having trouble repping out, instead of using a spotter, you can spot yourself by pushing down on your knees. This lightens the load on your quads and glutes and allows you to cheat out that last rep instead of being spotted.
Yes . Many have already made that comment. As I told them. I agree- it’s not a SSB. However, it approximates the Spud Inc SSB strap (but their version is obviously better quality). I made this video so that people with shoulder pain/impingements can try the movement with this setup - at very little cost. If they like it - they can then spring for the Spud Inc SSB strap - or buy a real SSB. Anyways- thank you for your comment and thank you for supporting the channel! 🤘🤘🤘
Yes - a washer would certainly work as well. If you build this - and want to brag on IG - please use the #DesignBuildLift hashtag- so that i can feature your creation on my IG account. Thank you! 🤘
Thank you for supporting the channel! While this hack may save you from some shoulder pain- you still may opt to buy the real thing eventually to get the full (cambered) benefits of a SSB
I watch a lot of yt, and a lot of diy videos for home gym stuff. This magnet idea on dumbells is a mind bomb. I'm sure it takes a good bit to set up a jig or just take the time to measure out the specs on the drill press, but after that, hit the stick with a chop saw, then glue and screw and its pretty much done. Great way to do drop sets.
So this would not simulate a ssb this is jus good for someone with shoulder issues perhaps, spud inc makes something to go on a bar that is exactly this they say the same thing but it does not resemble a ssb since the camber of the bar isn't there the weight isn't drifted out in front of u slightly light it would be ... also just use 2 lifting straps and that's the same thing u did with way less
I agree that there is no camber here, and that buying a real SSB would be “better.” No contest. But by using this hack, I think people can try the movement for $4 - and if they like it - can graduate to purchasing a real SSB. As far as using lifting straps are concerned, I disagree. Those can slide. If you are lifting heavy, you want them to be “locked on” - and this design REALLY locks the straps on. By connecting the straps together and using the shelf liner…it is LOCKED on. Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your take on this. 🤘💪🙏
The only problem is it's not an ssb and this won't give the benefits of an ssb. Great if you just want to protect your shoulders or work around a shoulder injury.
Your going to get someone hurt. The bar has to be camberd.that's what keeps the bar from falling backwards. That barbell is going to slip off your shoulders and pull you back with it.😢
That could happen with a regular barbell squat just as well....with or without straps. By holding onto straps that have a working load limit of over 3000 LBS, the risk of injury does not increase.
Peej, you are a mad man! This is such a great idea. I am very impressed with the low cost and ease of use. Nice!
Thanks, Brother!

Going to watch later. If not covered in the video; how do you avoid the "bar wobble"?

Cool, but I'd just use a big 1" washer each side with the clips as you did and skip the floor flange and short pipe.
