Love the covers and we are learning with you. Your inspiration and encouraging words that everything doesn’t have to be perfect is so helpful. So many things we have thought through our lives is about making sure we do things perfect. I really enjoyed the ribbon edge. 👍🥰
I do think the cover looks so cute! I love the yo yo wrap. And I always learn things from your journal cover videos. I thought I had seen all of them but just found this one. Thanks again for sharing!
You’re a sweet Lady as in ‘classy’. Try to control the outcome of work, relationships or even art is my greatest ‘sin’ and source of frustration. Glad you have this believe ingrained in your soul 🙏🏻
I love your fabric choices. I love your videos. I’m watching as many videos as I can, so I can try a journal of my own soon. 🥰🙏🏻🤗 Great fix on your second cover!!
Wow Ms.Gayle those covers are beautiful!!! You are an amazing sewer. You didn't even pin anything down or together! I'm so impressed once again with your fabulous talent!!! Can't wait to see what's next!!! have a wonderful Wednesday Ms.Gayle! ~Liz~
I just love your positive attitude as you work and encounter challenges. I made a fabric covered journal and cut the fabric 1/4 inch wider than the card stock. Once finished stitching you could not see the card stock. The ribbon for the yellow cover is a perfect match. Thanks so much for making these tutorials Gayle.
Love watching you! You are so brave. Mine would be pinned and glued and would take me forever. I need to be more like you. Thanks so much for all you teach us!!
I absolutely love the yo-yos! It reminds me of when I used to watch my great grandmother make them. Thanks for another great tutorial and showing both options.
Wow Gayle, now I know what to do with all my smaller pieces of fabric. Make up a load of covers for people without a sewing machine and see if they sell in my Etsy shop. Your cover looks brilliant and as you say sometimes you hit a problem and you find a way to solve it. As my dear old mum used to say " it's all sent to try us".
I love both of these covers. I am a lifelong yo-yo maker so they are near and dear to my heart. I am learning tons as you work through glitches when you do tutorials, kinda some life lessons there underneath too. The ribbon you used was beautiful. It must be wonderful to have collected all the things you might need. As I am just starting out, my husband and sister have taken me to a few thrift stores and I am starting my “collection” scaring my husband a bit...lol.....
Gayle when I was in my 20s I got the first computerized sewing machine made.. a singer. It lasted me almost 30 years. So I went an got another singer....the quality of the machines had plummeted. I had to get another machine and this one is a Brother. In between I had an expensive embroidery machine that I sold as I never used the overpriced thing. Just a thought on your Singer. If it keeps giving you grief please take it in and make them look at it. I love my Brother machine. It's not a high end one...200 bucks at Walmart. Never has given me any trouble. But everyone loves a,different brand machine. So if you love your Singer get it an exam....see if it needs some help. The reason I'm watchin is to use my Brother to make a fabric cover journal. And I needed some guidance. Thank you Gayle you always make my day or night. You have a wonderful attitude toward everything. Hugs
Always so fun to watch and learn from you. I am not the best sewer so I tend to try and do very little sewing on my covers. But you make me want to give it a try. TFS
TFS such details on your creation process, I found it very inspiring and motivating. I so agree with you that part of creating includes mistakes. I think that they force me to grow as a designer and cause me to sometimes push that envelope in areas that I might not have even considered had I not made a mistake. I am one of those people that think mistakes are a positive part of growth. I so appreciate your tutorials and I think the flowered cover would make a fabulous botanical journal or even a sewing themed journal.
Great tutorial Gayle! Both of the covers are darling. The yellow one looks like seam binding on the edge of a quilt! I also love your use of the yo yo flowers. Good job!
What a stroke of genius of using the ribbon to cover the raw edges of your journal cover - it looks amazing. As a newer "subbie", I absolutely adore watching all your videos. Your voice has become so familiar my hubby asked me why I keep watching the same video over and over. Haha
I love these Gail!!! You have the talent to fix anything, if it needs to be fixed. When you are working on things and say something like," we did it, we figured it out". I had to chuckle to myself, cause I feel like I am right there with you, happy that I helped and patting you on the back. I will be excited waiting for the next time I can help you out!!!! LOL!!
These covers are awesome.I absolutely love the yoyos !! You are so creative. Keep up the good work. Did you know that quilters never back stitch. They shorten thier first few stitches really small then lengthen them till they get to the the end then shorten the stitches again. I havent tried this on paper yet, but fully intend to
I just found this video. Just starting out making journals and I have been looking for a way to do my covers. I love this method. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! The first journal I made I painted the envelope and used modge podge. Although I liked the feel of it I think I will like the fabric better.
OMGOSH Gayle these fabric covers are gorgeous! The blooper made it look like an adorable little quilt. Now can we talk about the adorable pink fabric with the yo yos? It turned out fabulous especially with the coffee staining and the yo yos are pure perfection my friend! It so reminds me of an old quilt my beloved grandma made years and years ago. I’m thinking I really, really NEED it! LOL Thank you so much for doing these craft with me’s I so look forward to them..Wishing you and your family a very blessed Easter. Giant hugs, Candi
Ohhh, Gayle! I enjoyed the drama. I was on pins and needles throughout the whole video and the ending was Great!!! Loved this tutorial! Just how I feel when I have something not go as planned and initiate a "fix". You are a gem! 😄
I stinkin' love these covers Gayle! I'm getting ready to try to cover a binder journal with fabric ... I'm nervous about it, but I'm just gonna roll with it and see how it comes out! Great job my friend!
No clunking! Yay! Cleaning your sewing machine really works well! LOL. You know, I agree about the bobbin thread coming off because the well for it is not deep enough. I have the same issue with my machine. Love the yellow cover with the eyelet trim. Very cute! So frustrating with the raw edges of the fabric. The seamstress in me is screaming "make a pillow case out of the fabric (inside out) and leave only one end open, flip the pillow case back outward and you only have the one end to sew up." This cover is going to be adorable though. You do such great work, Gayle! I'm inspired to buy some fabric and make one! Or maybe I'll look through a bag of stuff to donate to the thrift shop and I'll find some fabric I could use. Hmmmm.... I am inspired!!!! TFS, Gayle!
