  • SAS - The Special Air Service (SAS) is the special forces unit of the British Army. The SAS was founded in 1941 as a regiment, and later reconstituted as a corps in 1950.[5] This special forces unit undertakes a number of roles including covert reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, direct action, hostage rescue and human intelligence gathering.[8][10]
The corps presently comprises 22 Special Air Service Regiment, the regular component, under the operational command of United Kingdom Special Forces, and 21 (Artists) Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve) and 23 Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve), which are reserve units under the operational command of 1st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Brigade.[11]
The Special Air Service traces its origins to 1941 and the Second World War, and was reformed as part of the Territorial Army in 1947, named the 21st Special Air Service Regiment (Artists Rifles). 22 Special Air Service Regiment, part of the regular army, later gained fame and recognition worldwide after successfully assaulting the Iranian Embassy in London and rescuing hostages during the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege, lifting the regiment from obscurity outside the military establishment
SBS - The Special Boat Service (SBS) is the special forces unit of the Naval Service of the United Kingdom. Together with the Special Air Service, Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the Special Forces Support Group, they form the United Kingdom Special Forces and come under joint control of the same Director Special Forces.
The Special Boat Service is described as the naval special forces of the United Kingdom and the sister unit of the SAS. The operational capabilities of both units are broadly similar, however, the SBS (being the principal Royal Navy contribution to UKSF) has the additional training and equipment to lead in the maritime, amphibious and riverine environments. Both units come under the operational command of HQ Directorate of Special Forces (DSF) and undergo an identical selection process, enjoy significant interoperability in training and on operations.
In times of armed conflict and war, the Special Boat Service (SBS) and 22 Special Air Service Regiment (22 SAS) are required to operate in small parties in enemy-controlled territory. Operations of this nature require men of courage and high morale who have excellent tactical awareness be it knowledge of special tactics or simply knowing one's place in a polyvalent unit. Self-discipline neatly ties into this. Intelligence, reliability, determination and also being physically fit are key skills. These men possess mental, moral and physical stamina.
Principal roles of the SBS are Surveillance Reconnaissance (SR), including information reporting and target acquisition; Offensive Action (OA), including direction of air strikes, artillery and naval gunfire, designation for precision guided munitions, use of integral weapons and demolitions; and Support and Influence (SI), including overseas training tasks. The SBS also provide immediate response Military Counter Terrorism (CT) and Maritime Counter Terrorism (MCT) teams
SRR - The Special Reconnaissance Regiment, or SRR, is a special reconnaissance unit of the British Army. It was established on 6 April 2005 and is part of the United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) under the command of Director Special Forces, alongside the Special Air Service (SAS), Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG).[1]
The regiment conducts a wide range of classified activities related to covert surveillance and reconnaissance. The SRR draws its personnel from existing units and can recruit volunteers from any serving male or female member of the British Armed Forces
The Pathfinder Platoon (PF Platoon), or Pathfinder Group, is a reconnaissance unit within the British Army's 16 Air Assault Brigade. Pathfinders act as the Brigade commander's eyes and ears typically operat ahead of the Brigade's front line, often deep behind enemy lines, where they perform advance force reconnaissance operations and mark out drop zones (DZ) and helicopter landing sites (HLS) for use by Brigade forces.
The Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) is a special operations unit of the British Armed Forces.
SFSG - The SFSG is the newest addition to the United Kingdom Special Forces. It was formed officially on 3 April 2006 to support the Special Air Service, the Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the Special Boat Service on operations. The 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment (1 PARA), The RAF Regiment, and The Royal Marines form the UK's Special Forces Support Group (SFSG). The SFSG may provide extra firepower from land or air to fulfill their mission

M16 variants yes. Various small arms are used dependent on the operation. Colt AR-15 / Commando are common place for conventional operations, but no so much in counter terror operations where maneuverability and stealth is a factor

I'd love to give my best reply but can't, still under the o.s.a ,don't fancy the next 25 years in a dirty prison that only fifty people know about !! Yes we all needed each other when the shot goes down and yeah people died but did that many have to to get the desired effect we beat the p.i.r.a physically by 1976 but not politically, then the desired effect could of been achieved as the real hard core guys who wouldn't abstain lie in mass graves, all over Éire and in the Irish sea after being set in concrete after a real long interrogation at sea in international waters, I have family who where present, inthen became involved in revolutionary warfare all over Europe with many different groups and organizations that did or did not exist, then back home to just keep things in the news etc, ect, one word sums it all up "control ", fascinating when I tell you where and when and at what age I was recruited, it sounds far fetched to say the least , I was first dangled the carrot and had a seed planted whilst playing badminton with my Nanna in Hereford Bradbury lines (s.a.s base ) in September 1979 I was about 7 years old at the time !! And had a relative there ,I was then monitored assessed ,medically screened unofficially, without my parents knowledge at all it was then suggested I went to a boarding school due to my behaviour that was being manipulated by those in control, then to find the newly opened school had a ex militarily intelligence officer at the position of headmaster,(I can prove it all ),documents photos witnesses the lot, that was age 10 that's when I started doing my training that I didn't realize was happening, it continues from there, I want to speak with a ghost writer with military experience to get the rest in a book so yo can understand the rest, but the world is controlled manipulated and sanitized and then the bad bits are there and then made worse by us, crazy hey .
