Also, the game teaches you the basics of combat THEN you have to learn your characters fighting style or martial arts. Wow, this video is what happens when somebody that know absolutely nothing about fighting games makes a video about them, saying that Virtua Fighter is "simple" is just proof of how little you guys know about the franchise, VF is just the game everyone who really knows about fighting games respect, the only "negative" thing about VF is that is not as "flashy" as other FG's, but the game itself is amazing, please search for somebody who knows what they are talking about next time.
@@Scientists_dont_lie Not so son, Tekken has more unique characters, more fighting moves, chain grabs, just frames ect....one character on tekken can have move than 100 different attacks or throws. Tekken has one of the most difficult moves to pull off in any fighting game...the Mishima electric uppercut. VF doesn't have a move this deadly or difficult to pull off. It's a reason why tekken is still around and VF is dead.
I've tried to get into Tekken but I just can't play it. It's not bad or anything but Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter are really the only 3D fighters for me.
I mean... That makes sense. If you really think about it VF is more simple than Tekken, personally i see that as one of its strengths (Yu Suzuki wanted VF to be simple and easy to understand) Afterall VF is mostly glorified Rock, Paper, Scissors with reactions.
Combat should've went to Sega. Sega introduced Tooo much new shit in fighters that everybody stole from to update their respective games. .. This Shouldn't have been that much of a blowout with Biased categories. Both games are Great..
That's too late for that now, they've compared these 2 franchises because they came out 1 year apart from each other (Virtua Fighter in 1993 & Tekken in 1994), DOA didn't come out until 1996, 1 year after Soul Edge/Blade which became the Soul Calibur series in 1995. Edit: That's right, "Taki" is the very first 3-D Big Boob Ninja Girl in 3-D Fighting Games, sorry "Kasumi" and "Ayane."
as soon as they used more buttons as an equivalent of more depth I knew they had know idea what fighting games are really about virtua fighter has much more emphasis on yomi and plays out more like an educated battle between masters rather than a street brawl between rookies. (btw if you don't know what yomi is you probably think tekken is a deeper fighter than vf)
I like and still play both. I thought VF 1 was cool but VF 2 blew my mind and I have loved the series ever since. I didn't really get into Tekken until TK 3. Been a fan ever since. Love Tekken 5. I think one reason VF isn't more popular because it takes itself more seriously then Tekken. No Dinosaurs or raptors or Michael Bay action type story line. Just straight up fighting. I like them both for what they offer.

I played and kinda liked Tekken 2 (PS) and Tekken 3 on Dreamcast via Bleemcast BUT i f*#!ing LOVE the high learning curve and depht of the Virtua Fighter games! VF is the much better choice for serious tournament players but Tekken is without any doubt the better choice for casual players. That's the reason why 80% of gamers prefer the Tekken series...
VF 4 Evo is probably my favorite fighting game. The ranking system (that Tekken later copied) and the character customization (again, that Tekken later copied) made progression feel awesome. And that Arcade tournament quest made the game feel so complete, w/o the need for ridiculous storied content.
the reason for all these tekken fanboys is simply that not as many people played virtua fighter games coz ps outsould the saturn like 234234 to 1. but VF2 was better than any fighting game on playstation
I actually prefer the combat system in Virtua Fighter, feels more smooth and natural, and the graphics in VF 5 totally beat Tekken, but Tekken does have more aesthetic appeal
"Virtua Fighter's combat is fairly simple.." ........ Paused video. Went to watch something else. I don't know why I watch these "lists" expecting actual knowledge of the subject. One of the main reasons VF never gained the kind of popularity Tekken did over here, besides the fact that the characters were rather bland in comparison to most other fighting games, was how /prohibitively difficult/ the game was at any level past intermediate. To most American gamers, VF4 onward seemed nearly impenetrable beyond the most intermediate level of gameplay. Whatever your taste, that is not my issue. Like what you want to like. But, dammit all, be /factual/ for shab's sake. Fairly simple, my eye. *Edited for odd spelling errors*
Indeed, I did mention how VF's cast was "rather bland in comparison". Of that, there is no question. But, with the same brutal honesty, to say VF's combat was "fairly simple" while even positing that Tekken's combat is more complex is /criminally/ negligent.
