The media are a disgrace. A child was murdered and not one of them is focusing or thinking on that, all they are talking about is the tweet Kellie posted, which highlighted what the poor child went through.

Refusing to boycott it was also a political decision. I mean the general argument here is that immigration "adds to culture". I note interestingly that this language refrained from stating whether that was positive or not.
In any case that isn't the point of Ms Harrington's tweet. Ms. Harrington was making a link to a number of murders committed by immigrants. Perhaps the point to be discussed here is not so much the concept of immigration but the quality of immigrant and the control measures in place to stop criminals from coming here. Unless of course off the ball are of the view that more crime is adding to the culture in a positive way. Please advise.
Maybe Ms. Harrington wants a world where less Irish children are killed by immigrants running away from their homeland who happen to be violent and potentially highly dangerous to wherever they are going. Perhaps it might be sensible to vet and review applicants in case they happen to be violent psychopaths. I mean Irish people (in the main) acknowledge that we can't just rock up to the United States, Canada etc and claim a right to stay without challenge. There are certain criteria that must be met as well as passing several suitability checks. Why is it that we accept this of ourselves in other nations, nations with cultural compatibility and no language barrier, yet we are encouraging a blind eye to allow as many people as possible from lands and cultures so different from us and we're not even comfortable with the idea of a background check!
If that was her stance, why didn't she say that? She was given plenty of time to answer, was rude and ended the interview early. If she said "I stand by what I tweeted in October" then that's her stance. What sort of stance is "that was in October" or "you have an agenda." Firstly, I wonder why not a single Western European country has ever organised a referendum regarding extra-European immigration. Could it be because the probability that people would vote 'against' is high? 🤔
Secondly, was the Irish people ever consulted regarding the current levels of extra-European immigration? Gotta keep those big multinational CEOs happy and bring them cheap labour, I guess.
Also, please explain to me how multiculturalism is such a great thing? I mean, it's great that the world is so diverse. But why should every country in the world be as diverse as possible? So that people can eat kebabs instead of ham sandwiches, drink mint tea instead of a pint of Guinness, smoke chichas instead of cigarettes? What's so great about having a diverse society? I want to see evidence that it works. So far, I have seen a lot of evidence that it doesn't. Countries such as Lebanon, South Africa and Brazil are very diverse culturally and ethnically. That didn't exactly go well for them, though, did it?
In my opinion, it can only lead to more ethnic, religious and cultural tensions, more insecurity, more crime, more terrorism, and eventually war (I'm not going to say 'civil' war because in order for there to be a civil war, it has to be people of one nation, one civilisation, fighting against each other, which will not be the case in Europe in the future, as a number of civilisations are currently living side by side, soon to be face to face).
Are Poland, Hungary, Romania, Portugal, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia etc... doing badly economically because they don't have enough diversity? I hear these countries are actually doing pretty well and extremely peaceful and safe.

I understand that the upper middle class, be they politicians, media people, students from wealthy backgrounds or others in this country are somewhat embarrassed by what they've labelled the far right facists of north inner city Dublin. I would like to propose a solution that would seemingly be beneficial to all parties.
We should build direct provision centres smack bang in the middle of Dublin 4, (preferably on the RTE campus) on the campuses of both UCD and Trinity college and several more dotted around main streets in some of the more affluent suburbs of Dublin.
That way those who are accusing Kellie here of not owning her views can be spared of the hypocrisy of not owning their own views and truly live on a day to day basis the diversity, cultural enrichment or whatever other buzzwords that they regularly spout toward the people of the north inner city. Those in the north inner city who feel they're having these values forced upon them without consultation or reprieve get to watch on as a different section of society get to enjoy them and everyone's a winner. Any objections to this plan in theory, despite the fact we know it will never happen?

Shane Hannon, what a hero, what a lion, what an example to all young people with his myriad acheivements in life. If Shane randomly pressed her on her views regarding immigration in a scenario where she had never made them public, that would be unfair. No one should be pressured to make privately held views public. But she chose to air them publicly, so it's only right that she be asked to discuss them to some extent.

To be fair Kellie and the spar representative our very poor there. Kellie is a great inspiration. Maybe what she said in October was inappropriate (I can't see it anyway).
People's attitude can change and Kellie was given ample time to give an updated view. To me Shane asked a fair question, could argue got a little pushy but that's only because Kellie refused to answer.
Personally I find the anti immigration protests disgusting, given Ireland has a strong history of emigrating. Our infrastructure especially the housing situation has failed many people and no doubt the intake of migrants adds more pressure.

What was the tweet specifically about?
It was so benign its laughable. A 12 year old girl had been murdered, raped and dismembered in France, and a group of immigrants had been arrested. GB News shared a video which said that there had been 12 separate murders in France alone by immigrants that year. Kellie quoted the tweet saying "So so sad." Then quoted the GB News title about the 12 murders by immigrants etc. I've no idea why anyone is even bothered by it
it was bout a 12 year old girl called Lola - who was murdered in France and one of 12 children who were murdered by migrants - she said that politicians should be looking out for this or something along those lines....!

This interviewer is punching down here, for me. He knew what he was doing imo. It may be badly handled and no he does not have to have a discussion, he is pushing his agenda fiercely, it's not his job to haul her over the coals and imply something that she clearly does not represent, and he knows she does not represent. It is parasitic behaviour from a journalist perhaps trying to make a name for himself. He knows how those segments work and he knows the protocol and he chose to essentially misrepresent her, because when you look at what she tweeted and subsequently deleted, you see that there is not an ounce of bigotry in her intention. The Newstalk OTB intention is clearly something else, as shown by the scramble by his colleagues to 'support' his journalistic integrity which he certainly imo compromised here. Barry Keoghan is a boxer, as well as an actor, and knows Kellie, and has come from 'nothing', well it's not 'nothing', he and Kellie come from inner city Dublin and that is not 'nothing'. So., if you are going to be particular about your words and insist on others being particular, take a look at your own choices. This interviewer, Shane, knows that the tweet might compromise her or at least put her is a position of being compromised if he frames the questions certain way, which he did dropping in the GB NEWS reference, when he knows, and I'm sure his producers know, that Kellie's original remark was in solidarity with the family of a 12 year old girl and the girl herself who suffered incredibly. So, in the end, it may be a pr disaster for the pr person or Kellie herself, but it says a lot more about how Newstalk do Their business. I sincerely hope that Kellie does not lose any sponsors over this media incident, and compromise her future with regards to sponsorship, simply because a 'journalist' would not let an issue that he created go. The problem is not the question even per say, but the pursuit of Kellie in this manner is insidious.

Shane is well within his parameters as a journalist to pose the question.
However, once it becomes apparent that Harrington is marking it as a no go zone, he needs to move on.
The exchange becomes painful viewing when he refuses to to leave it be.
Shane then tries to voice his views on the topic which are largely irrelevant. In fact, they weaken his position when he suggests to Kellie that she should agree with his immigration/diversity stance.
If I’m the Spar representative, I’m trying to redirect the line of questioning as well. To her credit, the rep waits a good bit before interjecting.