Hi Gayle - Hope you are having fun with your family in Denver! I am missing your videos but thankful you have lots so I can watch old videos. Got to get my daily Gayle-Time! I want to thank you for this video specifically. I used the tutorial for inspiration for a few fall theme journals I created. They both sold in less than 6 hours! The one thing I did differently is used the envelop opening as a pocket. I switched up around the three sides but left the envelop opening open to create a back pocket. I have a video flip through if you are interested - I gave you credit on the video. Love your videos! - Crystal
Phew!! Lol. I caught myself holding my breath a couple times during that trim attachment. Lol. You're braver than me. I would have had to pin it first. Beautiful job. Gorgeous fabrics.
Gosh! you are so amazing and patient with your sewing machine... I just hurtle at top speed and cannot control... LOL!!!.. This tutorial is awesome Gayle... Loved watching you go through the process like a human... ha ha ha!! Thank you so much...Both the covers are fabulous...
Gayle, I love the art that you create. I don't know how you do so much so quickly! Are you just super organized? I used to have problems with my bobbin, and I had it cleaned and adjusted by a repairman, and my machine has never sewn better. I am glad that you work fast because I always have something new to learn. Happy Easter!
I was saying aloud while watching "do a binding around the edges" and you did, lol! Both covers are gorgeous, I get so inspired from your videos. Thank you!~~Leslie
Cute covers! The handmade imperfections and using thrifted and vintage materials are two of my favorite things about making junk journals. I would go crazy having to sew so slowly. Are your bobbins the right size for the machine? Maybe a trip to the repair person. It shouldn’t do that, and it’s making you crazy; you are worthy of spending a little to fix it. 💕
Hi Gayle...check to see if you have the correct size of bobbin...I bought cheaper bobbins once and they looked the same...but weren't the same size...so my thread came off the bobbin wrong and...would get messed up.....love your videos....Laurel
love the way you roll. fabrics are lovely, cant wait to see the end result! a tip for sewing multiple layers of fabric is to use a walking foot on your machine, it stops any bulk/crease at the end. love it :)
Hi Gayle. I am a quilter. You can make (or purchase) double sided binding (I make mine, you cut on the bias) and stitch on the front, iron over to the back and hand stitch to the back. It makes a lovely finish, at least for quilts. My hands got tired binding queen size quilts however. A great quilting site is the Missouri Star Quilt Company. Just a suggestion.
Hi Gayle. If you take a "scrap piece" of fabric and fold it in half and start sewing on it a few stitches, butt your cover up to it and sew from the scrape to your cover. It will stop your machine from eating the cover.i have done this for years as a quilter and when sewing delicate clothes fabric. Then scrap prevents the needle from pushing the thread into the hole in the stich plate. Hope this helps you. Carolyn
Hey Gayle, how do you make those little round things that you are going to put on the cover? Will you please do a video on how to make them? I’ve always wanted to know how to make them. Thank you for sharing!
It is no wonder your poor machine was having issues. When you sewed the lace to the cover you actually sewed fabric to fabric with no paper involved, and it was quite confused! As usual you and your trusty machine came through with beautiful results! I do have a question about the yo-yos on the top piece. I have always had the open side on the bottom and the closed side as the top. Your way looks cool, too, so is there a right way to do it?
For the bobbin thread problem, you might want to make sure that you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. I would buy some new ones specifically for your machine and see if that doesn't help. They look alike and a "wrong" bobbin will actually work but with minor problems like you describe.
Again, love it!! What do you have your tension set if. If you don't mind my asking. I keep breaking thread and even needles, and bunching up thread. UGH
MistyRaymond I'm not sure what the setting is...I've left it wherever it was when I bought the machine. If you have a book with your sewing machine, consulting it may be of help. It's all a mystery to me. I just keep plugging along. 😄❤️
Gail, regarding your bobbin. Don’t pull the thread up before you put the clear lid back on. Hand crank the wheel to move needle up and down a few times and it will lift the Bobbin thread up through, and under the needle. Sometimes I need tweezers to pull up a tail before I start sewing, but really good machines don’t worry about not having a tail.
A Second idea that works also:start sewing about the length you normally backstitch and actually backstitch first. To miter a corner you can stitch all the way to the edge, then backstitch, then fold the corner down and turn your fabric. I have a "few" little girls to sew dolly clothes for and this always worked pretty easy on the tiny clothes. LOL to much experience with those.
Hi Gayle, I’m currently binge watching your videos and loving everything about them! I was just wondering with the fabric covers, what is the purpose of putting the envelope inside? Could you do a cover without it? I’m also totally new to sewing so hope it’s not a daft question....Susie xxx💕
Hi Susie! Totally great question! Yes, you could use file folder or card stock or whatever. I make a lot of my covers from 9 x 12 envelopes just because they are cheap and the perfect size! And I really like the weight they give the cover. But lots of other options too for sure! Thanks for watching and for your kind comment! ❤️
If you started in the middle when you begin instead at the corner, when you get-to the last corner it could be the-same as the other 3. 😊. Just a thought. Xxxxx❤️🇨🇦❤️
Have you used that fabric spray for quilting at all Gayle? If you can get it on the material without getting it everywhere else :D it works really well to hold paper and material while you work on them. I have also used that to stick Vellum to copy paper for printing.
May I ask if there is some special reason to use an envelope? Sturdiness? Something else? Or is it just a matter of I tried it one day and have continued to do it? Thanks Gayle! Ice storm outside so checking tons of process videos today. Soooo helpful-thanks!
Love the covers and we are learning with you. Your inspiration and encouraging words that everything doesn’t have to be perfect is so helpful. So many things we have thought through our lives is about making sure we do things perfect. I really enjoyed the ribbon edge. 👍🥰