Tekken has better fighting mechanics than Virtua Fighter? You gotta be kidding me... And i would argue about lasting appeal: Tekken is smth similar to popcorn, whereas VF is lasagne. It is not so one-sided as it looks in your video, although I appreciate your opinion.
Sorry guys, i will always prefer Virtua Fighter. And believe me, I put 100s of hours into tekken 3, but when i played VF3, then VF4, i fell in love with the simple yet complex combat mechanics. Plus all the fighting styles were different, but realistic. I'll always love tekken, but VF has the #1 for me. Oh, plus Akira Yuki crushes all similar characters. Baddest mofo ever.
Jazza what tekken 7 got right eventually. Virtual Fighter 2 got right, .back then. haha debate with me as much as you like. BUt virtual fighter, is one bad ass fighter. Its terms of how it plays. And the variety of martial arts and real fighting mechanics. Tekken is fine. But i felt it was too commercial. Sony Psx had its glory days. But Virtual Fighter man... That set the bench mark.
What a joke... Virtua Fighter 5 is one of the most well-crafted fighting games ever. It's a damn shame that it never held a solid audience in the US. Japan knows what's up, though... VF is a God among fighting games there.
I'm not really trying to argue VF is better, only that this video is being particularly harsh and biased. They even admit they don't play much VF, so how can they really judge these fairly if the amount of play time is so disparate between the two? VF5 is an amazing fighting game and deserves better than to be bashed into obscurity. It's like the only reason they made this video was to hate on VF.
Can you please explain to me how Virtua fighter 5 is a more well crafted game ever? I need to know. Because studies and polls have been shown numerous times that Tekken is a more well versatile game than Virtua Fighter and even street fighter. Please Elaborate on your opinion.
If you only remember Virtua fighter for what it was and not what it is today then youre missing out. Virtua Fighter 5R is absolutely astonishing. The fighting engine in Virtua Fighter 5R is the most deep, seemless, and fast paced traditional 3D fighting to date. Tekken is a wonderful fighting series, but more buttons does not always mean more depth and the fact that you would so haphazardly make that decision shows your lack of understanding of the genre imo. Eitherway, I love both series greatly, just wish Virtua Fighter got more love lol.
I'm a big fan of both, but I prefer fighting games with powers included. My only problem with MK's is that it's infinite, you can just spam special moves all ya want.
I agree with other posters. Virtua Fighter is the genesis of 3D fighters, but by now has effectively merged with Dead or Alive which was also spawned from it back in Saturn days. Dead or Alive vs Tekken would have been a far closer match up, and one which shows the true progression of Virtua Fighter to date in my opinion.
VF is a lot more versatile in its fighting mechanics compared to Tekken. Tekken is all about chain combos whereas as VF is more about frame combo's (or whatever you call it). Thats why Tekken can me considered 'stiff' compared to VF. VF is more technical in it's fighting mechanics and opens up more combo possibilities and allows you to be more creative (like in Street Fighter) whereas in Tekken the combo's are pretty much pre-determined (not that it's a bad thing, it's the way the game is designed).
So they talk about the improvement of combos and attacks in the Tekken franchise and didn't even mention the now very complex attacking techniques in VF, they just mentioned the first VF but with Tekken went all the way to the current generation. BIASED BULLSHIT.
Tekken's combos are stupid though, it's like one good parry and then pure memorization and then you have like a 70% combo down. Virtua Fighter has a decent counter system, is more grounded and more technical most say. Tag Tourney 2's Tag system is kind of overly convoluted compared to DoA5's too, the swaps take a second or two, you have to make sure you do the right kind of switch too (a full switch or just step-in) and it has to be on appropriate moves kind of. DoA5 is like: press a button, other character instantly swaps in, do the moves you intend to. Tekken and SF have better interface, extra content and energy to draw you in, but I think KoF, DoA and VF are superior when it comes down to gameplay.
True. on VF the combat is hard and seems to be a real life fighting game unlike Tekken. Tekken has pretty easy combos unlike VF. VF is more realistic when It comes to combat
Tekken is one of my all time favourite game series. But c'mon, people in the comments... Virtua Fighter pioneered the genre and then evolved to be one of the best, most balanced and subtly nuanced fighting games out there. I still think Tekken is the superior series overall, and it's the one I enjoy more. But people dismissing VF out of hand are really missing out.
