I've never seen it, but apparently it's a short TV special. It wasn't meant to replace the original. It was meant to be a throwback to two classic films; Rudolph (which the animation is an homage of), and Elf (which the story is adapted from). It's supposed to make people say, "Hey, I remember that!" Still seems kind of a waste of time though.
@@curtthegamer934 There's no need for a movie to make people remember Elf 2003.Every year people watch it around Christmas.I doubt many people have forgotten about it.I can sort of understand the reasoning for Rudolph but this T.V special is still a waste of time.I doubt anyone remembers this.

In the live-action movie you can see the contrast between the Elf and the society. In the animated film, he looks like another regular cartoony character (who might come from Germany rather than the North Pole) Elf 2003 it's more absurd, but that makes it more magical.
@@duskstone109 Again. NOT a remake. It is just another adaptation of the original Elf Broadway Musical. It also has its own charm and style to it independent of the Elf (2003) film. As a stand alone movie it seems pretty nice, cute stop-motion Christmas movie for kids. I don't see why its such a shock (??)
Anyone realize the remake has the same stop motion similar to the Spongebob Squrepants Christmas special? Also, yeah, the original is a lot better in my opinion.
That's because it was made by the same team, Screen Novelties. Also, while the original is better, this is one of my favorite remakes of any movie. Alongside The Jungle Book 2016.
Elfs charm was having a Christmas cartoon like character in the real world being awkward and out of place, perfectly played by Will Ferrel , making a stop motion cartoon defeats the whole purpose of why it'd so beloved nearly 20 years later.
Everyone saying they never heard of the remake While i never heard about any of these two movies And thanks for recommending the OG movie guys! I'll check It out someday :)

The 2014 Elf is NOT a remake of the 2003 Elf. The 2014 one is just another film adaptation of the original Broadway Musical. Elf (2014) seems to have its own independent charm and appeal separate from the 2003. It also seems to have wonderful character designs and stop-motion work. I just wouldn't be so quick to compare the two adaptations and write one off as unneeded and say it shouldn't have existed. And as someone who loves stop-motion animation, I'ma definitely get around to watching this one :)
I remember being in a flight and they played the remake on the plane. I didn’t have any headphones so I had no idea what was happening and I was only half awake, so it all felt like a fever dream and I forgot it existed until now.
People are being way too harsh on the remake. I like both. The old one is nostalgic for me while I can appreciate the time and animation that went into the remake.
2:14 I can understand the difference between the Fake Santa fight scene. In the original, Buddy doesn't fight back, but in the stop-motion remake, he does.
In my opinion, the remake just takes away from the original. I feel like Elf works better as a live-action film because it makes the thought of a overly positive man-child running around the lifeless streets of New York more believable, and thus allows a lot of the jokes to land and actually be pretty funny. The animated one, while well made, just wouldn't work as well with the original story, and what they did change honestly makes it even worse.
Here's the thing, the remake doesn't look half-bad. Definitely not as GOOD as the original but at least there's more care in this than any of the live-action Disney remakes.
There totally needs to be a time when humans really need to make a "True" animated movies that touched the soul and heart of the viewers of all ages.
