    Sorry, but this didn't tell me how to get them soft, it just told me not to use fabric softener. Vinegar? Balls? Tin Foil? What?

      Keep watching him. I can tell you vinegar in rinse water works. I didn't think it did...but it does....first you have to use less soap/detergent than most of us have been using.....this will help get laundry softer.

      Does vinegar leave an odor?

    • @wyzemann
      @wyzemann 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@xanderpromeoNo, but an alternative to vinegar is Downy rinse & refresh. More potent than vinegar, it strips the residue from your clothes during the rinse cycle. It is a game-changer, with the added benefits of naturally softer laundry.

      @@edalbedahs Then most likely you're using the wrong type of, or cheaply made (quality-wise), vinegar.
      I've used cleaning vinegar in EVERY type of cleaning application and it dries to no scent.
      Window cleaner.
      Over & microwave cleaner.
      In the washer.
      Pee stains from my dog that I just told him "don't pee on my bed!" and he literally pees on my bed 30 seconds later.
      I mop with water and vinegar.
      ...
      We literally have to buy gallons at Costco because we use it often.
      I don't know, maybe change to a different brand. I know you have to be using "white _cleaning_ vinegar", right?
      Maybe you're using it with something else?
      Maybe the thing you're using it on has a residue that interacts with the vinegar?
      Maybe you're not letting it dry to open air?
      Or..,
      It could just be your nose is extremely sensitive to certain scents. There are people who can smell cyanide while many cannot.
      That being said, while I've never looked into it it's possible people can smell vinegar residue after it's dried. However, I have to believe that it's a very, very, very small percentage as everything points to the odor of white _cleaning_ vinegar normally dissipating after about an hour or so.

    I just ordered some dryer balls! Fabric softener also irritates my skin (along with a lot of detergents) so I don’t use it often. Now I have a very very good reason to not use the liquid softener! I’ve definitely felt that layer, yeesh

    my Washers fabric softener dispenser broke and i could not be happier. I cut back on my laundry soap and use half as much ( soap clogs your washer). Told to me by a washer repair person. So I decided to give it a shot. It took a few weeks and my towels are so soft. My clothes feel nice. No more static cling. I do use Ecos laundry soap from Costco very light scent. I don't think the kind soap matters. But using too much does. Now my laundry soap goes farther and everything is so soft. I also use only cold water unless I am washing my cleaning rags or dish towels.

    • @johndoe-vc1we
      @johndoe-vc1we 2 года назад

      How did the static cling stop? I don't see how that can be avoided if you are in a dry environment and clothes get rubbed on something. How cold is cold for you in degrees? it can vary during the day as the season

      If you ask washer repair people they'll tell you how BAD fabric softener is. It's bad for your clothes, for the washer (even though it comes with a fabric softener slot), and it's incredibly bad for the environment.

      I hate not using them but they do leave a residue on your clothes. I mean, you can literally see and feel a tacky dryer sheet go in and when it comes out it's thin with no more residue. That stuff just doesn't evaporate. It's like wax that transfers to your clothes.

    Okay, I get that and I've tried. Problem is that we're on a well and have very hard water. The best solution I've found is using epsom salt in the wash, but we still get static in the dryer. Any suggestions? Wool dryer balls? Plastic ones? I've seen both.

    • @charliekim5313
      @charliekim5313 2 года назад +1

      Try using less soap and maybe and extra rince. I use half the recommended amount recommended by the laundry soap makers. I found once the excess soap was removed from our clothes the static was gone. I also have hard well water. ( Too much Iron) Your washer will love it too, soap gunks up the parts of your washer.

    Notice how not one single fabric softer product EVER list their ingredients...I stopped using fabric softer years ago when a very well known Laundromat/dry cleaners in The city (sydney) told me what that crap can do to your whiltes.
    It basically catches the dirt your trying to rinse out of your clothes and binds them back to the fibres.. . time and time and time again. To me it made sense as fabric softner will leave a layer on your clothes and after a while, whites come out grey.
    Not to mention the nasty carcinogens in there...

      @Cal Sa - I have watched several videos and heard this man speak on NPR. One of his big things is that we use way too much detergent in too-cold water. He recommends ignoring manufacturers instructions on the containers as they want to sell you more product than you need - use about half of what they say. Also, use warm water as cold does not activate the detergents. Industry standard for cold water washing is 58-63 degrees, whereas cold tap water is actually about 50-53 degrees.