I grew up with Tekken, and I had no doubt that its traits would surpass those of Virtua Fighter. Now I better run before Segata knocks me out cold. Props to those who get that reference. :D
The difference? Tekken - Asia's #1 most popular fighter more times than not. One of the best worldwide. Millions of players, old and new. Great, deep mechanics. Virtua Fighter - Life support provided by Asia, one of the best, great deep mechanics, like 12 players. 13 on a good day.
Tekken: 1. Better and much more interesting character designs 2. Fighting feels more hyped and fun 3. Tekken overall is just fun and enjoyable. Virtua Fighter: 1. More realistic 2. Ring outs 3. DON'T WORRY EVEN IF VF IS (DEAD OR ALIVE) IS CONTINUING WHERE VF FELL OFF THE MAP AS IT'S FOLLOWER. ;D :P
If I want story I would watch an actual Anime, or read a comic book, or play an RPG. Fighting games turn to crap once you try to weave a sensible storyline with all the different characters.
@June VF is litterally better in almost every single objective way. The only thing Tekken has is more characters. but even then most of them are useless at a high level.
Virtua fighter is a simple game... LOL. Try mastering Akira Yuki in any of them, and then get back to me on how simple VF is. Someone got enamored with Tekken's razzle dazzle.
I wish Tekken had those dynamic wall attacks from Virtua Fighter, and also they should add the Yakuza charakters to the Virtua Fighter roster if they ever make Virtua Fighter 6 it'll be cool to see Kiryu, Ryuji, Majima, Saejama, Akiyama, Tanimura, Shinada, etc.
Fighters in general are silly and Tekken is okay but Virtua Fighter practically gave fighters everything. Also... variety is not quality. We were talking about street fighter vs tekken in the same way with a guy I know. Tekken is for button mashers. I personally, even though I don't even have a console, could beat you with at least three characters where I know the combos so much you have to get me at the first hit to avoid going down in a series of annoying combos that never let you gain control of your character. And that is just stupid. It's annoying, while games like Street Fighter and Virtua require more skills and training to execute a perfect combo without any button mashing and in them you can always turn the table. They're not flashy, but they're actually engaging.
I like Virtua Fighter but the one player game was severely limited next to Tekken due to no character endings which was and is standard in most other fighting games which gives motivation to learn your favourite character and play through the Arcade mode and improve your skills
I wonder if half the people in the comments have ever even played Virtua fighter..
TBH i'm shure most of them never heard the name "Virtua Fighter"... :(

The game is seriously dense which is a turn off when you consider fighting games to be more of a arcade pick up and play. Overall, I agree with the video but Combat should go to VF.
I wonder if the person who wrote this text has ever played Virtua Fighter
Right?
It's clear that he doesn't know what he is talking about.
The amount of hate for virtua fighter is insane.
It's kinda sad tbh
"Without Virtua Fighter there be no tekken" nuff said
sgarcia103 same here, tekken wouldn't be where it is today if it was not for virtua fighter
that doesn't necessarily mean Virtua Fighter is better, just that if Virtua Fighter hadn't existed, Tekken most likely wouldn't have existed either
sgarcia103 complete bollocks
Virtual Fighter has a complete fighting style to Tekken.
The Planet's Guardian Bollocks!!!
I love the cast of tekken but the gameplay of VF is better.
It is an honor to be on one of your videos :)!! #Tekken
I love you Alisa 💜
Wow, this video is what happens when somebody that know absolutely nothing about fighting games makes a video about them, saying that Virtua Fighter is "simple" is just proof of how little you guys know about the franchise, VF is just the game everyone who really knows about fighting games respect, the only "negative" thing about VF is that is not as "flashy" as other FG's, but the game itself is amazing, please search for somebody who knows what they are talking about next time.
Erik Agreed.
It's is "simple" it doesn't have nearly the depth that Tekken has.
@@syminite1 disagree.. VF is more Complex. Tekken is just about juggling a dropped fighter.
Was thinking the same thing when I watched
I've tried to get into Tekken but I just can't play it. It's not bad or anything but Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter are really the only 3D fighters for me.