I’m late to the party but, I am so glad I found your video!!!! Thank you!
I love your fabric choices. I love your videos. I’m watching as many videos as I can, so I can try a journal of my own soon. 🥰🙏🏻🤗 Great fix on your second cover!!
I’m rewatching this video tonight, I need to make a fabric journal soon. 💜💜
Wow Ms.Gayle those covers are beautiful!!! You are an amazing sewer. You didn't even pin anything down or together! I'm so impressed once again with your fabulous talent!!! Can't wait to see what's next!!! have a wonderful Wednesday Ms.Gayle! ~Liz~

I was going to make the same comment about leaving that 1/4" extra.
I have just found this video Gayle. It’s really fabulous. Thank you so much 💫
Things happen for a reason, both in crafting & in life.💖
I love watching your craft with me videos; thank you so much for sharing with us.
Love-Love-Love them!!! I really enjoy that they are soft
and yet when they are handled there's the "crinkle" sound
of the paper!!!! Job WELL done!! 🔴
They both look so pretty.
I completely agree with your thoughts on making mistakes. The fixing of them inspires creativity.
Love watching you! You are so brave. Mine would be pinned and glued and would take me forever. I need to be more like you. Thanks so much for all you teach us!!
I would have taken 3 nights tryin to pin it and the corners would have driven me mad. My gosh Gayle is brave.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I love them and how you made the little not working into something better. I learn so much from you!
I absolutely love the yo-yos! It reminds me of when I used to watch my great grandmother make them. Thanks for another great tutorial and showing both options.
Love it Gail. The fabrics are beautiful together and a great fix. I appreciate you.
I appreciate you too, Sharon! ❤️