Never liked Tekken, too cheap and casual for me, all the real hardcore went with Virtua Fighter from what I always saw.
"Tekken has a button for each limb, so its combat is more advanced than Virtua Fighter's." Holy shit, that's rage-inducing.
I mean... That makes sense.
If you really think about it VF is more simple than Tekken, personally i see that as one of its strengths (Yu Suzuki wanted VF to be simple and easy to understand)
Afterall VF is mostly glorified Rock, Paper, Scissors with reactions.
Thesch 28 VF is nowhere near as simple as tekken, even the director of tekken admits that. Cmon man
Combat should've went to Sega. Sega introduced Tooo much new shit in fighters that everybody stole from to update their respective games. .. This Shouldn't have been that much of a blowout with Biased categories. Both games are Great..
At first, I thought Tekken was some sort of sequel or spin off of Virtua Fighter
Teen Titans vs Young Justice
I'd say Young Justice myself but that is just my opinion. lol
Young Justice is far above Teen Titans, the only sad part is CN cancelled it too early due to toy sales.
Young Justice all the way. More characters and better animation too. I love the old Teen Titans though, but really waiting for the new YJ season.
I own both series, and I've got to say VF is the one I go back to. It just plays better.
Should be virtua fighter vs dead or alive , two games that are more similar
DOA is way more aggressive tho
That's too late for that now, they've compared these 2 franchises because they came out 1 year apart from each other (Virtua Fighter in 1993 & Tekken in 1994), DOA didn't come out until 1996, 1 year after Soul Edge/Blade which became the Soul Calibur series in 1995.
Edit: That's right, "Taki" is the very first 3-D Big Boob Ninja Girl in 3-D Fighting Games, sorry "Kasumi" and "Ayane."
Right
@NoLaKazi they're very similar
as soon as they used more buttons as an equivalent of more depth I knew they had know idea what fighting games are really about virtua fighter has much more emphasis on yomi and plays out more like an educated battle between masters rather than a street brawl between rookies. (btw if you don't know what yomi is you probably think tekken is a deeper fighter than vf)
No, it just means your a weeb.
@@Nutt_lemmings salt
I like and still play both. I thought VF 1 was cool but VF 2 blew my mind and I have loved the series ever since. I didn't really get into Tekken until TK 3. Been a fan ever since. Love Tekken 5.
I think one reason VF isn't more popular because it takes itself more seriously then Tekken. No Dinosaurs or raptors or Michael Bay action type story line. Just straight up fighting. I like them both for what they offer.
VF2 was best VF, I felt. VF3 had a lot more outlandish and ridiculous moves that betrayed the more realistic feel of the earlier games.
tekken is my favorite fighting game of all time
Biased casuals that know nothing about Virtua Fighter and will blindly choose Tekken.
John Kinney an old head would choose tekken.
Tekken is superior to Virtual fighter in every way, virtual fighter design got left in the 90s, while Tekken kept growing.
Vittua fighter is the worst and shittiest
@Berserker you not playin tekken right then.
@@queencard97 depends wut rank he is. And he could mean easy as in he looked in the command list and he did a few of them and said fuck it I've seen it all, VF is harder and better.
Really?!?! Tekken random button smash gameplay is better than the VF?
True actually I love Tekken. I thank vf for making Tekken.
Agreed! Tekken is trash.
Tekken won the "Combat"? Are You Kidding Me?
DevilChry Gaming of course everytime
@Jeremy Dixon
VF combat is better, and it's not even close.
Tekken wins at everything
Virtua Fighter is better gameplay and balance wise. Tekken is just more popular.
D core
Be honest though, VF2 was better than any ps FG. It’s not even close.
I actually prefer the combat system in Virtua Fighter, feels more smooth and natural, and the graphics in VF 5 totally beat Tekken, but Tekken does have more aesthetic appeal
Lmao to be honest No VF moves slow and feels so unresponsive its just “ok” in my opinion Tekken is mire action packed and faster movement
@@lpgaming838 with lame ass low parry's and rage arts. Easy blocking highs med and lows.
@@sO_RoNerY yup vf is so complex than tekken tho
@@sO_RoNerY and also button mashing gets you nowhere on virtua fighter so vf all the way
"Virtua Fighter's combat is fairly simple.."
........
To be brutally honest, Tekken's cast of characters are more fleshed out and have much more personality compared to Virtua Fighter.
Indeed, I did mention how VF's cast was "rather bland in comparison". Of that, there is no question.
But, with the same brutal honesty, to say VF's combat was "fairly simple" while even positing that Tekken's combat is more complex is /criminally/ negligent.
ShinJudo Not to mention, Tekken is also more well known compared to Virtua Fighter.
Fuck watchmojo for this.
well their buttons are simple one punch, one kick and one guard thats it a 3 button fighter
Maybe there should be a Tekken x Virtua Fighter game anyone else thinks so
Like my childhood was Tekken, no fighting game will ever replace it
For me its Virtual FIghter. Just the music alone in Virtual Fighter 2 beats anything put out on any Tekken Game.
tekken 7 ost is pretty good
Jazza what tekken 7 got right eventually.
Hold on now. The Tekken 2 soundtrack has some pretty epic music too.
Tekken tag Tournament has a snoop dogg level with an snoop dogg song i mean
its the weed king so tekken has better music
***** Thanks bro. Ill have a listen to that. Tekken is an awesome series that only gets better :)
Tekken the best fighting game ever made 😁
asura's wrath is laughing at this comment
how is asura bad? its superior in every way
oh i see. well it seemed like a fighter, you know with the segments through the game when you fill the gauge before you start the burst.
Clearly you've never played Mortal Kombat
IKR? I still play Tag Tournament 2.
What a joke... Virtua Fighter 5 is one of the most well-crafted fighting games ever. It's a damn shame that it never held a solid audience in the US. Japan knows what's up, though... VF is a God among fighting games there.
no
Do you know how big the audience for Tekken is in Korea and Japan?
I'm not really trying to argue VF is better, only that this video is being particularly harsh and biased. They even admit they don't play much VF, so how can they really judge these fairly if the amount of play time is so disparate between the two? VF5 is an amazing fighting game and deserves better than to be bashed into obscurity. It's like the only reason they made this video was to hate on VF.
+Richard Craig true.
Can you please explain to me how Virtua fighter 5 is a more well crafted game ever? I need to know. Because studies and polls have been shown numerous times that Tekken is a more well versatile game than Virtua Fighter and even street fighter. Please Elaborate on your opinion.
If you think Virtua Fighter is simple, I wonder if you've ever played it.. You got this entire video all wrong.
The way I see it is that both handle depth in entirely different ways. The two can never really be compared.
Combat is EASILY Virtua Fighter.
Tekken over Mortal Kombat any day
Umk3 >>>>> any tekken
It's abvious they are scrubs who know nothing about fighting games
Yes, what you said is correct, they don't know shit. It's just a video for fanservice. XD
virtual fighter
what there a vr fighting game?
finally i cant wait to play
I don't care, for me Virtua Fighter is my first, and one of the most fav fighting game
I Agree, Tekken is the Better Game.
Mortal Kombat is better then Both
Franklin Clinton nope
BeastGaming TV yup
Nice pp
Good thing i have atleast Tekken 7 deluxe edition
How about Tekken VS Mortal Kombat? Or Tekken VS Street Fighter? Since Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 are now competing between the two as of now.
No VF there would be no tekken or DOA
Who cares as long as you don’t charge me up the ass prices for DLC I’m fine
Tekken has Lili so Tekken wins.
Agreed mate
Yup. Lili best waifu4laifu
Lili ? Fock dat ! You got a Mexican luchador that speaks only in Jaguar roars ! What's cooler than that :D ?
lmao true
Eww, Lili is cancer.
it make sense if it was Dead or Alive vs Tekken.
Dead or Alive is 99% all fan service trash whose demographics are perverted weabs.
Boob simulator with mashing one button and win vs. tekken? really?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
You're funny.
It makes even more sense to have VF vs DOA as both games have similar gameplay
+Pedro Erik Vasquez Dont talk shit
Virtua Fighter V: FS is the best 3d Fighting game ever, coming from a long running fighting games player.
I like Tekken wayyyyyy more than Virtua Fighter.