Gayle, this would be so very cute on a cookbook. Love the way you show how you do so many things that are mysteries to the rest of us.
Oh Gail they both turned out lovely. You are brilliant had a great time looking at you x
Well they both turned out beautiful! I really enjoy watching and listening to your videos. I have learned so much from You
Thank you so much for showing how to do this! And i agree about homemade journals not needing to be “perfect”...the handmade touch is so much nicer.
I love both of these covers. I am a lifelong yo-yo maker so they are near and dear to my heart. Gayle, thank you so much for this video. You have such a sweet nature about yourself...
Jerry Jean Thomas Aaww, what a sweet comment! Thank you! ❤️
Love the fabrics and the covers. Way to go on the "fix" for the second cover! It is so cute!
Love them both, now will you show us how you put together the journal pages? love your tutorials, you are fabulous.
rikae1906 I have several “start to finish” video series that show all the steps in creating a journal! ❤️

I love that you work on something everyday!

So funny, Dianne! I'm pretty sure I felt you patting me on the back! 😂. Looking forward to the next time we craft together! ❤️
I love the way you are wrapping the edge! Perfect! Good move Gayle! I prefer the first one though. ❤️🥰🇨🇦❤️
Love them both and love the fabric edging that you put on the quilted cover! I have a ton of fabric, so I am definitely going to make some. TFS!
This is absolutely lovely!! You did a great job. Can't wait to try it out.!!! Very pretty!!!

I stinkin' love these covers Gayle! I'm getting ready to try to cover a binder journal with fabric ... I'm nervous about it, but I'm just gonna roll with it and see how it comes out! Great job my friend!
Thanks, Diane!! ❤️
BEAUTIFUL! I think I held my breath the whole time you were putting on the trim! lol Love them! TFS
I just made my very first fabric journal cover using this tutorial! Thank you so much, Gayle!

- Crystal
Crystal, so sweet of you to mention me! I’ll check it out!! ❤️
Just love your videos
Phew!! Lol. I caught myself holding my breath a couple times during that trim attachment. Lol. You're braver than me. I would have had to pin it first. Beautiful job. Gorgeous fabrics.

Thank you, Vani! I do so look forward to your sweet comments! Hugs! ❤️
Beautiful, love them both!
Beautiful job on both and great save for the yellow one! 💖
genamomma Thanks! Whew! 😅❤️
So cute Gayle, I was rooting for you the whole way.

love the way you roll. fabrics are lovely, cant wait to see the end result! a tip for sewing multiple layers of fabric is to use a walking foot on your machine, it stops any bulk/crease at the end. love it :)
Thank you for the tip as my sewing skills are very limited and this will help me, much appreciated.
So wonderful! Love it!
Loved what you did. I have some soft medical booklets, I bet using a cover like that would make it work out.
Hi Gayle. I am a quilter. You can make (or purchase) double sided binding (I make mine, you cut on the bias) and stitch on the front, iron over to the back and hand stitch to the back. I LOVE the choice of fabrics. The trim is spot on. You did good girlfriend lol.
Love it!!!
Hi Gayle, love your work. Why don't you remove the metal clip from the envelope before you start covering it?
Julianne, sometimes I do. 😁❤️
I just saw you taped your craft sheet to the table what a fool am I, I never thought of that and my craft sheet slides about!
I know this is older but you could use seam binding. They sell it already made. It would wrap around the edge of the cover.

Have you used that fabric spray for quilting at all Gayle? If you can get it on the material without getting it everywhere else :D it works really well to hold paper and material while you work on them. I have also used that to stick Vellum to copy paper for printing.
I have one of those yo-yo blankets :) Oh sooooooo many covers to be made now I have seen this lol
as Carolyn Dubie says "O.O.P.S" Outstanding Opportunity Presenting Suddenly :)
Kerry, I haven't used that, but it sounds great! ❤️
it is a bit messy if you do not have something way around the area you want to spray :) but really great, and it can be repositioned as well
May I ask if there is some special reason to use an envelope? Sturdiness? Something else? Or is it just a matter of I tried it one day and have continued to do it? Thanks Gayle! Ice storm outside so checking tons of process videos today. Soooo helpful-thanks!
I like the weight and flexibility of the envelope. 👍. Be also used old Amazon bubble wrap envelopes and they give a fun crunch and texture too! ❤
@@gayleagostinelli_ct so many options!!! :)