I grew up with Tekken, and I had no doubt that its traits would surpass those of Virtua Fighter. Now I better run before Segata knocks me out cold. Props to those who get that reference. :D
Well done, sir. Well done. May the eternal hero rest in peace...and please not destroy me in an alley. I owned a Saturn. @_@
ShinJudo sanshiro is coming
/This/
The difference? Tekken - Asia's #1 most popular fighter more times than not. One of the best worldwide. Millions of players, old and new. Great, deep mechanics.
Virtua Fighter - Life support provided by Asia, one of the best, great deep mechanics, like 12 players. 13 on a good day.
VF more technical and fun than tekken series, i totally agree with People in this comment section
'Even SF vs Tekken is good time'
nice one. wait, you didn't actually mean it, did you?
I don't even have to watch this to know Tekken won
VF has Kage Maru and Sarah Bryant, thus rendering all arguments invalid. XD
Even good guys blow it!
Fun fact: Ed Boon is a huge fan of Tekken.
Tekken: 1. Better and much more interesting character designs 2. Fighting feels more hyped and fun 3. Tekken overall is just fun and enjoyable. Virtua Fighter: 1. More realistic 2. Ring outs 3. DON'T WORRY EVEN IF VF IS (DEAD OR ALIVE) IS CONTINUING WHERE VF FELL OFF THE MAP AS IT'S FOLLOWER. ;D :P
Tekken is better, because, the Virtua Fighter franchise ended in 2010 with Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
If I want story I would watch an actual Anime, or read a comic book, or play an RPG. Fighting games turn to crap once you try to weave a sensible storyline with all the different characters.
am I the only person who likes virtua fighter but doesn't like tekken?
Don't worry buddy, You're not alone.
I play VF since 1994 and never liked Tekken.
Namco ripped so much off.
You and this other dude, that's about it.
syminite1 well said mah friend, too bad vf fanatics can’t understand that tekken is a lot more interesting and fun game.
I like both
@June
VF is litterally better in almost every single objective way. The only thing Tekken has is more characters. but even then most of them are useless at a high level.
i would love for virtua fighter to come out with another game tbh
I guess you must be happy with the newest release, then
From Vitua Fighter 2 onwards the series is by a distance the best polygon/3D fighting games ever made! The 1st & still the best
The Mishimas and Kazamas Family Reunion will be one big fight
Tekken will always be better!
Why, thank you....
🤓😂🌌
yea, and ur profile pic alone is more then enough to prove it)
He is right, VF is better
No, he said tekken was better.
Tekken is better
I know the "Tekken" franchise was going to win by a God wind fist. lol
Virtua fighter is a simple game... LOL. Try mastering Akira Yuki in any of them, and then get back to me on how simple VF is. Someone got enamored with Tekken's razzle dazzle.
When I was younger, I always thought the game was called VIRTUAL Fighter.... I feel like my whole childhood has been a lie...
HISTORY IS MADE!!! You guys have finally made a realistic Vs. video. Always having "tie-breakers" for things.
Both are amazing
I wish Tekken had those dynamic wall attacks from Virtua Fighter, and also they should add the Yakuza charakters to the Virtua Fighter roster if they ever make Virtua Fighter 6 it'll be cool to see Kiryu, Ryuji, Majima, Saejama, Akiyama, Tanimura, Shinada, etc.
Not sure how you can say that VF combat is simple...
Tekken is of kids, VF is for professionals
I now want Virtua Fighter 6. Plus it should have been Virtua Fighter vs DOA that would have been more fair.
SO kinda....
Point for virtua fighter: They were first
Points for tekken: everything else
I always find these vs matches kinda predicable. Imagine the uproar if tekken lost!?
Wow I actually have to agree... And I like it when fighting games DO have memorable chars/stories
I like how you have the tekken 5 design of Jin Kazama on the thumbnail
Much prefer Virtua Fighters. Gameplay mechanic is more to my taste.
I like Virtua Fighter but the one player game was severely limited next to Tekken due to no character endings which was and is standard in most other fighting games which gives motivation to learn your favourite character and play through the Arcade mode and improve your skills
This video is about 10 years too late.
Thank you Virtua Fighter for making Tekken exist.
I am a Tekken fan but i agree that without Virtua Fighters there will be no Tekken but Tekken is better
I honestly like both games, But Virtua Fighter is more fun
